I have the same thoughts about these back pressure lifts - I just wanted to win the comp but if I tried to armwrestle using that angle where im pivoting off my elbow, it makes me a dumb armwrestler who’s vulnerable to having a multitude of angles taken advantage of. The weights I’m moving to be a better armwrestler, when utilising the back pressure are far lower. In addition to this, doing weights slowly and squeezing doesn’t apply as much for me personally either - every lift needs to be explosive while staying tight. Even though lifting it slower yields WAY bigger numbers and ego for me, I’ve found that to translate weights in general to the armwrestling table, I need to do them explosively.
Hey man, loving the frequent uploads, are you planning on filming some of your training sessions anytime in the future? Would love to see some footage and i think its safe to say that i speak for most of your viewers when i say that.
I for one love these dives into the deep end of angles, pressures, techniques, and philosophy. That the kind of thing that is on my mind as i lift and especially when I'm off the table at work, or walking around thinking. It is food for thought for sure. More please! 💪
Ive been straight watching all your content, they're such Great videos. Thinking back on my training and practices I've pulled in, made me realize what I was doing right or wrong with same the people I was pullin.
That's what I love about arm wrestling. All you need to do is break a link in the chain and it negates everything else. Michael Todd is a great example because his lack of range of motion and his specific strength in one area attack the pinky and ring finger. Just by applying counterbalance to those two fingers, it breaks the chain of guys much stronger than him, and once it's compromised the whole chain weakens. John made a career of cracking guys who were physically stronger by his ability to adapt and get into positions that favored him to break their chain.
I’d love some training videos for newcomers and any ideas you have on home training. I built my training station myself and I currently use a towel, truck strapping (ratchet strap), and 2,3 inch pvc pipe to train.
I do light weight a ton of reps for overall strength and endurance. Granted I’m new and I discovered the sport during quarantine however I’m building myself up. I start at a weight and when I get to 100reps of that weight I move up .5-1 lbs and start over. Currently I’m on 18lbs rising and cupping and almost to that 100 rep mark before I move to 19
When I’m doing these challenges I’m separating it from being an armwrestling exercise. I’m basically sacrificing good armwrestling position and fully committing to that particular movement. I hope no one is using these as examples for training.
Great stuff as Always. What do you think about training backpressure by using these setups and simply toprolling to the pinpad without doing any dynamic backwards movements?
Yo Rob i want to get into armwrestling! Did a ton of research and watched film and so on but my question for you is...when i dont really have much equipment at home at this point only dumbells and and a bar and a few weights! Which lifts would be a good starting point for me to get stronger as a beginner? Thanks mate luv your videos! You're a honest cool guy and i like that! Keep it up! Greets from Austria
Hey brother, I’ve been a huge fan for a few years now and I’ve got a video idea for you I think would really help us newcomers. What do you think about either you or the community voting on and selecting a few different styles of arm wrestlers and you show us how you’d train and the mentality you’d use to beat them?
Very well said!!! I deadlift 1000lbs all three grips but pronating 50lbs is very hard isolated in proper position(as we see as well with druggie Larry) !!!so again your right you have to train the paths an die able to sustain then execute.
Great video! Enjoy your weekend snowboarding! It's all about maintaining either toe or heel edge and once comfortable the middle balance point. Not sure your skill level at snowboarding! Have fun!
Where do you rank Herman Storm Bishop Any chance you bring back the walk of the cock? That had a huge following w great names looking to prove themselves.
Travis has always preached on how having good back pressure while being on your front foot is the most important. His seminars are focused on that high hand hammer curl with your shoulder as tight as possible. Maybe that should be the next lift, leaning forward backpressure.
@@DJTechnoboom Actually a posting toproll (which is what Travis does) works better for shorter people. Since they don't have the arm length they need to keep their wrist as high as possible.
every single match that I have lost is over the initial movements on the go! Nothing compares to actual table movements I have been in a wicked funk with tournaments lately.... confidence in my strength and applying my power. its all there with weights but armwrestling movements are so hard to replicate on a table with cables and bands and its a must to keep it strict and true to the match setting. Micro movements... the setup and that one inch movement in the bicep when you post/load and engage on the GO! etc. This sport is a MOFO
Do you think, if i train only back pressure and side pressure lifts as powerlifter 2-4 reps, 6-8 sets, twice a week with 60-70% one day and 75-85% second day for each lift, 4 days a week total, with wrist heavy twice a week and other 2 days heavy fingers so wrist and fingers switch one after another,(bicep and tricep as suplimantary training) and practice pull once a month, i can get to high level? Just your opinion, thank you, love the content
Not sure why. No one here is "right," just have different views and ideas. You ask 10 different people how to measure back pressure you'll get 10 different answers.
@@dethkl0k I think that Rob is right on the application part, but I still think that people that can lift the same load but for a bigger excursus are "stronger". Is it true that force produced is the same, but the impulse (force x time) is not. The super short distance like in Lachlan lift which is barely moving, means that he reached 72.5 Kg just for a super brief moment. Instead Levan could apply the same force for x amount of time. This makes a difference like in Levan Vs Laletin when they were stuck in the middle for some seconds but in the end Levan prevailed. Laletin strength just started to go down, so lower impulse. This is my 2 cents.
Rob, I misjudge you.. thought you where all strength and no skill... good insight.. goes to show if someone increases their weight in a movment but if they lose 10 % form for 10% strength gain they prob havent increased at all at the table.
Really good video RVJ. I will say though, I think sometimes those weird angles can work on the table and throw someone off their game. Your last video mentioning that people shouldn't listen to everyone they come across telling them what to do and how to armwrestle resonates with me and is relevant to this because maybe that 1 guy in Russia has this obscene angle and body posture that is not applicable to 99% of the armwrestling population and he might not beat a lot of people at many angles, but you get into his angle, get into his groove and he destroys you and I think there is merit in that. He could develop a game based all on that angle and move. Will it make him better than most people or able to beat anyone? Probably not. That's just my 2 cents.
RVJ: not the hero we deserve, but the hero we need. Thanks for this video. Keep it grounded while the rest spiral off into la la land of weird lifts.
I'll always watch Bowen, but it's refreshing to have an anti-Bowen channel out there now, philosophically. You're grounded in realism. Good stuff Rob.
Rvj on a rampage i love it
You are the Champ, loving all the content. We need a RVJ vs Blue match.
for what? for fun i take it
I would rather wanna see RVJ vs Paul Linn or Daniel Mosier
Ryan Bowen doesn't have a chance.
Ryan bowen is a joke.. RVJ would kill Ryan.
Won't be a match lol. Blue is years away from RVJs level.
I'm very surprised at how well armwrestlers do a great job in explaining and teaching. Hutchings, Bageant, and RVD are a pleasure to listen to
Damn that's really helpful "chase efficiency not numbers"
I love the videos. No needless hype, just practical and useful info from someone who knows what they're talking about. Thanks RVJ!

Very true. Armwrestling is too dynamic to be measured with numbers. Nonetheless, its still fun to compare specific exercises with other pullers.

Hi sir. Is backpressure in a hook always a dragging motion using the lat muscles as opposed to the posting style for toproll?
Hey Champ ! Can you make a video about what an armwrestling workout should look like and which exercises should we focus on for hook toproll etc.
I wanted to comment if he could casually film his entire workout that he does in a day.
