For some of external drive systems you have to go into the command prompt and clean the disk before disk management will allow you to format disk. And that part can be confusing too. I did it for my glyph drive, and those little extra windows finally did pop up under disk management/partitions.

How much do you know about formatting (or, reformat) HDDs for use as a C drive, if there are files on it. The files can be copied then deleted. The "Clean" command has to be used before being reformatted? I have 2 HDDs, 1 with an OS (Win 7) & the other a FAT32 / NTFS. They came out of a practically dead laptop, & want to use one to get a different laptop running again. Thanks

So I'm not clear on one thing. I will buy a new SSD. Do I keep my original HDD in the computer and attach the new SSD to the USB and do this procedure or do I take out my old HDD and install the SSD and do this procedure?

This answers like zero of the questions someone would really have. Like how big can your disk be with MBR? 2 TB? What's the smallest HD you can even buy now? Thumb drives are pre-iniitialized, so who is this even for? Do you not want to Full (not Quick) format to fix bad sectors? "Whatever it does when it's formatting" You say? Do you not know? Why are you making videos mister "windows guru" Jeez.

If the drive already has data on it you WILL lose data if you follow these steps ... better to get some data recovery software, such as this, to see if you can recover something from the drive: www.r-studio.com/ ... I have used this to successfully recover client data a few times ...

First thing to check is the cables ... the drive needs to be hooked up to power and also a data cable to the motherboard. Next, enter BIOS and make sure that the drive is detected and activated in BIOS. For some systems you may need to update your BIOS to the latest version before the drive will detect.
