The difference between Nathan and Yuzu is that Nathan helps to emphasise the true difficulty and power it takes to do these moves. They aren't just seamless done, there is raw power and skill. Yuzuru, however, has the amazing ability to make his jumps appear like they are as easy as walking. He just seems to travel. Despite the huge amount of pressure, he makes it seem effortless. Weightless
@@9afina shut up lol I don’t know whats wrong with u but if you don’t like yuzuru just stop giving darn ridiculous comments... I see your comments everywhere which mostly (sadly) are subjective. If you don’t like it then leave it
Really??!! Hanyu has never been a skater like Patrick Chan was. For example, I've always felt that Rachmaninoff's Elegie was a piece perfect for skating; when Patrick Chan skated to it as his short program my reaction was "Patrick is the absolute right guy to skate to that." I've never said that about any program of Hanyu's. Nathan's signature short program IMO is his "Caravan" program with "La Boheme" and "Nemesis" vying for second while "Rocketman" is his signature long. I can honestly say none of Hanyu's program are memorable IMO; they all look the same: Hanyu skating in front of the music, never interpreting the music. Seimei is particularly my least favorite as it's a sad appeal to Onmyoji which was popular at the time and shows no sign of Japanese court culture or dance.
yuzuru doesnt seem to show the effort that a jump takes at all in the takeoff - definitely sometimes in the landing, but the takeoff is always somehow composed and elegant
Also I noticed that for some reason Yuzu looks like he can delay his rotations mid air? Very noticeable whenever his jump covers a wide distance, typically his toe, sal, and axel. He looks like he's flying. Then his Lutz, 3L or 4L it's just...a marvel. It may be quick but done so intricately.
@@randyarden9753 lmao Nathan actually has more interesting transition in and out quads, especially in fs (choctaw spread eagle etc.) You’re biased apparently so I guess it’s fine you say so.
Nathan - stronger jumps with more force, athletic, compact, air position is a bit inconsistent, hard landing with not much flow. Hanyu - lighter jumps like a feather, graceful, consistent air position, more distance, smooth landing with more flow.
Chen's jumps are not so smooth because he makes the maximum number of revolutions in the air, Hanyu steals revolutions both on the take off and on the landing.
There is a clear difference in the ways to take off, and land onto the ice. The crew members who work on the ice conditions are aware of it. One of them said that there were always holes, squid marks and cuts left after skaters finished their performances, but when Yuzuru finished his performance, the ice condition remained good, no squid marks or holes on the ice. That is the proof that Yuzuru jumps, taking off and landing without body weight or forceful move. He jumps skillfully without forces and lands with the natural gravity, so no resistance with the air is required. That is why we can see his jumps so natural and seamless.
Yuzuru is the type of figure skater where you just know he was born to do this. A perfect combination of sport and art, he truly is amazing. I hope to see more skaters like him in the future.
@@lun7974 Yes, Notta Stellata is one of his performance I love the most, and there is another one "Chrystal Memories", it's the beautiful interaction between the Yuzu and the Toshi, the singer. I can keep watching these two non-stop.
Hanyu makes it look effortless, although we know he practices like a demon and is a maniacal perfectionist; Chen makes it look like hard work (which it is), but that's not as pleasing to watch imo
@@fannynoriega9249 Yuzuru was also a college student, he went to the best university in Japan. He graduated now even finished his thesis. Actually a lot of the skaters went to and is attending university full time, they just don't advertise it as much as Nathan does.
Even when Yuzuru fulfills all the criteria in the IJS, his GOE is still lower than it should be. His jumps have the kind of entrances that no other skater has out there, not even Nathan Chen. It is amazing that Yuzuru has managed to accomplish everything that he has when the ISU have been underscoring him for most of his career. Nathan has brought a mechanical element to an artistic sport. I don't feel anything when I watch him skate whereas with Yuzuru, I feel like I'm taken on journey. Even when he falls, I can feel the precise moment he sinks back into his program and gives it his all. I just --- I feel like Nathan is being propped up by the ISU to the take top spot. He has his jumps but his performances look rigid and like he's thinking the whole way through. He never gets lost in it and for that reason, I can't get lost in it. The in-between moments looks like he's just lining up for his next technically precise jump. It looks like work. Maybe his depiction is more honest for that reason. But when Yuzu skates. My God, you feel like it's magic. He makes you feel like he's a divine, ethereal creature that decided to grace mere mortals with his presence. Lol.
I'm sooooo agree with you! Nathan is a great skater - very skillful, talented and hardworker. But Yuzuru...his skating is just divine! He forgets everything while skating, he is so honest in his skating to audience and himself. So I guess we feel the same to him and that's why he is loved by so many people everywhere - he is so honest and fearless ❤️
@@crescentmishka740 he always had this kind of style, even as a 19 year old. He didn't got his first gold medal at such an early age for no reason. Nathan just favours textbook technique and consistency (less artistry= lower risk to fuck up) over style and artistry, unlike Yuzuru (who combines both with a bigger emphasize on artistry).
Watched a bunch of Yuzu's performances over a month, what differs him the most with his opponents is his artistry, the very thing that makes him a performer, jumps are similar with every skaters but his execution of the aura, the music that lingers through his body. Almost as if he is the ice that dances through the music.
@@alyssaabrarerestain3814 IKR, the lightness of his landings are so spectacular to watch, and even he falls, he falls beautiful. Like arghhh, is he real? He is indeed not from the planet earth.
Yeah when Yuzu competed in 2014 we praised his athleticism vs Patrick chan who was an artist. Now that Yuzu is behind Nathan in all aspects of skating you fans now claim he has superior artistry. Lol. Yuzus PCs is b grade . Not in the same level as Jason brown , Kevin Amos and Shoma uno

The real difference is that you can not really separate the jump and spin in Hanyu's performance because every movement of his is just one flow. He doesn't cut the flow for jump and this character is what makes him different from all thenother skaters... . You forget yourself when you watch his show.
There’s bunch of skaters who can jump all that quads successfully but for me the most important thing is Yuzuru always shows more than that. His jumps are not just about aim or edges or free legs. We can get art we can get balance with music we can get tons of emotions from Yuzuru’s jumps. RESPECT Nathan his technical scores and jumps are amazing and he did such an amazing job with all that but there’s no one like Yuzuru Hanyu really
Technically Nathan is excellent but he doesn't flow like Yuzuru does. It's like the stuff between Nathan's jumps is just fill in and he doesn't look comfortable unless he's doing a jump. With Yuzuru every second is artistry, every movement is part of the dance, every emotion is on the surface. He is so in tune with his body. It's like watching an otherworldly being.
Yuzuru is so graceful and beautifully, his posture, his body type, his figure, his look, his style, his customs, his music. Omg, it is like an eextravaganza show. It is the whole package. Figure skating is not just jumps. Yuzuru made fs much more enjoyable and popular that nobody, nobody could possibly do. Without Hanyu and his rivalry, figure skating”s popularity wouldn’t be the same. Sometimes eyes of beauty is needed to appreciate him.
Nathan is definitely good. But I feel there will atleast be some figure skaters who can do the same way. But Yuzuru is soooo unique. He is like water when skating and it's like you just want to keep watching and watching and mesmerised by the art in front of you. Hell I didn't even liked figure skating because when I saw them it felt more like bunch of jumps on ice with music completely not related to the skating going on. But then I saw yuzuru skating/dancing along with the music and I found okay so this is figure skating and it's awesome.
I think the difference I can spot is that before Nathan jumps, you can tell he's going to do it because of his body posture and him looking like he's prepared to do it But when Yuzu is about to jump, he just flows with the music and leaps, surprising us because we didn't even see that coming as he's always so smooth. He's like a feather flying in the air.
I don't care how many medals Chen wins. He is a great skater, but Hanyu will always be my favourite, all that beauty and perfection, a truly artist! The Van Gogh of figure skating, a god! Thank you for mesmerizing us with your talent!💗🌟😍
Hanyu's quads are superb. The transitions, the air position, the rotations, the landing, everything is on point and so well done. Of course, judges don't give the correct scores but everyone can notice the difference.
@@MC-pm3gp that's why each of us has an opinion and prefferences. I can agree with Billy while you don't. It's ok but saying those things, you are not going to change what we think 👍
@@paolocastellano2771 if there is a long preparation and no steps before the jumps of course the success rate is higher. But since FS is not just a jumping contest, it should count the difficulty to approach the jumps.
A Brazilian reporter once said that while skating, other skaters tend to sell themselves as the best, that “i’m good, pick me”. Hanyu doesn’t, he just creates a whole new dimension when he skates
For me it’s the fact that Yuzuru seamlessly blends his jumps into routines and there’s little to no build of when a jump is coming. Honestly he’s so fluid and to me that’s just aww inspiring. Nathan is very athletic, his power is raw and incredibly masculine which is rare to see in figure skating in full force and I think that’s why I like seeing his stuff too. Still.... there’s just something about Yuzuru that makes me swoon and I simply can’t deny he’s my fave skater to watch pretty much ever.
Nathan Is a great athlete. Yuzuru is a great athlete and great artist. Nathan has power, but Yuzuru’s flow and grace is unbelievable. Nathan’s artistic expression is on par with most skaters, which is going through the motions with music without much emotion behind the movements. Yuzuru is one with the music. He uses his whole body to express emotions. He puts his heart and soul into each program and every movement is expressive down to his fingertips. There is no wasted movement in his programs. Every little move has meaning. I’ve seen such level of artistry in many dancers but very rarely have I seen it in figure skaters.
I’ve watched Nathan’s skates twice and said “wow” to his amazing jumps. For no reasons he got high scores and gold medals. But only Yuzuru can make me watch his skates thousands of times, even when he just has 1-2 jumps in one gala performance, or even falls when landing. Yuzuru is not a talented skater, a living legend but also my inspiration
I've kept trying to look at Nathan as another skater and try to appreciate his skating but.. I admit he got them clean powerful jumps and definitely you can see how being young is great and all. I admit he's good in his jumps! But!! I'm sorry but even if this guy wins yuzu for next Olympic 2022, yuzu will forever be my gold because he brings his skating to LIFE. Put it in this way, ( Nathan vs yuzu ) is like ( reading vs singing )
so true!!! and their way of skating is on a different spectrum. they are both on ice but the feeling is very different I think. I watch Nathan's performance too but I don't feel personally attached to it. his performance is perfect and admirable, his jumps are powerful and strong, but Yuzuru's bring certain feelings that makes you grateful you can witness it. the way he approached jumps is something I can't even describe in proper english lol. ah I guess I'm still too biased but well Yuzuru's skating pulls a lot of emotions from me so pardon me 😂😂
Nathan is music without dance, Hanyu is music with dance. Music is good. Dance is a plus. Music is audible, while dance/motion is visual. Our sight is always slightly more important or helpful than our hearing... isn't that the case? Reading?? I guess you mean boring or humdrum. Nathan is an interesting book... nonfiction.
if you take the jumps out of chens programs you've got nothing else to enjoy, but with yuzuru is a whole another story. he's just the perfect combination of an athlete and an artist the way he is one with the music from start to finish so mesmerizing and beautiful
@@moonyzwx4888...my negative comments? Tell your jealous kind to stop attacking other skaters first, hypocrite. You're the ones doing the crying here just because your fav isn't at the top. Both of them are legendary no doubt! but for me Yuzuru is a masterpiece. What he does is like painting in the ice you can feel different emotion when he skates, he almost tell a story.
When Nathan jumps it's like this massive body of energy is being used and he has a lot of stamina from a lifetime of hard work, but when Yuzu skates it's like a light feather, an elegant swan, a stream of water, the picture of grace elegance and it feels like it just comes to him naturally and that is what is so special about Yuzu, He is the essence, the beauty of figure skating while also being able to be a master at the technical elements.
I always feel iffy about people and esp the media labelling nathan chen as the "athletic" one and yuzuru hanyu as the "artistic" one because it kind of discounts how yuzuru hanyu is just as much of an athlete and just as strong because hello they are doing the same jumps.... its just his style and talent that he can also make them look effortless
absolutely! a lot more effort has to go into making the jumps as graceful and seemingly effortless as yuzuru does it. artistry and athleticism are not mutually exclusive/opposite concepts in skating because you need to be more athletic to have a greater artistry. not to mention the fact that out of the two of them yuzuru was the one attempting to land a quadruple axel!
if nathan works a bit more on his costumes it will be better bc the 2022 beijing olympycs FS costume looked horrible it was literally a 2010 galaxy printed shirt...
Yuzu is a phenomenal athlete with excellent technique on all of his jumps, but he didn't do "the same jumps" as Nathan. Yuzu only landed the 4Lz twice while Nathan landed it consistently throughout his career, including in combination. Furthermore, Nathan landed the 4F as a solo jump and in combination while Yuzu never attempted it in competition. With these being the 2nd and 3rd most difficult quad jumps (neither of them landed the quad axel), it's understandable that Nathan scored higher than Yuzu in many competitions, even when Yuzu's transitions and artistry were at a higher level
I like the two skaters, they are very good, but Hanyu has something very special in his skating, that is, it is not only perfect jumps, but his presentations convey what he feels, each choreography is very well planned and narrates something of background ... This guy is amazing.
There is just something mesmerizing about Yuzuru. Like you will definitely have a hard time looking away the moment he starts to figure skate. I’m just in awe.
Take any of Yuzu's shots in slow motion - they are all picture-perfect because at any moment the position of his arms, shoulders, neck, even fingers, everything! - is ballet beautiful. He is a real treasure. God's gift to Japan and to the world.
If you haven't yet, go watch Yuzuru's Notte Stellata exhibition performance and look out for his single delayed axel. He literally flies across the ice. I almost expected him to keep going and not land. That entire performance is SO beautiful.
With the age differences, yuzuru still considers amazing for his consistent achievement in this figure skating world, he always at top three in competitions, that means he is still alive with his improving skills till these days. I respect nathan also, i just hope that i can still see nathan skates in another 10 years.
Nathan is still young and obviously a great player. But the quality of the jump is different. performance and artistry. I don't think it's yet comparable to YUZU. For your information, I am Korean.
That is very true. I think Nathan Chen is a sportsman and excels figure skating with his incredible skills and raw power. Yuzuru however has this graceful, elegant and smooth quality to all of his movements. He perfectly combines sport and art, which is what makes him different from other figure skaters. Hanyu is older, giving Nathan a significant advantage. I hope to see more performances from Hanyu until his competitive career ends.
@@kiafromthemoon I fully agree that relationships or history between countries should not affect sports. However, unfortunately, most Koreans hate Japanese people. Therefore, Koreans rarely acknowledge Japanese even if they excel. (Of course, it's wrong, but not only Koreans but also citizens of many countries often judge sports with national feelings.)Because he is Japanese, there are many people who hate and bully him. Therefore, the fact that Koreans admit that Japanese are great means that it is even greater (I am a Korean and of course I don't hate Japanese).
I think that Nathan is more of what I personally call a base-value jumper. That's saying he actually does all the jumps properly, with no cheats. Executed, but still some ways to boost GOE. I think being able to do all the quads properly (with the exception of the axel) is already a huge advantage, whether or not they deserve positive GOEs. Just the base value alone and PCS to support them puts him in contention for gold every single time. The GOEs can be somewhat inflated imo, which is a little upsetting. What's even more upsetting is how the ISU rewards so many skaters nowadays with ratified quads AND positive GOEs, when they aren't honestly deserving of the base values in the first place. Off the top of my head, the only big quad jumpers who deserve their entire quad repertoire ratified are Yuzuru, Nathan and Jin Boyang. It's a very interesting battle between them jump wise; for Yuzuru his quality is unmatched, but he's trying to up his jump quantity. Chen's jump quantity is unmatched, but he's trying to up his quality. They're both in very good spots in the Quality VS Quantity spectrum because they've got both in varying degrees. Yuzuru's repertoire is not as impressive as Chen, but Yuzu's greatest strength is his balance of difficult jumps and quality. He doesn't necessarily weild the 4Lz like Chen or Boyang does, where Chen is almost guaranteed to land his 4Lz or 4F when planned. (The only skaters to really benefit from the 4Lz is really only Jin and Nathan at this point.) Chen definitely wins quantity wise, but for quality: Yuzuru's best 4T and 4S however will top Nathan's best 4T and 4S. It's all so exciting and nerve racking because the way they'd win gold is slightly different yet evenly matched. They're both brilliant in their unique ways.
Amen, brother. Yuzuru has aesthetically pleasing artistry down the pat. Nathan has more technical jumps but I sure don't love that eye-searing yellow monstrosity.
I actually really appreciate the difference in their general styles as well, Hanyu skates with broad dramatic and flourishing gestures, while Chen is an efficient skater each gesture calculated and no wasted movement. It makes for two interesting and thoroughly entertaining skaters, both skilled and dedicated to their craft.
Yuzuru Hanyu deserves all the glory! He is always the brightest star ,we always enjoy watching all his performances. As his fans, we are wish him a happy and prosperous life in the future. His achievements have already surpassed the definition of a champion🏆, we will always support him! Rest well, get your ankles well soon, come on! ❤️💪👍👍
I watched all the men's performances. Unfortunately, no one comes close to the wonderful, flawless, exciting, spectacular, Yuzuru Hanyu performances. Everyone who knows Yuzuru Hanyu's presentations is "spoiled" by them, because can't convince himself of the presentations of others. Everyone else looks heavy, awkward, emotionless. Yuzuru Hanyu! Thank you for everything you have offered the world so far! My eyes have seldom seen such beauty as you have given us. I wish you eternal success, a light and beautiful life, just like your presentations! ETERNAL CONGRATULATIONS!!! God bless you! You are the best of the best! I saw Narhan's performance four times. He doesn't convince me. The only strong point in his skating is only a different jump. He is cold, inexpressive, emotioness, and gross, coarse, in his moviments. Like a stone in a lace. Nothing artistic
Wish people in the comments would stop saying this is "artistry" versus "technique." This is technique vs technique. Speed, ice covereage, and edge control into and out of jumps IS technique PERIOD. That's the entire reason GOE (grade of execution) exists. The fact of the matter is that while Nathan is an amazing and consistent athelete, he is given GOE that is undeserved while Yuzuru is not given proper GOE (and that comes down to figure skating politics and improper judging). This IS NOT a battle between artistry and athleticism; it's a battle in Yuzuru not getting proper scoring for having more difficult transitions into/out of jumps, better speed, and more flow (in general). And this is no hate to Nathan who is an absolutely amazing skater btw. People always talk about "artistry" when it comes to scoring which is a shame.....clearly GOE is being manipulated in the current judging system to boost certain skaters despite them not checking all the required marks. Multiple skaters are getting GOE scores undeserved for simply executing a jump clean (and skaters like Yuzuru do not get the scores they deserve for difficult technical elements). Also, before I'm attacked, Nathan even has jumps that are executed better than his other jumps and yet he'll get higher GOEs on a jump that had less flow/difficult entry and exit/etc. Judging in figure skating has completely ruined the sport. Complete lack of consitency.
Thank you for this comment. We are literally comparing their JUMPS. not their skating. What art are they talking about? And those comments get so many likes 🤦♀️🙄
I completely agree, but I would also like to say that. There is a artistry to the jumps, it's the choice of how to do them which combines them together, technicality is just the execution of them. Yuzuru is a prime example of choosing artistry over technical with his choice of jumps despite it being scored lower, he takes the larger risk. Hopefully they will change the system to actually improve the quality and variety of style to FS. Btw I am a newb and so all my opinions are based of having surface observation so correct me if I'm wrong. Unaware of how the judging system is exaclty against him.
i enjoy yuzu’s jumps more- difficult transitions in and out, beautiful air position and axis, soft knees on the landing, and a deep, fast running edge out of them. a lot of people refer to him as an artist which is absolutely true, but he’s also one of the most incredible technicians this sport has ever seen. most skaters show a preference for a certain type of jump, but yuzu’s edge and toe jumps are equally as stunning (he does struggle a bit more with the latter though)
I don't watch figure skating but imo Nathen's jumps look powerful but they could be pulled off by other skaters (this doesn't mean they arent any less impressive or easy to do obviously). But I can't imagine anyone else replacing the same elegance Yuzuru has. I think that is why I enjoy watching his performances because he always makes figure skating look relaxing and easy.
To be honest, I don't really care how they jump, but care for what I feel from their performance. I was so touched and was in tears several times when I watched yuzuru 's programs, and trust me, there are not any quads in them!
Oh yes, 4 years old Chopin/Seimei nobody forgot, even if they hope to do that. Cheater still cheater in everything. All that sheat, which one hapening with no-figure skating in 2020 - it is thanks to ISU/fanyus hysteria about Hanyu's denied to participate in competitions.

No hay comparación definitivamente. Analizando a ambos patinadores realmente el verdadero patinador "artístico* es Yuzuru. When i see Yuzuru, one thing cross in my mind is Beautiful ! His ellegance smooth light delicate jumps movement was so excellent to watch, added his attraction anime handsome face, a whole package, just so beautiful !
The biggest difference between Yuzuru and Nathan’s jumps is you always tell when Nathan is about to jump but Yuzu blends all of his jumps in the music and gestures without long time jumping preparation. However, yuzu’s GOE scores never reflect this on. That’s kind of sad 😢 the judges should all be fair.
You can always tell someone does certain jump stop lying. Some jumps literally have to have them slow down or turn around. I agree, yuzuru’s landings and transitions are very graceful, however I can see mistakes sometimes, while Nathan can land them perfectly almost every time, plus everyone acts like Nathan has zero artistry because hanyu is better.
9:01.That’s where I am. If you can’t tell he was going to go jump, idk what to say. He looked back, slowed down a little, then turn a little and jumped.
Nathan is the "king" of quads, so they are announced prior to the jump. But he is becoming a more subtle, softer "king". It is nicer to watch. He as "king" however must maintain the jumps in a pristine disposition.
I agree. For me, the saddest part about the sport's emphasis on jumping is how it impoverishes the rest of the program for most skaters, who telegraph their jumps so much that there's practically nothing else but filler around spectacular leaps. But not Hanyu: his jumps are integrally part of his overall theme, and he just flows into them and out of them seamlessly. I have nothing against Chen (except his ugly & boring costume choices), but without the jumps I don't think his programs would be very interesting to watch.
@@xiyanzhang6155 Ugh, Nathan's jumps; when they are good, are as good as Hanyus. Use the last GPF as an example. You can't deny that his elements were better and deserved higher scoring than some of Yuzuru's best jumps.

@@MC-pm3gp That may be true but I also think that Hanyu, when he does land the jumps, has a more pure flawless quality. That being said, Nathan is like a machine and can do things endurance-wise ie jumps late in the program that the world has never seen. Nathan's power and explosiveness is nothing the world has ever seen before him. Hanyu's jumps in general are more technically perfect in terms of technique and aesthetics than anybody except for how he stops the rotation and does not really come up and out with his free leg. Kolyada does the up and out with his free leg with textbook perfection even on his quad Lutz that he hardly has ever landed in competition. I was hoping for some great things with him working with Mishin this year but he's still not doing more than one or two quad toes and a triple Axel double toe combo. He is making small mistakes like bobbling a triple Axel landing. Those kinds of stupid mistakes really put him at a disadvantage to Hanyu and Nathan where physically he has better posture, spins, skating skills and better looking 4Lutz..... I was hoping big things for Kolyada but I am afraid mentally he will never be able to bridge the gap and so the 5 quads he would need to do consistently to be in the mix and put pressure on Chen and Hanyu.
@@gium3980 Nathan has the most explosive power combined with the greatest mind control of any skater who ever lived. If his mind's strength/control is a quad Lutz, his nearest competitor is only doing a triple Axel..... Nathan has the most massive gap in the mental part of the equation over anybody and everybody......Just like we will never see another Midori Ito, we will most likely never see a mental giant of the stature of a Nathan Chen ever again....
NC is a great jumper and part of the public cares just for quads and forgets the sport is called ARTISTIC skating. NC spends a lot of time just getting speed to jump and the artistic part suffers and his jumps are not "out of nowhere" as one commmentator said. We all know he is going to jump because he takes a lot of time just preparing, while YH does a coreography with jumps inserted in it. YH is better when we think of the sport as artistic and athletic, but NC is rewarded using the math in his favor.
It’s also the power that NC has in his jumps. It seems like that style is what judges are preferring at the moment. The delicate style seems a bit dated and common. The athleticism is dominating the artistry.
@@9afinaI’m new to the figure skating community and I don’t know lots about it yet so when I read your comment I didn’t understand everything but to me I think Nathan might have “better” jumps but yuzuru’s jumps are elegant and that’s what I want to see. I get what your saying though

I agree with most ppl .I’m glad that I’m not the only one who think this. Nathan’s jump is strong and more consistence but Yuzu’s performance is the whole package. His body figure, his choreography , his presentation , his inner feeling, his body strength , his skill, his cloth , everything combine make me can’t my eyes off him. His performance is so pleasant to watch. I never be bored of it. He is music to my ears.
With all respect to NC's talent & hard works, I felt tired with his jumps and got bored with his performances . But for Yuzuru Hanyu, I re-watch him everyday during 7 months till today since I found him out in youtube. His jumps raised me up and his performances made me felt beloved 😊 . I used to like FS from young ages but quitted watching it since mid 199x. But now I felt in love again with watching YH ❤
both of them are very powerful and talented skaters Nathan skates powerfully and athletically and can do quads like nobody else it’s so amazing that he’s been on top since 2018 but forever and always yuzuru will be my favorite skater above all his just so good to watch?no matter what he does his so enchanting he can skate both powerfully and elegantly no wonder he’s everyone’s favorite he’s just so unrealistic plus his body proportions make his skating much more beautiful then it already is.His just of one of those people you look at and go “ah he was born to skate” They both respect each other and have no rivalry between them and I wish both of them nothing but the best!
I agree! I've been watching figure skating for years now, and I've never been as mesmerized in a performance as I was with Hanyu's. I usually watch it as a hobby, calculating the movements and analyzing the scores that were given by the judges. Hanyu is just a different breed, this was the first time I viewed figure skating as art and not just a sport. I'm also a huge fan of Chen. I think he's exceedingly talented and skilled. But I personally believe that no one (for now) beats Yuzuru, he's just the type you see and think "wow, some people were really born to skate".
The difference for me is that, there's being able to do it (with amazing technique) and then there's the epitome of it done in such a beautiful way that you just can't pull your eyes away. I constantly watch snowboarding in the winter games, and nearly everyone can pull of the same moves, but snowboarding is fun nonetheless, even when there's less awe factor about pulling off certain moves. And then there's figure skating which I've always thought was such a boring, repetitive sport to watch. Everyone basically does the same thing. Some do it a bit more better than the others, some do it with such power (like Nathan), some with more elegance. Then there's Yuzuru. The first time I saw him perform was to Seimei in 2018. And I swear to god I couldn't believe what I was seeing then. There was so much power and strength in all the movement that he did, yet somehow it was so beautiful and flowed like water or air. I can't think of any other way to describe Yuzu's skating other than he is literally the embodiment of what figure skating is meant to be. Like I always say, there's all the other skaters, good, bad, great, champions and gold medalists skaters... then there's Yuzuru.
Artistry comes from techniques and if ppl find that Yuzuru's skating is aesthetically better that's cuz his skills are indeed better. His execution of jumps is clean and presice with no pre-rotation or scrafice of transition. It takes more than talent to accomplish that. Yuzuru Hanyu bets his life to skating.
what i like about yuzuru's jumps is that they flow from one element into a jump to the next element. like a color gradient. they come out of nowhere but after they happen you're like "ah this feels right, this was supposed to be here". aditionally, the feather-like ease with which yuzuru skates simply cannot be replicated. sure you can execute jumps to perfection but to put your entire being into those few minutes and lay yourself bare on ice _through_ empiccable technique is an entirely different level that takes more than just an understanding of the 'right' way to do it.
I'd say that Yuzuru has the better landings, but Nathan has the better in-air position. The way he folds his body so perfectly and so quickly and stays so straight in the air is truly amazing. Yuzuru has the beautiful flow out of jumps that Nathan sometimes lacks. But in general, each has something that the other doesn't. Both of their takeoff techniques are textbook.
@Sophie vbiasland x The highest total score in a figure skating competition by a male is 335.30, achieved by Nathan Chen (USA) on 6-7 December 2019 at the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in Torino, Italy' wikipedia said this. Yuzuru is so good too but nathan is a king.
@Sophie vbiasland x im sorry but i dont really care about your opinion, in my heart i think its nathan, yuzuru and shoma the kings. They all deserve the title 'king'. i love them all espacially nathan so please respect my frk opinion(:
Nathan Chen's popularity is enough to prove that his false scores can't convince the audience. His applause in the Beijing Flower Skating Show was almost the lowest in the audience. The audience didn't even know that he was the champion and didn't like his funny and emotionless performance, because his program was empty and his technical movements were not standardized, while Yuzuru Hanyu's performance shocked all the audience, and many of the audience at the scene had tears in their eyes.
Mainland Chinese like you are so disgusting to make up lies. Nathan Chen was the only one to get standing ovation in Beijing Olympics while hardly anyone clapped after Hanyu's failure performance. Funny thing is a China Hanyu fan purposely took the photo of audience standing for Nathan and posted it on twitter, pretending it was a photo of audience standing for Hanyu. And wtf is "flower skating"?😂😂😂
Weightless

It’s crazy how they both have amazing jumps yet when yuzuru does it gives a completely different feeling. It’s hard to look away
yuzuru doesnt seem to show the effort that a jump takes at all in the takeoff - definitely sometimes in the landing, but the takeoff is always somehow composed and elegant
I think Yuzuru's quads are better. But then again, I fell asleep during Nathan's setup waiting for him to do his quad. Was it good?
@@randyarden9753 Oh gosh, that was...damn. I was awake for the most part and, yes it was good. Hahaha. Never felt like so with Yuzu's tho. Lol.
Umm it’s the opposite Chen has about 1/4 of pre-rotation on the ice whilst hanyu has almost none
@@emilyc1837 only on Lutz, but there is many other jumps.
Stronger jumps lol more like economical

I also think his artistry is linked with the heart - that’s what draws the ‘Pooh Bears’.
Every artist will tell you that. 👍

@@fannynoriega9249 Yuzuru was also a college student, he went to the best university in Japan. He graduated now even finished his thesis. Actually a lot of the skaters went to and is attending university full time, they just don't advertise it as much as Nathan does.
@@AuroraIvashkov I think bc in America we take going to Yale or Harvard too seriously. Making it more special than it should be
Even when Yuzuru fulfills all the criteria in the IJS, his GOE is still lower than it should be.
Hanyu is older then Nathan with more time to practice, so he would have a more advanced style.
@@crescentmishka740 he always had this kind of style, even as a 19 year old. He didn't got his first gold medal at such an early age for no reason. There's something ethereal and whimsical in the way he skates and glides through each performances....
Let’s forge an American passport for yuzu
Watched a bunch of Yuzu's performances over a month, what differs him the most with his opponents is his artistry, the very thing that makes him a performer, jumps are similar with every skaters but his execution of the aura, the music that lingers through his body. He doesn't cut the flow for jump and this character is what makes him different from all thenother skaters... . You forget yourself when you watch his show.
yuzuru has amazing transitions in and out, beautiful lines, on time with the music, and overall perfect artistry.. he's just *CHEF'S KISS*
Agree
So nicely said!
Chen has almost no transitions in his routines, Hanyu is poetry in motion.
I think the difference I can spot is that before Nathan jumps, you can tell he's going to do it because of his body posture and him looking like he's prepared to do it
But when Yuzu is about to jump, he just flows with the music and leaps, surprising us because we didn't even see that coming as he's always so smooth. He's like a feather flying in the air.
his names has the feather character in it ❤

Hanyu's quads are superb. The transitions, the air position, the rotations, the landing, everything is on point and so well done. Of course, judges don't give the correct scores but everyone can notice the difference.

All yuzuru jumps is soo gracefull
I've kept trying to look at Nathan as another skater and try to appreciate his skating but.. I admit he got them clean powerful jumps and definitely you can see how being young is great and all. I admit he's good in his jumps! But!! I'm sorry but even if this guy wins yuzu for next Olympic 2022, yuzu will forever be my gold because he brings his skating to LIFE.

so true!!! and their way of skating is on a different spectrum. they are both on ice but the feeling is very different I think.
Music is audible, while dance/motion is visual.

absolutely! a lot more effort has to go into making the jumps as graceful and seemingly effortless as yuzuru does it. artistry and athleticism are not mutually exclusive/opposite concepts in skating because you need to be more athletic to have a greater artistry. not to mention the fact that out of the two of them yuzuru was the one attempting to land a quadruple axel!

@@buldakcarbo I think I kinda matters coz of the tension between Japan and Korea?
@@yinghsi1207 why would it matter with figure skating rn?
(The only skaters to really benefit from the 4Lz is really only Jin and Nathan at this point.)
Chen definitely wins quantity wise, but for quality: Yuzuru's best 4T and 4S however will top Nathan's best 4T and 4S.
It's all so exciting and nerve racking because the way they'd win gold is slightly different yet evenly matched. They're both brilliant in their unique ways.
Well, didnt know I could agree with someone to that extent. Especially on the Hanyu/Chen matter
Agreed
Amen, brother.
Yuzuru has aesthetically pleasing artistry down the pat. Nathan has more technical jumps but I sure don't love that eye-searing yellow monstrosity.
I loved the thoroughness of your comment, I was looking for some excellent descriptions for both and I found it!
Yuzuru skates like a feather on ice.. it's surreal.
羽生的每一个表演都让我们百看不厌,动作和表情都是如此的优雅高贵,我们喜欢他❤️👍
Yuzuru Hanyu deserves all the glory! He is always the brightest star ,we always enjoy watching all his performances. As his fans, we are wish him a happy and prosperous life in the future. His achievements have already surpassed the definition of a champion🏆, we will always support him! Rest well, get your ankles well soon, come on! ❤️💪👍👍
I don't mind the scores but Yuzuru is the best in every aspect.
Yuzuru's jump is powerful and fast. his jump is the best ever.
I like yuzuru’s skating. Absolutely beautiful
Unaware of how the judging system is exaclty against him.
artistry is still part of this sport... such aspects are part of the judging criteria so...
@@kiafromthemoon But this video isn't about artistry, its cold hard jumps.
@@ppnexus2000 there’s artistry to the jumps too wdym
i enjoy yuzu’s jumps more- difficult transitions in and out, beautiful air position and axis, soft knees on the landing, and a deep, fast running edge out of them. a lot of people refer to him as an artist which is absolutely true, but he’s also one of the most incredible technicians this sport has ever seen. most skaters show a preference for a certain type of jump, but yuzu’s edge and toe jumps are equally as stunning (he does struggle a bit more with the latter though)
Yuzuru is feather on ice. Angel on earth. He floats. He belongs in the rink
To be honest, I don't really care how they jump, but care for what I feel from their performance. I was so touched and was in tears several times when I watched yuzuru 's programs, and trust me, there are not any quads in them!
Yuzuru is an artist while Nathan skates for the sport. Years later, Yuzuru's programs will be remembered forever.
True true true
This is so true
True
His skating will linger forever even when we’re gone
Oh yes, 4 years old Chopin/Seimei nobody forgot, even if they hope to do that. Cheater still cheater in everything. All that sheat, which one hapening with no-figure skating in 2020 - it is thanks to ISU/fanyus hysteria about Hanyu's denied to participate in competitions.
yup facts. Till this day, i go back to watch his worlds 2012 fs, sochi 2014 sp, gpf 2015 fs, worlds 2017 fs, pyeongchang 2018 sp/fs, Skate canada 2019 fs and 4cc 2020 sp/fs. THAT IS HOW MEMORABLE HIS PROGRAMS ARE!!! oh and not forgetting ALL of his EX programs too from 2011-2020.
Both are very different skaters, Yuzu is simply beauty on ice, Nathan just means business. Not taking anything away from NC, Yuzu just does it for me.
I agree. I don't really feel Nathan though he looks good jumping. There's just no umpff factor like Yuzu has.
@@poorapueblo8405 Extremely well said!
Can not compare GOE between international and US national. US national is always higher GOE.
Yet Nathan gets similar GOE in international comps.
@@ppnexus2000 have to consider the political aspect within it tho, ya know, have the us on ur side or Japan…
@@xiyanzhang6155 Ugh, Nathan's jumps; when they are good, are as good as Hanyus. Use the last GPF as an example. You can't deny that his elements were better and deserved higher scoring than some of Yuzuru's best jumps.
I used to follow men's skating in the 80's. So I'm not up to date on the new guys. That being said Yuzuru honestly impresses me
Yuzuru skills are satisfying to watch ❤️❤️❤️
yuzu jump is beautifull😍😍😍
Hanyu skates with such elegance and grace
All of Yuzu's jumps are from the last two seasons of international competitions, while Nathan's varied from international competitions to national championships of the three seasons. Love Yuzuru's jumps! They are absolutely amazing! 🤩 Yuzuru is the GOAT!! 🇯🇵⛸🐐👑💖
Yes, I used the highest GOE versions of the jumps to make a better comparison
Except he tends to fall at least once per competition. Nathan..hardly ever.
@@MC-pm3gp Because Yuzuru likes to complicate them with difficult entrances and outs. Chen doesn't.
@@pgarciaAP very well said agreed with you 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Nathan: consistency 💯
Yuzuru: quality 💯
Both have their strengths.
Nathan quality 100. Hanyu quality 40.
@@9afina why
@@jetrandom7569 i wrote it in comments, read it.
@@9afinaI’m new to the figure skating community and I don’t know lots about it yet so when I read your comment I didn’t understand everything but to me I think Nathan might have “better” jumps but yuzuru’s jumps are elegant and that’s what I want to see. I get what your saying though
@@jetrandom7569 the most elegant jumps is like jumps Satoka Miahara, because from three revolutions she did two on the ice. Hanyu did the same on toeloop, loop and salhove.
Both are marvellous but the specialty of Yuzu is that his performance hits right at your heart and brings tears to your eyes. That sets him apart. That's why he has a much bigger fan following, coz he deserves it. I have been amazed at Nathan's technicality and strength but I've never been moved to tears watching a Nathan Chen performance. But for Yuzu it seems like he's telling your story, no matter who you are, what story you have to tell.❤️
YUZURU, YOU ARE THE GREATEST OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!
When I watch Yuzu's performance, I feel like watching a beautiful dance, not a sport.
The dance was so smooth and impressive. That makes me like watching Yuzu more than other skaters.
Yuzuru's techniques are amazing and his program is so beautiful🔥😍
The GOAT 👑🐐
With all respect to NC's talent & hard works, I felt tired with his jumps and got bored with his performances . But for Yuzuru Hanyu, I re-watch him everyday during 7 months till today since I found him out in youtube. His jumps raised me up and his performances made me felt beloved 😊 . I used to like FS from young ages but quitted watching it since mid 199x. But now I felt in love again with watching YH ❤
Yuzuru's jumps are so seamless
both of them are very powerful and talented skaters Nathan skates powerfully and athletically and can do quads like nobody else it’s so amazing that he’s been on top since 2018 but forever and always yuzuru will be my favorite skater above all his just so good to watch?no matter what he does his so enchanting he can skate both powerfully and elegantly no wonder he’s everyone’s favorite he’s just so unrealistic plus his body proportions make his skating much more beautiful then it already is.His just of one of those people you look at and go “ah he was born to skate” They both respect each other and have no rivalry between them and I wish both of them nothing but the best!
No need to say a word, this great video said it all. Yuzuru is just a legend….
Artistry comes from techniques and if ppl find that Yuzuru's skating is aesthetically better that's cuz his skills are indeed better. His execution of jumps is clean and presice with no pre-rotation or scrafice of transition. It takes more than talent to accomplish that. Yuzuru Hanyu bets his life to skating.
i'm not saying anything but... I always cry during Yuzu's performance, they give me so much emotions.
YUZURU HANYU 👍
what i like about yuzuru's jumps is that they flow from one element into a jump to the next element. like a color gradient. they come out of nowhere but after they happen you're like "ah this feels right, this was supposed to be here". aditionally, the feather-like ease with which yuzuru skates simply cannot be replicated. sure you can execute jumps to perfection but to put your entire being into those few minutes and lay yourself bare on ice _through_ empiccable technique is an entirely different level that takes more than just an understanding of the 'right' way to do it.
Even the cover says it all...Yuzuru is only the figure skate ICON and MOST completed one.
Yuzuru Is the king, justo great
no nathan
@Sophie vbiasland x no cuz nathan as the world best score but yuzu is good too
@Sophie vbiasland x The highest total score in a figure skating competition by a male is 335.30, achieved by Nathan Chen (USA) on 6-7 December 2019 at the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final in Torino, Italy' wikipedia said this. Yuzuru is so good too but nathan is a king.
@Sophie vbiasland x im sorry but i dont really care about your opinion, in my heart i think its nathan, yuzuru and shoma the kings. They all deserve the title 'king'. i love them all espacially nathan so please respect my frk opinion(:
who started this beef? oh you! IMAO
Yuzuru is Michael Jackson on ice
And wtf is "flower skating"?😂😂😂
yuzu's most beautiful 4T+3T imo is on 2019 jnats i swear the flow of the jump, the rippon, and twizzles exit is just *chef's kiss*
