I think this should be a tradition, where the Oscar winning director of the previous year presents the Oscar at next year's ceremony for the same award

It almost always like that as far as I remember, it was just some of them were not able to attend just like cuaron who didn't attend last year, so spike lee took his part.

They did that for awhile during the 1990s but stopped doing it after 1995
What was most inspiring to me wasn't that she's a female filmmaker, it's that she also wrote, edited, and produced the film herself.
A lot of directors do that.

Anyone who doubts her win mustn't be aware of the risks she took with Nomadland. Telling a Real Nomadic Story with Non conventional Screenplay putting an actress as a female protagonist and we all see the movie with her eyes. It's not easy and it is also not easy to balance the way she crafted the movie which somewhat looks like Documentary and somewhat drama. Congratulations Chloé Zhao.

Lee Isaac Chung is just one of those typical Asian-Americans. He would've not been a representative for South Korea like Bong Joon-ho if that's what you're trying to suggest.
Chloe Zhao, on the other hand, could be a represent for China since she was born and raised in Beijing, but China doesn't like her so she's considered American now.

Well-deserved, and congrats to Chloe Zhao! Nomadland my not be my favorite film of the year at all but it’s easily the best achievement in directing of 2020 in my opinion. I’m so glad this happened.
But disappointing Florian Zeller got snubbed for Best Director for The Father
Nomadland has great directing. She became the second woman in history to win the latter after Kathryn Bigelow in 2010, and the first woman of color to win the category. She also became the sixth woman to win multiple Academy Awards in the same year, after Edith Head, Catherine Martin, Fran Walsh, Kathryn Bigelow and Frances McDormand.
