8:27 this is extremely true. My wife argued to be let our baby be born naturally. It’s not uncommon for hospitals to push for C section as it is faster and (coincidently makes the most profits to the hospital) and to make it worse, women have to stay longer there. All at the expense of “move it quick. But she persisted and we have a healthy baby boy who NEVER gets sick! It’s insane. I have had the flu and he doesn’t. But again breast feeding is another factor for his strong health. He gets all the antibodies of his mom even before he can fight anything and his body advances much faster than a formula fed baby. Everyone thinks he’s 3-4 years when he’s only 1
@D. F. I'm happy for you :). My mother gave birth to her three sons all at home. All of us have healthy strong immune systems. Her sister on the other hand gave birth to three children all in hospitals (I think c-section), and all of them have some sort of difficulties since birth. Of course, this could be complete coincidence, but I doubt it.
>I have had the flu and he doesn’t. I'm not questioning your decision and I agree with the rest of your post, but please understand that this is anecdotal argument and you can't really bring it up as evidence. "Sceptic" does not mean "ignore experts, rely on gut feeling and anecdotes".
This is a great example of how to think for yourself. It doesn't mean EVERYTHING is a lie, but it does mean that what you've been told and what you never question might not be totally true.
There are two quotes that go well together: "choose a person who has achieved what you want and model your own habits and values after theirs." and "look at what 90% of people do and do the opposite." Most people are unsuccessful, unhappy and unhealthy, and yet we tend to take advise from our unhealthy, unsuccessful and unhappy peers while vilifying those who have achieved what we want and should be taken as role models. It may well be true that the system is rigged against us, but we knew that already for many decades, and yet we still comply with everything the system imposes onto us. Instead of letting the system rule us, we should use the system for our own benefit. Do the opposite of what the drug industry and food industry want us to, do proper research outside of school, expect everything anybody ever tells you to be propaganda aimed to manipulate you, do your own research but keep in mind that all research results are written not by the scientists but by the people funding the research.....and form your own opinions.
Funny, i recently finished college. I got all the best grades that i could, yet i feel like i learn nothing about it. I got much more by myself, testing, searching, practicing, reading and consulting. I feel like i wasted my life.
My life goal is to make the education system more useful. it has an immense (positive) impact potentially, there are minor changes to be made and it will be less useless.
Great video, I just have a problem with the clip at 9:05. Don't let basic chemistry scare you into depriving you or your loved ones of medication they might actually need. While the formulas for meth and adderall LOOK very similar, so are the formulas for CO2(harmless) and CO(deadly), or NaF(toothpaste) and NaCl(table salt). All I'm saying, basing the supposed similarity of meth and adderall (which I'm NOT disputing) on a chart in a TH-cam video contradicts the overall message of this video, which is to educate yourself.
Jacob Hall Pharmaceutically they are very similar. However theres nothing inherently evil or bad about methamphetamine, its just easy to make and homemade ship has bad chemicals and stuff. Plus drug addicts aren't taking medical doses of methamphetamine they're taking a fuck ton not some 20 mg continuous release dose like medical adderal.
Jacob Hall Meth and adderall just so happens to share similar chemical effects on the brain and the body as well... Ask a meth head, he will confirm that meth makes him more productive and capable of better concentration ;) At least until his mind becomes dependant on the effects. Then he'll tell you he just needs more meth to get "right" again. Look into how individuals with adhd continuously get their dosage upped, or they get switched to a stronger form of amphetamine. There is no such thing as adhd, classrooms are simply boring as fuck.
The point here is... many people confuse "knowledge" and "understanding"... just because you know about something, doesn't mean you understand it... "What I've Learned" is attempting to awaken that...
when i was a kid my mom believed heavily in doctors and their recommendations. it was terrible, went to many therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, and other doctors. i was put on the plethora of adhd meds and depression meds. it all made me feel like garbage and after awhile i told my mom i dont want it anymore and she let me stop. i will not put my children through that shit. yes my son cant focus on school work, you know why? because hes a fucking child that wants to play and not do boring school work. its not a fucking disorder, its childhood.
Preach. I don’t know when regular kid distractability became adhd. You lock a kid in a building for six hours of course they’ll be bored and disinterested in dry presentations.
Maybe homeschool could be the answer? It only takes maybe 30 minutes to 2 hours in a day for elementary grades so kids have lots of time to play and explore their world. Plus lessons can be broken into smaller 5-30 minute segments throughout the day. It's worked great for my active boys!
@@just1desi It didn't, actual adhd or add is a legitimate disorder affecting personal relation ships and adulthood, that isn't just limited to "kid thinks homework is boring". You all sound like antivaxxers.

I'm diagnosed too, respond poorly to all but one brand of ritalin and I suspect I might have ocd as well (wich completely fucks with ritalin) as ive shown traits since childhood. Disregarding whatever a doctor says because you think adhd is just "I'm bored at school" is flat is as irresponsible as not treating a physical illness.
likira111 our comments were regarding the over prescribing of drugs for overzealous diagnoses of things that are actually not a condition but instead are a regular part of childhood. Thing is: when people start educating themselves many tend to derail or fall into faulty mindsets along the way. Talking about the ”system” this way causes a lot of worries for people against any system at all, and while I wholeheartedly agree that there are many systems who fail us, there’s also the ones who don’t. Skepticism is necessary but everyone and everything isn’t working against you.
Everything and Everyone might as well be as those who run society don't have your interest as an ordinary person in mind when making important decisions.

They are very tricky with their words. Saying " I 'believe' nicotine is not addictive" is different than saying "Nicotine is not addictive". The former is a personal belief, the latter is stating a fact.
I’m a chemistry major, and I can tell you that medical research and most scientific research IS guided by large institutional interest. After WW2 rich investors noticed that new discover in science (electricity, penicillin, nuclear power) could turn a profit, and decided to fund public education especially in areas of math and science. However, they funded the schools and universities with the full intention of making scientist who would work for the interest of large cooperations. This why there were many “scientific studies” in the early 1950’s that showed putting lead in every day products, such as makeup, was absolutely harmless. Now with the invention of synthetic materials, such as plastics and synthetic drugs, companies push scientists to release poorly done studies that state there is “no evidence” of the harm of these products. Of course there is “no evidence”, NO ONE IS FUNDING THE RESEARCH TO CHECK IF IT IS SAFE TO USE OR NOT! Scientists have their hands tied, and they know it, and the large companies know this.

There's a balance to be struck here. Just like corporations are willing to shovel false science into the waiting mouths of consumers, plenty of people - particularly on the internet, but also in so-called 'alternative therapy' industries are willing to do the same to validate their own beliefs and make money for themselves. Skepticism - at all times - is essential.
The video doesn’t suggest that you get into “alternative therapy”. You’re reiterating the whole videos point, question what you’re being told by people trying to sell you things.
Exactly. I’m currently disabled because of the medication that my “trusted” doctors prescribed to me for acid reflux and gastroparesis. Now I can’t eat food without being sick. Fantastic system we’re living in. Keep up the great work!

Very glad I didn't grow up in an awful place like America, no "medications" as a child. My mum cooked me reasonably healthy food, and only went to a doctor when I really needed one. Still, the food industry is what really gets me. I've had to completely flip around how I shop and eat to only whole vegetables and meats with no carbs or dairy.
I've been telling my friends and family to think for themselves and educate their selves ever since I was little because I always knew not everything is what they tell you or what it seems like. So, just have women squat when giving birth? Then they won't need an epidural anymore? And the baby can fit through and won't require a C-section, getting extra bacteria on itself as it slides through vagina, helping it's stomach biome? Allowing it to digest more food and help concentrate and not need ADHD medicine? It's all so simple!.... If women would only squat when they gave birth. Using the same logic, you could take C-Section babies and rub their bodies on a woman's vagina to fix ADHD? Also using that logic, you could do that today... find your mother if you're a C-Section baby, and rub yourself on her exposed vagina, we can still fix this! Do your part!
The one thing I wish I was better at, at 15 would be to know when to take an older persons advice, because they do have experience and knowledge, and when not to listen to adults, because they are full of fear and anxiety and they subconsciously want to pass it off. Do you have a background in chemistry? I had to study biochemistry for years and I will tell you that compounds with slslight variations in molecular structure can and do indeed act very similarly to one another. Caffeine is a great example of a compound that has slight variations depending on the source it is extracted from. The primary impact though is always the same, and that goes for these ADHD drugs. Are you another PR troll for the pharmaceutical companies? Because I'm seeing a lot of these comments that are suspiciously the same.
@@krystalleigh144 all he said is that you should not assume that they are the same. He did not say similar in effects, he said the same. You did not address his point and then accused him of being a troll on a fairly polite and factually accurate statement. I totally agree with the op. Equivocating meth and other amphetamines like adderall in the video was a silly and intellectually lazy mistake and it definitely takes away from author's credibility. As to your point, meth itself is racemic with an inactive isomer, so a chemically identical molecule just differing in stereo configuration has such a drastic change in effect. There are a plenty of compounds that are chemically similar but for example are halogenated or methylated at different positions (exactly the case with adderall and meth) and vary in effects as well. Sometimes effects are similar, sometimes they are not - it's figured out through science, but to claim that they always are as a rule is absolutely bizarre to me.
@@krystalleigh144 Even if they are the same, dosage matters. And if you don't have to live with the adhd struggle I'd hope you wouldn't go around encouraging people suffering from it not to take their meds.
@@blaireofhylia1572 Dosage matters, but they are still exactly the same! It is complete quackery to put children on legalised "speed" for their behavioural problems when there is a plethora of scientific evidence showing that these behavioural problems aren't a drug deficiency! My partner who I have been with for 17 years was put on such terrible drugs as a kid, it made his life hell. He had adult ADHD as well when I met him and hardly suffers with any symptoms now, because he worked on healing his gut health. I studied a science degree specialising in nutritional biochemistry. Diet, nutrition and lifestyle changes are what doctors should be prescribing not dangerous drugs which act only as a bandaid solution! And if they weren't such brainwashed glorified pill dispensers for big pharma they would be up to date with the latest scientific research proving these things instead of 17 years behind in clinical practice!
While some of the details may have been oversimplified, the concept is dead on accurate. It pretty much described my entire life. Now, I eat only meat and fat, am on no medications, am dropping weight like crazy, am never hungry, and am the healthiest I've ever been in my life. If you want to lead a healthy, happy life, just listen to what the government and the healthcare industry is telling you to do, and then do the exact opposite. It's that easy.
There absolutely cases where this is warranted. But it can quickly lead to a conspiratorial, arrogant mindset of "I know better than all these experts". Expertise DOES exist. It CAN be unbiased and a better guide for truth than our own untrained intuition.

Another point, there’s research suggesting addiction is not as cut and dry as chemical compounds, but is about creating bonds with things that give a sense of pleasure. You can become addicted to anything that gives a feeling of pleasure. To combat this, one researcher said that surrounding yourself with meaningful relationships decreases the risk for addiction. The basis for such thought is that not everyone is addicted to morphine after surgery.
9:08 Any (even aspiring) chemist, pharmacologist and the like will tell you, that the simple substitution of an H-Atom with a methyl group can vastly change how our incredibly complex body reacts to it. Saying that, just because they look similar on paper, they are basically the same is a very misleading conclusion. (Look up cis- vs transplatin, even a simple change in stereochemistry can alter a drugs effects!). Not saying that Adderall is great, but I would've wished for a better explanation. while there are similarities between meth and adderall, they're certainly not the same, and their effects on humans cannot simply be equated just because they look structurally similar. It annoys me as an aspiring chemistry student when i see people equate chemicals like this. You don't have to know too much about chemistry to at least know that sodium chloride has completely different properties than either sodium or chlorine. that said, adderall does have similar effects but is less potent since its effects are less intense and fast acting (info i could find from a quick google search) and I guess the overall point being made here is still quite valid.
European here. Do american doctors really offer so much drugs like tic-tacs? From this video (and some other videos about american healthcare) I'm under the assumption your healthcare has some twisted intent on finding more reasons to prescribe you more drugs then you actually need. When I cut off a piece of my left thumb I was in such pain I asked my doctor to give me some stronger painkillers, he was really reluctant and first sat down with me to tell me all the implications of the drug, when and how to take it (like never on an empty stomach) and how often. Also to take them only if I really could not bare the pain. I ended up using them for only three days and the pain was at that point bearable so no need for the painkillers anymore. I feel like if you were in a similar situation and asked your doctor for a pain killer he'll just oblige like "suuuure, the more the merrier!"
@@devansh3700 exactly, in my country (Croatia) healthcare is provided to us "for free" and is funded from taxes, so we still pay health insurance in a way, but not directly and in turn not as much as you BUT...there is also a down side to this system, our hospitals are waaaay underfunded and understaffed so for some special diagnostics you need to wait for a year and even longer.
Yeah in America, the pharmaceutical companies aren't about developing medicines so much as they're about making money. They'll go as far as selling meth to kids if it means they'll make a few million dollars. I love America and all, as it's my country, but as most European countries have severe problems they don't face, so does America. It's all so tiresome at the end of the day.
Here in America, our docs are given major incentives to give drugs. Things have gotten a little better in some ways, but only in some. For instance, doctors used to get checks from pharmaceutical companies for giving out samplers of drugs as well as writing prescriptions. That changed to allowing drug reps to buy doctors and their staff lunch. That changed to allowing reps to buy lunch ONLY if there's an educational function going on. Loopholes abound, though. Wanna give a doc a bribe for giving out your meds like they're candy? Cool, just throw a big party after a 30 second bit on how great they think their new drug is while also giving the doc a little extra funding "for the practice." Go even bigger! Buy your favorite doctor or hospital some new, expensive equipment. There are a million ways around the restrictions if you wanna stay legal and if you just give a guy a little cash under the table then who's to know? When I was a kid, my parents were told that I was "gifted" and that I had ADD. Being gifted meant that I had a somewhat higher than average IQ for my age, having ADD meant that sometimes I got distracted. A logical person could say that these 2 facts are related, that I wasn't distracted so much as not engaged by the educational system due to me being at the higher side of the average intelligence range for a child. My doctor, however, was a part of a small group of psychiatrist that was chosen to find test subjects for an experimental ADD drug meant to somehow "cure" ADD within a few years. I was chosen for the study. My doctor received recompensation for her part in finding subjects for the study. The drug that was tested on me never made it to market. It worked fairly well as a standard ADD drug like Ritalin (the most common ADD drug at the time), but the supposed long-term effects were highly negative. It turns out that trying to permanently alter a child's developing neurochemistry leads to higher instances of depression, anxiety, schizophrenia, suicide, and other disassociative mental disorders. Fortunately, my parents took me off of it after only a few years but I have no idea if it had any long-term negative effects. All of that to say: I wish America would hurry up and outlaw medical advertising directly to consumers. There's no need for the average citizen to know what Viagra, Cialis, Lipitor, Lunesta, or any other name brand medicine is and what it treats. There's no benefit to the American populace to asking a doctor is (drug) is right for them. Your doctor should be the one with the knowledge of drugs and they should recommend whatever they think will be of most benefit to the patient. As a knock on benefit, eliminating medical advertisements would lower the cost of drugs since they'd no longer be able to justify their marketing budget.
+Skyler in actuality it's not that simple. Also you can't be diagnosed based on only having symptoms in one place, so based on his story, he should have never been diagnosed (since he was just fine at home)
Not just children either. Go to any assisted living facility or skilled nursing home. They just roll huge carts down the aisles and dispense drugs. And all the patients get sleepy and quiet. Very sad...
to be fair though, it is very hard to find the right method to teach children. This one kid was obsessed with minecraft and even after he bought a book about it and wanted me to read it to him, he couldn't even pay attention to what the main character's name was.

For those of you who don't get it or don't have thirteen minutes worth of patience, the point of the video is that you can't trust anyone. Everyone, from your teachers to your doctors to your president, is acting in their own vested interests.
The point of the video is to be skeptical, and educate yourself. It doesn't detract from what you said, but the tone of the message 'you can't trust anyone', and everyone is 'acting in their own vested interest' is unnecessarily, and carelessly aggressive.
@@dingovory you sure sound like someone invested in their own interest.

In case anyone has one, hit me up :)
Major things that need to be completely rebooted: 1) the legal system with tort reform, 2) the pharmaceutical industry including the banning of advertising of ALL prescription medications, 3) abolish the IRS and implement some type of flat/fair tax system. 4) term limits for Congress. There is obviously more but just these 4 would have a major impact on society as a whole.

"When someone tells you something, ANYTHING, ask yourself...
can he get something from lying to you? Be it money or anything else, doesn't matter.
If the answer is yes, he is lying to you. Every time."
Almost 20 years later and it still stands true.
If someone can get any kind of benefit from lying, they always lie. Every time. 100%.
And if they don't, sometimes they lie anyway because they are idiots
interesting thought. i suppose that idea is leaning heavily on the side of caution, so though assuming people are being dishonest might be false sometimes, that still means youre safe for all the rest of the times they were lying.. difficult moral dilemma
Well, as literally any situations can offer beneficts if one is lying, you should assume that people lie H24 a day around you

Here is one for you, I was told not to smoke marijuana for my PTSD because I would become dependent on it to treat my illness. I'm glad I was prescribed to take adderall as a teenager. It made me confident enough to try LSD and Mescaline too.
Mescaline is the best substance ive ever tried
If you belong to a community, in environments that constantly gaslights, mis-understands and pre-sumed guilty, you learn to think, navigate, and look out for yourself pretty early.
while there are similarities between meth and adderall, they're certainly not the same, and their effects on humans cannot simply be equated just because they look structurally similar.
Our healthcare "care for us" and make huge profit from it
Thats one of the problems of having an over capitalist approach in things like health care
@@devansh3700 exactly, in my country (Croatia) healthcare is provided to us "for free" and is funded from taxes, so we still pay health insurance in a way, but not directly and in turn not as much as you
BUT...there is also a down side to this system, our hospitals are waaaay underfunded and understaffed so for some special diagnostics you need to wait for a year and even longer.
Your child does not want to sit still for several hours doing boring busywork? They must be ill! Quick, give them mind-altering drugs!
Alex Brown so damn true
ADHD is not that simple Alex trust me I know I was born through c section

I'm from Germany and I'm currently in my last year of school. I learned about the downside of c-section in an optional biology course and that to give birth upright is best in biology classes. In 11th and 12th grade we have much friendlier relationships with our teachers who allow us to go to the bathroom or to get some coffee in the canteen quite freely. My brother is learning about fat & sugar in 10th grade and just did an "less than 5g sugar in everything I eat and no added sugar" week. College doesn't cost any money (or sometimes just a little sum), textbooks are by far less pricy, and we were well prepared for soon deciding what to do after school (personality tests, several informative evenings, visiting the nearest college, optional talks).
