I think it's Rambo's model that makes this charming in a weird way: He looks so goofy and out of place, it's like Kirby going through Call of Duty.
Take 1 part Stallone with 3 parts Wiseau and BOOM!! Instant Rambo model!

This game accurately portrays the Viet Cong's strategy of running to within 6 feet of the enemy's cover and stopping to stand there or standing up from their own cover to expose their entire upper bodies. No wonder the Americans never had a chance.

Rambo is basically "Everyone on planet earth all decide to beat down this one Vet from Vietnam to absurd lengths" the series
If there is one good thing about this game, it helped convince Teyon to actually make a pretty damn decent Terminator FPS in 2019! Apparently Angry Joe's review of Rambo was a major inspiration reference for the devs.
It's amazing how listening to constructive criticism helps you get better.

The irony is that Rambo would soon be in Mortal Kombat 11 and actually has Stallone reprise his role.
I like that they only had one specific texture of Rambo's shirt when he's shot so that means every single police officer in the town of Hope, Washington can shoot at a man's heart with perfect accuracy.

For anyone who hasn't played the game -- and really, why the hell would you? -- here's a fun fact:
After you complete the first level, you unlock a perk that, when equipped, automatically passes every QTE that appears on-screen, even if you aren't pressing any buttons at all. That prison escape scene at the beginning of the second level? You'll be sitting there, watching the game go into auto-pilot even as it's blatly informing you that you're failing every QTE that comes up.
The developers gave so little of a fuck about the game that they pretty much just went "look, we both know this game is shit so here's an option to just skip all this pointless crap."
Really enjoyed the video. David Morrell, the creator of Rambo and author of the First Blood novel, actually wrote the novelizations of the second and third movies, and they were different (arguably better) than the movies. From the foreword in the novels, he seemed pretty happy with his version of the character and didn't have any regrets.

For the record, that Rambo arcade game is pretty good. I played it at Dave&Busters once. Didn’t get far but I’d recommend.
I was kinda hoping the Saving... icons would move to the other side of the screen and make it impossible to see.

My grandpa and all his siblings were in Vietnam. My grandpa was a medic in the green beret and got two Purple Hearts from grenades. One piece of shrapnel hit him pretty bad, but the second time they didn’t think he would walk again.
His brother was in artillery, and has lung issues from agent orange and hearing damage from the mortar blasts. The rest are dead. I showed him this video.
He said being in Vietnam was less traumatic than this game.

Matt. I know it's outside your usual field of work. But I think you'd love to make a video on the change of warhammer fantasy battles to age of sigmar, as that's a story with all the hallmarks of a what happened:
-Lawsuits galore.
-Conflicts with the suits and the creative tipes
-Conflicts between the suits.
-A beloved franchise put to the torch.
-Quite a lot of greed and corner cutting abounding.
-Piss poor communication and messaging.
-Piss poor planning (as they changed a lot, and lots of time)
-Piss poor messaging.
-And most importantly: an extremely poor launch, worse reception and hilariously messy development.
It's gotten a happy note in the end as the setting has improved greatly and warhammer fantasy is coming back , so that's an upside to it!
EDIT: also, complete rewrites midway. We know they at least made 2 of those. Just look at the reaction people had.

Hilarity already begins at 1:40 with a full-honors military funeral at Arlington and the rifle team didn't bring ceremonial military rifles, but a bunch of old-ass Winchester Model 88 hunting rifles. Might as well have brought some Daisy BB guns, it would be just as silly looking.

as a dev myself, I laughed uncontrollably when Matt got the NO QTE FAILS achievement and failed EVERY SINGLE ONE
Back in middle school in the early 90s there was a typing tutor program that I discovered gave you a good grade if you had a like 90% or higher fail rate. I could type fine but this was faster and much more amusing. I did feel bad when the teacher gave me a Certificate for my excellent typing. I learned a valuable lesson that day....ALWAYS CHEAT.
To be...Slightly fair to this mess of a game, that was a notification of a perk he received after leveling up: It wasn't an achievement.
Although, having QTEs and then instantly providing a way to nullify them? That's a baffling decision.
I've always loved the cover art for the movie.

This game with the PS3 move machine gun is actually really fun.
You know, considering how few rail shooters get made nowadays, I ended up kinda liking this game. I have a soft spot for rail shooters. At least it had some interesting ideas.
If only it wasn't so buggy. And had better graphics.
And unlike what people keep saying, there ARE voice actors in this game and new dialogue. But only for the gameplay sequences. Almost all the cutscenes use audio from the movies.
So, in the novel Rambo doesn't kill himself. From what I remember he is shot multiple times and at the end Troutman puts him out of his misery. Its been a while since I read it but he definitely doesn't kill himself in the novel.

Rambo Vs the Nine Icons of Saving
I saw some extras with First Blood and the actual reason they didn't want Rambo to die in the first movie was because PTSD was still a relatively new/undiscovered thing and they didn't want a bunch of veterans seeing someone they can identify with to think the best way out is to kill themselves.
To me, that's some pretty solid reasoning to change that character's ending from the book.

So machine guns as in 240B M60s actually don't take too long to load less then 6 seconds if your gun team is good even less. The annoying part is making sure the rounds are seated properly if not malfunctions all day
Please more Rambo, this has been quite entertaining thus far, maybe try to fix that "Save Icon" glitch so you can play this trainwreck without having technical oddities to distract you from doing so.
Dude!!!! Same with the Rambo cartoon show! I had the VHS and used to watch it constantly. Then my dad showed me First Blood... and yeah that was a bit different...

Do Not watch Rambo Last Blood! It's astounding how BAD it is. I love the Rambo series, especially the "New" Rambo. But I'm embarrassed by what I saw in Last Blood. Just.....just so, so awful.

I have this game and it's pretty fun but I am partial to on-rails shooters.
I guess John and Delmar just didn't give a fuck about their other teammate that was executed just before they broke out, or all those others that were tortured to death offscreen. They don't seem the least bit upset, as they're cracking wise within seconds after breaking out.
The next game should be Balbo the video game where you punch QTE sequences
You know what? This might be an unpopular opinion, but I think they really put quite some effort and passion into this. This game feels like a "lots of effort and passion, but not enough time / budget / skill". Technically this game could've been a nice diversion from the classic fps shooters, it just wasn't ready for release and needed a LOT more polishing, both in art and gameplay.
Brownie points for remembering David Caruso was in First Blood.
