A side-scrolling platform game starring Pac-Man.
The game is endless with only 32 levels and after that, the levels start repeating so I see no point in continuing beyond that. -

@jasonsudeikis26 no I’m why bother.
This game was turly ahead of it's time at the time this was not only the first Pac-Man game to not take place in a maze but it was also the first platformer to feature Pac-Man in it witch for that reason alone this game's legacy will never be forgotten it will always have a special place in our hearts and live on as being known as one of the more unique Pac-Man games
It was my favorite game at the Game room along with Puzzle Bobble

It is sad that there are a lot of people who think that mario bros was the first lateral scroll game ever when this game came first
@@Ricky_019 Super Mario Bros. didn't even come out before Ghosts 'n Goblins. But yes, this game came out even before that one. Pac-Land was very ahead of its time.
I'm 20, my mom taught me how to play this game when I was 9 with Mame 32, she knew all the secrets that doesn't even appear in this video, all by going to the arcade when she was a kid and learning those by herself. It makes me so nostalgic.
How do you get past the springboard?
@@lordpsi99 exactly . Driving me mad. In this vid he jumps on it, springs half way then somehow flies. All most 40 years of frustration. Does the blue hat allow you to fly. Some one please for the love of pax tell me!
You need to either mash the jump button or the left/right button (I don't remember which)
@@proddy2347 When you jump from the springboard, let him get to his full height, then you need to keep rapidly pressing the right direction button.
@@reaper0374 Or in the arcade keep hammering the joystick to the right.
The character designs are the same as the Hanna Barbera cartoon! The only character who's missing is Mezmaron!
Ayyy
Well, that kind of makes sense as this is the American version of the game.
This is a wrench!
@@TheCoolEevee Yep, the Japanese version of this has the added characters appear much different along with Pac-Man resembling the version Namco normally likes to design him as with the long nose and "pie eyes".
I suspect Mezmaron was the inspiration for Spunky from Pac-Mania
Oh man, I remember this one. It was in my college rec room when I was working towards my BA. I always suspected someone wanted to teach the students patience.
Just because this is a “bad” Smash Bros Stage, that doesn’t mean you should hate this game
Yeah if they hate on this game they hate Mario
What was so bad about the stage?
Caleb Montes They hate it because it’s an autoscroller and because of the “mS pAiNt ArT sTyLe”
I actually really like the stage
@@Skia_Woodling So do I. Though I prefer Pac-Maze
At my local arcade, it was always the same teenage girls that played this...they’d tap the controller with an open palm rather than hold it like you normally would, and damned if they weren’t really good at it!
You'd tap it to run I remember.
Original Pac-land control panel was all buttons, no joystick. Though I have seen a few conversions where a joystick was used.
You’re supposed to tap it to run at max speed.
@@brandonhurst7681 You can actually hold it to lock your speed in place.
@@AshaTheGameGenie, I’ll have to try it. I’ve been spamming the move button this whole time. Lol.
Those pools were much harder on the actual cabinet
I never knew Pac-Man could push a hydrant and change his hat.
Anything can happen in Pac-Land
There are loads of hidden bonuses like that in the game.
Wish you could do that in real life; my hat is so boring, I need a new one
LOL
The hat makes you jump higher with the more points you earn. You cannot get far into the game without the hat considering in level 3 theres a launchpad you need to jump on to cross a lake
This was the first arcade game I got hooked on. I would have been four or five years old and it was 20c a game. Such great memories of my mum taking me to the fish and chip shop to play.
How do you get past the springboard?
@@lordpsi99 push right really fast
@@lordpsi99slam on the run button if youre using a joystick ill pray for you lol
wait, is the arcade theme the intro song to the Cartoon?
Yes, the very same.
The entire game is based on the show.
Fun fact: This was the game that directly inspired Super Mario Bros. True story.
@@nathanhargenrader645 The game was released a year before Super Mario Bros even existed yet.
And Felix the cat.
@@nathanhargenrader645 Incorrect, this predates SMB1 by a year.
@@lordkaijux5262SMB1 came out 85, thid was 84
It actually just inspired the blue sky.
I remember playing this at the airport - it made my anxiety even worse !
you can jump at every "break time" to earn more points
7650 if you're lucky.
@@noel_savage_dota1436 but the timing to get that to land on the ground so hard.
@@chrisketchum8042 Jump by lining up Pac-man with the house in the background, 1st floor of the house where the edges of the roofs meet.
And on the way home, the middle post of the Pac-man house.
Unless your energizer is active, then jump a bit sooner, because you will jump higher.
@@chrisketchum8042 i hit almost every time
I tend to get the Green sign which is 1000 points. That’s not too bad. If you want to maximise the effects, be sure to change the settings so you get the EVERY BONUS AT something Points(I think one of them is every 200K points).
Why are the ghosts just yeeting their kids at pac-man!?
This is the only version of Pac Land not to have crosses on the churches. Maybe it takes place before Pac Jesus died and rose again for the sins of the Pac People?
Underrated comment.
Ah yes, the game that inspired me before I even existed.
Yes, your NES game. You existed in 1981 first with the arcade game Donkey Kong.
@KadUniondont be such a mario hater you now
At the end of chapters, when you walk towards the "Break time" sign, if you jump at the right moment and touch the ground just when the music ends (ta ta ta -- TAAAA) different signs with extra bonuses appear. I remember when you landed exactly right when the moving freezes (only the tip of one foot touches the ground) then you get the maximum score, which I believe was 7650 points! You get also smaller bonuses if you miss the moment and land a bit before, but no bonus at all if you do later.
As a kid I reached Level 12 a few times, then it got simply too difficult to play and then I got tired of it realizing that there will never be anything new in the levels anymore, except that they only get more faster and the colors will change a bit, and stopped playing.
Very nostalgic seeing this game again, thanx for uploading! 😩
Jump at the "break time"!! When music stops it gives you bonus points. 300 if you are airborne, 1000 if you are airborne and going downwards and about 7640 if you are airborne, going down and very close to the ground.
From what I see, he´s terrorizing a peaceful ghost town.
did you watch the cartoon???
He's mad out of it on a goofball and shandy rampage🤪
...no?
I love the fact they used that theme from the "Pac-Man" cartoon
It's from Hanna-Barbera Productions.
This game was based off the Pac-Man cartoon, which in itself was based off the original Pac-Man game.
@@Bloodreign1funny how I always thought the cartoon was based off of this game as a kid, I didn't knew the cartoon was canon
Arcade Archives: Pac-Land will be available on April 7, 2022 on Nintendo Switch Lite.
I can't believe this was based off the Hanna-Barbera cartoon
Fun fact: This is my favourite smash stage. It’s because how it keeps you on your toes while fighting.
Someone will probably get really pissed at this.
This is the proper speed Pac-Man should be moving. In the arcades, people jammed on the buttons to make him RUN. All these other playthroughs make him go SO SLOW.

As soon as saw the graphics and heard the music this brought back so many memories
I moved to Japan in 1989 and at the ymca (called the youth center) this game was there it was the first game I played when I got there.
I saw this game once when i was 12. Ive remembered the music ever since, its that catchy
This game was miles ahead of it’s time,i just can’t believe it’s 40 years old.
0:00 you know the games gonna be good when it starts off with earrape
lots of arcade games do that lol
I didn’t know the game was based off the show
have you guys done Pac-Man, if not then I'd love to see it.
that background music is my ringtone.. loved this game, and wonderboy in monsterland, 10p a pop in the arcade when i was like, i dunno, maybe 7 or 8 with my older brother, then along came streetfighter 2 and teenage mutant ninja turtles machines, i kicked ass at streetfighter.. i'll never forget when mortal kombat 2 hit the arcade machines, queues for days, winner stays on haha
..thems were the days
You keep missing the 7650 points at the break time sign. You do a little jump right before the sign and it'll freeze frame where your foot barely touches the ground. It gives you 7650 points and then the next level starts. It's kind of like mario with the flag.
My local chip shop had this game when I was a kid and I used to love it.
The one thing I want in these old video games is music in background
Love everything about this game, especially the ghost designs. Wish this look was the direction they stayed with in the pacman series. Especially the Japanese promo art they made for this. Pacman games began to look very generic after this... less stylization.
So, THAT'S where the theme music to the Hanna-Barbara Pac-Man cartoon came from.
The other way around since the cartoon came before Pac-Land.
I never understood why they didn’t have the Ghosts appear in the Smash Bros stage
loved this
why was smash pacman so based on this random game and not pacman world
They might as well have given him that hat
They seriously should have given his alternate costumes hats. *His wristbands suck.*
@@Aflay1 fr tho
I wouldnt call it random, back in the day this was basically the video game version of the sat morning cartoon show, with the same character design and theme song It was a pretty big deal and for a lot of old folks like me this is just how he looks in your head.
Without this game, there would be no smash bros.
Don't you get bonus points if you jump right at the end?
30:48 what happens every time i get to the water stage
Very first side-scrolling game can be move left or right by NAMCO, but it's MS Paint graphic.
It predates MS Paint by a year, so....
The graphics tries to have that comic book feel, I guess
Pac-Man Is At It Again In Pac-Land From Namco! Ghosts Can Run, But They Can't Hide From Pac-Man!
5:26 Hey! It's a cheeky appearance by Garfield! Never noticed that back in the day!
That's Sour Puss!
So THIS is where pac man's jump sound in smash come from... Cool!
Oh, "Pac-Land," where do I even begin? This game is a true testament to the unyielding ambition of game developers to take a beloved character and say, "You know what? Let's completely change everything that made it great." Because who needs the simple joy of navigating a maze when you can have the thrill of a side-scrolling adventure?
First off, let's talk about the graphics. If you've ever thought to yourself, "I wish my games looked more like a kindergarten art project," then you're in luck! Pac-Land's vibrant use of color is reminiscent of a child's first encounter with a box of crayons. The backgrounds are so beautifully basic, they'll have you wondering if the developers were pioneering a new genre: minimalist expressionism.
And the gameplay, oh, the gameplay! It's as if someone took the original "Pac-Man," removed everything that required strategy or skill, and replaced it with the kind of running and jumping typically reserved for someone's first attempt at a platformer. The controls are so responsive, you'll find yourself leaping into ghosts with such precision, you'd think it was part of the game's design.
But let's not forget the sound design. The music is the kind of repetitive melody that will haunt your dreams, playing over and over until you find yourself humming it in the most inappropriate of times. It's the gift that keeps on giving, really.
And the cherry on top? The plot. Pac-Man's quest to traverse through Pac-Land to deliver a fairy back to Fairyland is the kind of storytelling that will leave you saying, "Wait, that's it?" It's a narrative so compelling, you'll be left wondering why more games don't take inspiration from this rich tapestry of... walking to the right.
In conclusion, "Pac-Land" is an experience. It's a game that dares to defy expectations by lowering the bar so significantly, you can't help but trip over it. It's a reminder that sometimes, in the world of video games, less is just less. And for that, we thank you, "Pac-Land," for showing us that even icons like Pac-Man can have an off day. Or in this case, an off game.
Also, if memory serves me right, eating 7 ghosts with ONE POWER PELLET would give you the Special Flag. It’s hard to perform but doable.
i only played the the version found on compilations i believe that version is the japanese/international version
this here is the original US version based of the 80's cartoon or most well known that xmas special
The US version by Midway ran faster than Namco's international version. The US version also tied into the Hanna-barbera cartoon.
i just said that................
I just found the arcade version on the switch. Its by itself in the Arcade Archives section.
im telling u, I DIDNT ACTUALLY THINK THIS GAME WAS REAL. i actually thought it was something nintendo made up for smash
Here's a tip for YOU
Just before the end of the board after you pass the white house with the red roof....
Jump as soon as you pass the last wall to get more points. The highest if I remember correctly is 3600 points
Lots of tricks not shown, including "collecting" the ghosts and the babies from the planes before taking the power pill for maximum bonuses.
Springboard technique is amazing! Please teach us how!
5:12 Close one!
How do you glide when you jump
I had this on turbo grafix 16 when I was a kid. It was really hard.. I never knew how I got the hard hat and couldn't figure it out. All I knew is that sometimes I'd get one lol wow
Why does it take him 2 minutes just to start the game?
to show all of the demos that play when nobodies playing
4:56 I never knew he could do that either.
Me neither.
I never played this before, but it’s a stage on Smash Bros, so I might try it out on my emulator
I played this yesterday for the first time in 35 years at retro replay in norwich.
Love this! Don't listen to the naysayers.
The naysayers have to be the youngsters who didn't know this game was cutting edge in 1984.
@@Bloodreign1 I'm sure they are. This was my childhood and these were all new and impressive.
I am young and i respect this game so much. It inspired Mario

Yes! It was the best memories of your youth, that you would never get back. Hahaha

Play it on the Turbo then the super hard version after completing try the normal difficulty level.
How did you hover
nice
There was another version to this game where he had a feather on his hat and made him as slow as hell
thats the international version
The thing is that hes always that slow cause there is no run button in this game the original arcade setup was 3 buttons 1 for left 1 for right and 1 for jump hold the left or right buttons and you would walk mash them to run this fucking sucks on a controller

doesnt this game have infinite levels? i.e theres no ending?
No ending at all, though the TG-16 has an ending cutscene of sorts. But I believe the game either loops there too, or just ends at 32 levels.

This is based on the tv series PA PA PA PAC POWER
Why doesnt Jump when he finishes a part?
So, this was the game that inspired Miyamoto to make Super Mario Bros.
...I can kinda see it.

Having only played the Turbo Grafx version, I'm surprised to see what Midway added to the US Arcade version, namely the character design changes and the presence of Pac Man's cat and dog from the cartoon.
