Sometimes the guards detect you or not depending of where their heads are looking. Most of the time they just look foward, smoke a cigar and whatnot. But sometimes they (Especially the guards that don't move) tend to look around, left and right. It's good to pass next to them undetected, but it's also risky if you're trying to stay hidden. That might explain why sometimes the guards would see you on the stairs and sometimes not. Also, civies don't detect the bags. If you fail throwing them don't worry much, you can still save the situation later.
I refuse to believe they looked away from that intense staring contest. Also, since when did civs not notice bags? I'm fairly certain they've always noticed body bags and mission bags (thermal drill, etc). I dunno, maybe because of that I always assume EVERY bag they would notice

I played using your method. One of the money bags jumped right out of the van but the civies kept walking like it was nothing. Maybe civies notice important bags like Body bags or Drill bags. But other than that, it's fair game. Like throwing jewelry out of the Diamond Store.
Detection is based on the head, so if their foot is sticking out it doesn't matter. Bags also don't trip the laser, unless it's Framing Frame. Guards that don't move in the vault area are because you broke a camera, and the guard freezes because he has no path to the broken camera.
The stars practically aligned for me when I did this. I didn't have to go to the cubicles and hack anything, and no guards came from the elevators. Praise RNGesus.

The vid probably would've been another 20 - 30 minutes had you picked for the remaining loot xD my normal route is Elevator Trick, Keycard and either an extra set of body bags or the Time Lock glitch. The AC unit is a good spot for civs, I'll have to try that. I've solo stealthed this a few times myself and man, time consuming and nerve wracking! The elevator civs, guards, and managers are the only normal people who go to the Manager's area, so once they're dealt with, that area is cleared. I have also noticed Detection has been a bit wonky since the update.

I think that the problem with the guards seeing different things while standing still is their idle animation. In my own experiences, doing Shadow Raid and observing the guards, I have noticed that if I stand in one spot behind them and to the left and they are completely still they will not see me, however eventually they will start a sort of sweeping head animation and it widens their field of view and they will see me. I'm not sure how accurate I am but I think that in one update the guards' vision was matched up with their eyes better and when they move their heads it makes their detection more random and realistic.
Question: How did you remove your mouse lag? I have this pretty awful mouse lag where all of my mouse movements in the game are delayed. Any way to fix that?
FYI: You can use keycards to get rid of the lasers (there are usually 2 in the first part of the mission(before the time lock door) 1 for the horizontal laser 1 for the vertical you insert them next to the door (the 2 thingies)

That picture frame has a safe in there sometimes card key inside. As long they don't see the head of civ or guards they won't get spotted. It works in your favor to. If you hide your face/head behind a lamp then they won't see you.
For getting civs in that corner, I find you can always get them over when they do that if you start walking towards the door, then run over as they start moving again.
Part of the reason you have so many idle guys in the vault area is probably because you destroyed so many cameras. Sometimes, the guards who come to check on the cameras spawn in the vault and, because they can't get to the cameras, on account of the door, they just go idle. If you avoid destroying cameras, the guards don't spawn. Also, if you had gotten the elevator trick, it would have made getting the loot out much easier.

The security guards who stand in a single location are actually bugged. When you shoot the cameras in the first section the game will randomly pick a guard to go investigate. however it will occasionally pick guards from the second area. Since they have no means of getting passed the time lock it breaks their path finding and they remain still for the rest of the game.
I know this video is 6 years old but for anyone who just came by it like me and doesn't know anything about the game (unlike me) as long as the body or hostages head is not visible it cannot be detected the same goes with when you're still thing as long as you have like a pole or something that's hiding the person that's detecting you head and your head it would be a lot harder for them to detect you
I think how fast a guard detects you depends on where he is looking. They are not just standing there staring in the same direction the whole time. Sometimes they look a little bit to the left or right and that is why they sometimes see you and sometimes they don't.
with dead presidents aced (+30% loose item worth), that 45 second money counting machine is worth like 260k on overkill (never tried it on deathwish, but it's more), which is worth around 2 money bags, so a nice chunk of change, worth more than you gave it credit for :P (postscript: worth around two money bags without having to carry it to the escape)

If the head is not visible the guards will not detect the hostage so you can put it in a wall in the main area all the civs walk and guards

Sprinting while VERY close to a guard will instantly alert them. Sprint Jump Crouch still works well if you keep some distance between you and guards.

I think how fast a guard detects you depends on where he is looking. They are not just standing there staring in the same direction the whole time. Sometimes they look a little bit to the left or right and that is why they sometimes see you and sometimes they don't.

with dead presidents aced (+30% loose item worth), that 45 second money counting machine is worth like 260k on overkill (never tried it on deathwish, but it's more), which is worth around 2 money bags, so a nice chunk of change, worth more than you gave it credit for :P
(postscript: worth around two money bags without having to carry it to the escape)
