Best of luck with the GIVEAWAY! What are you gonna spend the money on if you win? Oh and also they are asking for your ID number just to make sure people dont scam it and do multiple entries but they are not keeping that info after the giveaway or anything like that. Good luck!
They're asking for ID or passport numbers? That seems like a terrible idea. I'd love to win something like this, but I can't fathom putting that info into an unknown site!
@@accusonus would so love to win this prize. My birthday is Nov. 13th and I'll be doing a vlog in Cabo. Would totaly love to be able to add your audio programming since I know that it is going to be windy as hell there. Thanks for the giveaway.
Yeah, Daniel didn't even get any blood or bone on the 360 camera. How is he going to generate the mega clicks needed with those kind of kickflip skills? Come on Daniel. . . 🤕
09:30 - GoPro actually came out with that before, when Fusion was released-they call it Overcapture (via GoPro App). It's actually still available to use for GoPro MAX as well. Just click the 3 dots at the upper right portion during Reframe mode, and select Overcapture.
You can do the "Over capture" but that's not using the keyframes. I tried it a few times but ends up in a video that's not a neat as using the keyframes. However, I didn't find using the keyframes particularly slower and time-consuming in any way, it was just as efficient as using over capture or mimic.
he does not have much experience at the time of making this video with the max so he has a bit biased opinion. the max is great, especially hero mode with horizon lock.
lol his opinion is literally nonexistent even though the max looks way better on gopro mode and has better dynamic range plus he didn't even test out the flat video setting before I outing his opinion about video quality this dude is bias or hes just not ready to leg go of the One X lmao
Because he wanted to give bad review... He said... Hopefully Go Pro fixed dual SD card issue.... "Hopefully?" Really? You tested it Liar... Next he is complaining about Screen on Go Pro... Why 360 needs screen... Wow not very convincing argument... He is not giving credit for water proof camera.... Come on Go Pro will be amazing to shoot in rain... He is a complain box.
Kas Modiya or.. he just knows What he want and the Gopro Max is not it? The insta 360 scratches his itch, and seriously I agree with some of his points. The screen is useless to me, I was fine with the insta 360s. I love to do slow motion so that right there is a dealbreaker to me! And also, I don’t film when it rains and gets wet, cuz the drips on the lenses destroys the pic most of the time in my opinion. So no, better in some aspects, but not good enough.
@@ARRayWilliamJohnson yep, dude had no experience with the camera when making the video. just got one and went to get views. no real-world usage for any period of time.
Next video: I Was Wrong About Max ...lol, sorry man. I just don't see it. Even if you completely ignore Hero mode, vlogging mode, waterproofing, durability, Pro Tune, and audio quality I still think it looks better. Slow motion in 3k 360? What's that crop to for 16:9? Sounds like Canon's 120fps 720p...wouldn't use it anyway.
I agree, I like the MAX image quality way more, lots of details, sky is blue, marks on the ground, good contrast,.. where Insta look washed out, also lots of lens flares from the sun - which you can't remove at all.
you can even tell even with the contrast that the gopro has a better dynamic range.. the insta is blown out a lot more than the gopro when filming into the sun in the video even with the contrast
Agreed that Gopro max is definitely not this good as it promises, but the quality images and colors between Max and Insta one x is definitely better on the Max: look at 4:34 to 4:46 for example, the best sharpness, the more details on the flooring, the better colors of the sky. Don't joke. Have you seen your videos before sayin image quality is better on the insta? Seems not. Or you're just more familiar with the Insta. But still I agree with the fact that Max do not convince...
Right on Relso - whether viewing at 1080 or 2160/4K, the image quality is WAY BETTER on the Max. Ditto with audio quality. But agreed, Insta's intuitive mimic mode is great so I'd say it's a draw for those doing lots of overcapture editing (slowmo and $100 difference aren't gamechangers for me). Thanks for the thoughtful review.
Righr on point, the amount of details max captures is way more than insta. This guy is not using flat setting to do the comparison.... I don't know what is he doing
Hang Yuri Yang , Relso, do you own a Max? Just got the cam and I’m on a short vacation and shocked about the image quality: setup is 360, copies to iPad and rendered in GoPro app. The 1080 file is horrible. The sharpness works maybe for everything within 1-2m from the camera. Anything beyond is really really blurry. Envy those shots in all the videos. How do they get those crisp videos. The only difference I can think of: sunny day versus clouded day. Any ideas? Last: is there a quality difference by rendering it on an iPad vs on a desktop (FCPx)?
Model3GER Dirk Röder I am thinking to get one... we don’t have a local retailer... which kind sucks... Gopro shouldn’t make this terrible stuff... hmmm have you tested on PC?
I like 360, but this review is wrong in so many places. 360 outputs mp4 which you then have to convert to a non compressed format to be able to work properly on them, unless you have hours working your keyframes. What better workflow are you talking about? They even rely on GoPro's plugins on Pr for crying out loud. The bitrate on Max is half, so file sizes are half, not double (78 vs 150). Google! The mimic mode thing is available on Max as well. I'm trying hard to figure out which part of this video was actually accurate.
Hmmm. To me the goPro max footage looks much better. Sure it's a bit oversaturated, but any video app will fix that. The footage on the right is grainy and washed out & it is obviously being captured at a much lower bitrate.
OP even said "action camera", meaning not walking around like a tourist. Gopro is built to take a few knocks. The One X/X2 I very much doubt could survive one drop to tarmac. You can't even lay it on a table without scratching the lenses. Need to buy and replace the protective cover lenses every so often.
I've been using both since the Max launched (and the clunky fusion before it), and I can't recommend the Insta over the Max. While the touch screen has a learning curve, its soooo much better than the 2 button insta. Also not worrying about it dropping is a huge deal, the Insta feels like it just wants to burst. The Hero mode was definitely disappointing (for the price tag I was expecting at least 2.7k, 3.2k or 4k), but having that option is a huge deal over the Insta. I will note that I'm forever skeptical of Gopros in general and have probably never liked the footage or photos coming out of them, I just think the Max has a few edge over the Insta (especially for travel). My only major gripe with the MAX is the usbc port being inside the battery cover, so dummy power isn't really an option, and my Mac doesn't detect the Gopro's micro SD most of the time (outside lightroom). Would have loved to have seen a raw mode for the images too.
Do another review cos u missed: -OVERCAPTURE (same as mimic mode) -DIDNT USE FLAT (even gopro color mode has more depth and richer colors then insta360 -VLOGin mode -1080p live streaming mode U can actually slow it 30fps footage to 80% in post if u use 24fps. But agreed its bad MAX dont have proper slowmotion
I honestly think the GoPro Max footage looks better. And the GoPro Max footage was not in a flat profile so it’s not an even comparison. Just my two cents.
Hey matti, solid review. Just a note, there is that same mimic capture mode in the app, it’s called overcapture and it’s the older method GoPro had of reframing. It’s a little hidden but if you click on the properties of any clip in reframe there’s an option for “overcapture”. And yeah I agree that color profile is looking pretty crushed - there will be a lot of updates coming out in the next few weeks to address early release issues. Cheers !
Solid review?! It's clear from everyone commenting about the substance of the review and the evidence of their own eyes, rather than "Hey, you're so amazing, even when you screw up." that Matti blew it big time on this one. Kinda casts other 'reviews' in a different light. Is this the norm or an aberration? Sort out the stitching on the Max though. Several reviews show it (but *fail* to mention....) is wonky on one side with objects well beyond 5m, so not a lens spacing issue. Just messed up. As it's done in camera and we have no control: Doh!
Solid comparison. My primary use case for a 360 cam is skiing/snowboarding and I have found that the Insta360 ONE X does not handle the cold well at all, though the cold weather batteries helped a little. I find that with helmet and gloves on the Insta360 ONE X is hard to interact with. The buttons are unusable, the beeps too quiet, and the screen is not bright enough to handle the light on the slopes. Curiously, the previous Insta360 ONE was better in these areas, easy to find buttons, loud enough beeps, etc. Still looking for that just-right-for-skiing 360 cam!
"It just looks better to me" All I see is that it doesn't capture as much detail, washed out. That pseudo-airbrush effect of less fidelity is _not_ an endorsement.
The Insta360 One X is dope, but as you said the workflow is the biggest downside with 360 cameras... I enjoy using it but the editing is so tedious 🤔. Didn't think the difference would be that big! Dope skateboarding by Daniel haha!
Very bad review. Gopro max is nr1 consumer 360 action cam. Rest is not anything for action. Waterproof, extra battery, protective glass lens. Great microphones, maby best lenses, great software. Not even lego R comes close. wish i had one.
This person really loves the Insta 360 OneX, I love my GoProMAX. So I do not see the point of this person who is partial to one of them making these comparisons. BTW, I bought My GoProMAX for $379.
not sure why you said insta360 had a better image.....it was a HUGE drop in quality compared to the GoPro Max. GoPro Max caught every detail and the Insta360 looked washed out like a game on the lowest possible settings. Also the GoPro Max is on their site for $399.99 even as I type this....ordering one now.
If you edit the GoPro Max on PC you can export in "CineForm" and the quality is epic on that. It's like shooting RAW on a DSLR. Can easily lift up the shadows when colour grading without ruining the quality and bring detail back into the sky when reducing the highlights. It's also better at night which wasn't tested in this video.
Love your stuff man but why do the comparison without shooting in the flat mode on the GoPro? That’s like if I compared two Sony cameras, shot S-log3 on one and standard on the other then complained about color and dynamic range.
I'm sorry but the GoPro Max have so much better colors than the the insta360 (not better dynamic range, but it's still okay). And it is an action cam, so it is made to be resistant (to the water, etc.). When you look at the ground in the footage, you see that the gopro have a lot more details than the insta360. So if you want to be effective (like you, Matti), the ista360 is better (so you're right !), but if you want to have a better image, whatever the time you spend, take a clother look to the gopro max.
Think you missed a few details. 1. Max is 78mpbs at H265 vs up to 120mpbs h264 on 360x. 2. Max can do 1440 @ 60fps not good but better than 1080. 3. you can use over capture to get the same mimic effect
I will agree, that the Insta360 footage does look more naturally colored, but you also had it labeled as color corrected, right? I'm wondering if you shot the GoPro footage in the GoPro color picture profile? Definitely needs to be shot in flat if you're going to color be correcting/grading. I'm definitely noticing the bitrate difference when I pause anytime during the side-by-side between 4:15-4:45. The texture of the cement, small rocks, cracks, are all visible in the GoPro Max footage. Not so in the Insta360 footage, it's all smoothed out due to the lower bitrate and compression performed by uploading to TH-cam. Just my input from an ex-GoPro Media Editor.
Way more detail all the time. The 360 doesn't pick up any of it and seems soft in a small window and really soft at full screen. Would be harder to notice on its own where you wouldn't miss some of the details, but with a comparison it seems really lacking.
Another problem with GoPro MAX is that the two lenses are _offset._ I have no idea why they did that. Perhaps they thought objects are far enough away from the camera that the stitching won't show, and it's true unless... you have your camera helmet-mounted and your activity involves both close and faraway objects, like paragliding: the helmet appears cut in half whenever it appears in the frame and the lines from the harness to the wing appear strangely distorted or broken.
I don’t see the Insta360 and the Max as either/or choices. I think they are very different cameras with very different use scenarios, so for me the only choice is “get both”. For purely 360 usage the Insta is the only way to go, but the Max is not so much a 360 camera, as it is a 2D camera that can also turn on a second lens and do some moonlighting as a 360 camera. As a vlogging/creative B-roll camera I think the Max wins precisely because of its many abilities as a 2D Hero camera. It might not have the resolution of a Hero 8, but it can do lots of things the 8 can’t do. I think its best feature is the Pano mode. There is no other camera that does a more-than 180 degree single shot panorama. There are no artefacts due to cars and people in movement, no stitching glitches, no sweeping, no post production stitching in PTgui. The whole shot done in a single instant is fantastic. I love the audio capture - dumping the camera into the middle of a bunch of musicians is 360 magic. I love the water protection. Being able to work in the rain, under a waterfall, in surf is liberating. There are plenty of things things the Insta 360 is better than the Max, but I think there are just as many times when the Max is really useful and the Insta just can’t keep up. And I love that screen. It is like when DJI put a front screen on the Action. Plenty of people said a front screen on an action camera is not needed. Maybe it is not needed in the same sense as oxygen and the start recording button, but it is useful, and the screen on the Max is the same - not like oxygen, but very useful for many people, especially for photos. I like the Insta, but I also like the Max. The only thing I don’t like is my bank balance.
The GoPro looks significantly better in those side by side comparisons to me, way way way more detail, especially when you compare the ground details or like the trees on the skyline. The 360 looks super soft at full screen (1080 screen, at the highest resolution option) and that's noticeable running in the regular TH-cam window not at full screen. Been considering one of these and they seem hard to justify though overall. How much work are you needing to do on the footage from each, I'd be disappointed by that 360 footage (and my standards are low), where the GoPro seems decent.
Those audio plug ins are VERY nice. As someone investing in the new GoPro for the purpose of shooting straight out of camera, having something to finesse the audio would be awesome considering I have NO idea about anything audio 😍
Can you PLEASE do a video on how you organize, stitch, and work with the files from the 360 one x. I must be doing something wrong because it takes me way to long!!!!
What kind of battery do you need for the Insta360 ONE X and how do you replace the battery? Hope you see this and well done video • Cheers from the Detroit & Mackinac Railway 🚂
Hi, Thanks for the helpful comparison. I'm looking for a way to film BTS of my photography adventures. I need both my hands to be free. What would you recommend ? 🤔
I like the GoPro footage better but i like those vibrant blue GoPro skies. The insta is super flat and lacks contrast in my opinion. From everything you said the only reason I would consider the insta is bc of slow motion and the mimic editing feature. Better build, better audio, hero mode, and easier to operate screen makes the $100 difference worth it...... but I haven’t even laid hands on one, lol thanks for the review! I love when reviewers keep it real and don’t hype
I am pretty sure there is the mimic type capture on the Max. Before I learned to do the Keyframes on the Max I made a video of my kid riding his bike by spinning around in my chain and following him reviewing a 360 video.
Hi, I liked your review. Great. I have 2 comments: 1.) the video you showed to my eyes looked a bit better (colour saturation, sharpness) on the GoPro Max. I've seen similar comments below. Don't you agree? 2.) how do the still 360 pictures compare? I've heard that the Insta 1x is slightly better...... could you comment? or make a video on that? Many thanks!
Did you try filming in poor light? I have fusion and when I film on cloudy days footage looks like garbage but on sunny days it's awesome. Also what about desktop editing? In past I did have clumsy workflow into Premier, GoPro reframe, out to 1080p then edit in my regular videos. It's cumbersome for sure, but generally I'm just chopping up very short clips and reframing.
Is it fair to compare a flat mode to a graded in camera mode? In a flat mode you're going to get better reproduction on the whites and blacks that you can grade later...? I feel like facial detail and the skaters dark clothing were where I noticed the image quality differences most.
I love to snowboard but I'm scared I drop the insta360 on the snow as I fall from time to time... with that being said do you recommend the gopro max because is waterproof? (I fall at least once per run)
WHAT"S UP MATTI..... You're videos always get my creativity going and love starting my day with them. Keep on rocking it sir. 🤘👍💪👌🤑 Travel More! Worry Less!
I could see the potential of these 360 cameras to capture the crowd. I remember using 3 cameras just to record a classroom activity & thought how easy it would have been if i had these. Good comparison btw.
Perfect 360 action camera: - Hero Max Audio - Insta360 Firmware and software - Garmin VIRB 360 form factor and ruggedness (replaceable lenses? Yes please!) If Insta360 can put all that in one camera I will pelt them with credit cards.
Horizon lock in Hero mode in the gopro max has 90% made me stop using every other action and 360 camera on the market. it's that dang good. the 360 mode and audio also outperforms the insta one r and insta one x. (the one x is nicer than the one r also). the new update has new framerates, also beleive it or not the gopro image is so much higher in quality now that you can even slow it down in the current frame rate a little and looks great. ahhh, soon as you showed the side by side it became obvious you were biased. love my insta one x, a great camera but the gopro is a step up for sure.
In terms of sharpness, GoPro Max seems to have much better footage than the Insta360. But to be fair, it looks like raw footage on Insta360 and processed video on GoPro (due to the selected profiles I guess). Maybe you should choose similar profiles or process to the same level. But does the majority of action cameras users process/color correct/color grade their footage?
I totally agree with you on this video, the endresult and the way costumers are treated is not ‘premium’ at all! What a let down!!! Good video on this subject!! Thanks.
Hey Matty, you can already export your footage with the Gopro app with the "mimic mode". Give a look to Overcapture into the GoPro App, it's in the menu at top right (the 3 white point) when you are in the keyframe mode. 👌
Fusion owner here... The flat profile on the fusion is the way to go. You can swim in the amount of dynamic range that comes out of it. GoPro's built in color profile adds way too much digital sharpening and contrast, makes it look horrible.
Personally, the major selling point of the GoPro Max over the Insta360 One X, is that the Max is a true hybrid action cam. Having the incredible durability and functionality of a GoPro Hero, fused with solid 360 capabilities in one device, is truly a game changer for me (since no other device is providing this). Instead of having to buy a One X (which can easily be damaged) for 360 capabilities and a Go Pro Hero for action cam features, you can have them both in the Max, which saves me money, space and most importantly time. I’ve owned the Insta360 (and loved it as well), but if you’re looking for a durable Action/360 hybrid cam, I feel like the GoPro Max is your best bet (for now)
I like the MAX a lot better, but I use ProTune all the time, and I'm usually doing edits in FCPX. I never minded the workflow of the Fusion, though--didn't love it, but could deal with it. The screen is useful for placing the camera well and getting a sense of your exposure. True, as you say, it's also great for navigating settings. I like the PowerPano mode. Sure, I'd love 4K. Next time maybe. As for the mount, it should be invisible. I'm not sure what caused your problem. Hypersmooth is great for motorcycle mounting, More than even 4K in the Hero mode, I'd welcome better low low light performance. But that's really asking a lot. Thanks for the review. (Last note: MAX footage works with GoPro PLUS, it turns out, so you can store it all in the cloud. Fusion couldn't upload 360 video.)
Matt, 11:12, I think you need to reconsider the video quality of the GoPro...if you look at the video of the skateboarders on the concrete surface, there is quite a bit of detail in the GoPro image (in the concrete) and almost none in the Insta image. And if there's that big a difference in that part of the image, then it must also be, to some degree, everywhere else. Anyway something to think about.
Hi Matti, I love my insta 360 as much as my GoPro 5, apart from the 2 button system, it is so easy to use, quick question, where did you get the rubber cover for the Insta 360 please? I'm always worried about scratching the lens? regards Chris
Thanks for the honest review of both cams man. I am in the desicion process of buying one or the other and your opinion is more trustworthy than all the gopro fans out there. Thanks!
I feel like either the title of this video is misleading. If this was a "personal impressions" video, it would be fine as is. But if you're going to make a video intended to help others make a PURCHASE DECISION (as the title implies), then I think it's worth either A) being fair with the comparison by doing moderate exploration/research into the products or B) being forwardly OPEN about not doing moderate exploration/research into the products. Either are totally reasonable. You listed the "mimic" mode on the Insta360 being a major factor for why you prefer it, but didn't google or moderately dig into the options for the gopro to discover that it has that feature too, called "overcapture." Also, with the colors, you mentioned you liked the Insta360 default picture better, right out of the box, which is fine, but it would have been more fair to at least acknowledge that the GoPro has settings that you can adjust as well as a flat color profile. At the end of the day, it's your channel and you should do whatever you want. If this was JUST a "personal impressions" video, then you could simply say, "hey, I don't like this for any number of reasons" and it doesn't matter what anybody else says because it's just your personal experience and opinion, no problem. BUT... if you're making a video intended to help with a purchase decision (as the title implies), then you should at least be fair in your comparisons or open about not being fair, because otherwise it 1) makes this video feel clickbaity and 2) damages credibility. Anyways, still appreciate the work put into this video, I just found the title really misleading, which seems trivial, but in a world where many people don't do a lot of research before they purchase, I think it's worth encouraging all content creators to have more accurate titles.
Record the video using flat color mode in the GoPro Max. The Max is definitely better when it comes to video quality and yeah the higher bit rate is the biggest reason why. GoPro's color enhancer over saturates the video so always use flat and turn off sharpness. All that should be done post. For me if you can't already tell the Max is way better.
Hey Matti, even though the Insta360 One X is missing a Hero Mode, the App offers a similar option. It creates a field of view that looks like it was filmed on a regular wide angle camera. As far as I can tell it even desqueezes the footage a bit so it doesn't look like it's from an action cam. To enable it, select the eight squares in the aspect ratio settings before exporting. Also thank you for this review. It's good to know that GoPro yet again dropped the ball in the 360 Game 😁
The GoPro Max definitely looks better, but you need to use the flat profile. That was not a very fair comparison. That being said, people should probably just wait for the Kandao QooCam 8k or Insta360 One X2
If you have the GoPro online account now, the Max is $399 instead of $499. Not worth it just for that, but if you already have the GoPro Online account for your other GoPro gear, it can make the Max a lot more affordable.
I dont get it! Ok, Im watching on a 1080 screen and its possible that my speed on the stream is a bit slow....but!! The Max image is a bit much contrast and saturated. Like if you drop the clip on the timeline and do the regular s-curve a bit to much and "ship it", but its ok I guess? But the Insta360 looks if I would drop a slightly overexposed clip on the timeline and drag the shadows way UP!!?? I dont know if Im totaly wrong here bc Matti has al my respect. The skating surface is the thing I watched closely and on the MAX you can see the details, its concrete right! But on the Insta360 it look's as they skate on sand...? Im I way of here? Im out for a 360 cam and this one just got me a headache! :(
I too have the Insta, what settings do you use on the video mode on your Insta...general recording not slow motion. Your footage looks great! Sunny days definitely help, I’m just wondering if mine are a little off. Thanks for your help!
Could you please change the title to "why I can't recommend the GoPro Max for consumers”? Right now its a very misleading title as this is obviously not a professional workflow that you're talking about. For consumers i totally get your points, you want to transfer the file to your phone, export it and upload it directly to your instagram stories. I have used the Fusion a bunch with the protune flat settings, exporting the files through the desktop software fusion studio and i’m 100% certain that these examples is not showcasing the full potential of the GoPro Max. I don’t want to sound like a hater/fan boy, all i’m saying is theres more to gather out of the GoPro Max in terms of image quality.
I wouldn't admit you don't know much about audio just for a sponsorship in a video. Anyways, it seems like you don't use Adobe Premiere Pro to edit your 360 videos. using you phone to edit the video is for rookies. Just use the Gopro re-frame plugin for premiere. I think they have plugins for other apps also. Even the Insta360 users use the Gopro plugin for editing their video in Adobe. Insta360 also has a free lut the works pretty good. That same lut actually looks pretty good on the GoPro also.
Matti, little advice from me as a radio person, you need to add a little bit of bass to your voice sounds 😊 try graphic equalizer (10bands) and push up the 125 band. Thanks for the review!
You're comparing the price but remember if you want to make the insta water resistant you have to purchase their $60 case. Then you have to consider the support for the product from the company, as in if the insta camera cracks you have to ship it out and could take weeks to months to repair in comparison to GoPro. The GoPro will include the lens covers in its price also. I give it to the insta it might have better software (right now) but again the GoPro will be getting feature updates and a support system. I would say the comparison is extremely close and comes down to what the user finds easier to use and what they are using it for.
I'll have to agree with you with the whole workflow issue. Gopro is always holding out on their technology because they have to create a new product every year to keep consumers coming back. On the hero mode theres no way they couldn't incorporate 4k just like the black 8, but they wont till next year to make u buy the new version...appreciate the honesty in your video!
I like you guys skating using the action camera. I am a skater too. I use One R twin edition and GoPro 8 black for a rapid capture 2D vlog. GoPro are the best at the traditional wide angle action camera and the quick capture get you to Vlog at anytime when you only need a 2D video.
Thank you for this Matti! Really been between these two cameras since the MAX came out. You brought up a lot of good points. I was leaning towards the Insta360 either way, now I’m sold!
Best of luck with the GIVEAWAY! What are you gonna spend the money on if you win? Oh and also they are asking for your ID number just to make sure people dont scam it and do multiple entries but they are not keeping that info after the giveaway or anything like that. Good luck!
Hi :-)
will buy a new mavic mini..just incase.. ^.^
They're asking for ID or passport numbers? That seems like a terrible idea. I'd love to win something like this, but I can't fathom putting that info into an unknown site!

Wow!!! Daniel Schiffer is a God as skateboarding!!!! Not as good as me at kickflips but Still!!! Pretty dang good!!
Hahaha baaaaaattleeeee!
Yeah, Daniel didn't even get any blood or bone on the 360 camera. How is he going to generate the mega clicks needed with those kind of kickflip skills? Come on Daniel. . . 🤕
Naaaaa, he can't make a thumnail. :)
Let's do an elbow check and see who wins the kickflip battle 😎
Is this only me or anyone else who is hearing his voice while reading his comment.
09:30 - GoPro actually came out with that before, when Fusion was released-they call it Overcapture (via GoPro App). It's actually still available to use for GoPro MAX as well. Just click the 3 dots at the upper right portion during Reframe mode, and select Overcapture.
Your Right, I used the Fusion just recently.
This needs to be pinned because its a massive omission from the review
Scrolled to the comments to find out more about this. Thanks for flagging it!

Thanks!
actually with max, you CAN point your phone around instead of manually putting keyframes
same with Insta...
@@christoffersjoberg1622 yeah but in the video he said you couldn't do that with the Max
You can do the "Over capture" but that's not using the keyframes. I tried it a few times but ends up in a video that's not a neat as using the keyframes. However, I didn't find using the keyframes particularly slower and time-consuming in any way, it was just as efficient as using over capture or mimic.
he does not have much experience at the time of making this video with the max so he has a bit biased opinion. the max is great, especially hero mode with horizon lock.
i was waiting for someone in the comment section correct him
Hmm but u didnt use the gopro flat profile...
Cheese on Everything yeah lolll
lol his opinion is literally nonexistent even though the max looks way better on gopro mode and has better dynamic range plus he didn't even test out the flat video setting before I outing his opinion about video quality this dude is bias or hes just not ready to leg go of the One X lmao
Right
Why didn’t you play around with protune options to see if you could get better image quality and dynamic range etc?
To my eyes the Max image looks better but that’s just IMO. Good review.
I asked my 6 yo which picture was clearer and he pointed to go pro dude bumped his head
The ground detail is great for the GoPro but non existent for the Insta360
I agree, I like the MAX image quality way more, lots of details, sky is blue, marks on the ground, good contrast,.. where Insta look washed out, also lots of lens flares from the sun - which you can't remove at all.
Man! You’re comparing Gopro Color against a flat color.
As profesional, you should film flat and you will like it
Can confirm, I have one and the flat profile is great. Gopro colour modes are junk
ya then make it best in post
you can even tell even with the contrast that the gopro has a better dynamic range.. the insta is blown out a lot more than the gopro when filming into the sun in the video even with the contrast
Hang Yuri Yang not yet. I own a Mac and can’t wait to make a comparison. So far footage is a disappointment
9:35 MAX has OverCapture in "reframe mode", which is like "mimic" mode. Just press more next to the save button, then you'll see it :)
Surprised you didn't even try the flat profile on the gopro - a bit disappointed.
I'm trying hard to figure out which part of this video was actually accurate.
i phone: i phone 11...MAX
GoPro: note that down...
Haha 😂
Hmmm. To me the goPro max footage looks much better. Sure it's a bit oversaturated, but any video app will fix that. The footage on the right is grainy and washed out & it is obviously being captured at a much lower bitrate.
One X is so fragile and I changed to Max in a heartbeat
phil Man exactly
So true
OP even said "action camera", meaning not walking around like a tourist. Gopro is built to take a few knocks. The One X/X2 I very much doubt could survive one drop to tarmac. You can't even lay it on a table without scratching the lenses. Need to buy and replace the protective cover lenses every so often.
BS clutching at straws with this bias "review"
My insta broke within 3 days of purchase lol 😂
Do another review cos u missed:
-OVERCAPTURE (same as mimic mode)
-DIDNT USE FLAT (even gopro color mode has more depth and richer colors then insta360
-VLOGin mode
-1080p live streaming mode
U can actually slow it 30fps footage to 80% in post if u use 24fps. But agreed its bad MAX dont have proper slowmotion
The MAX has a flat color profile option? Cool. I'll look for that.
BerenFishe yeah there will be updates to stitch quality as well.
"It just looks better to me"
All I see is that it doesn't capture as much detail, washed out. That pseudo-airbrush effect of less fidelity is _not_ an endorsement.
Was researching 360’s cameras and pleasantly surprised your using my instrumental on your video. Shout out Musicbed!
MAX has overcapture as well as reframe! Overcapture is the original mimic mode.
The GoPro max looks better what are you talking about 🥴
Way better, like out of the ballpark. Maybe he mixed up the tags for which is which.
Seriously, half of grafitti on the concrete was rendered invisible by the Insta. The total image looked cartoonish and...blank @4:36
Agree, Max has way better dynamic range and detail. Maybe we are not looking at the same footage 🤗 One X too soft for me.
GoPro looks nice because of the color but you can see more dynamic range on the insta 360 that's why it look better imo
Bro this guy. I like this guy but he's a schill
Is it just me or is there more detail in the gopro footage at 4:10 for example?
Yeah, looks like it. The Insta 360 looked smoother, so I guess it is a question of personal taste which one would look better.
The Gopro is way more crisp! Look at the ground😮
How is the quality on MAX in linear mode? On my Hero 6 it is much better than on MAX.
Is that Daniel Schiffer???
100%
Those audio plug ins are VERY nice. As someone investing in the new GoPro for the purpose of shooting straight out of camera, having something to finesse the audio would be awesome considering I have NO idea about anything audio 😍
Heck yea 🙌🏻
Can you PLEASE do a video on how you organize, stitch, and work with the files from the 360 one x. I must be doing something wrong because it takes me way to long!!!!
What kind of battery do you need for the Insta360 ONE X and how do you replace the battery? Hope you see this and well done video • Cheers from the Detroit & Mackinac Railway 🚂
Hello Matti. What is that electric skateboard u r using?
Onewheel pint 😊
With $1500 cash, I'd finally be able to buy the EOS R. I've been saving but it's slow.
Oh man I hope you win!
@@mattih Me too! :) Thanks for all the tutorials and reviews. I've learned so much between you and Peter...
same !! I am saving to buy an EOS R, thanks to a few people like Matti and Potato jet who use it (despite all canon haters and a7iii fans)
@@_galterius you wont be disappointed
Hi, Thanks for the helpful comparison.
I'm looking for a way to film BTS of my photography adventures. I need both my hands to be free. What would you recommend ? 🤔
Love your videos Matti. Thanks for the insights 👌👍
Did you try the flat profile on GoPro Max and colorgrade it?
So when is insta 360 one x going release a newer version? 🤔
Redd Anselmo that’s the real question.
When GoPro make a better 360 camera... until then enjoy the ( one x )
I was told that we would have news this week...but haven’t heard anything since.
Soon probably since qoocam just ate everyone’s lunch this week😎
The new version will be released on April 16 2024, it is going to be the insta360 X4
Travel More! Worry Less!
I could see the potential of these 360 cameras to capture the crowd. I remember using 3 cameras just to record a classroom activity & thought how easy it would have been if i had these. Good comparison btw.
Perfect 360 action camera:
- Hero Max Audio
- Insta360 Firmware and software
- Garmin VIRB 360 form factor and ruggedness (replaceable lenses? Yes please!)
If Insta360 can put all that in one camera I will pelt them with credit cards.
Well I just bought one, so should I feel bad about it?
Thanks.
Drone shots in Canada now are such a rare thing haha! Nice to see some at the beginning Matti
Matti, fyi Max does have the virtual camera feature that you like but it's buried in the app.
UPDATE: GoPro Max get an Update on 04/2020 Slowmotion
Thanks Matti for the very honest and unbiased critique.
Not true. Don’t listen to this guy. Decide for yourself
Question can I connect a huge battery pack and record 6 to 8 hours straight with no interruptions or system blackouts/shutdowns?
Matt, 11:12, I think you need to reconsider the video quality of the GoPro...if you look at the video of the skateboarders on the concrete surface, there is quite a bit of detail in the GoPro image (in the concrete) and almost none in the Insta image. And if there's that big a difference in that part of the image, then it must also be, to some degree, everywhere else. Anyway something to think about.
Couldn’t be more right, the insta is SO simple and the software/app is so user friendly! Great work Matti
Great comparison! Very insightful and helpful. Mainly swayed towards GoPro purely for the waterproof. That would be the only reason.
Could you say me this ? Which one is your choose ? I dont know ? Go pro max or insta 360 one x2
Hi Matti, I love my insta 360 as much as my GoPro 5, apart from the 2 button system, it is so easy to use, quick question, where did you get the rubber cover for the Insta 360 please? I'm always worried about scratching the lens? regards Chris
not fair to not have used the Flat colour mode on both. of course you'd get more dynamic range on GoPro with the flat colour mode 🤷♂️
Not worth it just for that, but if you already have the GoPro Online account for your other GoPro gear, it can make the Max a lot more affordable.
i've been trying those 2 also, and i had the same feeling, just wanted to know if anybody had the same feeling lol Thank you!
Hello congratulations on the channel. Do you know if there is any remote compatible with the gopro max? smart remote ect .. thanks
I don’t want to sound like a hater/fan boy, all i’m saying is theres more to gather out of the GoPro Max in terms of image quality.
does he just mean that the MAX can't do slow motion on the mobile app? you of coarse can get quality slomo when editing on desktop, correct?
I wouldn't admit you don't know much about audio just for a sponsorship in a video. Anyways, it seems like you don't use Adobe Premiere Pro to edit your 360 videos. using you phone to edit the video is for rookies. Just use the Gopro re-frame plugin for premiere. I think they have plugins for other apps also. Even the Insta360 users use the Gopro plugin for editing their video in Adobe. Insta360 also has a free lut the works pretty good. That same lut actually looks pretty good on the GoPro also.
What about ProTune and manual color correcting?
Matti, little advice from me as a radio person, you need to add a little bit of bass to your voice sounds 😊 try graphic equalizer (10bands) and push up the 125 band.
Thanks for the review!
Oh and the Insta 360 looks so much better
Agreed everything you said. Team Insta 360. GoPro Max looks over saturated.
I think that mimic mode is the viewfinder mode.
Great video.👌🏼😉 Thanks for the great advice!.👍
