Yes queen of the damned, best soundtrack ever! Then you must do the tv show. Equally as vicious but lots of sexiness! You get the Lastat/louis/armond lust to the max plus more Louis/claudia relationship.
Roxy you did not miss the point. It's supposed to make you uncomfortable and give you the creeps. Vampires are monsters. Under all the beautiful skin and romantic lore & veil, they are monsters meant to unsettle you.
@@kristindominguez7927 Ya, I don’t think anyone really watched the theatre scene and thought this is fun. You felt bad for this woman being put on display and killed
@@kristindominguez7927 agreed. Most of modern pop culture vampires are so romanticized that people forget that they are evil monsters, and in most lore are often demonic entities
@@victoriadavislgShe was acting the whole reaction like she’s the only human to be repulsed by p*do stuff. It got annoying the more she repeated herself
Exactly the goal is to make your skin crawl, that's what Louis tries to teach the reporter. And actually... twilight makes me shudder a lot more trying obviously to be "super" romantic while being creepy as hell. Seeing Twilight as an adult it gave me the nearly constant urge to shout "run girl as fast and far as you can!"
It couldn’t have been the nudity cuz they both LOVED Dracula, and Lucy had her tits on display every other scene. I think it just generally disturbed her, and yes the Kirsten content could be really uncomfortable. The theater scene reminds me of scream 2 intro where she gets murdered infront of a theater of people and everyone’s cheering it on.
No more "sparkle". 😅 Now she see's why true vampire fans hated Twilight franchise. Its okay for teens/young adults to be creatures of the night. But a young Kirsten Dunst?? That's heartbreaking for Roxy.
If it makes you feel any better about Kirsten Dunst being 12 yo on set… Brad Pitt was exceedingly protective of her. When discussing that he was her first kiss she described it as gross, like kissing an older brother. I think that says a lot about his vibe toward her on set. Sounds appropriate to me, tbf. Also, Claudia is like 4 yo is the book. It’s the reason her character struggles with eternal youth and why Armand says it is forbidden.
Louie's "gift" was his ability to hold onto his humanity. His conscience & sensitivity. He was melancholy, depressed, & grieving when he died, & wanted to die. So when he was turned, he kind of got stuck in that state, just like Claudia got stuck as an eternal child, unable to physically mature into adulthood.
While funny x) All Vampire fiction is pretty thirsty. It all started with Carmilla back in the 19th century and people wanting to explore their sexual kinks that was seemed queer and weird ( _using old definitions here, so queer = strange and weird = supernatural_ ). If you have vampire fiction and it isn't thirsty for love, is it really vampire fiction at all? Gothic Romance, it needs it!
Does it help to know that Anne wrote the book as a way of coping with the loss of her daughter? If I remember correctly, Anne herself was Lestat and Anne’s husband Louis. they aged up Claudia in the movie because the book had her as much younger. And the vamps should horrify you- that’s the point. The more modern stories are far too “vampires yay” and really we should be thinking “the horror of being a vampire is existential darkness” In Queen of the Damned (the book) Louis states all that most of the Vampires just want to be human again. And in the Vampire Chronicles, the taking of blood is ultimately sexual. As the dead they can’t physically climax. Nor does physical sex interest them. Blood and life taking are the ultimate high. I stopped reading her series when the religion seeped in too much, but I do like her take on vampires best. Well, I guess I am partial to the Buffyverse. Also, Lestat was being honest- his sire taught him nothing.
Anne was Louis, a character stuck in his grief, and she also grew tired of Louis because of this later. Lestat is somewhat her husband (and was originally going to be called Lestan). She gave Louis her birthday and Lestat Stan's birthday (not the years , obviously). Lestat's maker was also not Armand, and Roxy thought. The vampires in the books become more able to have sex later, though.
It really isn't any one vampire movie or books fault 😕 Hollywood switched it from monsters that mimic humans to hunt them to poor handsome souls who just got the short end of lucks draw and pine for their humanity. Forgetting it was almost always a monster first not a man. I guess it's cheaper to make hot actors dress in historical fashion then wear make up and prosthetics.
Agree! Vampires in media now are so sanitized - hot, immortal, limitless … - all pros no cons. The lore of the vampire was way darker they’re meant to be tortured souls, always hungry, strong but lonely, immortal but dammed.. was way more balanced and interesting
In Anne Rice's work, Louis and Lestat never sleep together. Louis in the novel puts it best when he says that the pleasure from sex is but a pale shadow of the killing. Vampires get physical pleasure from drinking blood and killing. They're bodies are not the same as humans anymore. Vampires are mostly used for romance these days. It's easy to forget the violence. Kirsten Dunst spoke at length about how protected she felt filming this movie, especially by Tom, Brad and her mother
...Well, not in the first book anyway 😂 They are essentially married and actively have gotten around the 'vampires can't have sex' thing at the end of the series.
@@LadyGreensleeves33 😂 You'd think they'd get antisocial at some point lol. It's been years since I started reading them but maybe I should give it another shot.
@@christopherschreiber5805 Lmao. it's a pretty wild series. They both have other love interests and fledglings at various points, it becomes a self-loathing vampire polycule of true weirdness.- but yeah at the end it's Prince Lestat and Louis as his consort.
Yeah they're dead. They literally don't have the body function to experience sexual attraction anymore, but they are a romantic couple. They're not living together for decades and having a kid together just for the hell of it lol.
I remember watching this at the theater opening weekend and it was such a great experience. So many Anne Rice simps like me in the audience being pleasantly surprised by Tom Cruise's performance. The Anne Rice vampires are definitely my favorite vampire universe.
Oh, yeah. I went with girl friends and we loved it because we'd read all the books and were so hyped for the movie. And Tom Cruise played the part so well, you didn't mind he wasn't 6 feet tall.
Yes, it's definitively one of the better series by focusing on the psychological aspects of how horrifying being a Vampire would be, rather than just begin sexy and mysterious.
Since I was a kid, I always assumed that the "love" between vampires in this universe seemed to be more spiritual than physical, which is why I was not shocked by this relationship between Louis and Claudia
Great movie! Neither Brad Pitt nor Tom Cruise liked each other onset and they were at each other's throats while filming. Anne Rice disliked the idea of casting Tom Cruise as Lestat, until she saw his audition tape and knew he was perfect for the role. The film is dedicated to the memory of River Phoenix who died from a drug overdose in 1993 at age 23. He was cast as the interviewer Daniel Malloy, until Christian Slater, his friend, played the part for him.
The woman for Claudia was the mother of a child who had died. The girl's pict was in the locket she showed Louis and she was similar to Claudia. So she wanted a child who couldn't die, and Claudia wanted a companion who would never leave her.
i never saw it as creepy. louis was like her father. i feel like "you wanted her" was more because claudia was so pure and louis hasnt had that for a long while. he just felt a connection to her. and "my love" was just the language back then
Yes, him "wanting" her was as food. And of course the love is platonic. In the movie she's the replacement for the child he lost, and the child Anne Rice lost.
She's taking every use of the words 'want' and 'love' to mean sexually, when context shows that it's clearly not the case. I don't know if Roxy is just willfully ignorant, or just doesn't pay attention at all.
INTERVIEW WITH THE VAMPIRE is a horror movie. Welcome to actual horror movies. The point is to unnerve, disturb, challenge and make you feel uneasy. The stuff definitely balances out the "fun" of being a vampire i.e. a serial killer. I always appreciated that the film never tries to leave you with this silly fantasy that being a vampire is going to be fun, it makes its thesis clear that all of this is wrong and none of it is every okay no matter how inviting being an immortal murderer might seem. Horror movies that actually horrify exist. It's important to remember that as much as its important to remember that once vampires were scary.
It's a horror story about monsters. I think expecting it to be sexy fun is kind of odd. They eat people.. they are undead creatures that kill. I totally agree it's uncomfortable and the events in the movie are awful, I'm just confused by expecting anything else. Bram Stoker's Dracula is similarly disturbing, deliberately so. I think it's more weird to romanticize the concept of vampires and ignore the literal horror of such an existence.
I'm not confused at all, people these days are used to big brand soulless sanitized blockbusters that are meant for fan service, blockbusters aren't made anymore to challenge your perceptions and make you uncomfortable
This was the movie where I got my first crush on Brad Pitt. You also have to realize no one that seen this in theater in 1994, thought any type of pedo anything during this movie. We seen father/brother/daughter scenario Also, River Phoenix was suppose to be in the role of Christian Slater but he died not long before filming started.
Anne Rice vampires aren't the teen twilight vampires. The vampires in the Anne Rice books do everything for their own desires and are pretty brutal in how they get what they want.
Aaaand this is why I hate Twilight! Vampires aren't suppose to be lighthearted and sparkle in the sunlight. They're monsters! They're suppose to be creepy and uncomfortable.
I thought 🤔 the same thing. I was like Roxy is offended that these vampires weren't light like Twilight vampire's? Vampires do not have to be shiny & glittery like Twilight' s vampires . Vampires are monsters.I never got the creepy vibes Roxy had regarding this movie 🍿
"suppose", There is no "supposed to be like" It's up to the Writer and there are no rules in Fiction. Vampires can be represented wildly different as in: Buffy the Vampire Slayer 30 Days of Night True Blood Blade Vampire Diaries The Strain And yes even Twilight Are all depictions of Vampires
@@TheGeekHeroes I agree. The writer has the privilege to make their own mythology, and the audience has the privilege to like or dislike it and find whatever works for them as well.
Cool 90 minutes of John trying to enjoy a FANTASY horror movie while Roxy virtue signals the entire time... I always really enjoy the Shejects but this felt hyper-sensitive to me. They are vampires. They don't age. That is the point.
I never got the weird creepy vibes from Kristen's relationship with Louis and Lestat, she was their child, I wish it hadn't tainted her view of this movie
It never even crossed my mind or any of the millions who watched it on release.. Roxy just likes to feel special and invent hate for no reason knowing anyone calls her out she can cry and get support.
I hadn't thought of it that way either. It's interesting that she's okay with Twilight, considering it involves a teenage girl in a relationship with a man who's hundreds of years old.
What's interesting to me is that the first book is told through Louis eyes, and Lestat is viewed as a monster. The second book is told through Lestat's eyes, and you can't help but empathize with him.

This is one of the movies I watch when I’m homesick for Louisiana. I loved it growing up. The AMC tv series takes this material to another level. It’s absolutely fantastic and I pray it wins Emmys especially for Jacob Anderson (Louis) and Sam Reid (Lestat) Would love to see you guys watch it.
He does this with a lot of former costars, apparently, he sends a coconut cake from a particular bakery, and birthday cards. As crazy as he is, and he's in a crazy cult, he's pretty thoughtful with people he works with.
Louis: (*being emo*) Lestate: AHH SHUT UP LOUIS!! 😂😂 That line from Lestat, summing up my feelings towards Louis in the book series. And you guys cut it from the reaction. 😭😆
This is what I came here to say. It is much closer to the spirit of the books, and the acting, script, worldbuilding is fantastic. One of the best series broadcast in the last few years. Do yourselves a favor and watch it
@@danielpeckham5520 Disagree. The movie also changed a lot but the series goes deeper into each character and displays the themes better. It's excellent.
To this day, one of the best movies I have ever seen. I watched this movie literally a hundred times over and watch it again. The feelings, the sorrow and reality of immortality that eats you alive. One of those movies that lives up to the source material novel from Ann Rice. This is a deep story that requires proper audience to understand 😉
Roxy needs to leave the morality at the door or stick to twilight, where the vampires sparkle in the sunlight. Vampires are not this romantic fairytale, it isn't always sexy and children aren't even safe. Her quiet blank expression toward the middle of the movie is priceless LOL.
Roxy, you’re not going to find your opinion popular with Vampire movie fans, Pitt fans, Cruise fans, Ann Rice fans, Banderas fans, Dunst fans, novel to film adaptation fans, horror fans or with the viewers who recommended this movie. Weirdly you said that you would have liked it if Lastat and Louis were simply lovers with sex scenes and no women/girls were harmed, killed or made to feel sad/afraid (take notes requesters). You missed the entire point of the book and movie. This is what Losing Your Humanity Looks Like.
When someone says Tom Cruise this is the movie that comes to mind. I dont watch many of his movies but yeah, this to me is the coolest performance. And Brad and Kirsten said The Scene was uncomfortable but glad that it was quick. And her mom was present.

To spell it out for Roxy, at 27 minutes when Louis feeds on her Claudia is a child. At 33:09 Claudia clearly states she wants to be the lady. At 35:18 Louis says for 30 years as him and Claudia walk up to the house where he fed on her. And the scene just before that where she rages about forever looking like a child even though emotionally/mentally she is not. Also...she slept in the same coffin, like how when kids get scared they crawl into bed with their parents and then grow out of doing that. Methinks your strange vibe is solely on you, not the movie.
I slept with my parents till I was like 7 years old sometimes. I had crazy nightmares. I used to do the same thing. Get up and tiptoe to their room and sleep either in the bed or on the floor next to them Completely unexpected reaction... Almost like she was constantly looking for a sexual thing with the kid. WTF
A lot of people already brought up good points so I'll just leave this: Louis power is his humanity, his boundless compassion for life. To take a life kills him all over. That is why he refuses to drink human blood. And this is why everyone finds him so beautiful. He is a Vampire with a human soul intact.
1. Anne Rice lost her daughter to leukemia at age 5(the age Claudia is in the book). The character of Claudia was her way of working through her grief. In the movie she is supposed to be about 9. In the show they age her up to 14. 2. Rumor had it that the producers were asked to tone down the idea that Lestat and Luis were in a romantic relationship, but the crew tried to leave as much as they could in(the tv show is explicit about their romantic relationship) 3. There is a clip of Kristen being asked about having to kiss Brad Pitt, with him being in his early 30s at the time, and her being much younger. She said it was weird. You can find the clip around.
With the Immortal Universe, there are many rules to it's design. Especially in later lore, you learn that at a certain level, Vampires are harder to kill. But they do also have many laws to follow. But in either the TV series or Queen of the Damned, they explain more.
Kirsten Dunst was only 11 or 12 when this was filmed. She was so young. She had her first kiss with Brad Pitt who was nearly 20 years her senior. It would have been super uncomfy for both.
You need to watch some more horror shows then. Why is it so great? Because they race-swapped characters and made it much more gay? Like almost every show does these days? They also made Claudia too old. Having said that it is not bad and the actor who plays Lestat is very good.
@@kroft6799 It’s “so great” because of the fantastic writing and acting. Jacob Anderson is amazing and definitely the best adaptation of Louis, giving him an actual personality. Pacing and story is wonderfully fleshed out (which the movie struggled with greatly) and deals with such hefty and emotionally heavy, traumatic themes that it connects with so many people. It balances the horror, drama, romance and horror elements perfectly.
@@kroft6799 None of the things you mentioned would have made it great. They would would just have made it mindlessly, exploitatively woke. The show is great because of the depth of the writing, the stunning performances and the production values. And I've probably seen every horror show that exists, so I don't need to watch more. I was a huge fan of the novel and was aghast when I learned of the changes that were being wrought, but I couldn't have been more wrong. This show isn't ""not bad"" it's superb, and actually improves on the source material.
@@kroft6799 It would have been laughable if they had made those "race swap" changes just to tick boxes, but they didn't. They actually transcended the source material and created something brilliant. And Claudia had to be made older in order to avoid the child/adult connotations which would be less acceptable to today's audiences. The reimagining of Louis is top-tier conception and writing, and Jacob Anderson's performance is often breath-taking. The elaboration of the original story, such as the events in the Parisian Theatre Des Vampires in season two is awesome. I also now regard Sam Reid as being the definitive Lestat.
Y'all should watch the AMC series!! While not as accurate to the books, I really appreciate the depth that is added and can be explored between all the characters with the amount of time a tv show gives to play with. And lets just say, that tension you were feeling doesn't go so... unresolved lol Edit: If Roxy is a little put off by the Claudia dynamic, I will go ahead and say that Claudia is aged up significantly, and while they do ask some of the questions about what it means to be stuck in a body that isn't fully grown, her dynamic with grown men is much less suggestive
I deleted sensual because the very definition of it is gratifying the senses, especially sexual pleasures. I find nothing sexual about this movie. It's about the thirst and hunger of a vampire. I'm not even sure they have sexual desires that need to be fulfilled.
@@boomer63 yes, the movie is very faithful to the book, and the vampires in that don't feel sexual desire at all, unlike the tv series which changed alot
@@danielpeckham5520 I mean the TV series didn't necessarily change that aspect super significantly.... They just got rid of a retcon. Because they're able to adapt the ENTIRE book series... And aren't doing it strictly book by book... They are taking the entirety of the lore and just doing away with a retcon that Anne made.... She originally made the vampires completely asexual because of the severe censorship that was happening within the publication houses in the 70s.... She literally wouldn't have been able to get the book published if she wrote it the way that she actually wanted to... And she has absolutely made comments online about Louis and Lestat fucking... So the author of the books, herself, absolutely saw their relationship as romantic AND sexual in nature even if she could not actually write that aspect in the books, in the beginning, in that way. The vampires do eventually have physical sexual intercourse in the books. So the show just made it so that the retcon doesn't need to happen and they can still have sex but the exchange of blood IS still extremely extremely intimate... Potentially even more intimate than sex, like it is in the books... though they haven't delved too deep into it in the show yet... I'm assuming they will in the future. They certainly make it look sexual imo from what little they have shown of it happening. So yeah the show actually hasn't made THAT big of a departure and I seriously seriously doubt that Anne Rice would have a problem with it. Or else she wouldn't have talked openly about Louis and Lestat giving each other blowjobs on social media, ya know? Her vampires still fuck... it just took a little bit of time for her to actually be able to talk about it because censorship was a bitch and a prude for a LONG time. 🤷♀️
Part of it isn't so much when it was made, but when a person first sees it. At time of release, we were still all taught that sex, religion, and politics were best left out of polite conversation. These days however, pretty much everything is viewed or portrayed through the lens of one if not all three. Makes it hard for people to view things without seeing subtext that may not be intended or even actually there.
Don’t get too pissed off, man, it’s not that big a deal. She didn’t know the proper term. I think she was making the point that the trees are so prevalent in the South, and that so many have been well preserved on many plantations for the purpose of being picturesque (cinematic, even) that you come to associate them with being on plantations. Roxy, like myself, is from Boston and you never see trees covered in Spanish Moss up this way. In fact, you’ll almost never see Spanish Moss growing on trees much further north than places like Georgia or the Carolinas. It just so happens that the places with marshy, swampy land and climate that allows for the Spanish Moss to grow on the trees are the same places where slavery and the plantations they were on are. Gorgeous trees to look at and show up in MANY films and tv shows almost (but not entirely) exclusively dealing with slavery and such, so she has made the connection as “plantation trees”, but I highly doubt she thought they were exclusively on plantations.
It's a shame people would rather ignore history because it's uncomfortable that see that as a reason to learn from it. Louis was a vampire in life as well as death. Ironically he only stopped being a racist when he became a vampire.
You read my mind! My thoughts exactly. She killed the vibe. Why does she do reactions when she's always in a mood. This channel would fail if it was her by herself.
I did not feel Leon ever sexualized Natalie’s character. Not one time. Here, I felt horrible for the real life child who was forced to kiss a real life adult. Just couldn’t separate the movie from the on set experience.
@@roxystriar Portman was more sexualized for the audience for instance when she dressed as Marilyn Monroe. Were the same age when I saw it for the first time so I was okay with it😂
@@MrEthan80 Kirsten herself jokes about the kiss to this day. I think she’s fine Roxy. Take a pill and stop reading so damn much into everything. Way to kill a great movie.
This reaction made me so sad! I think because i was such an avid reader of the books, i loved this adaptation. Ann Rice wrote this to process her grief at the death of her daughter. Louis was her grief incarnate.
In all the following books I looked most forward to Louis' parts than anyone else's. He was always the best, deepest thinking character for me. After the movie, he was always Brad Pitt in my mind.
50:04 Roxi, Rice's vampires are always sensual but not sexual, a companion is a partner that shares mind and blood, but not in a sexual act. The utmost sensual thing they can experience is the frenzy of hearing the heartbeat through the bite.... It is a long specific lore, but I suggest as many others here to catch the AMC series, is amazing.
YES Tilda was absolutely fantastic in this, and people should start making first time reactions about it because I had been searching for one and apparently no one has done it yet!
Roxy, I think this film brought to light how romanticized the vampire has become in recent years. Films like Twilight and other paranormal romance vampires meant for a young adult audience. But this is the foundation of what vampires should be: beautiful but grotesque, horrifying, and deeply unsettling. That is the origin of true vampire lore.
@@victoriadavislg goodness. Even though I've read the book, I don't recall that detail, and didn't catch him saying that at the top of the movie. Thanks for clearing that up.
I loved the books growing up and loved the film. The TV series has done a great job diving in to the characters and themes from the book that were hard to do in a movie. The books are meant to be dark so it’s interesting that Roxy was looking for something more fluffy 😅 Vampires are dangerous. As a fan of all vampires lore from Vampires Diaries (also read those books) to the Nosferatu, a lot has been romanticized but even in Twilight, Edward is always telling Bella how he’s a killer.
Funnily enough, Twilight pretty much ripped off the "sparkling vampire" thing from Anne Rice. It's been a while since I read the books, but iirc, in "The Queen of the Damned" Lestat learns that vampires of a certain age (or ones that drink blood of a sufficiently elder vampire) no longer get harmed from being in sunlight, and their skin becomes hardened and looks like something akin to marble, even sparkling faintly in direct light. Next movie up is "Queen of the Damned", which is based on a combination of the novel of the same name, and its predecessor: "The Vampire Lestat". It has a lot of mixed opinions, but I like it for how cheesy it is at times, and for the soundtrack being my music taste in high school: Alt/Industrial-ish Rock and NuMetal. I don't want to spoil the plot, but the hook that leads into the story is "What if someone as narsacistic and attention-seeking as Lestat heard Rock music for the first time and thought 'hmm, I could be the frontman of a 'vampire' rock band'...
I never connected it before, but I feel Stephenie Meyer also ripped off the ‘we don’t turn children’ because they can’t control them and they don’t age.
That's why, even though there's a LOT to legitimately criticize Twilight for, I always maintained that the "Sparkling" thing was NEVER one of them. Vampire lore has had much weirder variations, and the whole thing stank of either conscious or unconscious homophobia to me.
@@StardustandMadness Definitely did, and it's a theme that's come up in older vampire novels as well... I want to say there was stuff about it in Dracula.
@@HobGungan I always interpreted it as it being another facet of the vampire's inate ability to subconsciously attract their human prey; the "allure of a vampire" that works directly with the 'lizard brain'... Sorta like: "Ooh, look, shiny thing!" ... moth to flame.
Things to remember: Kisses, even on the lips, aren't inherently sexual. Humans have used them to express affection and care, romantically, platonically, and familially for thousands of years. Claudia had the body of a child, but she was mentally in her 30s-40s for most of her time in the movie (she was ~8-11 or so when she was turn, then 30 years passed, and then however long after) Emotional intimacy between two (emotionally anyway) adults isn't pedophilia, and it was very clear, if you actually pay attention, that what was between Claudia & Louis was not sexual at all Vampires aren't sexy, they're monsters. Monsters do monstrous things. Vampires kill people, that's what they do. They don't 'have' to, but if you want your vampirism to remain a secret, and yourself to not die your final death to an angry mob, you can't leave people running around knowing they've been bitten by a vampire. I agree with others, I'm pretty disappointed with Roxy's reaction, mostly because of the immaturity of it. But I shouldn't be surprised - she was part of the HORRENDOUSLY awful and disrespectful reaction to 'Glory', mocking and making light of serious historical subject matter. I'm just going to avoid watching any video with Roxy in it. Maybe she's a great person IRL, but in the videos here, she's just awful.

This movie has and will always be one of my favorite vamp movies, but the TV series oh my !!! If Anne Rice was still alive she would have been in awe of the re telling of one of the best romance stories of all time.
When John talks about how amazing of a makeup artist the one on this movie was- I read (I think it was this movie) to get the veins in the skin perfect they hung the actors upside down so the blood rushed to their facial veins and they lightly layered them into the makeup, that’s why it looks below the skin surface but still prominent. Also the Lestat that bleeds out from the neck is completely animatronic- that’s why he gets gaunt as he bleeds out and dies. There was no cgi used for that particular effect and they still made it look amazing
What you don't get in this film is that in the Anne Rice universe, vampires can't physically...perform. Now, they've changed that in the tv series, but in the original series of novels and this film, that was part of the lore.
@@DanteRU0312 sure but I’m just saying that it goes against a natural rule that is a big part of being a vampire. They’re undead, they have no flowing blood, so it’s funny that they can magically get boners.
@@HuntingViolets yeh obviously there’s a magical fantasy element of them being dead but still walking and talking. But there’s a specific detail about them being able to get hard without blood flow added to that magic. If you don’t understand what I’m saying then I’ve got nothing else to say about it. I’ve already explained why I find it funny several times.
I wish John had had a different reaction partner for this one. Roxy was ridiculous. She's basically criticising the movie for not being more 'Twilightesque?' You do realise that the majority of vampires are not like the Cullens? Even the other Twilight vampires back stories would be just as horrific. Regarding the child and the theatre scene...its SUPPOSED to be uncomfortable for the audience. That's the point. You can feel that the kiss between Claudia and Louis was inappropriate (even though Claudia is probably 40 in the story) but still appreciate that the movie is brilliant...instead of stating 'Its not for me' based solely on those scenes. How do think vampires are supposed to behave? Most of them would probably behave like psychopaths and would ditch any sense of human morality. Roxy really spoiled this reaction imo. But I did really enjoy John's appreciation for it. This is a fantastic movie with fantastic performances by everyone.
The underlying truth I took from it was how one can become trauma stuck seemingly forever. I still hurt decades after my childhood trauma, not to mention my divorce when my life came to a halt for over a decade. All of us are vampires in our eternal misery and isolation. We just linger until we recover enough to take a chance and find ourselves recovering enough to progress emotionally.
The question “ does he love him” that’s idea is explored in the TV series and makes more sense. You get that feeling they are lovers in the movie but never see it in the series you SEE that love lol
In my opinion Interview with Vampire is the best of the entire genre of vampire films. I remember watching this being this is probably how vampires would live if they were real. In the aspect of being monsters and also not understanding who they really are. Roxy is great and allowed to have whatever feeling she has towards the film but this one l think you need step outside oneself to realize what a great piece of art it is. Art is beautiful real and uncomfortable and what an Artist Anne Rice was.
I think you put too much ick into this Roxy. They spoke differently than. But even so, I call my kids my love too. I think when you're a mom, it will make more sense. My love to you means something much different right now.
I mean... Sure yeah you CAN say those words platonically.... But even within the book they were not wholly platonic. They absolutely were romantic and they (Louis and Claudia) did kind of see each other as lovers. Thankfully, the TV show has taken away the sexual subtext that absolutely IS within their relationship in the source material and this movie. I mean I would have actually been more okay with it because they did age Claudia up which makes the relationship look less absolutely creepy... But they decided to just completely skip over that aspect of their relationship with each other which I'm also totally fine with because it was kind of gross... But yeah, in the source material they do NOT have a strictly platonic father-daughter relationship.... And it's the same with Lestats biological mother and himself... There's quite a bit of incest and pseudo incest within the book series. And it absolutely does make a lot of people uncomfortable, which is valid. A lot of people stop reading the books because of how uncomfortable it makes them. But it is still technically subtext technically. Within the text enough to make people uncomfortable though... Which is partially the point of Gothic literature tbh. To make people uncomfortable.
@@AnxietyRat yes if they had gone more by the book, I'd completely understand. But, how they portrayed it in the movie, was much more innocent and paternal in my opinion.
Roxy's expectations were completely thrown out the window. These days, we are used to seeing vampires as less dark and more romantic, thanks to stuff like Twilight, True Blood, and The Vampire Diaries. It kind of makes you feel like vampires should be hot and sexy. But that’s a pretty recent take. Older vampire stories were all about monsters-evil, creepy beings, with nothing sexy about them. Actually, I remember this movie and Coppola’s Dracula as some of the first that brought a romantic vibe to vampires, but in a dark, twisted way-way before Twilight turned them into heartthrobs for teens.
As an 'evolutionary' move Vampires most appealing features are amplified when they turn. Being 'Beautiful' and Magnetic are necessary for how they survive. Also part of the CODE to choosing who to turn.
It’s as you said John, vampires are not (traditionally) hot people with sparkly skin who don’t eat people - that’s the antithesis of what they are at their core they are murd3rers and you aren’t supposed to have warm fuzzy feelings towards them
There's a whole group of people who do this - they cry 'pedo' essentially every time they see kids & adults interact. They see it in every type of interaction, it's the first thing they think of. It's nuts.
I’d love to see you guys watch the TV series. It addresses every single thing about this that you didn’t care for, or wanted but didn’t get. It’s an inherently sexy, gothic version of the story, which takes a much more tasteful approach to the story’s worst excesses.
The show does maybe a better job at the Tri relationship between, Lestat, Louie and Claudia. The movie makes it ambiguous but neither Lestat or Louis were or had that kind of intimate thoughts about Claudia. They were just a very dysfunctional family
you HAVE to react to the amc show now! i watched the movie when they announced they were making the show so I could be in the known and it left me pretty disappointed. i liked the aesthetics but the movie was just... meh. it was okay but boring in certain places I didn't get the hype. and THEN the tv show came out and it blew me away!!! season 2 is out now too and I can confidently say that it's my favorite thing on tv right now!! the acting is phenomenal, the story has time to breathe, the characters are so well written and the changes are well thought out. the cinematography, music, set design, everything is top-notch!! i really hope you give it a shot, imo it's worth the hype!

Roxy has come to the realization that being a vampire is not a positive thing LMAO.
Lol IKR??? Vampires are MONSTERS and are creatures of horror. Honestly though, Anne Rice does sensual monstrosity very well.
Too much Twilight
That may be it. I think she was going into it with the idealized, romantic fantasy, and that colored how she perceived it.
Now she see's why true vampire fans hated Twilight franchise.
Its okay for teens/young adults to be creatures of the night. But a young Kirsten Dunst?? That's heartbreaking for Roxy.
The Claudia thing is like having a baby to save a failing marriage. Sure, it's creepy and wrong, but she's their child.
Her parents were also always on set.
She was like 8 in the book wasn't she?
6@@elisefisher1717

@@Zeithri "All vampire fiction is pretty thirsty" in a couple of different ways, at least
Lol exactly!!!!!
Oh Louis, Louis. Still whining, Louis. Have you heard enough? I've had to listen to that for centuries.😂
They didn't even mention the brilliant dialogue in this movie, so many good lines
The more modern stories are far too “vampires yay” and really we should be thinking “the horror of being a vampire is existential darkness”
In Queen of the Damned (the book) Louis states all that most of the Vampires just want to be human again.
Monsterous behavior, right? Vampires are monsters. I think that so many modern viewers forget that. Too many emo depictions in newer media.
Just goes to show how much damage the Twilight saga did to the vampire genre.

It was one of my first movies I have seen in cinema. It was an amazing experience
Oh, yeah. I went with girl friends and we loved it because we'd read all the books and were so hyped for the movie. And Tom Cruise played the part so well, you didn't mind he wasn't 6 feet tall.
Try author laurell k Hamilton. First 6 books is really something . After that it gets sexual but still REALLY good
Yes, it's definitively one of the better series by focusing on the psychological aspects of how horrifying being a Vampire would be, rather than just begin sexy and mysterious.
Since I was a kid, I always assumed that the "love" between vampires in this universe seemed to be more spiritual than physical, which is why I was not shocked by this relationship between Louis and Claudia
Exactly it's spiritual, not sexual, but hey an opportunity to get offended and she took it
Spot on. They can't even function sexually anymore, which is also why they're all biromantic. But Claudia very much was a daughter to Louis
Apparently the feud between them was fuelled by Brad Pitt not wearing deodorant
And Christian Slater either donated his pay or didn’t take pay for the role in honor of River. Can’t remember which
@@Hellohellonada I think he donated the whole pay to charities that River supported while he was alive
The woman for Claudia was the mother of a child who had died. The girl's pict was in the locket she showed Louis and she was similar to Claudia. So she wanted a child who couldn't die, and Claudia wanted a companion who would never leave her.
@@Jerralyng49 I did feel like they misunderstood that part.

And the scene just before that where she rages about forever looking like a child even though emotionally/mentally she is not. A lot of people already brought up good points so I'll just leave this:
Louis power is his humanity, his boundless compassion for life.
2. Rumor had it that the producers were asked to tone down the idea that Lestat and Luis were in a romantic relationship, but the crew tried to leave as much as they could in(the tv show is explicit about their romantic relationship)
3. There is a clip of Kristen being asked about having to kiss Brad Pitt, with him being in his early 30s at the time, and her being much younger. She said it was weird. You can find the clip around.
To be fair to kiss anyone in that age would be weird
With the Immortal Universe, there are many rules to it's design. Especially in later lore, you learn that at a certain level, Vampires are harder to kill. But they do also have many laws to follow. But in either the TV series or Queen of the Damned, they explain more.
"I'm going to give you ... the choice ... I, never had."
LOVE how he says that! He’s brilliant in this film!
Kirsten Dunst was only 11 or 12 when this was filmed. She was so young. She had her first kiss with Brad Pitt who was nearly 20 years her senior. It would have been super uncomfy for both.

@kroft6799 bro the acting in the show is crazy plus the sets are sooo good 😭 the accents are perfect too
Y'all should watch the AMC series!! While not as accurate to the books, I really appreciate the depth that is added and can be explored between all the characters with the amount of time a tv show gives to play with. And lets just say, that tension you were feeling doesn't go so... unresolved lol
Edit: If Roxy is a little put off by the Claudia dynamic, I will go ahead and say that Claudia is aged up significantly, and while they do ask some of the questions about what it means to be stuck in a body that isn't fully grown, her dynamic with grown men is much less suggestive
It's easily my favorite vampire origin story in literature. Huge story! Brilliantly told.
Never once did I see the relationship between the three as creepy or sexual. Intimate? Yes. Sexual? Never. I still don't.
Well, it's a kind of subtext but yes it's not explicitly sexual really, you are correct that it's more sensual than sexual
Those are not "plantation trees". They exist all around the southern states @17:05. There are oak trees with Spanish moss. Great reaction video!
Wait till Roxy learns about what's going on in Let the Right One In.
She'll be twice as insufferable then - they should only give her the vamp romances from now on
Let the right one in is another masterpiece book and films
"Master of a large plantation" bothers you never study history.
It's a shame people would rather ignore history because it's uncomfortable that see that as a reason to learn from it.
Louis was a vampire in life as well as death. Ironically he only stopped being a racist when he became a vampire.
So Roxy was fine with the sexualization of Natalie Portman in the Professional but this didn’t get a pass from the same decade?
You read my mind! My thoughts exactly. She killed the vibe. Why does she do reactions when she's always in a mood. This channel would fail if it was her by herself.
I did not feel Leon ever sexualized Natalie’s character. Not one time. Here, I felt horrible for the real life child who was forced to kiss a real life adult. Just couldn’t separate the movie from the on set experience.
@@roxystriar Portman was more sexualized for the audience for instance when she dressed as Marilyn Monroe. Were the same age when I saw it for the first time so I was okay with it😂
Dunst isn't sexualised at all. She gives a powerhouse performance.
I mean, if we are going deep into vampire stuff, I have to suggest "ONLY LOVERS LEFT ALIVE" starring Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston
a completely perfect movie!!!! one of my deserted island picks!!
YES Tilda was absolutely fantastic in this, and people should start making first time reactions about it because I had been searching for one and apparently no one has done it yet!
A very boring movie.
"Tom must be in platforms.." He's never NOT in platforms :D
Roxy, I think this film brought to light how romanticized the vampire has become in recent years. Films like Twilight and other paranormal romance vampires meant for a young adult audience. But this is the foundation of what vampires should be: beautiful but grotesque, horrifying, and deeply unsettling. That is the origin of true vampire lore.
I never thought Claudia and Louis relationship was in anyway inappropriate I saw him as her father figure the child he never got to have
I think he did have children though. At the beginning of the movie, he said he'd wanted to die because his wife and children had died.
Some just can't help but look for flaws and things that are offensive to them.
@@IndomitableAde His wife died during childbirth as well as the baby so he never got to experience being a father
@@victoriadavislg goodness. Even though I've read the book, I don't recall that detail, and didn't catch him saying that at the top of the movie. Thanks for clearing that up.
@@IndomitableAdeit didnt happen in the book. they added it in the movie to heterosexual-ify him
I loved the books growing up and loved the film.
Anne Rice made a public apology for questioning Tom Cruise playing Lestat as she questioned it before but then was amazed after watching the movie
Please react to the AMC series next!! It deserves more hype!! And the writing is amazing!
There's a reason why there's little hype around the show
Show is zzzzz😅😅😅😅😅
@@marinacosme153 girl you're obsessed i'm reading the comment section and you're under every comment complimenting the show
Things to remember:
Kisses, even on the lips, aren't inherently sexual. Humans have used them to express affection and care, romantically, platonically, and familially for thousands of years.
Claudia had the body of a child, but she was mentally in her 30s-40s for most of her time in the movie (she was ~8-11 or so when she was turn, then 30 years passed, and then however long after)
Emotional intimacy between two (emotionally anyway) adults isn't pedophilia, and it was very clear, if you actually pay attention, that what was between Claudia & Louis was not sexual at all
Vampires aren't sexy, they're monsters.
Roxy came in expecting a super hero power fantasy movie not a monster lol
Your idea of vampires is sanitary and modern.
One thing you have to give Tom Cruise credit for, he always gives 100% no matter what.
I was like Anne Rice & thought Tom Cruise' oh no then like Anne I was converted & was impressed with Tom' s performance & I still 💕 Tom ' s performance. The actor in new tv show amazing but of course the new version is not confined by morals & expectations of the 90' s
It's a shame he doesn't do more dramatic roles because he's so talented when he puts the effort into the character rather than scaling buildings 😅

This movie has and will always be one of my favorite vamp movies, but the TV series oh my !!! If Anne Rice was still alive she would have been in awe of the re telling of one of the best romance stories of all time.
Yall HAVE to watch the tv show oh my god! The movie is a lot of fun, but the show is such a stunning display of acting and writing!
Remember when movies sometimes made you uncomfortable, to actually make you think, and question things? 🙂😉❤
And trust me. As a victim of child abuse of THAT kind, if anyone should be uncomfortable, it would be me. But it’s just A VAMPIRE MOVIE.
Could somebody please tell Roxy to stop insinuating sexual things about the kid actress? It's really really weird.
Every movie. She needs therapy
they encourage her because they're all friends
Sadly, I agree. Not once did I get that vibe watching this movie until she said something.
I agree most people that act like Roxy is projecting. Just sayin...
@@rayne795 agreed. it was so upsetting to see her cheapen actual child SA by talking about it like this
What you don't get in this film is that in the Anne Rice universe, vampires can't physically...perform. Now, they've changed that in the tv series, but in the original series of novels and this film, that was part of the lore.
I always found that strange and funny, how vampires can have s3x when they don't have blood flowing to get hard 😅
Indeed, in the books they don't have sexual desires, and this movie is rather faithful to the books
@@DanteRU0312 sure but I’m just saying that it goes against a natural rule that is a big part of being a vampire. They’re undead, they have no flowing blood, so it’s funny that they can magically get boners.
@@alexp601 People who don't have blood flowing would be unable to think or walk too, so I find it odd this is the thing singled out.
EW
In my opinion Interview with Vampire is the best of the entire genre of vampire films. I remember watching this being this is probably how vampires would live if they were real. In the aspect of being monsters and also not understanding who they really are. Roxy is great and allowed to have whatever feeling she has towards the film but this one l think you need step outside oneself to realize what a great piece of art it is. Art is beautiful real and uncomfortable and what an Artist Anne Rice was.
i am duty bound to tell you that you MUST watch the series. it is honestly one of the best things on tv right now.
It's overrated really, it changed far too much from the books.
Louis not "Nl664" in the book
@@danielpeckham5520 It's not overrated. If anything, it could get more praise.
I second this the new Interview With The Vampire AMC TV series is incredible.
She'll ruin it if she reacts to it.
I think you put too much ick into this Roxy. They spoke differently than. But even so, I call my kids my love too. I think when you're a mom, it will make more sense. My love to you means something much different right now.
Good point yeah, some of the subtext of the film isn't really what people might think it is these days
But, how they portrayed it in the movie, was much more innocent and paternal in my opinion.
yeah - she RUINED this reaction for me
Roxy's expectations were completely thrown out the window.
You should watch the TV show next! It's one of the best things on TV right now.
Nonsense. It’s absolutely disrespectful Gen Z abomination
Nobody want to see that

It’s as you said John, vampires are not (traditionally) hot people with sparkly skin who don’t eat people - that’s the antithesis of what they are at their core they are murd3rers and you aren’t supposed to have warm fuzzy feelings towards them
Ann Rice completely reinvented the vampire. Pretty much everything we know of modern vampire lure comes from her.
I doubt that.

You can’t read pedo into everything- it’s a movie - and a good one at that.
