Oh no, there has been change. What I've noticed is that people in this comment section don't understand that change takes time. Years, decades even. The problem is that you can't change the general structure of school. One of the implicit messages from this video is that the lecture style of teaching is bad. However, it is the only way for teachers to actually teach an entire class. They sadly can't go to each student and teach the student one on one, otherwise they would. The curriculum has been evolving a lot in Canada though, with coding being integrated into elementary education now. So be patient. Change is coming.

The true value of school is that it teaches you to learn, it teaches you to work, it teaches you how to do fundamental things even if they aren’t exact. Most people don’t need algebra, but algebra teaches you how to use logic.

Yeah, I'm only in my second year of high school and I'm already tempted to drop out because it's just so stressful. You're quality is determined by how well you can answer a question on a piece of paper instead of how well you can treat people or how well you can make people happier. I'm sure there's teachers who give people about 2 hours of homework and then the student ends up with 2 hours of homework from all 6 or even 7 classes. Which means about 12 hours of homework possibly, and they wonder why we're suicidal and would rather rot in the ground than try to keep up with the other students that are great at remembering stuff
DexDacozed you don't need to. I live in Finland, I go to an bilingual school, and i'm in the English class, where we speak English as the main language. You don't need to know how to speak Finnish there. We have Finnish classes that are taught like English in the US, but you can choose it as your second language. They'll teach you how to speak and understand Finnish in the second language classes (atleast i think since I have a friend there but i'm not there so i'm not sure).

My teacher showed the class this video. My school is known for top quality students. The first time I sntered, I didn't see anything change from my elementary school. But I realized, this school is teaching me how to understand, have a social life, solve problems, work together, etc. I get why now. My school also gives yearly forms on clubs that should exist. They give daily forms for the things students love doing. (I live in Indonesia btw)

If you can’t remember what your learning in school then that’s your fault for not taking the proper steps to do so. If you study like you are told then you will remember it. Took Spanish 5 years ago and I still use it sometimes at work. I learned mathematic equations and I still use it with ease of memory. I talk about history sometimes with my friends and argue about it and today. It’s all on you if you can remember it you should have studied more should have payed attention.
Driverminers look that’s true but that’s the stuff we can actually use, when are we ever going to need to know when a city decided to plant one crop rather than another. That type of stuff is pointless unless your like some major historian, but to be honest they probably don’t even know that. Learning a new language is something worth remembering and putting the effort into, and math formulas can be helpful too. But a large majority of the things you spend hours studying only teach you how to be bored and be a brainwashed zombie that reads then writes a report on something they don’t enjoy at all. All that time that we are learning the useless things could be spent putting more effort on the useful things or spending time with family. Or even possibly doing things we enjoy and *will* our effort into.

I am a teacher from the UK and each time I see this I am in tears as it is so true. Education should be about learning, but it's about passing meaningless exams. It is designed to give people enough education to perform their jobs, but not enough to change the way things are, meaning the majority of people 99% continue to serve the 1%.

Yeah, I'm only in my second year of high school and I'm already tempted to drop out because it's just so stressful. You're quality is determined by how well you can answer a question on a piece of paper instead of how well you can treat people or how well you can make people happier. I'm sure there's teachers who give people about 2 hours of homework and then the student ends up with 2 hours of homework from all 6 or even 7 classes. Which means about 12 hours of homework possibly, and they wonder why we're suicidal and would rather rot in the ground than try to keep up with the other students that are great at remembering stuff

DexDacozed you don't need to. I live in Finland, I go to an bilingual school, and i'm in the English class, where we speak English as the main language. You don't need to know how to speak Finnish there. We have Finnish classes that are taught like English in the US, but you can choose it as your second language. They'll teach you how to speak and understand Finnish in the second language classes (atleast i think since I have a friend there but i'm not there so i'm not sure).

I’m a student and I definitely think that school needs to be changed, I understand that we need to learn but we don’t need to learn like this. Learning is scientifically proven to be easier and we retain more when we are happy.

School doesn’t care about our personal education, they care about how high our grades are. If a child had phenomenal secret talents, they’ll never get to bring it out because school has such a specific and strict way of teaching. As he said, that child could be able to cure cancer but wouldn’t get to say anything because of the limited subjects and freedom. School is so restricting, from some countries having uniforms to insanely strict boarding schools and “manners”. So I completely agree with this video, stay safe everyone

My teacher showed the class this video. My school is known for top quality students. The first time I sntered, I didn't see anything change from my elementary school. But I realized, this school is teaching me how to understand, have a social life, solve problems, work together, etc. I get why now. My school also gives yearly forms on clubs that should exist. They give daily forms for the things students love doing. (I live in Indonesia btw)
School makes us memorize random things, do an exam and then forget it all.

If you can’t remember what your learning in school then that’s your fault for not taking the proper steps to do so. If you study like you are told then you will remember it. Took Spanish 5 years ago and I still use it sometimes at work. I learned mathematic equations and I still use it with ease of memory. I talk about history sometimes with my friends and argue about it and today. It’s all on you if you can remember it you should have studied more should have payed attention.
Driverminers look that’s true but that’s the stuff we can actually use, when are we ever going to need to know when a city decided to plant one crop rather than another. That type of stuff is pointless unless your like some major historian, but to be honest they probably don’t even know that. Learning a new language is something worth remembering and putting the effort into, and math formulas can be helpful too. But a large majority of the things you spend hours studying only teach you how to be bored and be a brainwashed zombie that reads then writes a report on something they don’t enjoy at all. All that time that we are learning the useless things could be spent putting more effort on the useful things or spending time with family. Or even possibly doing things we enjoy and *will* our effort into.
