As an expat in The States I loved the bit about "I'm Scottish too!". I get that all the time. An old lady once found out I was from Scotland and asked me if I knew Jeff, her grandson who lived in Glascow. I couldn't resist and I told her yes. Made her day.

I'm originally from the South Coast of England, but moved up 12 years ago & never looked back.
Stepdad's Glaswegian, so got used to the accent very quickly.

I just showed this to my Scottish Terrier. Afterwards I told him it was a beautiful sunny Scottish day to wear his skirt to his homeland (where my roommate's grandmother's neighbor is from) during his next UK tour to Ireland on his way to avoiding stopping in "Edinborrow" (er... BRAH.... BRAAAAH.... BRAAAAAAAAAH... er...fuckin bra?) while attending a religious experience and talk about the referendum while texting me on his cell phone... but i can't understand the texts because he kept 'ate'-ing everything, so I yelled 'FREEEEEDOM!' at him, which he wasn't impressed by, so i gave him a gift with some monopoly money in it and told him the next time he goes to whatever the hell part of England he's from, he should buy something nice.

While living in england I had one of them english dicks tell me england had the highest mountain in Britain. Thinking I would amuse the guy I asked him what it's name was, expecting Ska fell or something, but his answer was Mount Snowden......When I told him that was in Wales his face was a picture:D I doubt if he believed me or perhaps he is still looking at maps trying to figure out where Wales is :-)

Pronunciation of Edinburgh...I was hitch hiking in the Toronto area in 1976. I was picked up by a cheerful and portly gentleman from Austin, Texas. He asked me if I lived in the Toronto area all my life. I told him that I was born in Aberdeen. "Oh! I was in Ayburdeen. And Glass-cow and Edenburg." I hid my cringing at the pronunciations. He then said, "But that was thirty-five years ago. I replied, "In 1941? Well, hotel prices were at a premium then". "Oh, no. I was doing a world tour with the U.S. Navy's Seventh Fleet." "Really! Which ship?" "The Arizona." I stared at him. "You weren't..." "Yes I was, son." I shook his hand. It's not every day that you meet a veteran of Pearl Harbour.

I think "Edin-Bo-ro" comes from us in the States having a lot of "Boros". I myself was raised in a place called "Willingboro", and other people might live in various -boros or -boroughs, both of which are pronounced "Bo-ro". So in our minds, maybe we see "Edinburgh", and our mind changes the "Burgh" to "Borough" and the whole thing becomes Edinborough.
P.S. I personally LOVE the rain. 5-6 months of nothing but rain or cloudy days seems like heaven on earth to me, ESPECIALLY if it turns to snow and hail eventually (I'm that one weird bastard who loves bad weather).

i would definitely trade some rain with sunshine. i live in australia and we kinda don't get much rain. I'm in coastal region, one of the wettest parts of our state nsw and we get it raining once every like couple of months if we are lucky. i know you people from the uk saying your lucky you get lots od sunshine and can go to the park but there is too much sun. over here it gets so hot that i have seen people pass out from the heat, once when the air con was not working at work i saw my manager on the run all day long with water cause people got heat stroke and by law the business must help. please can i have some we are so arid that it is almost impossible to get outside because its too hot

Firstly you’ve got seven main cities then highland and lowland plus the Hebrides and orkneys and Shetland islands if that doesn’t give an idea of how many there are I don’t know what does ! I counted 75 in Ireland alone here’s how I got that figure 32 counties x2 depending on the part of each you’re from add in the three main cities of Cork , Dublin and Belfast again times two depending on north or south side of the city plus add in the three Aran islands off the coast of Galway and there you have it 75 . Scotland would have close to around the same id think don’t you ?

I went to a renaissance festival in Houston, TX this past year and got a little banner from a shop that says: "I am quite convinced that Scottish cuisine is based on a dare." I think it mostly refers to Haggis and will take it to our local Bobby Burns birthday bash this year. And, boy did they give me an education in Scotch! I now have a fine collection of Scotch whiskey.

I will admit, as much as your weather sucks the majority of the time, as I know from previous visits, I came up the other weekend and had an entire couple of days of sun and relative warmth. as a northerner it was warm anyway. the southerner i was with had a coat on constantly but it was lovely warmth to me

Loved this post. I'm from Alaska, and we suffer from a lot of the same problems! Good bands and shows never come here, even though they say they are doing a US tour. We have to pay international shipping rates for stuff coming from the "lower 48" (the states down south) even though we use the same US postal service. We even have companies ask us if we take American dollars - hello!!! Yes!!! We are part of America!!! And don't even get me started on questions about weather. So yes, I get it! I have a question which may come out as stupid since I could look it up but I have trust issues with websites for something's. Is Scotland it's own country like Ireland or is it a territory or what the brittish equivalent to states in America? I don't know. I have yet to be taught and with the school system I'm in I doubt I'll ever learn so I apologize if my question is rude or stupid to ask but I really don't know and would like to know.
Thanks for the schooling on the pronunciation of Edinburgh, but most of us Americans, unless otherwise counseled, would do far worse than the mis-pronunciation you give us credit for. Better than 99 percent of us here would say "edin-berg." No kidding. But I shall endeavor to pass on your teaching. Thanks! (Watching all of your vlogs. LOVE them!)

Go down to the South of England once or twice a year & go to give someone an RBS £20 & they just gi you the dirtiest of looks & refuse to take it.
Their excuse "It's not legal tender mate!" to which my reply is "Right pal first of all, I'm no your mate right, secondly it's still pound sterling, so perfectly acceptable!"
