I saw Live Aid live on tv in 1985. Was about to go to bed. Then Queen came on. What a worthwhile experience to stay up for. What is also amazing is there was no special effects, bells or whistles needed to show what an awesome band Queen is. Love this still to this day. Freddie Mercury was such an awesome talented person. The rest of the band were awesome to.

Heres the thing, of course Queen at live aid is going to be #1, there is no other performance in the world that beats that. While the music is of course top tier, it is impossible to describe the impact of that performance. Even today 37 years later, the look is iconic, the music is iconic, the location is iconic, but the last straw here is the "Eh Oh". It has become so impactful that anytime any artist performs as Wembley or anywhere around the world, the chance for them to recreate that iconic moment is extremely high. It builds such a great energy and gets the entire audience involved. Artists from BTS to Green Day still to this day do it as an ode to this performance that changed the course of live music. Thank you Freddie Mercury.
Michael Jackson at the Super Bowl and Motown 25 and Beyonce headlining Coachella are some of the best live performances ever! Elvis's comeback special, Adele's concert at Royal Albert Hall, there are so many.
Freddie was having problems with his vocal chords going into Live Aid. The crowd was not a typical "Queen" crowd. The crowd became a typical Queen crowd rather quickly. The Live Aid set caused record shops to become flooded with shoppers looking for any, and all Queen albums. There's a reason why they were the band who first figured out how to come out of stadium shows making a profit. They were one of the only acts on that day who had prior experience playing to massive crowds. Then they manipulated the sound board (that was one of the few factually correct things in 'Bohemian Rhapsody') so they would be louder than everyone else. And the rest is history.
yeh, imo, no question that outdoes the venue chosen for the list! That's one of the main reasons I see this list as being America's top performances, with a few token others thrown in, rather than a genuine list
Great list! If there’s ever a follow up, Black Sabbath live in Paris 1970 is absolutely amazing! It’s one of their greatest performances. So much power and energy!
Freddie died when I was way to young and had never heard of queen. Now they are one of my favorite bands. I would have given anything to have been able to see them at live aid
Great list! Watching Freddie at Live Aid is always amazing, I could only imagine what it was like to be there. I don’t think I could put any of my favorite concerts in a list. My favorite concerts I’ve attended are…. Metallica/Guns N Roses - LA - 1992 Nine Inch Nails - Anaheim - 2000 Tool - LA - 2002 Up in Smoke Tour - Anaheim - 2000
Stevie Nick's is just quite simply incredible. I've since her in concert back in 2009 and she is amazing. The kindest person too... 💗 💖 I met her back stage and she was incredibly generous.
The Depeche Mode 101 concert should be mentioned. An english electronic group, playing in front of 70.000 fans at the Rose Bowl Stadium Pasadena. In the 80s that was unbelievable. Only rock bands could fill a stadium at that time.
I would have thought that Pink Floyd at Earl's Court during their 1980-81 tour for The Wall or at least Roger Waters' 2010-13 tour for The Wall's 30th anniversary would've been on here, but I won't deny with Queen at Live Aid is definitely deserving of #1
I saw Waters in 98 with about 5k ppl in attendance, It was magical, but as much as I love Pink Floyd, from all their shows/stuff, none really come to my mind as an Outstanding Performance. They actually had a lot of sound problems all across their prime in the 70's and the last tour, Pulse, ok it was gigantic but It was a well oiled machine and not really one great show. If Pompeii would had been in front of a crowd, It would had been on this list for sure. Honorable mentions to 3 Floyd related show though, Waters Live at Berlin after the wall felt; Gilmour's Live at Dansk and Floyd's show in Venice in 88 which was out of the ordinary in every way.
I dunno if they ever reached top 10 ever performance wise. Maybe the greatest album ever though in Dark Side! Something like Bruce and the e Street band Barcelona 2002, they've never had a crowd in their grips like that.
I've seen my share of concerts mostly live and quite a few on the screen. All I can say is actually being there is better than watching it on screen. While most of the acts put on a decent show there were some you could tell they were just going through the motions. Either for the money, or contractual obligations. Then there were some truly great shows that didn't fail to disappoint. Queen never failed, regardless of venue. Live Aid was phenomenal but just a condensed version of what they could do. ELO did the World Series of Rock with a hell of a stage presence. I missed that one, but when I did see them in the early 80's, despite no orchestra, did a fine good job. Lastly, Kiss. This was a live you did not want to miss. Make up/ no make up. Absolutely pure rock and roll night and party every day. Their concert under the bridge was a classic.
Glad to see Bruce Springsteen. Legendary live performances! Saw him in Boston at the 1,000 seat music hall when I was a kid back in 75. Dude was getting a STANDING OVATION half-way into his first song. First song. Never seen anything like it.
Not even a mention of KISS? Nobody on this list is even close except for Hendrix, AC/DC and Metallica. Give the Beatles thumbs up for sheer popularity.
Perfect timing, an artist at the peak of his powers and an audience primed for the taking. It all came together when Queen stepped onto that stage. Freddie Mercury knew from the moment he played those first notes that this was his moment.
No one but Queen could have been number one. That performance was magical. It proves that Freddie Mercury was and is one of the most important people in music history. I'm sad he's not here to perform anymore, but people all over the world are keeping his legacy alive ❤
I’ve been to a fair amount of live concerts but none of them come close to the type of shows I’ve been to played by Static X. Those guys are as musical as they are an amazing show and always gets the crowd heavily involved in everything.
the viewing audience for liveaid dwarfed that though. Liveaid being probably the first concert that could truly be described as "global" Phil Collins even flew half way around the world, between the 2 concert venues to perform at both during the same event! Metallica should have been second place, but I don't think they top liveaid when looking at the tv audience for that one & how many countries broadcast the whole thing live
Definitely one of the best Michael Jackson I would have loved to have seen his concert he was definitely the King of Pop and always will be I don't think anyone can take his place and I would have liked to seen Prince's concert too it's just sad that you'll never get an opportunity to ever see them again and Bruce Springsteen but some of them I wouldn't go to their concerts even if the tickets were free like Metallica I can never understand why people like their music and I would have liked to the Rolling Stones and the Beatles Elton John and Freddie Mercury
I saw him the one and only time he ever came to the city I live in in 1986, he came with his brother’s. Even though I was only 6 at the time it’s a concert I’ll never forget
One other great live performance not mentioned was mentioned on Ken Burns Jazz documentary series was the 1956 Newport Jazz Festival with Duke Ellington's Jazz Orchestra and the Tenor Saxophonist Paul Gonsalves playing an amazing 27 chorus solo on "Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue" which made the audience get up and dance around rather than walk away and saved Duke Ellington's career.
You want musical history? What about Rodger Waters performing The Wall concert after the Berlin Wall came down? Featuring The likes of The Scorpions, Van Morrison and Cyndi Lauper among others that's the only pick that I think should have been there that wasn't
Muse at Wembley 2007 like them or not that's one of the best live performances ever. I would also add Rammstein live at Nimes Green Day at MK (Bullet in a Bible) Beastie Boys live at Glasgow 1999 Rhcp live at Slane Castle and change that Radiohead gig with the one in Paris 2001 where they played only songs from Kid A and Amnesiac..

Live Aid is a great concert, but in my opinion the Queen live at Wembeley 86 is even better. Its a shame that the show has been shadowed from Live Aid.
Other great live concerts: Ruslana (Eurovision), Abba (Eurovision), and etc. Tell me other concerts that are great. I’ve been hearing different musicians, bands and etc. Listening lots of German music and bands like Udo Lindenburg, Torfrock, Knorkator, Dschinghis Khan and etc
Does Eurovision meet their criteria for inclusion in this list? I'm thinking no, but not sure. Liveaid's inclusion kinda blurs things. If Eurovision is eligible, then yes, absolutely should be some entries from there. Abba would be a really obvious one! I don't think they were huge in the US though were they? & this is primarily just a great concerts in the US list with token others
Great list. Here's a few that I would include: Nine Inch Nails--Woodstock 1994: Although not a technical masterpiece, these guys gave one hell of an intense performance, beginning with them emerging onto the stage caked in mud and concluding with the classic Head Like a Hole. I'd say this was one of the moments in the mid 1990's that helped to make this band. AC/DC--Donnington 1991: Just a great performance from one of the best hard rock bands of all time. Garth Brooks--Live in Central Park 1998: One of the high points of Garth's career, with a lot of standout moments, including teaming up with Billy Joel for New York State of Mind and You May be Right. Pink Floyd--Knebworth 1990: Though brief (under an hour), this was a truly amazing set, perhaps one of the best Post-Waters shows, made even more amazing because the second half was in the pouring rain.

I'm just glad Daft Punk made the list, I honestly believe 'One More Time' could unite the world, just like in Interstellar 5555.
Cannot dispute this...good list
Never been to a Nine Inch Nails show?
. But Queen are definately number 1.
Perfect timing, an artist at the peak of his powers and an audience primed for the taking. It all came together when Queen stepped onto that stage. Freddie Mercury knew from the moment he played those first notes that this was his moment.
I would like to see Megadeth live 1988 Essen, Germany.
I went to Hellfest this year. Nightwish stole the show.
Eddie Munson #1
🎸🤘
Facts !
No one but Queen could have been number one. That performance was magical. It proves that Freddie Mercury was and is one of the most important people in music history. I'm sad he's not here to perform anymore, but people all over the world are keeping his legacy alive ❤
AC/DC live at river plate is top 10
Top 5
I'm a super fan of Queen since 1991, so I agree with number 1 :-), but this list should include also "Exit stage left" from Rush.
Great Video and picks!
But i think that Rammstein at the madison square garden in 2010 deserved a place too.
I’ve been to a fair amount of live concerts but none of them come close to the type of shows I’ve been to played by Static X. Those guys are as musical as they are an amazing show and always gets the crowd heavily involved in everything.
Metallica should be nr.1 on this list, you will never see 1.6 million people in a concert every day that concert was Legendary
the viewing audience for liveaid dwarfed that though.
Even though I was only 6 at the time it’s a concert I’ll never forget
if queen was not number 1 I was about to riot..;)
One other great live performance not mentioned was mentioned on Ken Burns Jazz documentary series was the 1956 Newport Jazz Festival with Duke Ellington's Jazz Orchestra and the Tenor Saxophonist Paul Gonsalves playing an amazing 27 chorus solo on "Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue" which made the audience get up and dance around rather than walk away and saved Duke Ellington's career.
You CANNOT listen to that song and not feel the energy that was there that night.
That drummer in Nirvana looks like the dude from Foo Fighters!
Lol ... U didnt know
You want musical history? What about Rodger Waters performing The Wall concert after the Berlin Wall came down? Featuring The likes of The Scorpions, Van Morrison and Cyndi Lauper among others that's the only pick that I think should have been there that wasn't
I would say that was a historic event, but not really that great of a performance as many of the guest stars didn't seem to quite fit the moment, IMO.
Not even an honorable mention for Bob Marley? He had a number of amazing performances from which to choose.
Muse at Wembley 2007 like them or not that's one of the best live performances ever.
I would also add
Rammstein live at Nimes
Green Day at MK (Bullet in a Bible)
Beastie Boys live at Glasgow 1999
Rhcp live at Slane Castle and change that Radiohead gig with the one in Paris 2001 where they played only songs from Kid A and Amnesiac..
I wish I could have seen Queen at Live Aid
I absolutely love Queen. My one regret is that I never saw them when Freddie was alive.
Thank goodness for TH-cam!
@@JohnnyLaps You got that right!
@@heatherduncan5101 Freddie was unmatched, and did it without auto tune, pitch control and never sang to a backing track!I went to two concerts this summer which were both sang to playback.😔
@@JohnnyLaps 😢
@@heatherduncan5101 aww💕
Ahola From Hawaii (1973 Live Concert) By Elvis Presley Viewed By A Reported 1.5 Billion People First Concert Beamed Live Via Satellite And Become A No.1 Worldwide Album And Most Viewed Concert By A Single Performer Ever
I remember going to see the Backstreet Boys in 2019, and I saw it live. Also you could've mentioned Michael Jackson at the Superbowl
BWAHAHAHAHAHA
I absolutely love #14 and I would've wanted to go to his concert!!!
Prince 2007 super bowl
All of monsters of Moscow was great man
Pantera
Metallica
And AC/DC
That’s a killer lineup
Honestly, I wish I could go to ANY concert--even any of those.
Before ppl just say concerts they've been to. That's a unique experience to you. Yes it might be the best you've ever seen but that's you.
Michael Jackson 🙌🏻🔥
I was lucky enough to see him with his brother’s in 1984
AC/DC at river plate was good but I feel Live at Donington was superior.
damn! i am definitely signing up for the next coachella !
Live Aid is a great concert, but in my opinion the Queen live at Wembeley 86 is even better. Its a shame that the show has been shadowed from Live Aid.
I agree. I watch that DVD over and over again.
#19, #13, #12, #11, #5, Couldn't pay me to go to those shows.
Right on
Love Prince and Queen! Absolutely great list Mojo!
Surprised they didn't mention that then
BWAHAHAHAHAHA
LORDI
Does Eurovision meet their criteria for inclusion in this list? I'm thinking no, but not sure. Liveaid's inclusion kinda blurs things. If Eurovision is eligible, then yes, absolutely should be some entries from there. Abba would be a really obvious one! I don't think they were huge in the US though were they? & this is primarily just a great concerts in the US list with token others
I love Queen. RIP Freddie. xx
I would love to have been at Phil Collins concert in Paris in 2004!
I’m a simple being. I see a Mojo video thumbnail with Freddie Mercury in it, I click.
MJ should be ranked way higher on this list ...
2:33 When she paused for a while, I thought she gonna follow it up with, "I used to read Word Up magazine" lmao
AC/DC at River Platte should have been in the top three
Queen obv. Its amazing
Acdc live at River Plate 2009
Deserves way higher than just Honorable Mention
Great list. Here's a few that I would include:
Nine Inch Nails--Woodstock 1994: Although not a technical masterpiece, these guys gave one hell of an intense performance, beginning with them emerging onto the stage caked in mud and concluding with the classic Head Like a Hole.
AC/DC on June 14th 2001 at The Olympiastadion in Munich, Germany on their The Stiff Upper Lip tour...Life changing rock show.
ACDC at river plate!
