Monsters of rock 91 I think is one of the most iconic metallica shows ever, the atmosphere they had and how hungry they were there! Damn I really wish I could be there to experience something like that from metallica live!

My favorite always changes - but the first S&M in Berkley is hard to beat, Jezebels in Anaheim 1986 for the rowdiness, Cunning Stunts from Fort Worth for it's ego/attitude, Gothenburg 1987 for its brutality, Woodstock '99, Toronto '86, obviously Seattle '89, Metal Hammer Fest '85, 30th Anniversary; So, so many. I could go on for hours.

Hard to know what the best one is when it's all audio organized instead of the actual SOUND you get when at the actual performance itself. It's not even the same world.

A special mention to Argentins 2022. If you see the beggining (Whiplash) the crowd where louder than the PA, also everything was shaking (stage, cameras..) On the footage you can see the images on the screens behind the band moving a lot!
Thank god you made Toronto 1. It’s probably their fastest, most technical, and best sounding recorded performance they ever did. It was almost completely mistake free, and is one of the best examples I use to show people that Lars didn’t always used to be a slacker. Yet people always seem to forget about it and call Seattle 89 the greatest performance which I’ve never been extremely impressed by, if anything Mountain View CA 89 was the better show. The guitar tone might have sounded weird but it had a lot less sloppy moments on Lars and Kirks end and they even did Damage Inc!
I think Seattle gets its reputation because of the sound quality and camera angles. It does have some utterly amazing shots, ngl. It may be on the overrated side just because a lot of people fail to consider less popular shows that were arguably better. It's just easily accessible, I think. Their stuff from '86 and '87 were infinitely more exciting to me than anything they did in '89.
Great list! Love all the Death Magnetic era shows! They were on fire 2009-2013! As for Moscow, I respectfully disagree. Totally badass show in terms of the atmosphere, but honestly I don’t feel like the actual performance was terrific. Still, great list. Mine would probably be very similar.
I was looking for Francais Pour Une Nuit for 1st place and for my openion Moscow isnt that good. They make so many mistakes but Une Nuit is incredibly flawless.
There are Hundreds of Performances from like 1984-1990 That are better than atleast 10 of these performances. Check out Metallica Live at the Lyceum (Not sure about the spelling) the energy of that recording is off the Charts

probably because cliffs death was extremely fresh, so they had a lot of anger and sadness that they just let loose
'86-'87 was probably Metallica's most ferocious year they've ever had. They were just absolutely brutal just after Cliff died.
