If you want to learn more about how Inkscape works, I have a 50+ part video series where I explain all of the tools and features in Inkscape and demonstrate how they work. Here's the link if interested: logosbynick.com/inkscape/
Hey Nick, I wonder why you used the path effects even though I see everything could be done in same way if you had not used the path effects or am I missing something here?
My wife and I just started a small business together. With the help of your tutorials I'm able to do so much design work. I was just using Canva before, but now I'm using Inkscape on almost a daily basis. I've designed the logo, ads for Instagram, and even a print ad using Inkscape. Thanks a lot Nick!
just wanted to tell you that I became a logo designer since a year using almost exclusively inkscape and you been a huge part of my learning process. Thanks to you I have a job that I loved and that's a lot thanks to you. thank you Nick. from the bottom of my heart
DUDE! These tutorials are so fantastic! Perfectly narrated, and actually explaining everything you're doing while you're doing it. And dropping in smaller fundamental tips like the key combo for undo!
As someone brand new to Inkscape I have to pause and rewind a lot to keep up BUT you my man are a legend in your field. I have watched a bunch of your tutorials for this software and you have unlocked the potential exponentially. Thank you so so much!
Just wanted to say, Thank you for taking the time to put together these amazing tutorials. You do a fantastic job making Inkscape fun and easier to use. Thanks Again.
I really appreciate that you are using Inkscape and GIMP, showing the power of these Open Source Software tools is great and the results are fantastic. I need to create a logo, and have been binge watching your content.
I'm new to Inkscape but I use your Gimp tutorials all the time. Anyway, I was just about to give up on the app because I couldn't get anything I was trying to do to work properly, but then I watched this video, and it solved most of my problems with ir. Thank you. You and your tutorials are awesome.
You're doing fantastic work teaching Inkscape. I've been using it for many years so I don't see much new things here, but aim going to definitely recommend your channel to everyone who wants to.learn Inkscape! Thank you :)
I like this technique as it's better than using the Envelope Distort to warp the entire word at one time. Your way of warping it letter by letter is much better. Illustrator has the easier warp functions like Arc Lower, but for an artist like myself working from home by night, using Linux, this knowledge will help me solve this issue of creating warped Text, instead of getting frustrated with the unreliability of some Inkscape plugins.
I've just had to pause this real quick to leave this comment. Yet another excellent, easy to follow tutorial. I'm learning alot. Thank you so much for making these videos.
hey Nick - love the videos! One suggestion/request - could you occasionally show us your layers? With all the duplicating and converting of objects to paths, it's kind of hard to keep track of how many paths/objects/layers you have and it would be super helpful to see your layer stack. I have so many duplicates that I end up unsure of which object/path/shape is serving which purpose and how they should be arranged top to bottom.
Hey Nick, not sure if you know about this little trick for Alignment tools and the Edit objects to open when you open inkscape. You can add many more options to load when you open inkscape, here is an example that I use: -> "C:\Program Files (x86)\Inkscape\inkscape.exe" --verb DialogAlignDistribute --verb DialogFillStroke --verb Zoom1:1 Add the switched your your shortcut link to inkscape. and BAMM all setup from load. Hope that helps others.
Phew - I tried to follow along every step of the way. You talk pretty fast at times and at times it was hard to see/know what keys or icons you were referring to because they're very small on the screen. Also, it was a bit tough because my icons are not always in the same place you clicked, BUT I powered through. I had to watch and rewind some parts a dozen times, but I finally created this logo! I' m pretty happy about that. Now I have to practice until those many, many, many, many steps become a natural and logical process. Insane the way you have to literally think about and create every aspect. One appreciates ease of things like "word art" and "add text to shape" functions so much more when you don't have to do it so technically and manually. I'm mentally exhausted. But smiling. Thanks so much for the tutorials! I really like the way you think logocally - can't imagne how many thousands of hours you had to log with this software for it to become as native and easy to you as it is.
Great tutorial, thanks for putting this together. I'd recommend this one to anyone who wants to learn just about every path function in one project. You have to pause a lot to keep up, but it's worth it.
Great tutorial Nick! Just wanted to toss in this tidbit with hope that it may help others. I tried this with a word that had a "Q" in it, and when I did "path+intersection" of course it cut off the descender. So I just changed the box shape to include the descender (_before_ "path+intersect") and then it worked just fine. I'd guess it would work the same way for fonts that have ascenders too.
Thanks for the help but there is something a bit different in 2021 when you set "path to object" then "break apart" it didn't work on the updated version that I got I had to go to "path to object" then "ungroup" for some reason that worked and not "break apart" it's weird but let me know if you experienced this also
Nick, you're a brilliant designer. This was overly complicated. I make a cirlce or oval under the letters, and use the path tool to bring the bottom edge of every letter straight down onto it. So much time saved. :-D
I am following your channel maybe for less than one week. Big congrats! High level tutorials and a wonderful channel indeed! I am for years an Adobe user but it would be very stupid from my side to do not admit the power of Inkskape and also GIMP..Long story short: BRAVO! ❤
@15m when I do path-> stroke to path -> then path break apart it does not work most of the time and I would still have a gap between s and k and in C. It worked only twice then it stopped to work. I do not know the reason. I am using inkscape rc1. The solution I found is to ungroup then delete the word then edit nodes in the path and delete them
Nick, I am loving this lesson, but I am getting stuck at 9.53 in the video. When I go to highlight the letter so that I can use the path effects to reshape it into the shape of the box, it is the box that highlights, not the letter. No matter how I try, I can't get the letter to highlight. I can apply the path effect to the box... but we don't want that!. can you, or anyone else, tell me where i am going wrong? many thanks
thanks for the great tutorials. I need some help if you can. every time i try to open an image in inkscape all i get is a red X and no image. any idea what is causing this. Thansk
I can't tell you how helpful your videos are! I'm having trouble with this one. Specifically at the 15:03 point. When I click 'break apart' I don't get the little pieces. I've tried everything and can't get past this point. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?
Many thanks to share tutorial ! At 15 min , It s impossible to reproduce Stroke to patch / Break apart and delete segment on Inkscape 1.01 ...if someone have a "new" method please . Thanks in advance
I am having trouble executing the step at 15:00. For some reason, it keeps deleting the entire layer and not the individual pieces. Could it be due to the thickness of the lines or something? Same thing happened with the red outer layer as well. any help would be much appreciated.
@ 13 min when i select letter and shift selecting red box to do Path intersection, the letter is no longer visible and am left with red box. What am I doing wrong?
Some of the commands didnt work for me as well as the break apart. When i did it it didnt do anything, i didnt have the fragments. I couldn't finish aftwr that so i was left with a word and an outline unfortunately. Idk where i went wrong. Ive watxhed it this ocer snd over and have followed each step and still csnt get it to work.
Hey ur videos are amazing! Only problem what u have on your screen is not on mine maybe you could tell us why? Maybe you have a different version or something ive seen several messages in several of your videos and you have not responded to any of these comments but you will to some that say good job! Just a pointer thats all
hi Nick, big fan here.... i have a couple of questions,... why you change ubuntu? what video editor did you use when you was an ubuntu user? thanks a lot for all than knowledge.. regards
At 15:05 you perform stroke to path -> break apart is this the same sequence you would perform in Inkscape 1.0? When I do it I do not get the same result as you. Wondering if that is because of the 1.0 changes to stroke to path function.
i seem to be getting lost when you're breaking apart the stroke when duplicated and sorted out thickness. Nothing seems to show? tried a few times and followed to the tee
I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get the path to break apart. I had to actually switch from node tool to selection tool and back again. For anyone having issues with that part.
Hey im sorry but that whole "Stroke to path - Break apart" doesnt work for me, im using 1.0 and those tiny segments wont fcking break apart. That results in strange things. It looks quite normal but when i open the Node edit function (N) i See those things but cant remove them. Furter i tried to "scuqre" the upper side so that i get a Straight upper side. Therefore i created a square and tried to union it with my lowest layer. It simply doesnt do ANYTHING. Can someone help me?
had a few errors but ended up doing entirely different but efficient work think is because the update version of this video is old and the latest update changed a lot
Nick this is great. Its funny in a good way when you say your going to do something a certain way, the you say that looks pretty good. It looks bad ass and you say it looks pretty good. 😆 🤣 😂 😹. Great work
you mentioned we don't want to overlap the green boxes the letters are on, what about a word with the letter V for example what I'm working on say BLVD so the V kinda overlaps the L already. how what I go around this?

Hey Nick, awesome channel and tutorial. I followed this tut using a word that began with a G and ended with an A. When I add the first sets of strokes, I lose alignment in the lower points. They are no longer aligned. The right point of the A ends up lower than the G. I understand why, just wondering if there is a solution?

Hi Nick. Great series! Thanks for all the help. I was wondering how you dock both your "Align and distribute objects" and "edit objects colors and gradients" boxes to the right side of your page? When I select both those boxes, the dialogues come up free floating. Thank you.

I'm getting the exact same problem, wont select the little miscoloured sections which means I can't delete them. I've restarted 3 times but same problem every time!
Great video. I was never able to fully duplicate the logo, although I got close. You were going way too fast toward the end for those of us who are newbies, even after rewinding several times. Its not overly complicated. Its warranted. What you suggest would cause the individual letters SEVERELY disproportionate to its original scale.
best logo design tutorial ever
I don’t know what I like the most, the intro song or the content. Subbed 😎🍻
Gotta say, great work very explanatory in the tutorial BUT it was so fast! Dont know how many times I had to pause and go back! Thank you though nick!

I love these tutorials, I've learned so much :)
Nick thanks for your tutorial, in addition to your skill set, your voice is so good and mesmerizing
Thanks Nick for doing the videos and teaching us
Is there an updated version of this vid for 1.3.2 version? Most of the steps are not working...
stroke to path and break apart not happening

This was so incredibly helpful. This tutorial is perfect, thank you so much!
Thanx for the tutorial. It is really pretty nice and easiest way to get over there and make a unique perfect logo with INKSCAPE software

You can't ungroup letters anymore in Inkscape 1.3, you have to use Path -> Split Path.
Thanks for the good work, your designs are totally out of this world.
thanks for the great tutorials. I need some help if you can. every time i try to open an image in inkscape all i get is a red X and no image. any idea what is causing this. Thansk
OMG I have been using your vids to train on this program. it is by far the best thing i have ever used thank you so much.

Couldn't you use a single path effect for envelope deformation on all letters at once?
I am having trouble executing the step at 15:00. For some reason, it keeps deleting the entire layer and not the individual pieces. Could it be due to the thickness of the lines or something? Same thing happened with the red outer layer as well. any help would be much appreciated.
@ 13 min when i select letter and shift selecting red box to do Path intersection, the letter is no longer visible and am left with red box. What am I doing wrong?
very good video, nice presentation, but is there any templates for a directly typing letter in the predefined template?
Some of the commands didnt work for me as well as the break apart. When i did it it didnt do anything, i didnt have the fragments. I couldn't finish aftwr that so i was left with a word and an outline unfortunately. Idk where i went wrong. Ive watxhed it this ocer snd over and have followed each step and still csnt get it to work.
After downloading the fonts how do you get it into Inkscape?
Is there a reason for manually adjusting the letter spacing instead of doing it within the font spacing section
Hey ur videos are amazing! Only problem what u have on your screen is not on mine maybe you could tell us why? I'm a little late to the party but could someone explain to me, why the intersection-part doesn't work?
What am I possibly doing wrong?
i seem to be getting lost when you're breaking apart the stroke when duplicated and sorted out thickness. Nothing seems to show? tried a few times and followed to the tee
Hello, could you make this same design but in gimp? If possible I would appreciate it
Hi, Nick. You are the best. Thanks for all the videos. Watching it one after the other.
Hi, nick
My inkscape doesn't have even a single path effect. how can I enable these effects?
Thanks
phenomenal work
Thank you Nick
I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get the path to break apart. I had to actually switch from node tool to selection tool and back again. For anyone having issues with that part.
How do you reverse the logo, that the middle is bigger and then at the edge it is smaller? because I want it mirrored. Can anyone please help?
Hey im sorry but that whole "Stroke to path - Break apart" doesnt work for me, im using 1.0 and those tiny segments wont fcking break apart. That results in strange things. Ok found the Mistake. Had the "infill" colored. Just unselect Color for inside and everything works as seen. -.-
hello, in Illustrator is one comand like "Flow into form", there is in more dynamic, there are some extension for Inkscape! Great Videos!
The stroke method at 14:40 is not working in Inkscape 1.0
Use Offset in Path Effects instead.
Amazingly produced tutorial! Thank you for the concise info.
it just keeps saying no path detected when I keep trying to do the stroke to path I dont understand why
Thank you for sharing!
had a few errors but ended up doing entirely different but efficient work think is because the update version of this video is old and the latest update changed a lot
amazing work bro
Thanks Nick!
Finally found a solution! Thank you!
Currently trying this and mines looks nothing like the original in the video.
Fantastic tut Nick!! Thank you very much
Nick this is great. Its funny in a good way when you say your going to do something a certain way, the you say that looks pretty good. It looks bad ass and you say it looks pretty good. 😆 🤣 😂 😹. Great work
Hello sir,
I am not able to use the stroke to path function as of you used it so can you please teach me...
@Logos by Nick is it okay if i copy this design and add to it and use for designs of tshirt I have for sale on my redbubble store?
At 15:18 what are those fragments that need to be deleted and what would happen if they weren’t deleted?
How you do the background?? With the same logo and to looking black like this?!!
you mentioned we don't want to overlap the green boxes the letters are on, what about a word with the letter V for example what I'm working on say BLVD so the V kinda overlaps the L already. how what I go around this?
Nick, make a video tutorial teaching to do the theme and these icons, I did not understand anything of the jonny tutorial, please
May I ask why do you not use the letter spacing option in the toolbar? It seems tedious to do it manually and the spacing might not be equal.
So impressive. Thank you
Great works Nick. Your tutorials greatly improved my skills.
Hi Nick!
you hv great content!!i followed step by step the tutorial using inkscape 0.91 but the perspective/enveloppe option in path effect doean't exist in my version. What to do?i am stuck!
YOUR THE MAN NICK
I LOVE YOU
Anyone run into the problem with InkScape ever where document properties wont open? Everything else works but when I click document properties I get nothing
Hi Nick. Great series! Thanks for all the help. I was wondering how you dock both your "Align and distribute objects" and "edit objects colors and gradients" boxes to the right side of your page? When I select both those boxes, the dialogues come up free floating. Thank you.
I've been following this tutorial to make a logo of my name but when it came to the part where I should use the eliptical tool, I can't see anything except for the 3 dots... no matter what I do, nothing happens. I even uninstalled the software twice. Can you help me how to let my Eliptical tool show what it's drawn?
Thank you for your valuable video!
Awesome Videos, been watching quite a few of them. Having problems with this one though. at the 15:01 mark where stroke to path is selected, when I try it nothing happens. Have followed every step up until this, then get stuck. Suggestions?
I'm getting the exact same problem, wont select the little miscoloured sections which means I can't delete them. I've restarted 3 times but same problem every time!
Jeez, that was laborious. Is this really the easiest way to do this?
Great video. I was never able to fully duplicate the logo, although I got close. You were going way too fast toward the end for those of us who are newbies, even after rewinding several times. Couldn't quite get that final outline. And how did you make the entire word inkscape turn white? I had to do each letter individually. But thanks for the videos. I'll keep trying.
Bro i have installed the font but it doesn't appear in inkscape
When you make the green boxes you could just paste the width of the letters.
Great video.... im from Brazil and i could learn just looking the video. I never use inkscape, but you show me the power of this tool. Congrats e sorry my bad english.
hI i'M USING THE STANDARD INKSCAPE (NOT DARK LIKE YOURS) WHERE IS THE ALIGN TOOL ON THIS VERSION?
