Following problems with my shoulder replacement, I had 4 posterior dislocations in 11 days. Because this isn’t a life threatening emergency I spent about 5 hours of agony each time waiting in the ER before I was knocked out and the shoulder was put back. In one case the doctor argued with me for hours as I begged him to fix it because “the X-ray doesn’t show it”. I’m recuperating from a second shoulder surgery and hope this never ever happens again.

I live less then 30 minutes from medical Plaza In Downtown Fort Worth where some of the best trauma units in the world are.But when I was 16 I fell into a door jam and had a posterior dislocation that stretch my tendons and ligaments from 1 inch to 5!when I got to the ER it took them 4 hours just to get it back in because it's so rare.I got lucky and one of the medical students they brought in to study my case was a Veteran Combat Medic. One of the most common causes of posterior dislocation is concussion(Not an uncommon experience in a war zone).I thank God for that man and all our troops everyday for his help.Thank you so much for sharing this video.Just because it's rare doesn't mean drs,and even patients, shouldn't know what to do the way I experienced it.

Thank you for this. I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome the hypermobile kind aka type 3.
It's so hard to explain this now I can show everyone why it hurts so much. I've always dislocated top the back never to the front. I had no idea that this is rare. Now I see why they bring the med students to help me get it back in.
    Thanks again Most Famous

I can relate! Ehlers-Danlos runs in my family lines too and this type of dislocation just happened to my teenage daughter yesterday. Which brought me to this video to learn more about it. Bob & Brad's videos have helped me tremendously with PT exercises that help alleviate pain associated with Ehlers-Danlos

I m a guy and have similar symptoms, only posterior luxations, thin hair and skin, drink generous amounts of water, found about this syndrome recently.
I reduced the past 6 injuries at least by myself through external abduction, thus avoiding swelling and implicitly hard recoveries.

I just gave myself one doing a hydroblade maneuver in figure skating. I cane down with my arms out stretched and it wasn’t a forceful landing because I was low to the ice. But it was like a chiropractor pushed it back and out and I said uh oh, then the pain came about 5 minutes later. Would reduction without pain medication have been excruciating? I was grateful for it, and the ER doc has me lie on my stomach and hang my arm off the bed and he pushed my scapula towards my spine and pulled arm down and it popped back in pretty easy. But that was 3 hours later, and those 3 hours hurt pretty bad!

I had my resistance bands secured around a door hinge and when sitting facing the door hinge I grabbed either end of the bands in each arm (now looped around the door hinge for resistance). I had my palms down and pulled my outstretched arms in towards my body and contracted my upper back muscles as the target. When doing this I heard and felt my left shoulder "slip"/"click". So I let go of the bands immediately and it clicked back in place. What happened to me? How can I prevent this?

Is it the same amount of recovery time each time it happens? I did mine in 2018 and it was fine after 6 weeks of being a sling and rehab. I'm very active and never had an issue since but the other day I was sitting in an awkward position and it popped out. Its in a sling and have a meeting with a specialist next week but it doesn't feel bad at all so hoping rehab can start sooner.

I also had a posterior dislocation that went missed on 9 exrays of my right shoulder. My shoulder went dislocated for 3 months resulting in a surgeon having to do a shoulder replacement due to the lack of blood supply that caused my humeral head to die. I was told that if the doctors would have looked for external rotation that it could have been caught. I am now 6 months post opp with the new shoulder and still have very limited range of motion. I really hope no one else has to go through anything like this.

I think I have an undiagnosed posterior right shoulder dislocation. Where can I go to get this fixed?
I’ve been in severe discomfort for 10+ yrs. I have the lump at the front, that I can feel on the right, but not the left shoulder.
When it first happened I had a feeling of being stabbed in the top of the right shoulder & couldn’t lift my arm for weeks. It gradually became slightly better but has never felt the same. I have full movement now, but clicks & crunches & is generally discomforting constantly. I have complained it feels dislocated many times, & it doesn’t feel right.
I’ve had a rotator cuff scan & shoulder injections for bursitis & the injection Dr said my shoulder is separated.
Does this sound right? One time i assume I put it back in in my sleep, tossing & turning & woke up with a stabbing pain @ top of shoulder, base of skull (behind ear) & between shoulder blade & thoracic spine & it was excruciating.
I think it popped back to the dislocated spot though, which now kind of feels normal, as I continued to use my arm & didn’t have it slung.

I had a posterior dislocation after falling over the bars of a bike and landing on my hands. The specialist at the hospital had no frickin idea what he was looking for, said as far as he was concerned on the x-rays it was not dislocated, and that i was a lier, because i managed to pop it bk in myself and said he thinks iv'e always been able to dislocate at will, like i was attention seeking or something (it may have been just partially dislocated IMO). But this was the day after it happened, at the time it happened it was verified by another person who's job was to relocate shoulders among other things, and a nurse, and another doctor i think he was, that is WAS dislocated, because after putting it back in it came out another 2 times in front of them...i explained this to the specialist and he said he's had years of training he knows what he is talking about and they don't..i guess in the UK training is poor....I then youtube it and it explains that posteriers are VERY hard to see on x-rays and just look normal UNLESS you take the x-ray from an anxillary position, then they are easy to see. Not only that but when it happened they could not give me a sling as all of the slings were out because they had 5 posterior dislocations in that week, apparently, despite being rare...i would say they are actually by far the most common in relation to bicycle accidents or falls when people go over the bars put their hands out in front of them. It now dislocates again at least once a year, but it's thousands of pounds for an operation so i can't really do much about it...if it happens to you make sure you tell the people at the hospital that it is vital they take the xray from the anxillary position (hope i'm spelling that right) or you may be treated as a lier who has nothing better to do....

I dislocated my shoulder ('85) hitting the bottom while surfing in Hawaii. I was upside down when I hit with my arm out, it popped out rotating back so my arm ended up over my head. Took 2 xrays to figure out how to rotate it back... so painful. I declined Arthroscopic surgery at Tripler since I was a 20 yr old athlete. Never bothered me until it came out 3 times in '87-'88, once dangerous while swimming and popped back in by itself in waiting room. So surgery in '88 hoping for Arthroscopic but damage too much so they did full surgery with screwing bone down to block dislocation. Never came out, but lost 50% mobility. Sore to this day..

I watched a few videos to try and self diagnose my shoulder pain. It's been coming and going for a few months now but it's been consistent the past week and I have a physical for a CNA job on Monday. I need to pass for the job, obviously! I did rotator cuff and failed the drop test, passed the others, I did impingement and failed the first (crossing your arm across with hand above shoulder and pushing forward) passed the others the only time I felt pain was lifting up or setting it down and sometimes during rotation but I didn't think it was a fail because it wasn't close the the pain I feel.
I also didn't feel pain passed my elbow until the second test. Now it is like a hot feeling going from my shoulder all the way to my fingers. I am allergic to ibuprofen but I can deal with the allergies if need be! My skin just dries out and kind of falls off but I deal with it if I really need to!
Do you have any idea what could be wrong?

@tao2007 i did some exercise at home and stretching (not very often), but it's not the same as going to the gym with weights and all, it's very important to stretch, more than we might think.
