Information rights sadly are very much still a work in progress and data control will remain highly variable among social platforms until effective legislation is drafted and passed, giving survivors more rights to controlling the social media data about the deceased that persists online.
Not using social media will not solve problems created by it, perhaps especially for younger folks. Others (bullies\trolls) can create profiles in your name, using your pictures from public sources, creating a situation where it is possibly even worse. Under that scenario someone who chose not to use social media allows other people to potentially wreak even more havoc on their lives before they even notice what is happening. The whole thing requires standards be put in place at a level above individual platforms that each platform, existing or yet to be created, is required to follow.

The corporations that you post your information, photos and video to, actually own what you put up, not you. Voters need to make this an issue for governments to legislate on but since people are apathetic and lazy, I doubt it will ever happen.
They should ask that question when signing up. Do u want your account deleted if the worst happens? Its a personal preference i suppose not up to them more like the fam should have that say
