This week I'm interviewing Fr. Gregory Pine OP about #freedom, #liberty, and #virtue. We explore the difference between agency and freedom, how God expects us to use our freedom, and the #Church's #tradition of thought on this question.

I appreciate this interview. It’s the great tragedy of modern times: people tricked into thinking freedom is absence of judgement, freedom from rules and laws, or any restrictions. Now we live in a society where children/ perpetuating the species is seen as a pedestrian burden. Life is about giving at its core.

God has not put us into a setting in which the rules are arbitrary. We actually can and do know an awful lot about the good. And people at all times and in all places have known at least something about the good. You can start to see it by asking the question “what was needed and what was required of those around me for me to survive and thrive as a child?” Really start thinking that through, and you will go a long way to seeing what is good, if you then apply those attributes universally. I believe this fits in with natural law. To bring up the problem of divine hiddenness can be to look for an excuse to not follow what we already know.

The Church is dying for lack of the clarity of his teachings. V2 preferred ambiguity so as to introduce new doctrines into the Faith leaving us rudderless and confused.

What in V2 is ambiguous? I thought the ambiguity was the variety of reactions to it.

@@joeb3167 "The One True Church subsists in the Catholic Church". Explain what this means

    • @Fiona2254

The document wasn’t ambiguous, there were priests who chose to see it as such. For example nowhere does it say don’t fast on Friday. It does say that you can fast other things than meat. For some people meat fasting is nothing, vegetarians for example, so they should find something that is actually sacrificial. To me is harder not to game with friends on Friday than to not eat meat since I like seafood and have no issues going vegan one day a week.
There was also no removal of the veil, yet people chose to se the option yes/no as “don’t have to”
There were many things like this and US priests did chose the easy let’s try to atract evangelicals by being less Catholic and that backfired. Dumb mistake or actually what they wanted to do doesn’t mater what matters is to roll that back but that can’t be accomplished if we insult our good priests and the pope in public. Accepting the errors and that there are some bad priests doesn’t mean we have to mean we continue the destruction by badmouthing the church.

@@Fiona2254 Wrong. Before the ambiguous V2 document, the Church clearly taught that, "The one True Church "IS the Catholic Church". V2 opened the door to religious indifferentism and thus "ecumenism ".

@@carolynkimberly4021 You are referring to paragraph 8 of Lumen Gentium (LG), Vatican II’s Dogmatic Constitution on the Church. The word subsists has often been misunderstood and sometimes willfully misrepresented.
It does not mean exists as a subset, as if only a part of the Church exists in the Catholic Church, meaning others part exist elsewhere. Rather, subsists means to “exist as a substance,” and there is only one substance of the Church, i.e., the Catholic Church, as LG 8 conveys: This Church constituted and organized in the world as a society, subsists in the Catholic Church, which is governed by the successor of Peter and by the bishops in communion with him, although many elements of sanctification and of truth are found outside of its visible structure. These elements, as gifts belonging to the Church of Christ, are forces impelling toward catholic unity.
So why subsists in instead of is? As then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, then prefect of the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, summarized well in the 2000 declaration Dominus Iesus (DI):
With the expression "subsistit in," the Second Vatican Council sought to harmonize two doctrinal statements: on the one hand, that the Church of Christ, despite the divisions which exist among Christians, continues to exist fully only in the Catholic Church, and on the other hand, that “outside of her structure, many elements can be found of sanctification and truth,” that is, in those churches and ecclesial communities which are not yet in full communion with the Catholic Church. But with respect to these, it needs to be stated that “they derive their efficacy from the very fullness of grace and truth entrusted to the Catholic Church” (DI 16, emphasis added; footnotes omitted; see DI 17).
This is why LG 14 can speak about those who are fully incorporated or members of the Church versus those who are linked-baptized Christians but not fully incorporated-i.e., our Protestant brothers and sisters.

@@john9486You must be deaf and blind not to acknowledge that Francis and his chosen cohorts champion opinions that do not align with the Deposit of Faith. Maybe you have never been taught Catholic doctrine. You want evidence? He venerated a pagan fertility god at the Amazon Synod, he gave a practicing homosexual priest the green light to continue in his lusts, he is trying to stamp out the Mass of the Saints, in his abu Dabi accords he places Islam on the same status as Christianity, he has abandoned the Catholics in China and allows Communists to appoint bishops, contrary to scripture his Amoris Latitia encyclicals says Catholics living in adultery can receive Communion, he gave abortion-loving Biden Communion and in the Synod on Synodality he wants women priests, blessings on Sodomite "unions" and a further turn of the Church to being deChristianized.
