For me Jeremy Wade is one of the GOATs when it comes to wild animal content. Right up there with some of my other favs like Steve Irwin, Jeff Corwin, and more recently Coyote Peterson.
His excitement and love for nature is not only obvious but also contagious.

If I may spread some of my knowledge here, these big boys are a good example of insular gigantism. Along the millenials, a species evolving in an environment with lots of food and no natural predators will keep becoming bigger and bigger. This specific species of crayfish just did that. They're isolated in Tasmania, so basically their ecological niche is very unlikely to be threatened by another animal, which means they aren't in competition with anybody for food.
The opposite happens when several species are belonging to the same ecological niche, they tend to become smaller because of the lack of food and/or the presence of predators.

During a break, the American paddler waded in the shallows and something small next to a rock caught his attention so he bent over and extended his hand into the water. On camera he said at that moment he remembered the rule "everything in Australia is ready to kill you" so he left it alone, what ever it was. Funniest part of the film.

We also have a number of blue freshwater crustaceans in Australia, particularly over on our Western Coast it's rare but we can encounter cobalt blue marron (part of what is named the 'Cherax' species), similar to the Tasmanian freshwater crayfish but significantly smaller.
