    First time watching you and we really enjoyed the video!!!! The stew looked great, lovely fire and Floyd is a star ✨ your very relaxing to watch, a lot like Wiltshire Man. Thank you 👍❤ you have helped the Wife de-stress slot.

      Thank you very much. I'm glad you find my style relaxing. Wiltshire Man and Kent Survival are both big inspirations for me. Hope my next video has a similar destressing effect 👍

    I'm glad to hear everyone's taken to Floyd the name seems to be a good fit. Very much enjoyed this chilled out camp brother. Only problem now is i need a stew and crusty bread. Looking forward to seeing more of you and Floyd. Stay safe. ✌😎🎵🎸🎶

    What a feast for Floyd. Bravo. My go to camp spot has a woodpecker that likes me to know it’s there at 6am!

      I'll be sure to treat him again when I go back! 😊 That sounds lovely - I'd love to make friends with a woodpecker! I used to regularly feed a Robin on my lunch breaks years ago - he'd fly down to the picnic table as soon as I whistled for him.

    This area is literally on my doorstep. The dogs you were worried about were gypsy dogs, you’d just passed their camp 50 yards back the same side as the dogs. Their animals are out on the roads frequently. I often hear Floyd calling, there are a few around the park and local farms, nice to see him so friendly. The bird overhead was a Buzzard, that sound is called ‘mewing’, there are often 5/6 of them, often getting mobbed by the local crows. They perch on my fence, or a fence close by.
    Liked your style of documenting your travels, you’re right, this is another world away from the big city of Cardiff.

      Hi there - thanks for your comment and view. I am glad they were not lost or homeless. I know of the entrance you're referring to, and to be honest it doesn't look like it leads to a camp - there are nice houses on the left, and always nice cars going back and fore. That said - the properties on the right - that lovely old farmhouse and barn - are in a terrible state. I cycled past it again end of last week - no doggies this time thankfully. Yes - apparently there are quite a few Peacocks and Peahens about in Margam - but Floyd seems to quite like the woods he's settled in. Probably because campers like me give him treats. He has a place to shelter in the storms - and didn't eat all that much in my last visit just gone - so he's doing okay. I might pop back in 2-3 months to check in on him. One day I'll be able to identify all the birds I hear - the Buzzards I'm not used to yet! Love the fact you get them perching on your fence! :-) Thanks for the feedback - I'll keep documenting in my own little way :-)

    so refreshing to watch a video that isnt full off freebies and reviews. they all seem to jump on a bandwagon .BUT your videos are just a bloke doing his thing . well done hope your channel does well...not bad for a boreing bloke lol . .far from boreing and very refreshing to watch ..WELL DONE

      Hi there - yes, a lot of channels do seem to end up being sponsored or promoting something. If the money's good though - and you're struggling - would you say no? 🙂 It'd have to be a pretty good deal for me to consider it though. I'd much rather do a little review of something I've used over and over, so that you have a real world result to look at. On that note - I was thinking of doing a very quick review of my Firebox XL - would people be interested?

    Great video and a lovely spot you've found there. Floyd seems so tame. I've not been out yet this year (and still haven't wild camped solo) but you are an inspiration.

    • @WildBikeCamper
      @WildBikeCamper  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you - yes; I'm lucky to find it. Others go there too - but only in the warmer months. Floyd might decide to leave if too many people spoil it. Try and use public transport to get to a nearby semi-wild camp site. The wilder - the better. But you'll be safe, and probably have some facilities to use. Do that a few times to build up your courage and get used to sleeping outdoors. I was lucky - I had a lot of green space to explore at home, which led to joining the Scouts - so I'm just reliving my youth I guess.

      @@WildBikeCamper I've found a campsite near Frome that is nice and basic and not too far to ride from Bristol. There's always a bus/train to get back (I don't drive)

    You remind me of Rob Brydon actually and so very likeable. Good that you cook fresh, one thing to consider doing is to take a foldable silver mat to lay down on like a silver reflective sun screen the type you see in a car windscreens. Floyd is doing what Pheasants do going to roost in a tree safe from Foxe's and I think the bird you heard and saw was a Sparrowhawk. I think it will be interesting to see how you progress over the months gaining experience in bush craft and gradually upgrading you kit. Can I ask who do you follow to learn tips from ? I follow The Wiltshire man. I enjoyed a very good video and thanks for sharing 👏👋

    • @WildBikeCamper
      @WildBikeCamper  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Do I sound that Welsh??! I must work on that ;-) Haha! I do like Rob - enjoy watching him and Steve Coogan do impressions. Yes - good idea. Silly thing is - I have bought them before for pets and animals shelters, and it didn't really occur to me to take one with me. Not that I don't like the idea of taking a cheap yoga mat (as
      @robertbradfield4810 suggested) but think I may well look at picking up a silver mat that I can fit into my rucksack. Yes - Kent Survival and Wiltshire Man were both - probably - the first channels I found years ago when considering filming my camps...and I've learnt lots from them both - wouldn't be on TH-cam without them.

    Get your self a black yoga mat and a Mylar back tarp. Tarp side to the ground Mylar towards your mat. It won’t compare to a good air mattress but way better than the roots & ground.

    • @WildBikeCamper
      @WildBikeCamper  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I'm definitely going to invest in a foil or mylar sheet at some point to reflect my body heat...but so far I'm finding wearing 5 layers is helping! :-)

    Ahh.. lovely relaxing camp, thank you. I finally did my first mini hike and wildcamp last weekend up on Table Mountain, Crickhowell which was freezing but amazing so can sympathise with the cold! Lovely to see Floyd. Have you ever thought of joining a medieval re-enactment group? Would be a bit of fun.

    • @WildBikeCamper
      @WildBikeCamper  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It was one of the most relaxing I've ever had actually - after the journey was over! Very well done to you for your first wild camp - especially all the way up Table Mountain (I know it!). I might look at doing some non-bike camps in the future as I do miss hiking. Haha! Yes - I did in the past consider joining a medieval re-enactment group - but some people were a bit too serious about it all for me. Think Jim Carrey in 'The Cable Guy'.

    • @WildBikeCamper
      @WildBikeCamper  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! :-) Yes - I've got various yoga mats - but they're not easy to transport with everything else on the bike and cause issues on the train! I'm okay with just roughing it...my tent is big enough to find a spot where I can get comfy usually.

    • @WildBikeCamper
      @WildBikeCamper  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Absolutely not native to the UK, and well done for knowing this! 🙂 They are not all from Asia - many are born here....but the fact Floyd hangs around the fire so long is because Peacocks are used to warm conditions. I'm glad I could provide them.

      Floyd has access to *lots* of fresh water - the woods are surrounded by streams - and it has rained almost non-stop for 3 months!
