Crayfish don't necessarily need an out of water section if you have good air flow. Meaning a sponge filter or airstone. If the water is stagnant you need a way for them to get air.

I had a similar thing happen with Rosy Red Minnows. I bought a dozen, put them in my tank, and was down to four within a week. Then three more gradually disappeared, and the one left has been in there over a year now. I've seen him resting on top of a crayfish, so they must have some sort of agreement now.

Based on yours and the other dudes story i think this may be a evolutionary instinct that serves as a failed attempt to evade eliminating the species in their environment as a whole, the strategy not working because theyre too simple to stop and think about how reproduction isnt possible with just one most of the time. Silly theory but its what came to mind.

I see. Where I live creeks are everywhere and filled with crayfish, they often become pests because of their number, and they kill lots of fish in ponds, lakes and the creeks, preventing fishermen to catch any fish accept a good size crayfish. I think the fish are dying because they are mostly just Rusty Crayfish.

I owned a Crayfish a few years back in a 20in×16in×10in tank. I would put 20 feeder goldfishs in the tank per week and it would eat them all by the end of the week. It lived in the tank for 1 and a half year. It grew to be 5 inches then it escaped the tank(6th time) and died by the shoe rack. It was cool while it was alive. It killed all its family(8) and a bamboo shrimp. During its life it ate a lot of goldfish. I would love to raise another one.

That's so cool, why not raise them all? If you drop her (softly) in the aquarium shell drop the rest of them. You can trade them with other aquarium for fish and supplies (:
The nursery tank can be as small as a 2.5 gallon with a tiny heater and Sponge filter.
I highly recommend chola wood if possible because they will kill each other if they don't have enough space. Keep me updated !

The guide told me when I found my crayfish, that that species had gills, and therefor would die if exposed to air for like a minute.. Is this true?

I had 5 in a tank i caught them in the yard, im pretty sure i identified them as all female they got along well for weeks, feeding them well.
I caught a def male and put him in the tank and he has eaten the two smaller ones already over night, i guess they were males?
I want to breed them at scale so i can eat them fresh water( and aquaponics) rather than mud but they seem difficult to keep alive, most of the babies im trying to keep, that i catch, die within days, in the same tanks i keep goldfish in. The water i get them from is nasty, is it too much of a shock to put them in clean water? Bacteria? Ph? Goldfish are fine in it though.

My uncle actual bought a bucket load of these crawfish (they were red though) and I ended up saving 2 of them before my uncle could even boil them. Sadly my dad won't buy me a tank so hopefully they will eat if I let them out of the tank and crawl around for a while. They aren't really happy with their small tank right now and I feel so bad.

Not my finest moment, but I trusted a pet store employee. I only get aquatic animals from pet stores and I took interest in a blue crawfish. I was told the blue species are fully aquatic, not subterranean like the others. My poor girl has been fully submerged for nearly a month! How can I fix this? My thank's filter wont work if I drop the water levels.

No worries! It's good that you're looking into it, try a sponge filter. This lets you drop down the water line and adds oxygen into the tank!
