All the same, Palpatine's manipulation of the battles Anakin was involved in to ensure a victorious image of the Hero Without Fear backfired on him. Due to his win-loss record, Anakin had become grossly overconfident in his own abilities, believing himself to be truly undefeatable. This would serve to bring down the handsome hero of the people when he dueled Obi Wan on Mustafar, his arrogance getting the better of him and resulting in his severed limbs and horrible deformities. In many ways, the Emperor essentially set his apprentice up to fail with his manipulations giving Anakin a false sense of invincibility.
It didn't help that he WAS as good as he thought he was. He cut down something like fifty or so Jedi in the temple, not counting younglings. This includes powerhouses like Cin Drallig. Just not enough to beat the likes of Obi.
Some beloved Chancellor Palpatine was. The fact that he was a Sith Lord the whole time is just staggering. A lot of times, evil works among us more than we know.
Goddamn, Star Wars is so much smarter and more interesting than the movies ever portray it as. This is kind of worldbuilding is genius. And this doesn't even sound too contradictory of canon lore either, so I can imagine this is fairly accurate either way.
Ok here's a question , why didn't Palpatine instead use Anakin instead as a symbol. "I sent anakin to destroy the evil traitorous Jedi and this is what happened to him, what a sacrifice he gave in service to the republic" The same way he turned the publics opinions on Windus actions. Wouldn't that have made more sense, and made anakin way more sympathetic and loved? Rather than create the terror that is Vader? Palpatine would have retained the love of the public by acknowledging that Anakin continued to fight for the new empire, and Anakins identity would be appreciated by the citizens as a hero further.
Zahi Abu Ramadan I think Palpatine presumes that looking as handsome is the best PR move. Be a mask if you can’t be handsome, but cry for sympathy if you can be neither handsome nor a mask. Palps had no choice but to go for sympathy points after his duel - in the Rebels finale, he still prefers to be a holo-facade of a kindly grandpa. He cultivated Anakin as a poster-boy assuming it would be impossible for future imperial officers to see (handsome) Vader and not go “Duh, that’s Anakin from the Clone Wars”. But suddenly stuck with scarred and deformed Vader, the poster-boy move was off the table, so it was better to keep a mysterious, scary, masked enforcer on standby and off cameras if his face could be concealed even from elites. In some situations, that was even better than poster boy. (I assume clone Wars-era Palpatine did not expect to demand Anakin to go through Sith life always using a mask/voice modulator SOLELY keep folks like Thrawn and Tarkin guessing; it was a medical necessity with a political side-use).
@@connerclark3678 a white armour that resembled a mythical knight would hide the deformity and a voice modifier to sound normal would still fix the issue though.
Did people learn Vader is Anakin after Emperor and Vader's death and Vader/Anakin saved galaxy again? Or they just know Luke went to Death Star II and killed both of them?
Obi wan too was widely viewed in a positive light if you read the opening of Revenge of the Sith novelization. Kenobi and Skywalker, we're viewed as the ones you called in when the situation was dire. Both powerful on their own but unstoppable together. I'm paraphrasing but it was something like that
They were basically Steve Rogers and John Walker If they became a duo, or even Sam and Bucky If both of them inherited the Captain America mantle after Steve retired!
Basically everyone else in the Republic Army: *follows the rules* The public: *doesn’t like them at all* Anakin: *doesn’t give a crap about protocol and break the rules all the time* The public: He’s a war hero
MrTrex245 no they were guarding every high officer but we only saw Krennic on a planet and not on a Stardestroyer/ the Deathstar and we all know that there is no need of elite troopers to guard someone on the Deathstar.
Nico Laub this doesn't even make any sense xD I also don't like what Disney is doing with the star wars universe and especially the canon but Deathtroopers weren't their invention as far as I know
Rick van Velzen Thrawn got Death troopers so I assume they are for high ranking officers with unique titles like Director Krenic Grand Admiral Thrawn and maybe they will make Grand moff Tarkin have them
Why didn't Palpatine make Vader's identity public then? Surely it would have a propaganda masterstroke to portray Anakin as the hero who sacrificed everything to save the Republic and paint the Jedi in a even worse light for mutilating him.
I think having Anakin die as a matyr woulld be more effective, as his image would just be ruined if he was revealed to be Darth Vader. Palpatine also wanted to rid himself of Vader eventually, so this was a good opportunity to make way for that end goal, since the people might be less willing to accept the "sudden" death of a war hero than a random enforcer.
I would like to appreciate Anakin own heroic acts. He was a a gifted fighter, leader, tactician, and beloved hero. He was in a way the "The Everyman", a former slave, who went beyond and become a legend. No to say that he was a handsome, and charismatic young man. To be honest Palpatine didn't had to try hard to make him a poster boy. His selfless and couragerous acts, make him perfect for the role.
looks like EA is releasing a new game this year Rome II: Total War (EMPEROR PALPATINE EDITION) you get to control both sides and at the end, the only winner is YOU
It was always a two man team, said like it was one thing "Skywalker and Kenobi". The Hero with No Fear and the Negotiator. Together they were THE hero team of the Republic. Anakin was the public face, because Obi-wan didn't like the fame. But the children knew that when the Republic truly needed saving, "Skywalker and Kenobi" would be there.
Qui gon jin: please train anakin *died* Obi wan kenobi: well.. okay i guess, i mean what could go wrong he just an innocent boy *A couple of years later Anakin: YOU UNDER ESTIMATE MY POWER
I think you answered that question very well. I got a similar impression when reading the Revenge of the Sith novelization that Anakin's public image was being built up by Palpatine so that he would inspire admiration and provide a good face for the Empire, a good face that would be loyal to Palpatine (and so direct admiration, respect, and loyalty to Palpatine). It helps when an enforcer is thought of as a protector first.
Has everybody beyond myself really stopped to realize how much worldbuilding the SW world has done, all in all, since the release of the prequels? Obviously I'm not the only one -- but it's still impressive to stop and realize.
Forza Ninetails yep ! And this is why the prequels are my favorite star wars movies and universe I know there are some bad lines or other things, but the story is soooo interesting as the world building. The clone wars series are my favorite show, and anakin in clone wars is amazing (character developpement) and I think we can more apreciate him so his death" in RTS is so much sadier =( I adore the original trilogy too, but I'm not really into rebels stuff in general. This era is less interesting for me ^^
Awesome video man! But don't you think the emperor could have used Anakins wounds, which were inflicted by a Jedi, to create sympathy? A "Your hero went through all this, is now ugly and crispy, but he still fights for you!" ploy? Maybe a bit difficult due to his physical appearance, but if it was Anakin's public image the emperor wished to exploit, that option may have made more sense imho. Is there something else I am missing here?
Zurbach well no. Since vader was now a insane blood thirsty killer full of anger his image of anakin would have been ruined. Palpatine also wanted to ditch vader down the line since he was injured. It was more effective to have anakin die a martyr at the temple than have his image be ruined by the reveal of vader.
He most likely would've still told Windu about Palpatine, but in this timeline he wouldn't follow them to the Chancellor's office, leaving the lightsaber battle to play out exactly the same, except this time there's no one to ***disarm*** (Lol) Windu, leaving him to destroy Palpatine.
This only makes me wonder if both Anakin and Palpatine weren't disfigured, they would continue to be popular and public throughout the Empire. I mean, Anakin would be feared still, but more respected
They'd start losing popularity quick after the destruction of Alderaan. People were fairly content within them empire until then-an event which inspired many people to join the rebels.
I jus realized that luke and leias birthday is when padme died, darth vader was born, the empire was made and the jedi ended. But that night hope was born.
I'm still not sure why Palpatine decised not to let the public know Vader was Anakin. They could actually use the 'truth' to their advantage to gain support. The hero of the Republic was cut down and mutilated by Jedi Conspirators, cursing him to live on inside a suit of armor to sustain him. Would that not boost public hatred for the Jedi, and increase sympathy towards Anakin, thereby winning prolonged support?
I feel like Palps is bad at PR. Anakin returning to his side , missing limbs and burned to a crisp, even as the republics greatest hero shows why everyone must do their part to defeat the Jedi. Whilst the barbarity of the Jedi could break his body, his love for the people is so strong that he sustained himself. His mission isn't over until we have peace. Anakin has given so much for you already, and now he needs your help. Anakin will fight alone if he has to, but would you let him? That's a brand that makes it impossible for people to say no to you.
I love the parallels though. The most loved hero of the Republic ends up destroying it and the most feared villain of the Rebellion ends up saving it. *chef's kiss* poetic cinema
Actually there's a Twist in Palpatine's plan that he did not anticipate: in an alternate timeline that was shown in the Revenge of the Sith game: if Anakin won the duel against Obi-Wan by a back attack impalement; he would have met the emperor on the landing pad and with Palpatine praising Anakin and giving him a new lightsaber and he can took the saver and cut him down taking control of the Empire as well as using his new Darkseid powers to heal Padme and convert her into the dark side which would a later affect their children! And in the future Luke Skywalker and Leia Skywalker would have continued the corruption of the Empire's Legacy in a more manageable way that the Loyalty of the Galaxy would have lasts a lot longer than Palpatine's reign!
"Captain America of the Republic" Oh god...as a Marvel Comicbook reader. The irony is heavy with me. As for spoilers all of you. Captain America turned out to be a Hydra Spy. So in turn. It makes perfect sense.
palpatine didnt want anakin to go to utapau, he wanted anakin to think he did. he knew if he asked the jedi to send him they would refuse if for no other reason that palpatine asked for it. that would further show anakin that palpatine was on his side while the jedi were holding him back. he needed anakin on coruscant when grievous was killed and the jedi would demand he step down, then goad the jedi into aggression so anakin would see how corrupt they were
I always felt like Anakin's public persona should have played a part in Revenge of the Sith. He kills Dooku, so Palpatine props him up to the Republic. His newfound love and admiration from the Republic would help me buy his turn to the Dark Side.
This was my top beloved upload from your channel. Anytime a SW fan devotes thoughtful and insightful time into Anakin Skywalker, I immediately become more enamored. The opportunity for a "heroic" Darth Vader was only possible had Padme lived and their children willingly been raised under the Empire. Not an easy feat for an Order dedicated to only two Lords at a time.
I thought the Emperor suggested that Anakin be sent to kill Grievous because he knew they would reject him, putting another nail in his loyalty to the jedi and that Palpatine actually wanted Anakin close to him during this time as he knew it was time for the Republic to fall.
This video was very very good really enjoyed it the fan art on there was amazing as well especially liked the real life representation of how they looked during the clone wars
Why is it that during the completion of the first Death Star, the Jedi are considered to have been part of an ancient religion even though it was about 20 yrs after the Jedi were killed? It seems like they're making the time of the Jedi to be much older than it was in reality.
To the common people, the Jedi were worshipping an ancient religion. However, they saw it as a scheme to take power. They didnt believed the Jedi had lost their ways and humble beginnings and embraced a power-hungry attitude. Non force sensatives didnt believe it as they couldnt feel the force for themselves. After the Jedi died, it was just an old religion followed by radicals that were wiped out
The Jedi have been around for at least a few thousand years, so they are an ancient organization. That being said, maybe it would've made more sense if their numbers had been smaller in the prequels?
The real world media has convinced so many people in that gender doesn't exist, that there is no difference between the genders. Even though the contrary has been quite so obviously true for as long as humans civilization has been around. The media also simultaneously tells people there are more than 2 genders. People will believe the media if a lie is repeated often enough, and if they believe others share those same beliefs
So in one word what I got from this: Because of Palpatine :D You have great videos! My first comment here on your channel, have been watching these for few days now! :)
1:53 "His real loyalty LAY with the republic" You are using the past conjugation of "to lie (deceive)" however in this context you should be using "to lie (lie down)"
But did Anakin know that the Republic and it's citizens adore him? If he did I can only imagine how much pain he felt when one minute the galaxy loved him, then the next the whole galaxy hated and feared him.
This video was absolutely brilliant I subscribed straight away loved all the details and great artwork really brings the story to life . keep up the good work 🙂
So Palpatine created the Rebellion's best propaganda? "Hey, remember that Anakin Skywalker guy we all loved? Turns out his son is doing the same thing for these 'rebel' guys! Maybe they have something going with that."
Thanks for your videos. For clear voice and subtitles.. as no other SW channels have :D I never tought there are channels that expand Star Wars so much for fans :D These videos with "what if.." and many other videos around background of SW. And what I like most is they are legit, nothing crazy, most of content in your videos I think is completely true and maybe even will be later confirmed in canon. Even ones from EU.

👏🏼
Preach 👏
It didn't help that he WAS as good as he thought he was. He cut down something like fifty or so Jedi in the temple, not counting younglings. This includes powerhouses like Cin Drallig. Just not enough to beat the likes of Obi.
Couldn't see the obvious high ground.
He was besting obi wan that's why obi wan went there to bait him he couldn't keep it up and knew he was cocky enough to go for it
Some beloved Chancellor Palpatine was.
Lol you could say it's fake news
Primarch Alpharius Well, it's not fake but overstatement. Anakin did really good job in Clone Wars but he was not alone at all.
Well, Anakin was Alpharius after all of that

It's amazing how media collusion is a powerful weapon against your political enemies. Whether they be the Jedi, the Republicans, or the Gamers.
If Palpatine revealed his dislike of Sand he would have surely became despised
because they understand anakins pain for sand
***** yes but did you ever hear the story of Darth plaguies the wise jk I'll stop doing the sand comments
Mike Lofky Then stop uttering outdated memes.
Ok here's a question , why didn't Palpatine instead use Anakin instead as a symbol. "I sent anakin to destroy the evil traitorous Jedi and this is what happened to him, what a sacrifice he gave in service to the republic"
The same way he turned the publics opinions on Windus actions.
At the point of seeing him delimbed and burned, Sidious realized just how hateful, just how Sith Anakin would become under the right conditions.
Anakin would also have more faith in the Sith and believe they were right
It'd be f****** hilarious if you ended one of these question based episodes with
"F*** if I know!"
I actually kind of thought of doing something similar as an April Fools video lol
Dew it.

My name is Obi Wan! How do you do? Now you're gonna die!
Props to the first one who gets that reference.
i gotit but i dont remember where its from..
Did people learn Vader is Anakin after Emperor and Vader's death and Vader/Anakin saved galaxy again? Or they just know Luke went to Death Star II and killed both of them?
Likeaboss I think they knew just that the rebels destroyed death star. In force awakens they think luke skywalker is a legend
Kralj Lokilo Hmm... then Luke didn't say anything about it.
Ivo Bakardzhiev I know that but i'm talking about after his death. I'm questioning did people learn the truth.
Ivo Bakardzhiev Only Emperor know, noy even Tarkin

Obi wan too was widely viewed in a positive light if you read the opening of Revenge of the Sith novelization. Kenobi and Skywalker, we're viewed as the ones you called in when the situation was dire. Both powerful on their own but unstoppable together. I'm paraphrasing but it was something like that
They were basically Steve Rogers and John Walker If they became a duo, or even Sam and Bucky If both of them inherited the Captain America mantle after Steve retired!
Basically everyone else in the Republic Army: *follows the rules*
The public: *doesn’t like them at all*
Anakin: *doesn’t give a crap about protocol and break the rules all the time*
The public: He’s a war hero
Can you make A video About why the Empire did not used deathtroopers after Rogeu One in the following episodes.
Rick van Velzen only Director Krennic cared about them, that's why only he had them
MrTrex245 no they were guarding every high officer but we only saw Krennic on a planet and not on a Stardestroyer/ the Deathstar and we all know that there is no need of elite troopers to guard someone on the Deathstar.
Nico Laub this doesn't even make any sense xD I also don't like what Disney is doing with the star wars universe and especially the canon but Deathtroopers weren't their invention as far as I know
Rick van Velzen Thrawn got Death troopers so I assume they are for high ranking officers with unique titles like Director Krenic Grand Admiral Thrawn and maybe they will make Grand moff Tarkin have them
MrTrex245 thrawn had deathtroopers
Why didn't Palpatine make Vader's identity public then? Surely it would have a propaganda masterstroke to portray Anakin as the hero who sacrificed everything to save the Republic and paint the Jedi in a even worse light for mutilating him.
I think having Anakin die as a matyr woulld be more effective, as his image would just be ruined if he was revealed to be Darth Vader. Palpatine also wanted to rid himself of Vader eventually, so this was a good opportunity to make way for that end goal, since the people might be less willing to accept the "sudden" death of a war hero than a random enforcer.
because it would ruin his image. imagine a hero oppressing you
@@son_guhun Vader died as a matyr against the treacherous rebellion I think Palpatine planned to make a small scale rebellion guaranteed it back fired

palpatine: Yes, The empire shall remain intact for many years with Anakin as the face of it...

Palpatine: God damn it.

Well said
He can relate to the common citizen. Most of the jedi grew up in sheltered environments. The people's hero.
looks like EA is releasing a new game this year
Rome II: Total War (EMPEROR PALPATINE EDITION)
you get to control both sides and at the end, the only winner is YOU
It was always a two man team, said like it was one thing "Skywalker and Kenobi". The Hero with No Fear and the Negotiator. Together they were THE hero team of the Republic. Anakin was the public face, because Obi-wan didn't like the fame. But the children knew that when the Republic truly needed saving, "Skywalker and Kenobi" would be there.
Qui gon jin: please train anakin *died*
Obi wan kenobi: well.. okay i guess, i mean what could go wrong he just an innocent boy

Anakin: YOU UNDER ESTIMATE MY POWER
Wow, it's actually totally brilliant the way all of that fits together. Thanks for the interesting and entertaining video!
1:43 Someone ate a lot during the off-time XD
Seriously, whoever drew this Anakin must've been falling asleep as he was doing it. =3=
Has everybody beyond myself really stopped to realize how much worldbuilding the SW world has done, all in all, since the release of the prequels? Obviously I'm not the only one -- but it's still impressive to stop and realize.
Yeah, and to think it's the same prequels that everyone loves to bash and tear apart. Interesting, isn't it?
Forza Ninetails yep ! And this is why the prequels are my favorite star wars movies and universe
I know there are some bad lines or other things, but the story is soooo interesting as the world building. The clone wars series are my favorite show, and anakin in clone wars is amazing (character developpement) and I think we can more apreciate him so his death" in RTS is so much sadier =(
I adore the original trilogy too, but I'm not really into rebels stuff in general. This era is less interesting for me ^^
Imagine emperor palpatin on Twitter Aniken just wiped out the Jedi because they betrayed the republic that's my boy ~ palpatin
CooperB27Gaming #Slaughter
Heh.
3:43 This is where the fun begins.
2:00 Anakin doesn't even have a real right hand.
It was more effective to have anakin die a martyr at the temple than have his image be ruined by the reveal of vader.
what if anakin never fell in love with padme? would he kill palpatine instead of windu? seems likely to me.
No idea Raven but you need to check Yang
He most likely would've still told Windu about Palpatine, but in this timeline he wouldn't follow them to the Chancellor's office, leaving the lightsaber battle to play out exactly the same, except this time there's no one to ***disarm*** (Lol) Windu, leaving him to destroy Palpatine.
@@lorddullahan that true if I didn't left the jedi order
This only makes me wonder if both Anakin and Palpatine weren't disfigured, they would continue to be popular and public throughout the Empire. I mean, Anakin would be feared still, but more respected
also, the suit wouldn't have limit him, and would hella powerful. if you haven't done a video about this then I'd think it would be good
They'd start losing popularity quick after the destruction of Alderaan.
TheMegaPrimus Because the OT happened
Because he forsaw just how hateful Vader would be under the right circumstances
I feel like Palps is bad at PR. Anakin returning to his side , missing limbs and burned to a crisp, even as the republics greatest hero shows why everyone must do their part to defeat the Jedi. Whilst the barbarity of the Jedi could break his body, his love for the people is so strong that he sustained himself. His mission isn't over until we have peace.
Anakin has given so much for you already, and now he needs your help. Anakin will fight alone if he has to, but would you let him?
That's a brand that makes it impossible for people to say no to you.
Anakin: I used to be a Jedi like you, then I took a high ground to the knee.
Really love posterboy/postergirl angles to fictional heroes, especially if they end up corrupted later on.
Anakin would be board as hell if the clone wars never happened.
Dalton Lang A sand board you mean?
B O A R D .
You explained really well and you even went further in explanation that helped me understand.
"Captain America of the Republic" Oh god...as a Marvel Comicbook reader. The irony is heavy with me. As for spoilers all of you. Captain America turned out to be a Hydra Spy. So in turn. It makes perfect sense.
anybody notice the armor Anakin is wearing @ 0:51 is a prelude to the armor of Darth Vader just different color pallet
General Skywalker skin
palpatine didnt want anakin to go to utapau, he wanted anakin to think he did. he knew if he asked the jedi to send him they would refuse if for no other reason that palpatine asked for it. that would further show anakin that palpatine was on his side while the jedi were holding him back. he needed anakin on coruscant when grievous was killed and the jedi would demand he step down, then goad the jedi into aggression so anakin would see how corrupt they were
This is one of the greatest videos I have watched from you. It was so well thought out and makes complete sense. Keep up the amazing work!

He was the best star pilot in the galaxy, and a cunning warrior, and he was a good friend.
4:00 that's a wonderful shot of Anakin. Although he's sit a Jedi you can see/feel the darkness in him.
After the Jedi died, it was just an old religion followed by radicals that were wiped out
Well the Jedi are ancient they have been around for over Ten Thousand year's so they are pretty old at this point.
Another possible explanation is that Han Solo was being obtuse
The Jedi have been around for at least a few thousand years, so they are an ancient organization. That being said, maybe it would've made more sense if their numbers had been smaller in the prequels?
The real world media has convinced so many people in that gender doesn't exist, that there is no difference between the genders. Even though the contrary has been quite so obviously true for as long as humans civilization has been around.
The media also simultaneously tells people there are more than 2 genders.
People will believe the media if a lie is repeated often enough, and if they believe others share those same beliefs
Every time I watch a video on Palpatine’s plan makes me realize how much of a complete genius
All that aside, it probably didn't hurt that he was a pretty boy either.
