When I saw this in theaters I was on a date with a girl who insisted she loved the transformers movies. The day prior I had gotten a horrible sunburn and for the whole movie she was laying on my shoulder but I didn't have the heart to tell her. I was in excruciating mental and physical pain the whole movie. When the movie was over, she turned to me and said "you're right. these movies are horrible". And we never spoke again.
To be honest, I think being stuck watching any of the Michael Bay movies without being able to get up and leave is considered a psychological crime. No relationship would move past that. Ever.
I worked at a movie theater when this came out and I saw a guy see this film 5 times. And that's only on my shifts. He told me he saw Age of Extinction 15 times in theaters. He is the reason they still made this so long.
I'm really surprised that you guys didn't even mention that Anthony Hopkins just randomly kills himself in this movie. That's the best part. He just charges evil robots all of a sudden. It's my favorite Anthony Hopkins suicide.

The reason Optimus Prime isn't in these movies is the Goku effect. That's when your main character is the guy who pretty much always wins you have to keep him out of fights to let the bad guys get some wins against the supporting characters and establish them as threatening and create some tension before Optimus or Goku or Superman (in the Justice league movies anyway) turn up and defeat whoever the enemy is.
IIRC, Optimus never loses any head-on, 1v1 or even 1vmultiple fight in AOE. Heck, he actually beats Lockdown in round 1 and in later fights, the bounty hunter has to rely on either sucker punches or distractions to beat Prime.

I fell asleep watching tv once & when I woke up, this was on. It was halfway through or something. Anyways, there was an action scene & the aspect ratio kept on changing repeatedly, in quick succession that I legit almost had a mini heart attack thinking there was something wrong with my tv. It was a new tv that I'd had for literally a week. I was legit scared for a sec. 😂 That's the only memory I have of this movie.

While that's likely to be true in some form anyway... it was probably marketed that way to entice (more) young girls into the franchise since Transformers was largely more suited to young boys (and men who never grew up). A way to widen to their demographic and customer base beyond just being PG rated
That being said, Megan Fox's character has still been the most interesting and useful female character of the franchise. Despite the way she's shot, she actually does more than Sam ever did and had a way more complex and interesting backstory of stealing cars and turning her own father in to the police. But ya know, we can't look at nice things anymore... but it's totally necessary to get all those super important topless shots of Chris Hemsworth, Henry Cavill, Jason Mamoa... don't forget Ben Afflecks ass, it's integral to the film!

I did see this movie, and I honestly forgot that Unicron was mentioned at all. It's kind of Bay's thing. He throws an Easter egg like that in the film to appease the nerds, and then never mentions it again. He slept through class in film school the day they covered foreshadowing. And most of the other days too.
As someone with a 6th gen Camaro that knows about how the aftermarket doors work the reason they’re up sometime and not in other shots is because the way those kits work is that you open the door normally and then push them up and they’ll say upward but you can also use them as normal doors hope that made sense

Honestly the most enjoyable parts of the movie for me where Sir Anthony Hopkins, I love that man and at least he looked like he was having a good time.

Transformers: The Last Knight - Sequel to Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur Pacific Rim - Movie with Transformer like robots. The connection: the blonde haired demon that is Charlie Hunnam. Somehow, someway, Charlie Hunnam is the key to the Transformers Universe.
My favourite thing about this movie is when Josh Duhamel tries to tell Bumblebee that the Government doesn't want to fight him while there are literally giant propaganda posters with Bumblebees face that say "Enemy" down the street.
I felt at one point that Michael Bay was trying to make the young girl the "hot chick" in this movie. And I was like "oh no...". Then the British lady showed up and I was like "oh no..."
I was 14 when the movie came out, and I remember me and my friends thought she was in fact the hot chick of the movie. And her interactions with the other kids still suggested that too. Currently, I feel like she was a sort of “hot chick, but, for the younger audiences, ‘cuz children love sexual characters in their movies, right?” And I have no idea what would’ve gone through the producers’ minds if I’m right.

I think it's because "Galvatron" was suppose to be the artificial reincarnation drone. But since Megatron infected the "Galvatron" bot with his own mind or whatever, he basically just remained Megatron.
From what i gathered watching these a couple years ago. There were parasites with megatrons consciousness or some shite. Which gave galvatron his memories or something. So galvatron could just be megatron cause hes one of the weird transformers
Something I found in this movie is how it always felt like there was a scene missing. Like in dreams when you start in the middle, but applied to a movie where characters, tech, establishing shots, nothing that introduces anything exists. That friend of Cade’s says _”I found Optimus”_ when there wasn’t a scene that showed that. It just had Optimus and that guy running through the hill
One of the most underrated things about this movie is this one shot at 4:15 that features a row of soldiers from either World War 1 or World War 2, with a big old Ironhide just lazily photoshopped in like the soldiers can’t even see him, they’re trudging along, he’s just striking up a stoic pose and he clearly has the exact same parts as the version of him that transforms into a modern pickup truck. OH and Optimus Prime standing and striking up a pose right in the middle of a hundreds of years old napoleonic war battle, as the version of himself that turns into a semi-truck. Hundreds of years ago. And he appears to… have a cannon sitting on his shoulders Seriously, not even the prop designers gave a shit about this movie, this is quite possibly one of the worst blockbuster films in existence. In cinema history, this might be the worst one ever.
This movie was on at my house while I was doing housework and i hear my dad say "It must be embarrassing for an actor of his caliber to have to act like that" So naturally I wanted to see which high caliber actor that transformers somehow got because they got some real high caliber actors.... ...it was mark Wahlberg. Lol what the hell. It was the scene with the baby dinos in the junkyard.
I remember these movies being bad, but the barrage of every single one being reviewed over an afternoon has made me realize how bad they actually were. I appreciate you guys suffering through all of them. This has been a lot of fun watching this series. I laughed, I raged, I yelled, and I might have cried. Lol.

I was in France when this movie was about to release and there was a really big ad campaign over there for it, and I thought Hot Rod’s accent was to appeal to the market like AOE’s China scenes, but according to this video and the wiki he’s not got the accent there and that’s not even why they added it. Baffling shit.

@@AB-pg1mi The XMen movies aren't nearly as bad. The problems started with First Class which felt like it was supposed to be a reboot, but then DOFP tied it to the originals. After that I think they just accepted how screwed up the continuity was and stopped trying to fix it instead just making everything stand alone.
I kinda enjoyed the first one, I also really like the design of the robots. But as movies they are not great. I also think the robots gets to little time to grow as characters.

Bay's problem is he uses his signature style of pretty angles, highly dynamic motion and lighting, and loud colour correction, which is good for action and establishing scope, but he uses it in virtually every shot, for which most of the time they are hugely inappropiate in some way or another, even for simple storytelling, because he's a tone-deaf simpleton. It therefore becomes headache and/or vomit-inducing. TL;DR: The only thing in his toolbox is a hammer.
I remember when he said "It doesn't matter how much it sucks. You'll still go pay to watch it." And what's hillarious is that every transformers movie got worse and made successful and Bumblebee (which wasn't made by Bay) failed and made the least amount at Box Office

I heard someone said that if you were to show a person from like 40s a modern day movie they couldn't take how fast paced it was and would probably die. Now imagine what these movies would do to those poor souls.
I remember watching this in the cinema where by the time the 3rd act started and Bumblebee was trying to remind Optimus who he is that I felt the film had dragged on for too long and was genuinely no longer interested in the plot . When we left, my sister suddenly asked us, "Did anyone else get bored as the explosions started?" and a bunch of people (not in our group) suddenly started mumbling their agreement.
@Straight Busta Michael Bay is a money machine for Hollywood execs. That's why he keeps getting movies to directing. Even if his movies are garbage (Bay movies pre Pearl Harbor, we're OK and Bad Boys 2 was fun), he makes them on time, under budget, and he has 0 issues filling them up with product placement while pandering to the Chinese market.

I saw this in the theatre when I was very overtired. I was slightly irritated by how terrible it was until around the third act where I started cry-laughing at how terrible it was. I couldn't stop for the rest of the movie. They were just falling out of the sky for like 20 minutes in the final fight and it was hysterical.
What they need to add to the movies, is a cold weather scene where someone slightly hits their knuckle while using an adjustable wrench on the cold metal Transformer. Rest of the movie would be the dude on the ground wincing in pain.

Anthony Hopkins and Cogman best part of the movie. He seemed to have the time of his life in this movie. Loved how crazy he was, and hearing him cursing, flipping birds at police, taking part in the final battle shooting Megatron then flying through the air in slow-mo😂 Only Michael Bay could do all that. Bet that with any other director with the script he had before Bay started shooting, he would just be a stoic, bland character just being there for the check. In The Last Knight he certainly brought insane amount of energy and joyness I don’t think i’ve ever seen from Hopkins. Also he called Bay a genius.

As someone with a 6th gen Camaro that knows about how the aftermarket doors work the reason they’re up sometime and not in other shots is because the way those kits work is that you open the door normally and then push them up and they’ll say upward but you can also use them as normal doors hope that made sense

Honestly the most enjoyable parts of the movie for me where Sir Anthony Hopkins, I love that man and at least he looked like he was having a good time.

I saw this in Theaters and I was waiting for you to talk about how HORRENDOUS the aspect ratio was on this movie! I genuinely thought my theater had messed up at first and then realized it couldn’t be that, Michael Bay stopped caring so much that he just let it go.
The pan and scan treatment on this was like watching a puppy fumble around in an ikea shipping box

I felt at one point that Michael Bay was trying to make the young girl the "hot chick" in this movie. And I was like "oh no...". Then the British lady showed up and I was like "oh no..."
I was 14 when the movie came out, and I remember me and my friends thought she was in fact the hot chick of the movie. And her interactions with the other kids still suggested that too. Currently, I feel like she was a sort of “hot chick, but, for the younger audiences, ‘cuz children love sexual characters in their movies, right?” And I have no idea what would’ve gone through the producers’ minds if I’m right.

I think it's because "Galvatron" was suppose to be the artificial reincarnation drone. But since Megatron infected the "Galvatron" bot with his own mind or whatever, he basically just remained Megatron.
From what i gathered watching these a couple years ago. There were parasites with megatrons consciousness or some shite. Which gave galvatron his memories or something. So galvatron could just be megatron cause hes one of the weird transformers

Something I found in this movie is how it always felt like there was a scene missing. Like in dreams when you start in the middle, but applied to a movie where characters, tech, establishing shots, nothing that introduces anything exists. That friend of Cade’s says _”I found Optimus”_ when there wasn’t a scene that showed that. It just had Optimus and that guy running through the hill

One of the most underrated things about this movie is this one shot at 4:15 that features a row of soldiers from either World War 1 or World War 2, with a big old Ironhide just lazily photoshopped in like the soldiers can’t even see him, they’re trudging along, he’s just striking up a stoic pose and he clearly has the exact same parts as the version of him that transforms into a modern pickup truck.
OH and Optimus Prime standing and striking up a pose right in the middle of a hundreds of years old napoleonic war battle, as the version of himself that turns into a semi-truck. Hundreds of years ago. And he appears to… have a cannon sitting on his shoulders
Seriously, not even the prop designers gave a shit about this movie, this is quite possibly one of the worst blockbuster films in existence. In cinema history, this might be the worst one ever.

I was in France when this movie was about to release and there was a really big ad campaign over there for it, and I thought Hot Rod’s accent was to appeal to the market like AOE’s China scenes, but according to this video and the wiki he’s not got the accent there and that’s not even why they added it. Baffling shit.

@@AB-pg1mi The XMen movies aren't nearly as bad. The problems started with First Class which felt like it was supposed to be a reboot, but then DOFP tied it to the originals. After that I think they just accepted how screwed up the continuity was and stopped trying to fix it instead just making everything stand alone.
I kinda enjoyed the first one, I also really like the design of the robots. But as movies they are not great. I also think the robots gets to little time to grow as characters.
This is the only Transformers movie I've never watched. For now, I'll keep it that way.

Bay's problem is he uses his signature style of pretty angles, highly dynamic motion and lighting, and loud colour correction, which is good for action and establishing scope, but he uses it in virtually every shot, for which most of the time they are hugely inappropiate in some way or another, even for simple storytelling, because he's a tone-deaf simpleton. It therefore becomes headache and/or vomit-inducing.
TL;DR: The only thing in his toolbox is a hammer.
I remember when he said "It doesn't matter how much it sucks. You'll still go pay to watch it." And what's hillarious is that every transformers movie got worse and made successful and Bumblebee (which wasn't made by Bay) failed and made the least amount at Box Office

I remember watching this in the cinema where by the time the 3rd act started and Bumblebee was trying to remind Optimus who he is that I felt the film had dragged on for too long and was genuinely no longer interested in the plot . When we left, my sister suddenly asked us, "Did anyone else get bored as the explosions started?" and a bunch of people (not in our group) suddenly started mumbling their agreement.

@Straight Busta Michael Bay is a money machine for Hollywood execs. That's why he keeps getting movies to directing. Even if his movies are garbage (Bay movies pre Pearl Harbor, we're OK and Bad Boys 2 was fun), he makes them on time, under budget, and he has 0 issues filling them up with product placement while pandering to the Chinese market.

I saw this in the theatre when I was very overtired. I was slightly irritated by how terrible it was until around the third act where I started cry-laughing at how terrible it was. I couldn't stop for the rest of the movie. They were just falling out of the sky for like 20 minutes in the final fight and it was hysterical.
What they need to add to the movies, is a cold weather scene where someone slightly hits their knuckle while using an adjustable wrench on the cold metal Transformer. Rest of the movie would be the dude on the ground wincing in pain.

The transformation in Age of Extinction where the humans fly over the overpass and get caught and are fine is something I objected to *in a test screening* of the film.
The studio rep mocked me, saying I wanted the humans to die.

Anthony Hopkins and Cogman best part of the movie. He seemed to have the time of his life in this movie. Loved how crazy he was, and hearing him cursing, flipping birds at police, taking part in the final battle shooting Megatron then flying through the air in slow-mo😂 Only Michael Bay could do all that. Bet that with any other director with the script he had before Bay started shooting, he would just be a stoic, bland character just being there for the check. In The Last Knight he certainly brought insane amount of energy and joyness I don’t think i’ve ever seen from Hopkins. Also he called Bay a genius.
Thankfully this franchise has been rebooted with Bumblebee
