I think this might be the bonus stage theme by Miyoko Takaoka. She said she composed 3 themes for the game: the 2 acts of Marble Garden Zone and a bonus stage theme, which ultimately went unused.
I love these oscilloscope videos bc not only do u get to hear each part individually so they can b more easily identifiable but hearing it all come together after listening to the separate parts feels so satisfying. The satisfaction is even greater when u like the song too!
Let me tell you something interesting. This song reminds me of December 2019, the last month I fully enjoyed myself. It was around this time when I started fully listening to the Sonic 3 Prototype songs, and this song. This song right here. This right here was my favorite song of all time. At least video game wise. I would listen to it everyday, and with all the cold of Winter, with a sort of smell the wind had to it, and the friends I hanged out with, and with me being 1 month into a relationship, it felt perfect to listen to. I was always happy! Now, in the year 2020, its defiantly pretty dire. But, when I'm feeling down, I'll play this song, and it all seems to make me feel better in every way. Music is a very important thing in my life. What really hits and makes me remember December 2019 is Channel 0. The way it... distorts and gets all wobbly just gives me nostalgia of that month. I hope December 2020 has a similar effect. I'll come back here once 2021 comes.

I honestly doubt that this is a Super Sonic theme. I think it is an early version of the Special Stage theme, because the musical section at 5:51 can also be found in the final version of this theme (around 53 seconds), and Sonic Origins uses this for the Blue Spheres game.
Well, the Special Stage theme actually predates Sonic 3 by about two years, as Yoshiaki Kashima had originally composed it for an unreleased puzzle game in 1992 called "SegaSonic Bros." That is a pretty interesting observation nontheless.
i /love/ this theme, but I still think the instruments weren't finalized yet by the time this build was burned... all of the channels sound like generic synths, much like you'd hear from an early SDK or from a random chinese pirate game (looking at you "super mario world" and "squirrel king") If someone in the community could polish this a bit further to fit with the general vibe of the rest of the soundtrack, I would be eternally grateful. I'd do it myself if I had the time and the familiarity with all of the different Genny/MD music utilities that have been created over the last decade and a half x.x
There are a couple of versions that have been refined. One of them is used in Sonic 3 Complete, another was recently added to Sonic 3: Angel Island Revisited, and there's another one I've heard. They all have slight differences but they're all amazing. I feel they are all a touch slow for Super Sonic personally so I always play them at 1.1x (+10%) speed. Didn't think about this till now, but there's only 5 competition stages, even though the hidden stage select says there's six. Is it possible that this song was meant for that 6th stage? (Imagine a sixth secret stage where you fly through space as the super/hyper characters. That would be neat.)

Guzzled Gumps23 it wasn’t a special stage theme or a bonus stage theme. The prototype version of the blue sphere theme, as well as the prototype versions of the gumball machine, glowing orbs, and slot machine bonus stages, are pretty much the same as the final versions

However, i guarantee you, it was not done by Jun senoue because if it was done by him, this song would have been rearranged in future games. Take Sonic 3d blast, for example, as his two compositions were going to be in the game but did not make the cut and went unused. So later, he reused both of these songs in later games. Such as the special stage song for whenever you encounter knuckles and he takes you there went unused until 2 years later that is rearranged in pleasure castle in sonic adventure and the boss track for Robotnik that was later rearranged later in 14 years later sonic 4 episode 1 as the boss theme. UPDATE (4/18/24): I made a mistake of what I have said. So, to clear things up, this song sounds similar to a song called never turn back which was made 12 years later in the game shadow the hedgehog who was made composed by Jun senoue and sung by his group singer from crush 40. So this is very likely that senoue did the composition. Also there is another song that senoue did which was the knuckles theme that was meant for sonic 3 however did not make the cut in favor for buxer's version and how unfitting for the character. However the song was reused in the pc version of sonic 3. The reason why I say this was done by senoue bc his composition and programming sounds familiar. The programming is the same like the game over song because two bassline (one of each are panned left and right) have the same fm instrument.
