A person asked me "why sad people listen sad music?" personally I listen "sad" music because it is one of the last things in which I find connection/emotions instead of greyness and feel understood... Is there anyone else in that case?
Absolutely, yes. I relate to this particular song because "I feel numb in this kingdom" IRL. It's a soundtrack for me. Ironically, listening to a song about feeling numb while numb is a great way to actually feel something. When I'm sad and I listen to sad music, it makes me feel better. For example, all of my adult life, I've listened to Fiona Apple during breakups. She always makes me feel so much better. If I'm depressed, I listen to Radiohead. The feeling of being understood is an extremely powerful thing. Add that to the power of music and you have a nuclear bomb.
I like it even when sad because I like to feel the emotion. Since I'm, call it...very in touch with how I feel, I connect to the music really well. I think about everything that's said in the lyrics and can basically feel the music.
I started listening to Daughter back in 2013 and I have never turned back. I've heard them live last year and now their music is featured in one of my favourite games.
They never really had a strong sense in how they named their band Daughter. But for me, it makes anyone who's been very fond of them as if an unspeakable adoration for their mothers, whom you don't get the chance to spend time with. You remember her by the beautiful colour of her dress, or just the remains of her perfume, her voice inside your head. The kind of painful joy
Listening to the music, and watching the video, I feel like the woman (the voice), is broken by what she's lost. What she's lost was due to others. She feels numb because of everything that's happened to her, and by what she's planning to do, in retaliation to what she's lost. "Take the worst situations, make a worst situation" seems to imply that something bad happened and that she's going to make it worse. The "Feeling numb in this kingdom" part could refer to how she's feeling after her trauma and during her "mission" for revenge. But when you look at her closer, she's not as numb as she says. When she looks at the men she's killing, you can see the sheen of unshed tears in her eyes. And before that, when she's lighting her cigarette, you can see her eyes watering with unshed tears, like she's trying not to cry. I feel like these men did something horrible to her, whether it was rape, or they killed someone close to her. They did something terrible to her and she's getting her revenge. The second guy she kills, he seems to recognize her as if he knows her somehow. After killing him, she is walking away and definitely doesn't look numb. She looks affected by what she's done. The "You better make me better" line I think is aimed at what she's doing, which is enacting her revenge on those that wronged her. When she's done, she goes back to her room and looks at herself in the mirror. She undresses from her red outfit and changes into something more plain, and drinks something (probably alcohol) while looking at herself again. Then she turns the light out and tosses something on the bed, which I think was her keys, and leaves the room before entering the elevator and going down. The key, I believe, symbolizes that she can't and won't come back from this and the elevator going down is her descent into hell after enacting her revenge, a revenge that didn't seem to make her happy in the end. This is just my take on the video and lyrics. After watching the video many times, and listening to the song many more times, I refuse to believe that the woman in red is just some heartless psychopath. Daughter's music and videos always offer layers to the story. It's never anything so shallow or simple.

***** That depends on your budget. B&W 685S2 are good allround speakers for the price imo (entry level). You'd better save up some money for an amp with DAC on board or external DAC (some models by Marantz, NAD,....) in stead of a soundcard in my opinion.Headphones ... I've had the Nad Viso HP50 which are pretty good, recently updated by Oppo PM3. Off course, you have to judge with your own ears. Each brand has its own sound signature more or less: analytical, slightly warm/coloured, bass heavy,... Take your time before you decide and check what you like the most (it's not always easy to audition everything, but I'd suggest to test some stuff before you buy). You don't have to be a billionaire to get a good audio setup ;)
Almost a year later, I'm only realizing how incredible this video really is. Daughter is one of the most beautiful things I've discovered in a long time. There's a difference between art and music. Music is everything you hear on the radio and art is something like this. i currently read a book about "die Gewalt des Heiligen" which is about how sacred things (gods, saviors) are related to violence. Do you know, why the woman in this video is disappointed (numbed, numbness) from those situations /dates ? What exactly is wrong with the guys ? We can see that they are freezing or bursting out when they see her, as if she is some kind of medusa or gorgon. There are much complex relations that are leading this woman to thos disappointments that are not exactly seen in the video. We can get a glimpse of the character of this woman, as we see her burning the paper, she has received from the jesus-apostels with disgust. She can not believe in them and in saviors in general. She wears her irony as a shield and is detached from the people around her, as if she does not count herself as a human. I really love this song, as i always wanted to be in contact with such a woman, but i have disappointed her exactly like the guys in this video.

Found this song and band and fell in love with them. Played the video game "Life is Strange" and fell in love with that. Found out there was a sequel/ prequel to "Life is Strange" and flipped. Found out Daughter did the score for "Life is Strange: Before the Storm" and flipped a few more times. This song is the one chosen for the trailer for that game and, as an avid fan of Daughter, I HIGHLY recommend checking out the soundtrack for "Life is Strange: Before the Storm." Even if you aren't a gamer, you'll love it. Swear.
I found Daughter way before LiS was a thing, and I will tell you right now, I don't care how someone finds Daughter, I'm just glad that they did because this band is phenomenal and always strikes me hard in the chest. i think it is wrong to look at the protagonist woman in this music-video/story as if she is a villain or evil person. She is not. She is following her own codex, which helps her to be safe from more pain. It is the way she has learned to safeguard herself from any more hurt. In fact she has just carefully probed the guys in the video if they are ready for her. She seems to be careful not to advance into meaningless connections with people, to avoid hurt to herself or others. We should look at her principals, at her codex, and not try to give her instantly a label like borderline, narcissist. Also: borderliners and narcissists are victims and survivers of trauma. Listening to the music, and watching the video, I feel like the woman (the voice), is broken by what she's lost. What she's lost was due to others. She feels numb because of everything that's happened to her, and by what she's planning to do, in retaliation to what she's lost. "Take the worst situations, make a worst situation" seems to imply that something bad happened and that she's going to make it worse. The "Feeling numb in this kingdom" part could refer to how she's feeling after her trauma and during her "mission" for revenge. But when you look at her closer, she's not as numb as she says. When she looks at the men she's killing, you can see the sheen of unshed tears in her eyes. And before that, when she's lighting her cigarette, you can see her eyes watering with unshed tears, like she's trying not to cry. I feel like these men did something horrible to her, whether it was rape, or they killed someone close to her. They did something terrible to her and she's getting her revenge. The second guy she kills, he seems to recognize her as if he knows her somehow. After killing him, she is walking away and definitely doesn't look numb. She looks affected by what she's done. The "You better make me better" line I think is aimed at what she's doing, which is enacting her revenge on those that wronged her. When she's done, she goes back to her room and looks at herself in the mirror. She undresses from her red outfit and changes into something more plain, and drinks something (probably alcohol) while looking at herself again. Then she turns the light out and tosses something on the bed, which I think was her keys, and leaves the room before entering the elevator and going down. The key, I believe, symbolizes that she can't and won't come back from this and the elevator going down is her descent into hell after enacting her revenge, a revenge that didn't seem to make her happy in the end. This is just my take on the video and lyrics. After watching the video many times, and listening to the song many more times, I refuse to believe that the woman in red is just some heartless psychopath. Daughter's music and videos always offer layers to the story. It's never anything so shallow or simple.

***** That depends on your budget. B&W 685S2 are good allround speakers for the price imo (entry level). You'd better save up some money for an amp with DAC on board or external DAC (some models by Marantz, NAD,....) in stead of a soundcard in my opinion.Headphones ... I've had the Nad Viso HP50 which are pretty good, recently updated by Oppo PM3. Off course, you have to judge with your own ears. Each brand has its own sound signature more or less: analytical, slightly warm/coloured, bass heavy,... Take your time before you decide and check what you like the most (it's not always easy to audition everything, but I'd suggest to test some stuff before you buy). You don't have to be a billionaire to get a good audio setup ;)

i currently read a book about "die Gewalt des Heiligen" which is about how sacred things (gods, saviors) are related to violence.
Do you know, why the woman in this video is disappointed (numbed, numbness) from those situations /dates ?
What exactly is wrong with the guys ? We can see that they are freezing or bursting out when they see her, as if she is some kind of medusa or gorgon.
There are much complex relations that are leading this woman to thos disappointments that are not exactly seen in the video.
We can get a glimpse of the character of this woman, as we see her burning the paper, she has received from the jesus-apostels with disgust. She can not believe in them and in saviors in general. She wears her irony as a shield and is detached from the people around her, as if she does not count herself as a human. I really love this song, as i always wanted to be in contact with such a woman, but i have disappointed her exactly like the guys in this video.
Then write something complex, don't add one of those comments without some profound meaning you're looking for

I found Daughter way before LiS was a thing, and I will tell you right now, I don't care how someone finds Daughter, I'm just glad that they did because this band is phenomenal and always strikes me hard in the chest. I love this music and if a game helps bring in more people to love and support Daughter, then I am grateful.

If anybody is wondering about the meaning of the lyrics,song is about the life through the eyes of a narcissist.Narcissist are people who have no emotions for other people.They feel no love,empathy,remorse,regret.Because of their emptyness they take the worst situation(a childhood trauma or anything that made them who they are)and they make a worse situation for other people because actually they turn into energy and emotion vampires.They want to control others and suck their lives as the woman is doing at videoclip with these two men.Many times they try to find ways to feel something(to feel better)so sometimes they are doing this through alcohol,drugs or sex,usually one nights sex with no emotion and thats what the lyrics are talking about.

i think it is wrong to look at the protagonist woman in this music-video/story as if she is a villain or evil person. She is not. She is following her own codex, which helps her to be safe from more pain. It is the way she has learned to safeguard herself from any more hurt. In fact she has just carefully probed the guys in the video if they are ready for her. She seems to be careful not to advance into meaningless connections with people, to avoid hurt to herself or others. We should look at her principals, at her codex, and not try to give her instantly a label like borderline, narcissist. Also: borderliners and narcissists are victims and survivers of trauma. We should not look at them like they are villains.

- if you watch the face of the woman in the video very close, you will recognize that she is disappointed in the men she had small hopes for (she has no hope at all, so even small hopes are much)
- the woman in the video has a problem with dignity. She must preserve her dignity at all costs, because a relationship with the wrong guy will expect from her to adapt herself to the guy, because the guy will never adapt to her.... that way she will be captured by relationship (housewife, trophy,...)
- the guys in the video have own problems. As soon as they see here, they are unable to interact with her, because they are lovestruck or overwhelmed by her gaze. It's a gaze of medusa, which turns people to stone.
- the video woman did try to burn the homeless man, but she does this because she is close to destroying herself also. She has no regards for others because she has little to no regards for herself.
- it is important that there is a coin which is falling on the pictures of the cards of the guys... this symbolizes that no faith is involved. She is detached and the guys must fully invest the faith in the relationship because she has none. But as soon as they invest faith, they are doomed, because faith in her is something she has not for herself.
- In the video we don't see any scene that show us that the Woman has any involvement with the boys getting doomed. The boys are just that way in regards to her that they are automatically doomed because they are lovestruck by her.
