Brother, I have been DJing for 34 years with vinyl and have finally embraced digital over the last year or so, I have found it to be eye-opening and exciting (wish I'd done it sooner). I feel like I have a lot to learn and a lot of catching up to do. I have been checking out a lot of the various DJ schools/teachers on YT but you are by far my favourite. Thanks for all you do much love from the UK.
I am also djing since 30 years, 20 of them on vinyl. It isnt that easy to change from vinyl to digital. It took me a while, even for rekordbox, how to set up tracklist to remember the tracks. With Vinyl i remembered the cover, with digital i needed to find a different way to remember. I am now on digital since 8 years or so (the last 3 years more regularly), and still learning a lot. Good luck with digital, i am amazed with all the possibilities and i also think, why didnt i start earlier! :)

I don't use the memory cues to go through the tracks. I use the Hot cues as the "going through the track" and Memory cues as "labels" of where to mix out etc. If a track starts with 16 bars of beats, the first hot cues are the first beat, 8 bars and the breakdown at 16bars. If there's a vocal "while" that point comes, I put the hot cues on the start of the vocal and a memory cue on that start of the bar. On the end of the track I put a red memory cue on where I should be completely out (end of bar, or right before the vocals of the next part come in), An orange memory cue at the start of the 8 bars before that point A yellow memory cue 16 bars before that point. It's like a stoplight kind of system. If there's multiple of these mixout points (cut a track short or let it play) I put multiple of these cuepoint sets. This is just my default way. It depends on track to track. Some radio edits don't have 16 bars of intro or house stuff has longer intro's etc. So there I adjust it to the track. Or some tracks even have structures that benefit from doing it completely different. I always use Rekordbox to DJ anyway, so I don't care that this might not be possible on CDJ's alone. But this workflow makes DJ'ing way more easy. I do this all in advance when I import the tracks into RB. So when I play I don't have to think about how or where to mix. Just select good tunes and have fun. Many DJ's feel like this takes the skills out of DJ'ing and that might be true to some extend, but I started out in the vinyl days and use the technology of today to it's fullest. I felt like I stayed on the safe side more when I DJ'ed vinyl or in the beginning of CD days. Now I don't have to know all my tracks completely in and out to mix em up in more interesting ways.
Thanks for this! I’ll try out your system. I don’t think it takes the skill out of DJing any more than a calculator takes the skill out of math. The skill comes from having an ear for what sounds good. The cue points just help you focus more attention on your skill.
Would love if you could make a full CDJ breakdown video/tutorial, especially for the DJs who are starting to play clubs but have only really used their own controllers before. Would be huge!
If possible, try and find a club or location where you can maybe practice during daytime. The bar where i play the weekends now, I was allowed to dj during times they were closed. How are you doing now? Maybe this advice is too late for you since it's been 10 months, in that case this is for whoever else reads it!
Hot Cue was the therm used by Denon when they released the dual cdj 2000(1992),that meant you didnt need to long press the button to activate it but a fast push like it was kind of Hot!Thats why the CUE used to be red and Play green! Back in the days the Denon 2000 was the Technics 1200 of the cd players(cdj was a therm used later only with the pioneer cdj 100´s).

Sorry if I missed this, but is the first setup Memory-Cue automatically loaded under the main cue button on loading the track? And does autocue have to be off for that? Thanks! Awesome video!
Exactly the topic I was looking for.. Not only you're the best teacher, you're a mind reader too 😁 can't thank you enough for all the content you're putting out there. I'm considering buying the full Dj course, maybe on Black Friday ;)

Love love love your videos, been spinning since '01 and always learn new things from each of your videos. It's been different switching from vinyl to digital but really loving it! Thanks for all of these great videos that help us so much! In re memory cues, my controller for my desktop is a Numark and I can't seem to find an option for memory cues. Do you know if they are accessible somehow with a Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX and VDJ? Thanks so much!!
Thank you! Memory cues are more of a Pioneer club kind of thing and most other softwares only have hot cues. You can still use hot cues though in the same ay you'd use memory cues.
Love you as always my guy! can u show us your dj room? and where do u have your sound insulation installed? and how far or close do u have your speakers from you. i seem to get alot of bass rumble on loud volumes, driving me crazy!! i would really appreciate it if you did =D
This is a good idea and I will do once it's all set up - completed, but to answer your question quickly, I usually play through my headphones - this means I can go as loud as I want without pissing off my partner - I have a video I did months ago about advanced headphone methods!
Hi, I don't want to seem dis-spirited, as your videos are amazing, and your contribution to the djing culture is open, wholesome, and invaluable, however, cue points were possible and heavily utilised with vinyl. Through the 90s, mainly for set pieces and DMC routines, everybody had stickers all over their vinyl. But, more importantly, before that djs would look for the thick black breaks through tracks. This was not as precise and usable as modern cue point setting, however, it can't be denied as a serious tool of a serious dj. Thanks again for your content, and your eagerness to pass on knowledge.
Hi Andrew! Following you from Argentina! I have a question/video suggestion (=D) based on something I struggle with sometimes. My main genres are Melodic Techno and Progressive House. Nowadays every track comes with a 1 minute + breakdown, and I think letting every breakdown play out can easily become boring and kill the energy on the dancefloor, how do you manage this? How can we mix around to avoid this? Where to put mix in/out points to avoid this? etc....Anyway, I hope you understand what I'm trying to say! Cheers brother! PS: The best thing about your material, besides the knowledge and experience you share, is your energy and good vibes!! Thank you for that!
Great video bro. Love your content, it’s really helpful and the energy’s great! Thanks for doing these videos. Question: How did you set the hot cue to just play the vocal or a short bit you wanted in the 2nd part of the hot cue tips? When I set a hot cue and use it, it just continues playing the rest of the song from where I set the hot cue. But when you pressed it, it looks like when you release your finger off the button it stops playing. I hope that makes sense. Cheers and thanks again. 👊🏼
How do I get my Memory Cues to save on the XDJ700? I press memory after setting them, and the USB icon an the word 'Memory' flashes on the screen when I do, but when i return to the track later, the Cue point is not there!
The bad thing about Memory-Cues is that mostly only the first one is portable. And by portable I mean Memory Cues are basically a pioneer only thing. Denon, Serato and so on are using Hot-Cues and thus can't just import Memory Cues without converting them. This might clash when you also use Hot-Cues. If your are Pioneer only then you are fine. If not you might consider using Hot-Cues and temporary Cues only or none at all.
I'll be honest, before your course I didn't understand this at all. Beautiful content! Now I'm fully digital, I get this, but I can't get rid of my vinyl. I love ceu-les freestyle mixing for myself, digitally now. Love how you be creative with these hot cues!
Maybe you should mention in the beginning that your hot cues are set differently than the default. In default, they play the song upon pressing them. in your case, the songs only plays until you hold them, and after releasing them, goes back to the start of the hot cue.
Does anybody know if a CDJ 2000 Nexus (not the nexus 2) shows the 8 hotcues you now have available within Rekordbox . I know you can only use A B and C, But I want to know if it just shows them on the display. I prefer to use the hotcues to mark my various start and end points in a track instead of the memory cues. But if the display only shows A B and C there's no point in continueing my preparation like that.
I have been LOVING your videos! Thank you so much! One question... now when I set cue points in export mode, it just forgets them all when I go to the next track. Am I missing something?!
If you're talking about memory cues, perhaps you're only setting tmeporary cues and not saving them. Keyboard shortcut hit c (On keyboard to set cue), m (for memory on keyboard to save cue)
@@ClubReadyDJSchool yep, I do this and it shows in the little list of cues on the right. Then as soon as I load other tracks it forgets those cues I set. And if I delete cues, they reappear when I reload the track. I've even tried deleting the files from traktor in case it was something to do with an overlap with the files in different programs...
@@clareg87 This is all really strange and personally. have never experienced this before. I just googled it and someone had same issue and they said "Restarting the laptop fixed the issue". Otherwise try re installing the RB software. Can you let me know if any of those work as this is fascinating.
@@ClubReadyDJSchool fixed!!! I contacted pioneer in the end (who were so speedy!) Turns out I'd been working in the rekordbox xml files from importing over using mixo from traktor. I had created a playlist from within the rekordbox xml "folder". I *should* have been using the files directly from the collection/made a new play list from within there. phew!!!!! Thanks again for your suggestions, and your channel in general. Legend 😊
Hey Andrew, first of all thank you so much for the work you're doing. I bought my first controller a month ago and feel like i already learned so much from your videos and your energy is just amazing. It's really motivating watching you. In one of your videos you mentioned a programm where you can e.g. extract the vocals from a track but i don't find the name of the programm anymore. Would be amazing if you could tell me the name again. Much love and keep up the great work.
I think what you are referring to is stem separation . There are currently two programs that you can use that has this feature. Algoriddim Djay Pro or VirtualDJ. Algoriddim have Neural mix and Virtual have stem separator,, they are basically the same thing.. I’m currently using the Algoriddim app with my iPad connected to my Rane One controller..Although it’s not perfect, it really is a useful tool to use..
Yes Hi good afternoon my name is Giancarlo Adriazola and I am going to be an upcoming DJ and and upcoming artist would you mind please teaching me what to do so I don't screw up when I am DJing
On dj equipment how do you activate a memory cue while song is playing? Let's say you are in middle of song playing and at end you have a memory cue loop that you want to repeat.
Unfortunately memory cues must be selected before you hit play to go to part you wish to play from or used as markers to show you in and out points, you are describing how hot cues / the performance pads work. I have a video on my channel somewhere about setting up auto loops, this may be relevant for you.
Can I ask a quick question please? Not really regarding this video.... I was thinking of starting to upload my mixes to various platforms, do my mixes really need to be Matered or can I upload them as is? Thanks..
@@LobstaLegs I've been reading that if your putting your mixes on platforms then they should be Mastered/Normalized or compressed to reduce the peaks and bring all the mix together to make it sound louder and better.. Can't be arsed with all that nonsense lol.....
Hi mate... Quick question... I have audio coming out both monitors and laptop and it's bloody annoying... I've tried to isolate the audio from laptop but it's still coming through.... Any ideas.

I love your videos! You have helped me so much!
Love all your vids man. They're awesome!
New studio looking good :)
Thanks, still some work, but getting closer!
But if the display only shows A B and C there's no point in continueing my preparation like that.
thank you man
I can't believe he said that carrying vinyls used to be a 'pain in the *ss" XD so funny. I'm still laughing. :D
Great video!!
Question, let’s say you have 300$ and a flx4 mixer costs that or Rekordbox professional subscription
Seriously I want to do both but can’t right now! I have 1200 s and dvs but having hard time setting up
Please let me know, how can I get someone to come over to show me how to hook up my stuff!
Just signed up for your coarse!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Woo hoo!! welcome :)
Wow, great job! Nice done. There will be time to come to me.
Excellent video! Thanks!
Glad it helped!
thank you so much for your videos!!
Thanks for the awesome channel, got a lot of my mixing knowledge from you
Great video. Thank you.
I have been LOVING your videos! Thank you so much! One question... now when I set cue points in export mode, it just forgets them all when I go to the next track. Am I missing something?!
actually, it's in both export and performance mode.... NO cues save!
I contacted pioneer in the end (who were so speedy!)
Turns out I'd been working in the rekordbox xml files from importing over using mixo from traktor. I had created a playlist from within the rekordbox xml "folder". I *should* have been using the files directly from the collection/made a new play list from within there. phew!!!!!
Thanks again for your suggestions, and your channel in general. Legend 😊
I watch u all the time and have tried another dj class and it was confusing. Is there something for me to look at to see the structure of the classes?
Can you possibly email me as I have something exciting to share - andrew@clubreadydjschool.com
Have Pioneer DDJ800 and have no idea how to set an use memory cues on it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Pressing SHIFT and MEMORY is no longer setting memory cues on my controller. Just suddenly stopped working.

How do I make the hot cue not continue to play automatically?
Can I ask a quick question please? Not really regarding this video.... I was thinking of starting to upload my mixes to various platforms, do my mixes really need to be Matered or can I upload them as is?
Thanks..
I’ve never mastered any of my mixes, I believe mastering is for individual songs.
@@LobstaLegs I've been reading that if your putting your mixes on platforms then they should be Mastered/Normalized or compressed to reduce the peaks and bring all the mix together to make it sound louder and better.. Can't be arsed with all that nonsense lol.....
Upload as is :)
@@ClubReadyDJSchool I thought that to... Thank you pal...
King👑
Why does every time I hit cue loop call it changes to a different song instead of going to my memory cues in the current song
thank u sir !
"GOLD" ❤
Your macbook looks like its seen a sesh before
What’s your dj name?
13:48 Hot cues have been on CDJ's since 2003
Hi mate... Quick question... I have audio coming out both monitors and laptop and it's bloody annoying... I've tried to isolate the audio from laptop but it's still coming through.... Any ideas.
There's a little picture of a speaker in the menu bar of RB, just turn that off and run it through your speakers only :)
@@ClubReadyDJSchool Hahaha... Tks buddy... Sorted it a few days ago.. That was exactly the problem... So simple eh? 🤔😂😂
Your set hot cues like a pro doesn’t exist
how do i remove hot cues from a song?
ON the controller hod shift and then select the hot cue you wish to delete
How can I find active promo codes for your online store?
You can email me at andrew@clubreadydjschool.com
Weird tip number 474
