Fredrick Blackwell check your wiper blades when you’re done. If you don’t put them on in the right position, the timing will be off. Easy to fix, but you definitely don’t want to find out they’re out of position in the middle of a rain storm, while driving down the freeway.

Just did a 2013. Way easier doing it this way. Remove wiper arms,4 screws and about 8 clips. You can then get right at the battery terminals. Warning about wiper arms. Before installing, turn wipers on with out arms and then let them park. Reinstall arms, but don't over tighten nuts. They are made to release in case wipers get frozen to windshield in the winter. Worst design wiper system i've ever seen.

Need more attention to address putting back on windshield wipers as it's not as simple as "just doing it all in reverse". They don't line up just right and unless you note exactly the position on the spindle that it was originally set on, it's nearly impossible to find the exact position getting it back on. They overshot my windshield and after multiple attempts to get them set in the correct position and trying them out, they stripped the spindles. The spindle groves are so fine and not very deep and the metal is soft that they just smooth out and not grab anymore. There should have been more attention to the detail of taking them off and putting them back on to better explain this before someone figures it out the hard way. Now I have to replace both wiper arms and wiper motors, as I can't just replace the spindles. I hate this car and will never buy another Ford again. I'm so sick of car makers making cars that you can't do the simplest of things like spark plugs and batteries on a car without having to tear the engines apart to get to stuff. It's ridiculous! They force you to go to dealerships that rip you off and make you wait for hours just to change a fricken battery out. They made cars much better back in the 80's! You could take care of the easy stuff like spark plug, batteries, oil changes, etc and they got more miles a gal than they do today. They are regressing instead of making stuff better and easier.

Removing the windshield wipers to replace the battery !!!??? - you can stop right there. This is NOT the right way to change an Escape battery. Most videos show this same ridiculous method. Use a straight hand driver with a 8mm socket to get at the screw between the air cleaner enclosure and the battery. It is super easy. Use the right tool for the job. The 'thing' on the negative terminal is part of the computer system.

Thanks for the detailed video instructions. A couple of added tips. First, be sure to mark the position of the wiper blades and put them back in the exact same position. After I was done with the battery, it took almost as much time to get the wipers to work properly, as I had not paid enough attention to where they were when I removed them. If they're not put back in the right position, they either won't function properly or won't work at all. Second, a larger battery than the anemic OEM one can be fitted. All it takes is to remove the spacers at the bottom inside the battery box once you have the old battery out. The box (without the spacers) will allow you to fit a 94R/H7 . Because it's a popular size, you can get an AGM instead of a wet cell (I used an O'Reilly Super Start Platinum, 800 CCA). It's a bit of a tight fit but the OEM battery is under 600 CCA. To get in the bigger 94R/H7, you will need to remove the air filter cover and loosen the red positive lead (the side away from the connector to the battery) and pop the plastic tabs at the front of the battery box to move the top front of the battery box about 1/2 inch towards the front of the car. This is just so you have room to slide the bigger battery into the box. Once it's in, it fits perfectly. My car is a 2014 Escape Titanium with the 2.5l engine. While you have the air box open, consider replacing the air filter. Tools needed: 8mm socket, 10mm socket and deep socket, 15mm socket, ratchet with 6 in. extension, 10 and 13mm open end (or box or combination) wrenches, T25 torx bit, small screwdriver to pry the clips loose, larger screwdriver to pry out the spacers if you are upsizing the battery, some tape to mark the wiper positions.

I had the exact same issue putting my wiper blades back on and first overshot the windshield, then they just wouldn't move up at all and acted like they were hitting each other but they weren't, they just wouldn't rotate over the windshield. After several attempts the reposition them, I noticed the spindle started stripping. The metal on these spindle metal is so soft and the splines are so fine and shallow, that there is no room for error or they are ruined. Could you please tell me what exactly you did to get your wipers positioned to work right? I searched online for more videos and only 1 showed them putting everything back on after changing the battery and they pointed out some markings on the windshield that you are supposed to line the ends of the blades up too but I don't see any such markings on my windshield.

Not completely the correct way. ALWAYS detach the negative cable from the battery first. That way if your wrench hits a conductor when removing the positive cable you won't short out and probably shock yourself. Reverse when reattaching the cables...positive then negative.
