How many people use GoPro's consistently? Are the smartphones replacing GoPros for you?

I use the gopro strictly for mounting it in places where I cannot mount a phone or another camera (usually the outside of airplanes) so no, the iphone will not be replacing my action cameras
I use my gopro for vlogging and the reasons are because it was cheap and had a lot of features. Whereas if I got the new iPhone it's over £1000, and yes it does a lot, however, I'd rather by an M50 and lenses for that kind of money.
Matti Haapoja not for me. I’m using the gopro on my standup paddle board, mounted to my paddle. An iPhone would look really stupid there and would probably fall off, so I’m sticking with the Gopro. I have the 7 and I think, I’m not gonna upgrade, as I don’t use it that much
I filmed my first ever video entirely on GoPro hero 7 it’s still my only video over on Dan unplanned I mention you as an inspiration dude! This review is amazing tho! I would love to get a nice dslr but don’t know what to buy just been made redundant so looking to get into photography

Pretty trippy seeing Norm in this video! One minute we're driving together through rural north Japan - a week later he's magically in Canada with one of the few vloggers I watch. All of a sudden, watching Matti feels like an exciting 4D experience. As a prominent GoPro7 user, the increased stabilisation on the new model is impressive, but I'd say the changes don't add up enough to warrant the upgrade for now. I'll hold off to see what comes out next year.

As a YouTubing runner, I video my runs using a Hero 7 vlogging set up using a small telescopic/tripod handle & Sarmonic SR-XM1 mic. This allows me to store it in a running belt & just pull it out quickly when I want to film a section of the run or race. The mic works very well but I do have to increase the treble in post production. And the mic can swivel to point towards me or away from me. The stabilisation is ok at cruising speeds but in that final sprint for the finish line the stabilisation can’t cope and I often have to stabilise a bit in post, although it is nice to have some bouncing to give that impression of speed. I dint think I’ll be upgrading to a 8, preferring ticket see if the 9 or 10 offers a significant improvement.

I used the 7 exclusively and upgraded to the 8, been using it for the past week and actually love the stability. Can’t wait for the mods, will definitely improve the vlogging experience.
I'm doing the trade up. Hero 3+ Silver for the Hero 8 black. Been making street photography behind the scenes videos and starting to really wish I had stabilization now.
Really good review of the gopro, what always confuses me though is why reviewers always compare it with other things that cost 4 times as much.. if you can afford the iphone 11 pro, then you wont be getting the GoPro for simple blogging, you will be in the market for something like the fuji xt3

Then it's really time to upgrade... I was using the Hero 4 Black until the 7 came out. Hypersmooth really is a game changing feature for the GoPro. Ditch that 4 and get the 8, you won't be disappointed.

@@blakeok952 sell it, get the new one. the stabilization is much better. I got it a week ago to race at the GoPro Motorplex and I always had a problem with the hero 7's stabilization. I was upset about it, but then got the 8 and absolutely love it.

Bought mine 2months ago..knowing the 8 was coming up soon..but still..i paid in special offer 275 instead of 399..it is my first gopro so i am fine with it...just learning and would love to learn how to edit videos..i can use time-warp etc..but what is the editing program to make all these cool videos?...i would love to learn...is there any course?

Put a plastic box that you can see through on the Max. Put some marking on the box. Like lines or whatever. You’ll be blown away by the stabilization. It’ll show the lines moving around but the horizon will not move
GoPros to date have been brilliant for timelapse. On the Hero 7 I can connect it to an external power source without exposing the battery, the SD card and the sensitive internals to the risk of moisture. And this combo worked well for me in Kiev, Budapest, Tel-Aviv, Macau, Shenzhen, Bergen, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Paris and Berlin...all when there was a risk of rain, or it was raining (BluTac is a good-enough sealant most times).
But on the Hero 8 to access the ext power slot the whole battery+pcb+sd slot bay has to be open. The H7 Skeleton frame allowed the battery cover to be removed, but limit the potential moisture ingress.
And in-car too, for that journey timelapse which takes longer than a battery lasts, usb cable to the cigarette lighter, with the GoPro on a suction cup and a CPL.
So no, I'll not be adding a H8 to my collection of H3 Black, 2x H4 Black, H4 Session, H5 Session, H6 Black, Fusion and H7 Black.
Still use GoPro for parts of my filming but then it’s fishing so waterproofing and underwater shots are needed. I’ve got the 8 but I’m struggling with it’s worth over the 7. Yes hyper smooth is seriously good but 7’s isn’t crap! And yes the colours!!! No no no.
1:48 - Another downside is that if the clip breaks from impact your entire gopro is screwed instead of just needing another $10 housing.
Its aluminum legs. And 4 screws hold it on easily replaced
What about firmware update for GoPro 7 with new stabilization ? Every new GoPro is just a software update, hardware stays the same from GoPro Hero 5...

How can a smartphone replace a GOPRO since you you are supposed use it to film some "action" and get durable during it? I cannot imagine to mount an IPhone 11 Pro on my chest to film one of my bike trail rides! I'm a bit concern about the fact you cannot replace Protective Lens on GOPRO Hero 8. I'll keep my Hero 7 Black :) BTW it was a nice review!
THIS! Same here, gopro is really handy when it comes to action sports. I always use it for biking and snowboarding. You just couldn't do the same with a smartphone. But if you need it for normal stuff to film then an iPhone outperforms the gopro probably, however Gopro is an action cam so you can't even really compare it.

Bought the GoPro Hero7 Black last year. No need t upgrade to the GoPro 8 at this point. Not enough of a difference to justify. If you need an action cam then you might want to consider the GoPro 8.
I just bought the 7 last June. I don't use it a lot unless I am around water. The footage doesn't look that much different for me to get it at this point.
In your video DJI osmo action vs the gopro 7, you said the DJI had better stabilization. How does it stand up to the 8?
thinking of getting the hero 8, still using the hero 5 and still pretty satisfied but that stabilization is really tempting.
I have the 7 and in most cases it's better than a phone. It's more stable. It handles wind noise better. It's not made of glass. You have more control over the settings. And you don't kill your phone battery.

The only reason I would need any type of Action Camera is for underwater or water parks, or anything near the water actions. For the reset I have RX100VII. But still not sure which Action Camera will give me best results under water: Osmo or GoPro?

I'm eager to make the 8 my "on the move" and random vlog setup, while I'll use a sony mirrorless for static/studio based shots. I go to random car events, shows, meets, etc...and the GoPro8 with ext audio and front facing screen will kill it, when adding in the hypersmooth. Just got my 8 today and I'm pretty blown away with the hypersmooth 2.0. I came from a 5 and while 5's stabilization surely isn't terrible at all, the 8 is ridiculous. I'm not using an Iphone11. I'm android and though I own an Iphone as my personal line...never again. Iphone has very poor integration with pc based stuff and the workarounds necessary are ridiculous.

Guillaume Prost I agree with what you’re saying for certain instances. I originally bought the GoPro 7 black because it was a pretty decent vlogging setup. But I bought the IPhone 11 Pro literally for the camera. Different beasts but I’m using them for the same rhing
I need help ! For a few days now I have had a problem with the stabilization of the go pro hero 8, it no longer works and the image shakes when I walk normally. it looks very ugly without stabilization! I updated the firmware, reset the camera! I don't know what else I could do, maybe from the battery or ssd? I have them for a long time, and with one of the batteries I had the problem of swelling, overheating!

I have 3 batteries for the 7 I did have and was hoping to be able to save up and get an 8. However just replacing the 7 would be cheaper than the 8. Plus I already have some accessories. Speaking of accessories, will the ND filters that fit the 7, fit the 8? Thank you!
I just got a Note10+ today, it was a tough toss up between that iPhone 11 Pro. I really am 95% sold on that GoPro. I have been using a Galaxy S7 Edge w/ DJI Osmo II and a GoPro Session the last year and really enjoy the results but want better. So Note 10+ got the win, now 2nd cam with $100 trade in of any camera broken or not toward the GoPro 8 seems like a slam dunk. Those add ons look amazing too!

With the changes to how they put the usb port in same compartment as the battery and micro sd card, say goodbye to using an external mic or charging on the go with a power bank. I guess if you can live with that, its ok.

went on a cruise and i was surprised i used my hero7 90 percent of the time. its super convenient. cell phones just feel awkward walking around filming things and creates attention.
Ill get gopro for the durability and waterproofing. and stabilization as a bonus!

I’ve been using GoPros since the first HD version was released. For my use I just couldn’t use my smartphone because it would get destroyed. I’m very curious about the Hero Max considering I already own the Fusion. Will most likely upgrade to the Hero 8. Also did you mean to say front facing screen and not front facing camera?

hi, this review wasn't very detailed, because you didn't mention that the lens cap doesn't come out so if it breaks you have to return it... that's a very big down side of gopro 8.

Except the change battery discharge thing ,everything hardware wise and processor wise is same for both 7 and 8 , The 8 is a 399$ firmware update of the 7 ,suddenly Go Pro company is becoming more like Apple.

I wouldn’t vlog on a GoPro nor an iPhone 11. Next thing I know I have low battery so I have to stop filming AND I can’t text no one.
The GoPro image quality looks way better than the iPhone what're you talking about? The iPhone looks all mushy and overexposed and of course the GoPro has a larger sensor so it has a bit more shallow DoF
I have never used the GoPro consistently due to the bad audio but if this mic is good.... maybe???

Hero 8 has more drawbacks for me than positives. I have the hero 7 and I like everything about it except for the usual GoPro glitches. I’d actually rather upgrade to the MAX.

For filming underwater for extended periods of time, mounting and leaving for a while, or for doing timelapses, the GoPro is a better option than your cell phone.
I think they deliberately kept/hide software improvements on the hero 7 to sell an update afterward with the 8 ... It's hard to think otherwise especially since the hardware is identical. C'mon GoPro 😄 also what's up with the push on the iPhone 11 pro ... Did Apple buy TH-cam ? 😄
