In The novel, it get explained that to get the skill of a shield permanently even whitout it equiped , he have to wear it a certain amount of time. Thats why he leave the new shield on when he go to sleep. Also he wear the book shield to not be recognize as shield hero

The seed part is part of the main plot/story, the hot spring part is one of the extra bonus chapter of 3 to 7 pages at the end of a volume.
It's not that the Spear didn't think to read the warning on the seed, it's that he can't read the language in this world at all. None of the heroes can read the local language except for Naofumi, and that's only because he had to learn the hard way in order to learn better medicine recipes and how to cast magic from the grimoire. The other heroes haven't had to learn to read, largely because what magic they learned they did through the crystal balls provided to them.

I love how they introduce some of the things from LN that are not introduced in the manga
The reason why Naofumi changed his shield before he went to sleep was to unlock an ability to further understand the bio plant shield special effect. The whole shield system is explained a lot better in the light novel. Basically, some shields have an "equip bonus" where he can unlock a permanent bonus or skill by equipping that specific shield for an amount of time. Other effects like Stat bonuses are from the actual shield being equipped. This is why you can see him use one shield, but use effects unlocked by other shields. Some skills like the two headed dog shield's skill need to be equipped to be able to use the skill.

This "filler" was so good because it wasn't actually filler. The hot springs segment was actually an extra chapter in the light novel from Raphtalia's POV. So what happened here has actual weight and provides actual progression in the story.

I'm starting to sense a bigger conspiracy here, I feel like the king and his adviser lied to the heroes about having to level separately, because right now the other heroes are doing things without their support hero. They The shield hero is looking like the most important one in the group, others can kill yeah but the shield hero can make medicine learn crafts, the support is one of the most important roles in an RPG group. I think the whole point they tried to take down the Shield hero is because they want the other heroes killing without someone to clean up the after math. Causing many people who aren't in the main kingdom to die. I still think the kings either trying to quell the population letting the peasants die, or maybe he's after something else, maybe the heroes powers themselves or something.

The shield Naofumi uses is the Chimera Viper shield (that he got from the remains of the 2nd wave boss creature). The snakes on the edges can lash out and poison people unfortunately the poison is ineffective against plant enemies. It's his best shield for a while.
It wasn't filler. All this was in source material and is a part of a journey.

I like how this anime is taking a "realistic" approach to the games quests, like, the spear hero got the legendary seed, but, why in the first place the seed never was taken before? Well because it wasn't supposed to!
And now the quest to kill the dragon, but now his corpse is rotten and all kinds of flys, and other verms are starting to break loose.
I've noticed that some ppl think of this episode as filler. I don't think so. In this episode, he cleaned up after Spear Hero. That has consequences. 2nd part shows how those 2 relate normally. Since the episodes are being summarized, don't be surprised if it barely shows again. Fillers are to extend, they're cutting up stuff here.
For those that didn't noticed. When he got the idea of start peddling, he avoided being recognized as such. Remember that the false rumors already makes negotiating hard. PPl started calling him "Savior of the Holy Bird" for obvious reasons. If you noticed, he can change the form of the shield to conceal(

I liked the part where Noafumi went full Dad mode and brushed Firo's hair that part was wholesome and cute. Then Raphtalia got jealous but I think in the series a few weeks ago when Naofumi first bought her he cut his hair, I don't know if she was jealous because of that "nostalgic" treatment that she's not getting or if it's typical, " HE'S MINE!" stuff. Either way, it was the cutest scene in the whole episode.

Asuka Yuki No, it’s more Malty who does that. In this case, she would’ve understood the warning placed next to the seed, since it’s her first language. Spear on the other hand is gullible and commits acts for right reasons that have a far more detrimental effect than what was intended (a trait that both Sword and Bow share).

Now that didn't give away too much, did it? If they end it on a 45 min episode they might be able to fit 'Raphtalia's Revenge' and 'Bird Politics' in there too. I really hope they make it to 'The Bitch is back' before ending this season. If they rush it they might be able to put 'Spear Hero is still a prick' in episode 9 and 'Problems with the church' before 'The next wave' in episode 10. That way 'Raphtalia's Revenge' and 'Bird Politics' can have episode 12 and the ending will be less rushed.
If there is a next season it will start with 14) Charges of Cheating / Back to school. I'm really hoping for a second season.

I've just read a comment from a manga reader that filo didn't see nafumie as a mate and I agree with them it seems odd that they added it,though it gives an easy plot to the two girls having rivalry and working through it,but they could have had that just as sisterly rivalry which I would have felt more comfortable with and personally wish they'd done it that way,though I did find the monster thereo plausible animals/monsters think about Survival/mates..at an early stage(I know I'not explaining myself well sorry)
I read an analysis from someone which was really good,I probably wont say it as well as they did

Filo isn't human shes a monster so sees things in a very simple way that hes kind,strong..she trusts and respects him so to her he'll make a good mate,and she doesn't really understand things as a human though she does turn into a little girl,shes learning,shes being domesticated with the Crest,he held her head when she took the sandwich to make her say sorry because she didn't know it was wrong or needed to say sorry
I liked how they started with wanting to get gifts to impress him but ended up working together and getting a gift between them he couldn't afford which will help him make more money as a thank you for taking care of them..it went back to being like a little family,though it took an odd turn
They also explained about her maturing in some ways,emotionally when she stood up for him and has matured skill wise,and physically! But she hasn't matured mentally yet,shes still a little girl,thinking she can get pregnant with a kiss..
I find a bit off with him seeing her as a daughter but shes in love with him,esp if he starts seeing her differently,for now he sees them as daughter and pet? He said hes her owner!

Honestly I feel that this is as much canon as the Waves plot. You can say this is the original light novel "filler" between the waves. Yes it looks like a filler episode, but it's more like side missions in RPGs that has to be done between main RPGs.
Rising of the hero, Dororo, Mob 100 S2 and Kaguya sama Love is war are so good. This season is really a brilliant season.
I thought the second half was filler too but it's an extra chapter in the LNs, too bad we didn't get the Raphatlia telling Naofumi that she likes him and him saying I like you too...as a daughter. LMFAO

Guys, please I strongly recommend Daiya no Ace or Diamond no Ace. If you love Haikyuu, you'll love Daiya, too. It's a baseball anime and a type of sports anime that isn't really that common. What sets Daiya apart from other sports anime that instead of "underdogs," it revolves around an elite powerhouse baseball team where our main character has to work his ass off trying to prove that he deserves a spot in the first string. It's a bit slow-paced and has a lot of episodes (75 for 1st season, and 51 for the 2nd, and S3 will come out in April this year) but it's totally worth it. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE react to Daiya no Ace, I swear you won't regret it. The matches are too intense and will be keeping you on the edge of your seats. So please react!

The first part of the episode actually wasn't filler.
Her womanly charms weren't so heavy in the manga. Feels weird to have them skip some content and expand on other things. Ah well, still great.
its no special ability thats naofumi broken "stats" due to naofumi farmer soul, ALL unlocked shields give +1 or +2 Extra stats and unlike the three idiots who just wanted the higher atk stat weapon naofumi is unlocking EVERYTHING! So that makes a difference, this is the reason why Spear hero could not defeat naofumi unless he cheats in the duel.
Naofumi even if his level is lower had higher stats except atk. The only weakness of the shield hero is that he doesn't have "ATK" stat but he has very strong "Strength" stat, so the end result of that if that if he "punch" he does no damage because atk lowers the effect, but if he "grabs" he can easily rise overhead with one hand monsters or heavy stuff right now, it keeps getting crazier when he keeps raising levels and unlocking even more shields.
