Hi Buck. I am a sparky by trade mate so just a little information for you. When you plug the caravan into any 240-volt outlet be it a household supply, generator or solar generator the inlet to the caravan will be connected to the 240-volt built-in caravan battery charger. When you first connected to the Jackery it had a bit of a draw of current and then it slowly dropped its current draw. The initial current draw would be the caravan battery charger firing up and it would slowly drop in current draw if the caravan batteries were fully charged. The air conditioning will work straight off the 240-volt supply. If you turn any of the lights on or run the water pump it will draw current from the caravan batteries thus the caravan battery charger will begin to charge the caravan batteries. The other thing to remember is that the fridge is drawing power as well. I am not sure if have an automatic 3-way fridge, but if you do the fridge will kick over to the 240-volt supply which will draw from your Jackery. So the Jackery will be supplying power to the A/C, Caravan Battery charger and the fridge. A 3 way fridge will draw a heap more current than a compressor fridge. So all these items will reflect the current amp draw at the Jackery. If you do have a 3-way automatic fridge, just put the setting to gas mode to eliminate unwanted current draw.

@@58chucka Thanks heaps mate. I wish I had your knowledge. The 3 way fridge was off when I did that clip. If I ever want to run the aircon off grid, I will use the Engel generator. In fact my next clip is going to be how long the aircon will run on a tank of fuel. Thanks for your input mate. Really appreciate it.

I’ve got 800watts on my van roof buck. It’s worth putting as much up there as you can in my opinion. The panels are so cheap these days might as well. I did this test on my van last Christmas Il send you link. We used the jackery at night time to cool inside the van down over summer, but your right you need lots of solar.

    Hi Buck
Good review. Its all about looking outside the square.
It wasn't a waste of time at all. We must both had a light bulb moment as I was thinking after watching Epsiode 400 lol on the Engle you can power the caravan with the Jackery.
Everyone has there own ideas. You could use the Jackery to cool down the van enough to make it comfortable enough whilst off grid. Then charge up the next day with solar.
You are right about the solar panels they never ever get to the wattage they say they are.
All the best Keep up the great videos
    Peter

Hey Buck! I’ve just thought of another Engel video you can make ‘Will the Engel generator charge the Jackery 2000? And how fast?’.
I reckon you can make at least another 5 Engel generator related videos before the months out 👍

Hey Buck. Seeing if my portable power storage unit (also 170Ah capacity) could run my aircon was one of the first things I tried when I first got mine a couple of years ago.
What I also determined and as you had spoke about in your video, was that if you have enough solar and the weather is perfect, you can input the same amount of power that your aircon is using hence, achieve a 'nil effect' on power. In this way, the power storage unit is simply acting as the 'medium' to get the solar power to drive the aircon basically giving you 'free' power ... that is, apart from the initial cost outlay of the gear itself and yes, I do have 800W of portable soft solar panels and another 200W on the car if I need it.
The other thing is that I see my portable power station as my alternative to a 'permanently' installed dual battery system in my vehicle with the added benefit of being able to easily take out at any time to utilise elsewhere e.g. around the home (when not being used for camping, I use my unit to power my kitchen fridge overnight and charge it up with house solar by day to slowly but surely recoup the initial cost outlay so I literally am utilising it 24/7).
I also see it as a temporary and independent 'backup' source of power if the electrical system in my caravan ever went wheels up for whatever reason.
For the convenience and versatility of all the gear, I reckon it's definitely been well worth it 👍

Sounds good to take some humidity out of the van before bed for a couple of hours. But with the thinking of more Jackerys I think the money would be better spent adding to the lithium built into the van and have a in-house system that can run the ac

I ran my truma aircon for 3 hours with 200 amp’s lithium batteries/ 2000 watt inverter and 500 watts of solar in full sunlight.
The only way is to have 800 amp’s lithium and 1000 watts of solar.

I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a power station to run the van off grid and have come to the same conclusion, yes I can get one but if the bride wants aircon it won’t last very long. I seen a clip where they got a 12v to 24v step up for their spare battery and that increases your run time for very little cost and effort 👍👍. And then I thought ( I know I try not to make it a habit) what about a small inverter run off the spare battery into the ac side and the solar panels at the same time. Plus you need to remember that once the van is down to temperature the power draw should come back a bit to just run the fan. As for the generator,it’s a lot different running it in the middle of the day for 3 or 4 hours to top everything back up than running it all night, remembering sounds of a night. 😂😂 you have the enough subject matter here to get more clips on the genny 😂👁️👁️😎😇🐕‍🦺currently at Blackbutt and life is good ❤️🇦🇺

Great clip mate. A wasn’t a waste of time at least you’ve shown it can run it but not for long. That’s why I haven’t really entertain the idea of using lithium batteries to run the Aircon you would need to many of them and a small bank loan as well , Can you tell me what type of solar panels I can get to charge up my batteries at night? I heard you mention it. I’m sure the maniac would love to do a video on those type of panels as well. 😂😂😂

Hi Buck what a great idea but like you said you got to try and keep the power up to it. Well just to let you know I got the 4x 380watts solar panels up onto the scenic so that I would have 1520 watts of solar on the van little that I knew the solar panels that I brought I got lied to the solar panels that I brought where from eBay and we found they slap a high wattage sticker on a low wattage panel the panels that I purchased so I found that I got no more than 400 watts on a 1520 watts system which is nothing but like you I thought about running the air conditioner to drain some of the power out of the batteries which mine ran 1200 watts so the solar panels that I up there should of kept up with the air con but noi got scammed. That’s okay I got my money back from the gentleman that I purchased them from. I’m going down to Brisbane and there’s store Phil put me onto springers so we will see what they have to get the most we can get up on top of the van but I will have to run 3 solar regulators to get the most out of the solar panels. I’m just lucky that I got my money back just be careful where you buy solar panels from eBay is the worst for people scammers placing higher wattage stickers on their lowest wattage panels 😢
