@@blackhatch46 it ties the drivetrain and diff together making them a single rigid unit, which is why the trans doesn’t have a separate mount, and the driveshaft doesn’t need a flex joint or isolator rubber.
TH-camrs are not representative of your typical k-swap enthusiasts, these guys are sponsored and earn money by doing these things as content. One can k-swap and just put a cam, exhaust, and tune on it. Just like other swaps, some might need new drivetrain, some might just need adapters. No need to go for a 30k build.
In my experience, with swaps you either spend the money up front on a motor that makes dummy power out of the box (LS, jz, etc) or you spend it on the back end in supporting mods.
Plenty of aftermarkets make those front diff carrier bushings for that exact 8.8. From stock rubber to whatever durometer poly your want, even solid delrin/aluminum. Best reason to have the most common diff in North America are that every single part of it is easy to find.
Really bad decision into deleting that "bar" from a FD or miata chassis! The PPF (power plant frame) is the key to keeping the rigidity of the chassis. Even Gm used this technology in the c4 corvette for a reason.. They could have used a Dana 44HD from a corvette or a viper and still keep the PPF in place. What he removed from his FD was a torque arm due to being modified before. I would run some braces underneath the body. I am an FD owner btw
12:42 I legitimately thought Ben was going to turn to the FedEx guy in this shot, because it turned out he's an expert in Ford-swapping K-swapped RX7's.
Alternative is an oil water separator. Looks exactly like a catch can, but with extra coolant lines and an oil return line. Vaporizes everything but oil, and feeds it back in the intake. Clean engine oil would drain back into the sump. Zero maintenance, and reduced oil loss. Downside is it's more expensive than a catch can.
Usually issues arises more when changing to a vented setup, especially if routed incorrectly. A simple non-vented catch can shouldn't affect your setup, but of course will not be as effective at cleaning air from oil than a vented setup. For most street applications that still should be more than enough.
The PowerPlant Frame on the Miata and RX7 ties the drivetrain and diff together to make it a single unit, which is why they don’t use a separate transmission mount, and don’t need any type of rubber in the driveshaft, or sliding joints or anything like that. I was also surprised recently to learn that newer Camaros use a similar PPF assembly.
It's also like the second suspension mod F body owners do. There is a reason for the power bar. Ditching it is like saying "oh I can street drive with out sway bars" 😂
Thanks for giving MCM some competition, absolutely epic as always. Thanks for always providing educational content that makes me want to work on my own crappy 'cool jdm' cars
I had a Volvo C30 for years, and that power steering pump leak is a common issue. I just cleaned it up and checked the fluid regularly. Never had any real issues from it.
This video was such a trip. A nice , enjoyable Saturday morning trip. Great watch and fully looking forward to the next video. Let’s see what the other Ben is up to with his s10k
Now I understand why Restoration guys simply swap of after market alternatives, it's Hard AF to keep a car stock if it's more than 10 years old. Once you run out of car shops on town, you start to go to the junkyard hoping someone took care of that 30 years old part you need xD
The problem is vent to atmosphere puts the “oily” air back in the engine. A return system will burn it off naturally. The reason to do in a race car is the amount of burn off can be very high and cause issues, since blow by rate is proportional to load. For DI cars, I’d argue catch cans are a bit more important, since there’s no way to clean the valves. For port injected cars, the spot is washed off by fuel anyway, so not a big deal.
Should put the old subframe and whatnot to make it a roller. Racked car =$$ if yours is doing nothing for a week make it a roller so he can still make money off that rack spot in the mean time. Imho.
kinda surprised you used a felpro valve cover gasket. I've had them leak on k series and now will only use an oem gasket and they're only $20 from Honda anyways.. and black to match
Are you still doing the track day mr2 spyder because I like that series if not can you please make a update video about it and the other cars like the s2000 the 2 evo idk if you still have the Subaru
So, any news on Ben's Turbo Camaro? Sorry you didn't have all the parts come in, it'll be nice to drive the RX7 without worrying about the rear end trashing itself.
If you want power steering I don’t know for aftermarket but there are full electric power steering where you have no fluid and no pump. Your f150 comes stock with electric power steering
Not precisely. It's still fluid based. Just self contained. Electric boosted pumps just remove the hydro pump from the motor in favor of a electric one on the rack or column.
Try a vauxhall corsa electric power steering the rally guys use it on mk1+2 escorts bolts on the rack and you can get a controler to increse and reduce it and can be bolted on a manual rack irs small.
ppl be happy we or you can still continue when the EVs take over ....I wonder how these Mods or Builds will be in the future. Good work guys makes me regret not getting into mods or builds .but good to dreams B)
At some point the OEM quits making certain parts, especially if the demand is low. The 4 link bushings on my Mustang's 8.8 are 23 years old and still tight. There is plenty of aftermarket support for 8.8s.
First would be the lack of the PPF. Also with torque and a limited slip, an IRS will in fact still load up. There is also a metric butt ton less nvh with a slip shaft vs a solid shaft. Unless you spend the money for a good carbon one.

Yep a lot of miata guys end up using a cstv or Camaro rear because their PPF can still be used with an aftermarket cradle.
That Valvoline product placement with the gloves during the snowball fight was impeccable.

A fresh cup of coffee and a new G&G video on Saturday morning. Ooo baby that rejuvenates my soul.
Saturday night for me, after a long week.
I’m curious to see what the reasons were to not run a catch can for street application; and alternatives.
Same

Clean engine oil would drain back into the sump. Zero maintenance, and reduced oil loss. Downside is it's more expensive than a catch can.
Yeah I thought the same thing. Any turbo application makes it a pretty solid choice for longevity. A smaller, closed one would be better though lol.

A little bit of oil vapor being caught is better than none at all🤷♂️
