Not really, MJ tracks are more minimalist in what they change. The fact that Angel Island, Hydrocity, and Marble Garden aren't changed in remakes proves SEGA composed all of those tracks. That said I hope we get more bass and drum mixes soon.

It's crazy how much the duplicate of channel 0 slightly delayed on channel 2 to give it the echo effect makes a difference. Completely blows the entire track wide and opens it up.
Yes! This effect is awsome. It gives a feeling of fullness and makes the music look more complete. You can check this effect in Streets of Rage's musics too.
The detail that I just noticed is to help with that echo sound Channel 0 is juuuuuust a smidge louder than Channel 2 which is perfect for the effect. Channel 0 effectively makes the sound, Channel 2 is the tail end of the echo

Just Channel 0 on its own makes it sound more modern and like how it would probably sound today, but the echo effect from Channel 2 really gives it that 16-bit feel.
In the prototype version of this theme, channel 0's leads from 1:53 to 2:37 didn't really have a hearable delay channel. Instead, channel 0 and channel 2 were utilized to make the lead instruments sound stereo. It surely was a much-needed change to use echo as it fits the wet and wide environment of the level!
PSG0 and PSG1 seem to be saying "Is there an echo in here?" after the echoing melody of channel 0 and 2 in the beginning of the track like sassy backup singers. Pretty neat!
This song is so well constructed, I love how the attention keeps shifting between the instruments. It’s a constant back and forth and all the instruments get equal say. Nice trick btw to fake an echo
Sonic 3 / Sonic 3 and Knuckles are top notch when it comes to squeezing the max out of the Mega Drive‘s sound hardware. This track is so full and rich in different sounds. An absolute masterclass teaching the proper usage of FM-synthesis. Channel 0 carries the song, the PSG echo is just sublime. One of my all time favourite track from any Sonic game 👍.
This is literally one of the reasons why I'm in love with the sound tracks of Sonic 3 and Knuckles. Deconstructions give you a hint of what the instruments sound like behind the scenes.
It's always interesting to watch these because it really shows you how complex the songs can really be. Like even something as simple as the PSG3 channel hi-hats really bring the drums together and pushes the song that extra mile
Tails 64 I mean, the main reason why it’s so close is because it still follows the same key progression, which is what the bass controls. The overall composition of the song is much different though

I don't think I've commented on any of your videos yet but I really appreciate you going through all these videos you've already done to make oscilloscope versions. There's just something so satisfying about seeing that final moment where all boxes are active. Also I appreciate your dedication to so often starting off the slow climb to completion by slapping us in the face with the drums and bass.
I gotta say, the echoing of the melody lines really make this soundtrack for me. They make the sound more organic, and add that little bit of snap or punch to the note, more reminiscent of an actual physical instrument being played. Such an important layer to everything
I may be only one who likes PSG 0 and PSG 1. Especially that little jingle they are doing in 3:17 here's with all instruments ---> 8:30 I know its hard to hear here but in the piano covers it's more hearable and more satisfying.
i love how channel 0 makes its own kind of snare or drum as a side effect and how channel 2 is just an echo of channel 0, really makes your appreciate the pure talent behind harnessing the short comings of the sound chip to make it work better.

Mega Drive's sound chip capabilities are just incredible for a console from 1990. Given it's a chip so similar to that of the yamaha synthesizers and products of the time that's capable of sound that you could later hear in games from the ps1 and others that used cd audio with themes recorded with professional synths. I wonder then why so many third party mega drive games just didn't get sound this good and clean and instead the chainsaw-like metallic synths were so prominent on mega drive games. I can only assume that it has to do with sound programming so most people outside of sega didn't knew that well how to work with and program with this chip
I started with the Alex yard videos and saw these videos referenced. I thought this was an order of magnitude more nerdy than I anticipated enjoying but boy was I wrong. That arpeggio run 3/4 way through the track on the bottom left and center sections is the MVP. This is the promised land
