Thanks for watching! I'm sure this will get more popular with the new Texas BDR-X. I wouldn't think I need to say this, but riding off-road in the National Park is prohibited and nowhere did I get off a designated route. I had one person leave several ranting comments about how I was misleading people and this was illegal, yada Yada. I think everyone knows "off-road" means "off-pavement" and that's how people use that term and for purposes of searching.
Thanks for the video. We’re planning on riding this road on our KLR650s and watching your video helped us get an idea of what to expect. Great Scorpion jacket as well!
Glad you enjoyed it! The KLR is comparable to what I was riding. It's very doable, just a little rough. Are you riding it as part of the new BDR-X or just visiting the park?
@viajarMOTO Nice. Hope it's a great ride for you. That's new since I was there last, but hope to check it out in January. If the part outside Big Bend is worth doing let me know!
@@getlosttrails Yes the BDR-X was definitely worth it. Even the paves sections were pretty enjoyable. The hardest part was Old Ore Road and some sandy sections on the River Road since we did not ride Black Gap. We camped for four nights (two in Big Bend, one in Beg Bend State Park, and another north of Godzilla Hill. A great 5 days of off-road adventure!
Good video of Old Ore Road, glad you decided to go ahead and ride it after talking to us about it. I felt the same as you, not so sure that I really enjoyed it but I'm glad I rode it as well as Black Gap Road. It was nice meeting you and spending time around the campfire with you.
Honestly that was the worse part of it and I can't say I wasn't warned. A lighter bike with a better suspension with definitely soak that up more than mine. I do usually ride with my panniers, but often it's just to carry some camera equipment and lunch. Not sure leaving them behind would have changed much for me, but it's worth considering.
There's a similar road in eastern New Mexico that I rode last summer. It was a lot of fun. Just north of Logan, NM is CR C which changes to C4 then to J1. It goes 55 miles to a tiny town called Mosquero. I can't wait to ride it again. There's not a lot of scenery, but like you said it's good practice. 👍
Some day I want to explore more of NM. I just went through there. Was looking at some BDR, but it seemed like it might get into some snowy areas fast even that far south. I'm sure there are things to see if you get in the right parts. Not that there wasn't scenery on that Old Ore Road, just that the pavement scenery is pretty darn good with less effort!
I was just there a few weeks ago. We were riding light weight bikes and had no problems but I was thinking a few parts would have been tricky on larger ADV bikes. I thought Black Gap Rd was easier.
Was just there a few weeks ago. I enjoyed both parks. I didnt get the chance to ride everything in the state park but I agree it seemed a little more technical in spots. Id like to go back some day and finish riding it all
Oh yeah I'm riding a 650. I'm not that familiar with the handling characteristics of the Enfield and the tires may make it more challenging, but the bike will do it.

thanks for posting this up! (heading back next week and was looking for a refresher of OOR)
I hope you enjoy the ride.
Nice video! Thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching! It's a gem in Texas really. Hope to get back someday
Great video thanks I’m considering it this weekend while there really just for practice and skills
You're welcome. If you're there, you might as well give it a shot!

@ We’ll be riding the BDR-X starting tomorrow from Alpine and riding clockwise.

Absolutely. I enjoyed every minute of my time there and it's always great to meet fellow riders! Maybe Black gap next time for me... who knows.
Been out there a bunch with my jeep getting ready to take my Africa Twin. Looks like getting suspension dialed in is key for enjoyable ride
A good suspension will definitely improve your experience! Enjoy!
That was some rough riding!!😎

I skipped Black Gap, but I am going back so hopefully I can check it out!
The riding in the NP is pretty mild, there's definitely some more technical sections in the state park.
I was going to check out Big Bend Ranch State Park as well, but I didn't really have time. Maybe next go-round.

This doesnt look too bad. I feel like my royal enfield gt650 could handle this. Only thing is it's on street tires.
