I can go to church and not have to confess watching a peep show.Loved it and I hope one day when we move out of this town to start a small homestead of our own..gotta hurry I be getting long in the tooth...Have a blessed day !
WOW cool...They got BIG! You have some nice weather an things are getting green. We still have 2 feet of snow on the ground and 2 feet of ice on the lakes in northern wisconsin!
I agree with BuckRun11. Might as well put your broody hens to work since they are already wanting to brood and sit on eggs. If you do be sure to mark the eggs you put under her for brooding so you can pull any new eggs she or another hen lays in her nest when nature calls.
thank you...i need it this one ..i still got another hen with little ones , they are 2 weeks old , but the first batch they are almost 2 months old, and i see the size of yours they are just like mine. I built a smaller pen right next to the big flock pen...kind like an extension for them so they can chit and chat so i think it will be allright if i put them together. Beautiful hens you have..!!!!
Noisy crop rotation....When i was in Thailand, lived on a farm and the '5 Chickens' became the catchword for being rudely awakened as they paraded over to eat bugs under the bamboo bedroom floor. ;( But love 'em now.....7am = The 5 Chickens of the appocalypse.
I heard recently that chickens are "stupid " and if you put new ones in while they are sleeping at night, they will be more accepted. The older chickens wake up an assume the new ones belong there. I don't know if it's true but sounds reasonable. :)
a cornish rock hybrid (like the ones you have) are just a white rock rooster bred to a cornish hen...so really if you decided to no buy but breed your own its how you get the giant ones......thats my plan anyways...blessings
i was wondering what age to put my chickens together i have 2 that are about 5 months old and i have 5 babies that are 4 weeks old. i read that they need to be pretty close in size before putting them together and was told a good age would be about when the chicks are 15 weeks which i thought was very long. the chicks are currently in the brooder box and if i did wait the recommendation time would have to be moved outside in a separate coop ( which i dont have the room or really money for) my coop is not really that big either it is a 8x8 square fence with a old dog house as the coop and im afraid that if i dont wait long enough and the bigger chicken mess with them that they wont have that much room to hide and things could get ugly. Thank you for reading, im new at raising chickens and could use any tips you may have for me (:
I don't know if you have done it or not. But I'd go buy a couple doz. eggs from someone that has a rooster with his hens and stick them under those broody hens. Then butcher them when they get big enough.

that's a good idea to put a box in the main coop. I will do this when I add my chicks to the flock

I played this out with my flock and all of them clucked with yours. LOL

Thank you! Very informative :)
I buried the lower level of chicken wire about 8-10 inches below the ground to keep out the diggers. Hope this helps,
J

If you move them next to your compose they will have the good proteins from the insects the compose attracts.

I would keep them separate if possible until they get used to each other. Hope this helps,

When will roosters start crowing?
Are those golden Sex Links (Crowns), and Leghorns? That's what I have with some Reds and Easter Eggers.
mine jump on new ones and claw feathers off backs
Waaaaay upset = pecked the crap outta me...lol
I wanted to hear you but your laying hen was so loud it muffled what you said 😢
my chicken pecked the skin off the top of all my chicks heads wen i put them together
I mean technically it isn't cheaper to raise your own meat bird. Because feed and such. But your other reasoning is valid etc etc
