  • Liftmaster Model 3585 upper travel limit was not responding to adjustment screw. The door kept banging into the stop screw when openned. Found a broken wire on the adjustment control. When I spliced the wire together, the adjustment started working.

DIY with Dave, Thank you! Helped perfectly. My opener was built in 2004. It appears that that wire and the others get brittle over time and the gray wire that breaks travels with that assembly. I will be adding a length of wire to mine as to hopefully reduce the motion of wire and extending it's life.

ya .... I'm going replace all the wires when summer comes around next year. Mine just gave out before winter came. 😆

Thank you! I had exactly the same issue. I watched your video before removing the cover. Sure enough, the grey wire was broken. Easy fix!

Found the same wire snapped in my opener after it stopped responding to the limit adjustments. Thanks for this video!

You just saved me $$$. I had the same issue with the broken wire. Defective design.

Thanks! One of my adjustment screws had slipped out of position, so not exactly the same issue but still really helpful to see yours first.

That was exactly the problem I had. Thanks so much.

Same problem for me too, I wish Liftmaster would watch this video and improve their product. In my case, the machine pulled the door all the way up and out of the tracks, a much more difficult thing to put back together by myself.

Thanks for you video, my opener had the same issue. How come the wire was broken inside the box?

I had not ever had the cover off, so it was nothing that I did. Perhaps it was a manufacturing defect.

I just suffered this malady , this video took me straight to the issue thank you ! I spliced the ends where the wire broke and just added a small marret, thought of soldering the wires but too much hassle . Inspecting the wire it seems to have multiple fracture points , the plastic casing is faulty perhaps , now that I know the issue it's great foresight ! Thanks for sharing !

@@bobco5 ya I agree that the insulation wire could be faulty but it's awfully suspicious that the wire itself also separates. But god bless Dave for doing the video !!
