    Just gotta talk about 3:28, the bassline and drum work on this song is fucking SUBLIME and it always makes me sad how many remixes (official ones included) really give little emphasis or showcase to it because it's nothing short of funky and fresh as hell.

    • @niapurdue230
      @niapurdue230 2 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Not really, MJ tracks are more minimalist in what they change. The fact that Angel Island, Hydrocity, and Marble Garden aren't changed in remakes proves SEGA composed all of those tracks.
      That said I hope we get more bass and drum mixes soon.

    • @niapurdue230
      @niapurdue230 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Ghawblin you have a point, but the fact that most of the directly MJ inspired zones do get changed (only in Sonic 3 because his team didn't do any S&K work) is a bit of my own guess as to why. Regardless of the composer, it's partly why S3&K in general rarely get remade or remastered, the music stuff I mean.

    • @jerdure

      The detail that I just noticed is to help with that echo sound Channel 0 is juuuuuust a smidge louder than Channel 2 which is perfect for the effect. Channel 0 effectively makes the sound, Channel 2 is the tail end of the echo

    Individually they are very harsh but work together so well. Funny they use the PSG as a noise channel here at 3:08.

    This is the first one if these I've seen where so much of what's going on sounds totally alien played alone. Like that little melody on channels 3 and 4, I've never even heard that before. And the DAC sounds completely nuts in isolation.

    I don't think I've commented on any of your videos yet but I really appreciate you going through all these videos you've already done to make oscilloscope versions. There's just something so satisfying about seeing that final moment where all boxes are active. Also I appreciate your dedication to so often starting off the slow climb to completion by slapping us in the face with the drums and bass.

    When a Sonic song is so complex, it takes nearly nine minutes and seven cycles through its one-minute long main loop to show how each component channel contributes to its melody.

  • @pepsiman215
    @pepsiman215 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    i love how channel 0 makes its own kind of snare or drum as a side effect and how channel 2 is just an echo of channel 0, really makes your appreciate the pure talent behind harnessing the short comings of the sound chip to make it work better.

    I gotta say, the echoing of the melody lines really make this soundtrack for me. They make the sound more organic, and add that little bit of snap or punch to the note, more reminiscent of an actual physical instrument being played. Such an important layer to everything

    I started with the Alex yard videos and saw these videos referenced. I thought this was an order of magnitude more nerdy than I anticipated enjoying but boy was I wrong. That arpeggio run 3/4 way through the track on the bottom left and center sections is the MVP. This is the promised land

    Mega Drive's sound chip capabilities are just incredible for a console from 1990. Given it's a chip so similar to that of the yamaha synthesizers and products of the time that's capable of sound that you could later hear in games from the ps1 and others that used cd audio with themes recorded with professional synths. I wonder then why so many third party mega drive games just didn't get sound this good and clean and instead the chainsaw-like metallic synths were so prominent on mega drive games. I can only assume that it has to do with sound programming so most people outside of sega didn't knew that well how to work with and program with this chip
