  • Here I want to highlight some SOTAwatch etiquette. Do not post spots for frequencies that an activator is not on. It creates confusion for other chasers and perhaps even someone else who is operating on the posted frequency.

The SOTA community is overwhelmingly supportive and well-mannered, both on the air and off. Making sure we preserve that is important - thanks for helping folks understand the expected standards of behavior.

For “QRV in 20 minutes” there is even a proper feature called alerts! It’s meant for exactly that purpose 😩

Exactly! And often they'll post on a legitimate frequency that has like a POTA op already on it. So a bunch of SOTA Chasers start hitting the POTA op and confusion ensues.

I've had that happen so many times .. it can kill a pileup or prevent you from activating. So annoying😑

Hamalert is great! I love it, until of course I don't have cell service but I can't post a spot then either.

It's possible to spot via SOTAmat now, check it out! Very cool tool. Also APRS Spotting if you have a radio that does that. 73!

Oh, I see what you mean. SOTAmat can grab recent spots too I think, but I haven't tried that feature.

@@N7KOM I usually just throw up my antenna and start chasing until somebody will spot for me. It hasn't happened very often though. I will have to reconfigure sodomate and also try APRS but I usually am carrying the FT60 with me and not the THD 72. I'm afraid of breaking the Kenwood.
