  • Well I picked up this fan over the summer and finally got around to going through it recently, so of course I had to take y'all along for the ride! :) This is actually a fan I have been after for a long time so I'm very happy to finally own it and now that it's been cleaned and serviced I can put it to use as well! Hope you all enjoy!

    That screw you mentioned around the 8:00 mark is to eliminate the end play of the motor shaft so the rotor stays centered within the field and keeps the gear centered on the motor shaft. If the shaft is allowed to move in and out there will be excessive wear and there will be excessive noise as the motor shaft bangs in and out as the fan changes direction. The "flat" side of the cord would be the neutral side of the line if the plug was polarized. I wonder if the"kid" cut that wire on purpose? You can "blame" 5tractorguy for me subscribing. You both have excellent choice in music!

    • @colin_5839
      @colin_5839  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know, I have actually seen that before! My little ILG fan has that design! However, I'm not entirely sure that's the case with this one, because the screw in question was positioned much lower than the motor's shaft. Also in these fans keeping the rotor centered and reducing the slop is handled by fiber thrust washers that sit on the shaft on either end of the rotor. I will definitely take a look at it next time I have this thing apart in the future though, you have me very curious now lol. I was wondering if that was the case with the cord, but then I remembered that the plug wasn't polarized so I was a bit confused lol. I guess they were starting to polarize some things at this time, but hadn't fully switched over just yet. Well allegedly he attempted to fix this fan, but that also wouldn't have been the first time he has lied to me... I guess the world may never know lol. Either way it wasn't a big deal to repair! HAHA! Thanks for the sub! I really appreciate it! Actually you can "blame" Jake for my music taste! Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for Watching Paul!

      @@colin_5839 I re-watched the video and you are correct, that screw probably holds that black gear/shaft in as you said. I don't know when polarized plugs came into being but I bought a 100' roll of lamp cord 35+ years ago and it has similar markings. I have also seen wire "polarized" by using plain copper in one half and tinned copper in the other. There are other uses for having lamp cord marked in these ways, speaker wire comes to mind.

    Fan looks amazing the color looks good, like the older blade design, by the sound of the blades on high I think yours is faster than the Panasonic f-1209A I have as it runs a bit slower

    Thanks for posting. These are great fans. I’m curious about how you removed the oskullashunz engagement plunger. I have the 16” version that’s also held in with a screw but I haven’t figured out how it comes out. Turning the screw seems to just turn the gear, and the fan head with it. I’m afraid to put much torque into turning it because I don’t want to break anything. If you have any pointers I’d appreciate it. Thanks!

      My pleasure! They really are amazing fans! I actually had that exact issue so what I did was grabbed my impact driver and just very carefully pulled the trigger once or 2x real quick to shock it loose. After that it came right out. Only thing you have to be careful about is whether it's reverse thread or not, I want to say that it is, but I don't completely remember. the plunger on mine was made of metal so you really cant break much to be honest, but I'd still be careful with it. Good luck! Thanks for Watching!

    • @MostlyFans
      @MostlyFans 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You’re probably right about it being reverse thread. I hadn’t thought of that but I’ve seen it before. The thing I’ve noticed about these older models is that the bearings seem to retain the factory lubricant really well. It’s pretty amazing actually. I intend to make a “2021 thrift finds” video tonight or tomorrow that will have the 16” Galaxy fan. I found it by the back door of a local thrift store. The lady said she wasn’t going to sell it because the buttons didn’t stay down. It was about to go in the dumpster. She sold it to me for $2. Listen to your gut when the thrift store is calling. Lol
