I can’t believe how good this is!

- Come along with me this morning as I search for a pair of eagles so I can test how good (or bad)the video capabilities of my Nikon Z8 paired with the 180-600 zoom lens and the 1.4x teleconverter. I do find the eagles and I’m blown away by the quality of the video when I use the in-camera 2.3x crop. With the teleconverter and the 2.3x crop my 600mm becomes a 1900mm lens!! Thanks for watching.
Wonderful video Bill! The quality is getting better and better each video!! Cheers
Thanks so much!!
Great video! Would you consider posting your winter weather gear? I would like to improve mine. Thank you!
I can go thru what works for me on the next episode. Thanks for watching!
@@wildbillgreen that would awesome, thanks!
Great one! Thank you!! Please share more :) BTW, can you share details on your bag? It looks very comfortable
Thanks for watching! I’ll do a “what’s in my bag” video soon 😊
Excellent video. I was surprised by how much your area looks like mine in eastern Ontario. Wildlife is similar, but I haven't seen any eagles in about 4 weeks. It may be too cold for them.
Thanks for watching! I wonder if some of your eagles are moving south for the winter.
That is some epic footage Bill. I'd say that Z8 combo is just dandy (it should be for the price...haha). You're going to really enjoy that.
Thanks Bob. I’m finally a mirrorless convert
Definitely enjoy the 2.3x 4/120 video when in the kayak.
Nice scenes you have.
Thanks! How’s the image stabilization while bouncing around. I spend a lot of time out in the kayak.
@wildbillgreen it works pretty good! Just shoot a little wider and then stabilize it in post using DaVinci Resolve. When you slow it down 4-5x It looks even smoother.
Thanks. Can’t wait to get back out there! It’ll be a while. We’re all frozen in NH
Very cool! I may have to start considering the Z8, even though I want a Z80/Z90 (I have very little use for the wide end and huge MP). It is just hard to plunk down the cash when it is 'just' for fun, and I already have a perfectly serviceable D500.
I killed my D500 so that forced me into mirrorless
@@wildbillgreen it may take that to get me off of it! But a perfect replacement like a stacked sensor Z90 might also do it :-=)
Eagles were in such nice light. The cold though looks intolerable for me ha so thanks for braving it
Yeah, I was freezing. 😂 You really can’t explore the settings too much when it’s this cold.
@@wildbillgreen Yes and the camera might fog up ,unless you go through the time and hassle of preparing it .
@derrickm9808 the viewfinder was fogging up a bit from me breathing on it 😊
Nice Video..Greetings from Germany
Thank you! Hello from New Hampshire USA!
imagine it with the 2x TC at 600 x 2.3 x 2 = 2760mm !! but what of the aperture?
I’m already scheeming how I can get the 800mm lens 😂I think it’s like f9 with the 1.4 tele
Brilliant buddy really nice clear video. I had the x2 converter which I sold sometime ago, mistake. I’m thinking of getting another. You can get a bit of extra zoom by using DX too but you probably know that? I have set one of the buttons on the side of the lens to press and wallah in we go. Not used the focus peaking but might look at it. ❤
Thanks. I have a button set up for DX right next to the focus button on the back. I shut off the image stabilization too. Seems like a great combo!
@@wildbillgreen Enjoyed the video! Have you seen image degradation with VR on when shooting from tripod?
I’ve been shutting off the VR when on the tripod. I know the Z8 is supposed to know when it’s on a tripod but I don’t trust it. Maybe next time I’ll try with and without VR. My D500 would have this subtle bounce in the video if I left the stabilization on. Thanks for watching!
in video the DX mode is what get the 2.3 x so I don;t think you get another.
Yeah, you get the 2.3x in certain video settings. Not all of them. Seems like only the 4k 120fps
No audio?
I was close to a highway so I didn’t record any sound. I do have a decent Rode mic for it when I get into a quieter setting. Thanks for watching!
Head to the river dams. That's where the eagles are fishing.
There’s one a mile or so up river with a nesting pair camped out there. Yeah, I think I’ll do that, thanks. Thanks for watching. Stay tuned, there’s a dam on the Vermont border I’m going to visit in a couple of weeks to check on a nest out there 😊
Those eagles!! Amazing! But you lost me at zero degrees! And at coyotes!
It was a bit cold out there. 🥶🥶
Headphone user here. Please put your voice audio in the middle. It being only on the left ear is pretty much unbearable.
Thanks for the input. I have no idea how to do that🙂. I will look into it though on the next one. Thanks again for the feedback
@@wildbillgreen Try to set your voice audio track to "mono" in your video editing software. That should do the trick.
Thanks!
And I thought the Z9 was good.
Only things on the Z8 that could be improved is GPS and a grip that takes EN-EL18 batteries ..🦘
Yeah, I’m loving the Z8! Battery life has t been an issue so far. I carry an extra one just in case.
@@wildbillgreen It would have been nice for the Z8 to have a grip like the D850 that takes an en-el18 battery..🦘
@roybixby6135 yes it certainly would. Probably would drive up the price a bit though. Thanks for watching!
@@wildbillgreen Id pay a bit more for GPS and supporting EN_EL18 batteries in the grip should cost almost nothing..🦘
I wonder if they could do a software upgrade for the GPS
