In my opinion Dan you have a great way of breaking things down into layman's terms. It makes your videos very enjoyable.

That was more than amazing your explanation is the best..please make more videos diagnosing problems and teaching how different sensors work and how to check them and how the different systems work like stop and start, anti-theft,etc and I have a question..I live in France and I saw a lot of Renault cars have throttle plate in the exhaust just before the silencer I wonder what is it for..

    • @Diagnosedan
      @Diagnosedan  6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Ahmed Sharif That throttle plate can increase the exhaust back pressure. That way the exhaust gas pressure in the Egr gets higher for better Egr performance!

I am a master technician here at the Jersey shore, USA. I enjoy watching your videos as I use them as refresher courses for myself. Having been in the industry 40 years you tend to forget things you don’t utilize on a day today basis. Thank you for what you do. Keep up the good work. Have you ever thought about bringing your show on the road?

That was great. I'm an electronics engineer and computer scientist and have even built RC Airplane with (PWM) servos and controlled them with microcontrollers, etc., so I understand PWM just fine, but it was super helpful to see the tools you use on a car to figure out what's actually going on. Also your PWM explanation was really clear.

@ 3:40 , reason number 4: If the turbocharger shits itself and spews oil into the inlet manifold the throttle body can close and so prevent the engine from running away and self-destructing. Thank you Dan, excellent video, well explained, big thumbs up!

Dear Dan, thank you so much for your videos. They are phenomenal and you are the best teacher I have come across in my life - believe me I have had many. I myself used to teach math and physics to high school students years ago and knew I was not a good teacher, but did not know why. I quit after five years of teaching. I liked tinkering with machines, love cars, had a degree in EE and fixing stuff is rewarding, so I decided to become a car mechanic. Watching you present your "lessons" really opens my eyes to better see what I lacked as a teacher. It is what you abundantly have - good understanding, broad knowledge, apparently a lot of experience, good teachers who taught you well, and a gift to communicate humbly what you know and do best. That gift is extremely rare! I hope you and your family stay in good health, your business thrives, and you continue to teach us. We are all eyes and ears-:). God bless you!

Getting the basics right from the start, such as the function of the throttle body on a diesel engine, has serious implications down the line where correct diagnosis is concerned. Pwm is given the complete teardown with some very interesting practical applications, demonstrated. The advantage of using a scope from this and other videos, cannot be overstated. Very informative video and so well presented.

I am an automotive technician. I already knew how duty cycle works, but I have to say that is one of the best explanations I have ever seen about how it works. I just wish you had come right out and said that duty cycle is not about whether something is open or closed but rather HOW MUCH it’s open or closed. You implied it and the egr valve demonstrated it, but you never actually said it. That’s okay for us techs. We can infer it, but if you want to reach a broader audience you should say it. I think more people will understand it better. Great video though. Keep up the good work. One of the best I’ve ever seen. Some say you’re the best teacher on u tube. From what I’ve seen I’d have to agree. So you missed one detail. Big deal. You’ll get even better I’m sure.

I want to Thank You, your videos have helped this “Old Timer” learn the new stuff and stay relevant. I started out in the mid 70s and tried (unsuccessfully) to retire in 2112. I never learned to use a scope and I got by ok but due to my kids college I’m having to get back in the game as a mobile diagnostic and A/C Tech, I’m going to be rolling in about a week and a half and I’m nervous as hell but your videos are really helping me get up to date. Thank You so much!

  • @mike-yp1uk

Great Video. If you have a volt meter on something and your getting like 8 volts, don't assume you have a voltage drop. Flip the volt meter to duty / Hertz and verify it's not under PCM control. Communication is giving and receiving but a signal is an output to a transistor that acts as a high speed relay. That's how I learned it from scanner Danner. Lol

Loving that explanation. I recently had a 11 Honda Fit with a bad throttle actuator pedal. I was able to use my PWM generator to activate the throttle body. But I messed up and replaced the throttle body first, not trusting myself. I then replaced the pedal and fixed the car. If DD was over my shoulder, I would have fixed it right the first time. Diagnose Bill messed it up again!!😩😩😩

The smoke in an IC is the secret to why they work and when you let the smoke out of an IC it stops working. As this IC has burnt a hole in it letting it's secret smoke out it stopped working the valve body. LOL. Another great video Dan. Years ago only a electronics techs worked with this type of equipment. Now days that skill is being lost in that field as everything in that area is board replaceable and nobody trouble shoots to component level anymore. But in the automotive world now the auto techs must know more that the electronic techs of today. Funny how things change.

Hello Dan! While diagnosing a vehicle you teach us about very useful information and theories related to those components. I appreciate your work. Good luck

A bit late to the party, but this is... interesting.
    Learnt something too.
Thank you for putting this video up, you're very good. I can easily follow you even though I've got a hearing problem and have to use hearing aids. There are times when there's a definite echo (especially when you face the camera in the workshop and the sound echoes) but I still can follow.
Will recommend this channel most definitely to other guys and girls wanting to know more.
And, as usual, eyeballs trumps scopes and testers when it comes to taking a visual inspection at the part(s) either inside or outside.

Your videos are so good! So easy to learn even for a very new technician not familiar with the systems you work on. I love the way you demonstrate everything and your word choice is exactly what you mean which is very refreshing. Thank you for making these videos, Dan!

As far as I know the duty-cycle is the % the actuator is connected to ground. So, i allways connect the scope on the signal wire and the ground. In the video the scope is connected parallel on the actuator. The value you got is not the value given by the constructor. For me the duty cycle is the time showing on the cope tension is 0Volt. Or the time the acuator is connected to ground. This is the typical way used in automotive electronics. Do you agreed Dan? With this method you can regulate power without lost of power. Much better than a regulated resistance like we see on old blower motors. In this case no heating of the resictor and so no power lost. Great video Dan. Thanks.

There a really common fault on audis. I ordered and fitted a new one on a car before only to find out it was also faulty. Then fitted a known good 2nd hand

Netjes Dan.. Héél leerzaam voor mij... Ben al een tijdje uit de Automotive wereld, maar deze uitleg maakt het weer zo ontzettend leuk en interessant om met autotechniek in contact te komen om te zien hoe het heden ten dagen er aan toe gaat. Ongekende interessante materie. Bedankt! Gr. Mike
