Xbox One Power Supply Issue - Light Flicker Analysis

  • I made this video to hopefully help other viewers with their Xbox One. I had an issue that was hard to identify initially, and all tests initially were inconclusive. It was only by chance did I come across a very light flicker coming from my power supply, indicating a short or grounding issue, I suspect. Got a new power supply, and the issue was resolved. Hopefully this helps people with a similar issue
    Please note, aside from getting a new power supply, this does not provide a fix for your existing power brick. As I did not find any info on this issue online, I made the video showing some of the steps and tips I went through, in case you happen to have tried the same thing. For those who want to see the light flicker in action and want to skip the troubleshooting description, please go to around the 6:50 mark. Hope this helps you all in the future.

    This is the only video that actually shows the power supply and the light indicator on it and you easily say what’s wrong with the console and what you did to get it to work. Thank you I’m gonna open up my power supply and there’s apparently these capacitors that bulge when bad and I think that’s what is wrong with our power supplies. I’m sure urs is fixed by now tho! Thanks

      Thanks for that great feedback! Glad the video is helpful. I did end up buying a new one as you see in the video, and I fully intend to open up the old one. Just haven't bothered yet LOL. I've read the same...seems the capacitors are the number one culprit. Let me know how it goes!

    YESSSSSS THANK YOU! My light is orange but has a very slight flicker, Xbox One either won't make any sound, or it half chirps and the power light won't flash, no matter how many times I attempt to boot it, only chirps about a 3rd of the times. Unfortunately, I don't have one to recommend. The one I bought came from Amazon, but they no longer list it, so i can't even recommend it. Best advice I can give, look at the reviews and look for people talking about it being quiet. Some can be quite loud, some have been reported as louder than the xbox itself! So see if you can find one that has a lot of purchases, and see if there is a lot of failure rates, and see if it is quiet.

      damn, that sucks. I can't 100% say for sure it is the console. For example, you could have gotten a lemon new power brick. But it is far more likely to be a console. Hey I’m not sure if you’ll even respond to this but I have a similar problem with my Xbox, whenever I try to turn my Xbox on the power supply’s orange light will dim slightly before returning to the normal solid orange, should I get a knew power supply? • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think so. I can't say 100% without being there, but sounds like the power supply may be the issue. If you can get one, you can try it and see. Best case scenario, you bought the supply and everything works..worst case scenario, the power supply doesn't work and you know the console is the issue, and you're out the cost of the power supply (although sometimes you can even get a refund on the new power supply depending on where you buy it from)

    I currently have this flicker, my device started having slight power problem for months where it makes a sound when I try and start it, subtle sound if trying to switch on but when I unplugged all the usbs and hdmi and keep trying it works after some time. Today it died and I noticed this flicker. Will get a new brick and see. Thanns for sharing

    Im having this issue where the power supply turns off a little bit when it is plugged in from the back of the Xbox. And as you mentioned I didn't plugged the power supply into the Xbox yet and there is this orange LED light. I plugged it out of the outlet and the orange light is still showing. After 30 seconds, it just turns off. Im just going to get a new one I don't know what to do at this point

    Exactly the same issue with he slight flicker it's so faint you have to stare at it to see it, tried all the soft power resets hard resets, pressing eject button 10 times etc i even took mine apart (it did need a clean so did that while open) not sure if anyone had the same thing but my Xbox does make a slight beep sound when I press the power button or eject button, like its trying to turn on but can't.
    Ordered a new power brick after finding this video, will let you know if this works but it's certainly sounding like it, thanks for posting!

    I have the same problem, just happened recently, I knew it had something to do with the power supply, it seems to be that the original brick has either a short fuse or its basic, I'm glad that your review has confirmed that it's not the console, I went to the shop that I got it from and they wouldn't even test a plug in for me, to see if it was the console or the power supply, talk about dodge, looks like they are trying to get me to send it in to get fixed just to make more money out of me, cheap wodz, anyway thank for your review👍that was awesome, with definitely buy a new power brick, ⭐⭐⭐⭐

    I bought another power supply. Played one day and the next I got a white and orange flicker again from the power supply. Could the xbox itself be causing a short and making the power supply go bad? Thanks. And if it is, what could it be?

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, the xbox one can be causing the brick to short out. As for the cause, there are many things, including a bad transistor on the board (or any other bad component). From my research at the time of this video, a short at the wiring just behind the power brick inlet on the xbox seemed to be a common issue, but I don't know if that is the cause for sure.

  • @fyremunky
    @fyremunky 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have the exact same issue, same console. I knew it was the power supply... I opened it, and didn’t appear to have any Apparent problems. It has 2 capacitors. I’ve had issues with power, but most are resolved by removing all peripheral inputs, plugging the power supply directly into the wall (then Back to extensions)... but I think it’s dead now.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting. Obviously, there is something going on, but looks like it is not visibly apparent. I should have opened my old one, just to look and see if I can visually identify the issue. But sounds like you are pretty much in the exact same boat as I was

  • @anthonyroy9226

    I’m having this same problem, only when I unplug my power brick, the light on it starts to flicker a lot. Obviously that’s not supposed to happen, so I think I’m gonna try and buy another power brick, hopefully that will solve my problem, cause I’d hate to have to go and buy another console.

    • @NexusAuto
      @NexusAuto  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same here. Glad it turned out to be a bad power brick. It definitely should not do that, so give it a try. Hopefully it works out and you don't need a new console.
