  • Hey guys, just wanted to share how our new incubator is working, and show some of our new chicks. The incubator is working very well, much better than the old homemade one we used previously. Thanks for watching, and God bless.

    Hi jnullo love your videos. Can you advise I have the same incubator as you and am running on a 60% hatch rate,[not to good] there does not seem to be a problem with fertility because the eggs have dead chicks in them, Now I know the temperature is correct 37.6 as I have a second thermometer, I am wondering if I have my humidity is a problem I noticed in your previous comments you recommend humidity of 60 to 65 is this through out the 21 days? I was told by the suppler to keep humidity to 55 / 60 and when you get to day 18 up it to 70 just wondered what you do. cheers man keep the videos coming.

    I ordered eggs off ebay . It took 4 days to be delivered and to begin the incubation process. The lady said they should hatch and has a 100% positive feed back but it was very cold and we had a freak snow storm during the shipping time. Has anyone had a similar situation with a positive outcome? I'm feel very pessimistic. Great video BTW! thumbs up!!!

    I have one just like yours but a double decker. I was hoping that it is a good incubator. My first chick just hatched and I am on day 20. I have both chicken and duck eggs - so hoping I will be able to do both at the same time. Love your video! I too have a question on adding water. Did you start out with a cup or more of water and then just add more to keep it at 60 - 70 %?

  • @alexnguyen2148
    @alexnguyen2148 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    So you kept the one which came out on the day 19th in there until 22th day? Did u have to feed and water him for 3 days or it could survive without it?

    These have come down in price. I like them way more than the styrofoam hovabators becaue they monitor humidity which is very important. Less than 100 bucks and you can start hatching your own chicks. Good product.

    John, thanks for sharing. I have a question about the very first egg that you showed on day 19 that pipped. I never saw any further progress in the video. Is that the chick that didn't make it? If it is, could you have helped him hatch when you realized he was having trouble? I haven't ever seen anyone help the chicks along. Is there a reason for not helping? Could you share with all of us the reason not to help? Thank you!

    • @jnull0
      @jnull0  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Lisa, the first one hatched in the middle of the night and the chick that died was suffocated by the egg membrane I think. We usually try to let nature take its course on hatching because it is part of the chick developing muscles and strength. If I see a chick having obvious trouble I will help it along a little, but remember this is part of letting them do what they do when they hatch. Most of the ones we help will have the shell stuck to them, or dont have a big enough hole to breath properly so we will help clean them and make sure their pip hole is big enough to breath. This is just what I do, I am no expert by any means. Hope this helps....................................J

    • @ADayInLisasLife3947
      @ADayInLisasLife3947 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      jnull0
      Thanks for your quick answer, John. I wondered if the reason was related to strength as you said it is. I was thinking about the butterfly. If a person "helps" the butterfly, it will die because it is fighting through the chrysalis that moves the fluids from the body into the wings. So, If I get chickens some day, as I hope to do, the hardest part for me will be not "helping." Your answer helps very much.

    I have some foolish questions, How do you candle the egg to know if it is fertelized? Why when they first start pipping dont you crack the egg open for them? Many thanks for your Videos, keep em coming.

    • @jnull0
      @jnull0  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey John, we candle our eggs with a bright LED flashlight. We shine the light through the shell to see if there in an embryo or veins forming, we do this after about 6 or 7 days. We do help some of the chicks once they start pipping, if they are having trouble. Most of them, nature will take its course, this is part of the chicks development and muscle strengthening. I am not an expert bro, just some of what I do. Hope it helps.......................................J

    I'm curious, you don't feed them in the first few days? What is the first thing you feed them? Thanks for the vid. :D

    • @jnull0
      @jnull0  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Louise, when the chicks hatch they still have part of their yolk sack in their bellies, so they can go a couple of days without eating food while they are drying and getting their legs stronger. We feed then chick starter feed on about day two or three when we put them into the brooder. We also put some electrolytes in their water to help them hydrate properly. Hope this helps......................J

      Cokeman just be careful if you are going for this brand, there are a lot of "knock-offs" out there that look just like this. Looks like J got a good one! I spent a lot of time comparing incubators, reading reviews, and settled on a hovabator 1588. My old hovabator 1602 will be my hatcher. Don't be turned off by the styrofoam ones, they do work really well with the built in fan.

    is it expensive? I was recommended by the hatchery that this brand is the one they used, either people hire from them to hatch the eggs or buy it. But they are for many eggs. If I only want to hatch 6 or 7 eggs for started, they don't have a small one I think.

    hi
    just a quick question on the janoel incubator
    how much water did you use (did you fill 1 or 2 channels with water for 1st 18 days?) and how much water from18 days +
    temp + humidity settings for hens ? + ducks ?
    any info on this incubator would be helpfull

    • @jnull0
      @jnull0  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      alf h I can't help with the ducks Sir as I don't raise them. We keep our temp set at 37.7C. We usually keep enough water in it to keep the humidity no higher than 60% for the first 18 days, then around 65% until they hatch (21days for chickens, 23 for pheasants) so the egg membrane doesn't dry out and suffocate the chic., It really depends on weather to determine how much water to keep in there. In the winter we had both channels full, and now we just have one. Hope this helps, if you have any more questions let me know bro.....................................J

    How much time do you give before you know a chick is not going to hatch?
    Is it true all the males are killed :(
    Why do they have to be rolled or turned?
    Please anyone feel free to answer :)

    • @jnull0
      @jnull0  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey shortie, good to see you. I will wait until day 23, if by then the egg hasn't "pipped" or the chick hasn't started to come out, then I remove it. We only kill our males when they are about 6 months old for meat...lol. The eggs need to be turned to keep the chick from sticking to the inside membrane of the egg for the first 18 days, then we stop turning them so the chick can hatch properly without getting stuck. Hope that makes sense. Have a great night shortie..............................J

    What birds have you found to be the best for meat? Do you use your birds for duel purpose or you have meat birds and others for layers?

    • @jnull0
      @jnull0  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are several breeds that are great dual purpose birds Brain. I have Black Australorp/Dark Cornish crosses. We will keep or sell the hens as layers and butcher the roosters for meat, that way we are always refreshing our laying flock and have chicken in the freezer. We will butcher our layers when they are about 4 years old and stop laying......................J

    Hello Jnull0, nice video, now my incubator temperature is 38.0, and humidity is 72. how should i reduce the fumidity to be 65. Please help me im newbie..

    • @jnull0
      @jnull0  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      What we have to do is to check the water a few times a day and add a little at a time to keep our humidity where we want it. If you add too much water the humidity will be too high. Good luck......................J

    • @jnull0
      @jnull0  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Chris Sk not sure about the settings Chris, I think I would contact the manufacturer and see what they have to say, you might need to have them replace the egg turner tray....................J

    we just bought this incubator and it came in today. we cannot find in the manual exactly how much water to add the bottom upon initial set up. could you please help me?

    • @jnull0
      @jnull0  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We just fill the little grooves in the bottom of the incubator, that usually keeps our humidity good. Hope this helps................J

      +jnull0 that's what we did fingers crossed. Does your automatic egg turner rotate for a few seconds at an angle and then go back flat for the remainder of the two hour cycle....doing a dry run with no eggs. Also how did you plug the water hole in the side of the incubator bottom? The manual states a humidifier goes in the water, we didn't get one with ours is this a necessity?

    • @jnull0
      @jnull0  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is how our egg turner works. We don't have a water hole in the bottom of our incubator so I am not sure if I can be any help on that one..............J

      are you able to add water to increase humidity without removing the top? if so how do you do it?

    • @jnull0
      @jnull0  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our incubator has a couple of small holes in the top, we use a small tube to add water without removing the lid................J

    +jnull0 If the chick will peep and ready for hatching;
    1) shall I leave it and let itself crack the shell?
    2) let the chick dry then separate?
    3) help the chick crack the shell?
    hope you could help by answering my questions.
    Nice vid by the way.

    • @jnull0
      @jnull0  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +BoyMaruis Yes, I can usually hear the chick peep a little when it has pipped (cracked a small hole in the shell). I usually let the chick get out of the shell on it's own, it is part of their muscle development unless it has dried out and is getting stuck or suffocated by the shell. I leave my chicks in for about 24 hours before I move to the brooder. Unless there is obvious stress while the chick is hatching I will let nature take it's course and let the chick hatch on it's own. Hope this helps.........................J
