I was getting super frustrated with not being able to pull that battery out and not finding any screws missed. So, I watched this and finished the job in 10 minutes. Your video saved me tons of time and money. Thank you!
I have this exact car in my story was the exact same as yours, the O’Reilly’s conversation and everything! Now I am highly considering getting rid of this vehicle just because of how hard it is to get the battery out lol
Thx for the help. As much of a pain as this is, it's a lot better than the previous version of the Escape. Now THAT was a PITA. Tip: You don't have to remove both nuts on the mounting bracket. Just loosen the one on the right, and the bracket will rotate out of the way. 😉
thanks for your video, I was just about ready to call for help or take it in for service but after watching the video I had it out and back in . Thanks
Check to see if you need to code the new battery to the car. If it has a battery monitor system it’s essential to code it or you risk damaging the new battery by overcharging
On my 2015 Escape, I didn't know that either but found out when the new battery wouldn't play the radio longer than 5 minutes. Resetting it is very weird but it worked.
Hi, I have a 2020 Escape Hybrid, the battery for that is in the trunk. It it a lot smaller then the normal one but just as excpensive, it has special beather tubes on it. The back still opened but the car would not go into ready mode with the bad battery. It is easy to change once you ge to it.
As was mine. A couple months ago, my 2020 2 liter Escape battery wouldn't keep a charge to just listen to the radio for over 5 minutes. Costco wanted $10 dollars LESS than my Ford dealer for the SAME battery and that covered installation and reset. $207. out the door. Auto parts store is the worst place to buy a battery. Had a 2015 Escape and THAT battery was a royal pain under the cowl. I did do the reset on that one.
Just imagine in a couple of years and a lot of engine heat cycles that air cleaner box will get brittle so when you yank on it to remove it it comes apart!
You're probably right. Luckily it wasn't as tight as some others I've had to remove but the tabs were cut almost in half to relieve pressure. That's probably where it will break
And if you do, you end up with what happens at 11:21. That cable, which you had no idea what it's for should be connected BEFORE you connect the negative cable. You shorted it against the hold down bolt. (It's part of the auto start-stop system)
If you buy an American domestic manufactured car, what else can you expect but trouble? And as for the Ecoboost engine? It's not called the Ecoboom for nothing.
I suspect the other reason for dealer service as you found out is they add a temporary memory card to the OBD 2 that keeps settings like radio buttons, perhaps clock, power seat and other computer controlled settings static. Not that any other car part retailer could not do the same but have seen some have that capability and others don't. Not that resetting these is difficult but it is annoying
You have to re-set the battery management system when you change out the battery on these 'smart' cars. Re-set the bms. Ignition on (no clutch if not auto, don't start the car), main beam x 5, brake peddle x 3, battery light in the dash will flash, turn off the ignition when it stops flashing. The car now knows the battery is new.
That is a much easier battery change than on a 2017 Escape. My 2021 Escape Hybrid has the battery in the back under the spare tire, that one is really easy and the battery lasts longer due to not being subjected to under hood heat.
Or corvettes with the battery behind the seat? Engineers are amazing haha This one was sadly a blatant attempt for Ford to make money off of people's inability to turn a wrench.
One part of the system is a battery life/charging monitor that the dealer resets to "new battery." Sure, your new battery works but the life might be reduced because the BMS regulates charging current (something useful for an AGM-style battery) based on age. Some models have "manual" ways to reset it, but a scan tool with a battery function could too. Yet another reason to not like modern cars, right? ;-)
I wear safety glasses when working around batteries. I had a motorcycle battery blow up on me once. Had to jump in the shower and quickly rinse my eyes.
Now I will tell you a battery that is impossible or over complex to change. 1990 Chrysler Sebring you must remove the driver's tire, the wheel well and several other parts just to get to the battery.
I think I would have done some surgery on the battery trap that would allow the battery to come out without taking out the air filter bottom box. I can see where this will piss off a LOT of people that bought this FORD product. No more auto company bailouts!
This isn't new. This started around the year 2000. Any time a part of the car needs to be removed to change the battery a parts store won't touch it because of liability.
@BakersDIYLifestyle You can't really blame the parts stores, and even auto manufacturers are just getting more efficient with packaging. What would be nice is if they moved to a more durable battery technology that would at least only require replacement every 10 years or so. I have to say, you're replacing a 4-5? year old AGM battery? Those are supposed to last 7+. People should avoid running their batteries down, get the most time out of them possible, and it makes this less of a big deal
@adamlesandrini312 Shoot battery technology is a joke too. Why make it last longer when you can keep forcing people to buy junk? There is nothing better about the package they offer either. Only ways to make more money on the back side of selling a new car
@@BakersDIYLifestyle packaging is fitting things into the smallest space possible. I would rather have to remove the airbox than how some batteries are. Probably the easiest modern battery placement is the trunk. I'm not sure why this isn't more common.
@adamlesandrini312 All they had to do was leave the tabs off and the battery could be removed without moving the air box. This isn't a packaging problem.
I've seen the comments, get a professional to do it and pay the $90 extra. It was a nice video to see the obstacles in your way for replacing the battery, but you missed a couple things like what was in the comments.
@@BakersDIYLifestyle it is not a bad design, I would rather have a battery attach that way, then the old fashioned metal bracket that rusts the battery jumps all over the car.

Watched your video today. Changed my gf’s battery today. Great video.
Awesome glad it helped!
I'm with you on new cars. I have a 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 3.0 diesel. Jeep wanted $300 for a thermostat! Absolutely insane!
Every company is out to rip you off now. Absolutely ridiculous!
I spent my last cent on the batterie, you video saved me, THANK YOU so much. Since it's another week till I get paid.

I hate new cars!
Did you have to do a battery reset? When i changed mine i had to do a battery reset so the alternator could relearn the new battery
I've never heard of that. Wouldn't surprise me with today's technology though

I honestly have no idea on the hybrid. That sounds like a pain too though!
5:55 it just happened to me, I was following your instructions. I had fold down the seat in the back to get the new out
Oh no! Haha don't you love electronics?!
I just did the same
3/36000 mile warranty on the battery as well unless you have had more than that.Just had one replaced 3 days before the 3/36 warranty expired for free
Good call on that! Sadly this one is way out of warranty

You don't connect the ground (negative) cable until you have connected all the cables to the positive cable.
That's a better way to do it!

Eh who wants that anyway???
@@BakersDIYLifestyle I'd have to agree with you on that, but you don't want to get rid of it that way. Might also zap something you need.
Be glad you don't have a 2017 escape. Unbelievable what has to be removed to replace the battery.
If you buy an American domestic manufactured car, what else can you expect but trouble? And as for the Ecoboost engine? It's not called the Ecoboom for nothing.

Yeah but those functions don't have anything to do with the battery removal itself
Hi guy, could you please share the battery caracteristics? I need to replace mine
I just use what O'Reilly tells me to
All i see is potential for an aftermarket company to make a battery tray with covenantal straps to make this easy in the future

It should just be 2 nuts and 2 terminals. All of this crazy stuff they come up with now is useless.
Thanks so much I gave you a like and a subscribe.
Thank you for this I was like how do you get this out I can’t believe ford for this
Anything possible to make more money!
While a pia. Still not that difficult. How about German cars with the battery under the driver’s seat

You got that right!
Then you have to register the battery so the system knows there is a new battery.
I definitely didn't do that. You would think going from 10 volts to 12 would be sufficient
How do we do that? Am I going to have to take it to a dealership?
This is why Escapes are off my purchase list. They should be off yours too...
Most modern cars are off my list. I'll take my grandpa's 46 Chevy Truck all day long!

You're welcome!
If the car has a😅rear seat just pull it forward crawl in and pull emergency release
To bad the rear seat doesn't move!
