    I'm new to running, and I have to say, out of all the channels I've explored over the past month, your videos are by far the most informative. The way you present the information is spot on, with great pacing, smooth editing, and really helpful graphs. Awesome content, man! 🙂
    I'm considering the Pegasus 41 and Plus for my runs, but since I'm still building up my skills, I don't feel ready for the Vaporfly just yet. Once I start getting into some races, I'll definitely look into it again. I'm planning to run my first marathon soon, and since my pace will be pretty slow, I think the Peg 41 or Plus will be a better fit for me.

      The Peg41 and Peg Plus are a wonderful combo to learn good running form. Lots of feedback from both shoes that will benefit you as you develop a running foundation. The Peg Plus will be a good step into a performance shoe. All you need right now as you are learning. Excellent combo.

    So far I love the Peg plus, as I wrote: You have to put the work in, but it holds up whatever you throw against it, be it easy runs, threshhold or some intvervals...
    As my first full ZoomX shoe I really expected something entire else... like way softer, almost mushy, was surprised how resilient the foam is...
    But guess what... its so much fun to run in these, to feel the ground while maintaining a superb cushion.
    From almost 2 years entirely in max cushion shoes and plated shoes... I really missed something like that, its so fun to put the miles into the Peg Plus.
    Vaporfly 3 I havent run yet, but from the initial step in its the same as with the Peg Plus... expected something different... but feels really really great already.
    Thanks for your work c:

      I'm glad you are enjoying them. It is an interesting perspective you have, coming from the shoes you have been running in. Those of us coming from Nike rotations and the Streak 6/7 to Streakfly...the Peg Plus makes alot of sense right away. Also those of us who ran in the Vaporfly 4% will find the geometry of the Plus familiar as the stack heights are similar, the Plus is just much wider and more stable.

    Amazing analysis! I discovered your channel not that long ago and I have learned so much watching your videos. I had a question regarding fast shoes in the rotation. If I am using the Vomero 17 for daily training and the AF3 for race, which one would you recommend if you have to pick one between the Peg Plus and the Vaporfly 3? Or would you recommend having both? I am leaning towards the Vaporfly 3 for fast shoes but I would like to hear your opinion.

      I’m glad you are finding value in the channel. Welcome! 🤙🏻
      Between the V17 and AF3 you have most things covered. I’d probably lean towards the Peg Plus as having a lower stack, more flexible, non plated shoe for speed workouts…. To balance out your other two shoes would be what I’d recommend.
      That being said I rotate a P41/Peg Plus/VF3/AF3 as my primary rotation, swapping in two other shoes for track specific work, and find I have no gaps in what I need.
      So… both shoes are great and have a purposes… depending on the distances you run and the type of speed work you are looking to do.

    Great video as always. As an Adidas rotation guy, I wish they'd fill that slot the Peg Plus hits, with something fully/mostly Lightstrike Pro, but without a plate/rods. But a little thicker/more protective than the Adios 8 (which I love).
    Basically a Takumi/Boston without rods as a nice up-tempo shoe to get more flexibility and training stimulus but still with bounce and protection.
    I'm holding out hope this is what the leaked Adios 9 is going to be, and I can see all your would-be "vs." videos now!

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, I'm holding out hope that will be what the A9 is as well. So far everything I've seen points to it being that....though it's unknown if there is a midfoot shank or not.
      But the SL2/TS10/AP3 or SNR/TS10/A9/AP4 will cover the exact same ground as what I go over in this video. Infact when the AP4 and A9 are out I expect to be making a VERY similar video to this for Adidas...
      Also the Peg Plus vs A9 comparison will be one of the most important of the year...
      Exciting things ahead for them.

I think personally I enjoy the Vomero 17 for a Nike rotation daily over the Peg41 for the sole reason that during the colder months of the year in north eastern United States I find that ZoomX feels almost the same or has negligible effect compared to react where I find the ride is changed by a pretty dramatic amount.

    You've talked a few times about building a rotation in a single brand, I remember a lot of Adidas talk a couple of months ago.
    I find the idea unappealing somehow. I think it's that I like the idea of mixing and matching from different brands, just like I would with regular clothing.
    I even try to avoid wearing running clothes and shoes by the same brand at the same time, because it's too like wearing a uniform.
    Is there any tangible performance benefit to keeping your rotation within one Nike or Adidas, or do you think it's more psychological/aesthetic?

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      We are completely opposite in this regard. I streamline everything (in my life) down to one or two brands. In order not to mix anything if I can, with literally everything I work with, run with, live with.
      As for running shoes… as a designer I like to understand and feel the design intent of how products are designed to work together. I will rarely mix brands in a running rotation, at least one when I’m seriously training for something. Casual running, it is fine though.

    As a former college miler I’ve been keeping an eye on the rotation of Nike’s 1500m pros. It seems like both Hocker and Ingebrigtsen really like the Structure as their easy shoe, with Hocker using it for most workouts as well while Ingebrigtsen opts for vaporflies. I’ve seen Ingebrigtsen in pegs, vomeros, and invincibles as well but more and more the structures while not using the zoom flies as much as in prior years. Interesting that these guys have 2-3 shoe rotations and also that they haven’t incorporated the peg plus. Will be keeping an eye out to see if they do.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I'm keeping my eye out on this too. More the Japanese Nike marathoners...but am paying attention to some of the Nike track athletes. Japanese Nike marathoners tend to train nearly exclusively in Pegs, with the occasional Vomero 17...they VF3s for workouts and AF3s for key long runs, lots of Dragonflys on the track for them too.
      I've definitely seen Hocker and Ingebrigtsen in them. He was in Zoom Fly 4s for a long time too, which I found odd. I've seen Conner Mantz in Streakflys quite a bit, as well as Pegs, never Structures. I know Structures are popular trainers in alot of American college teams.
      With the Olympics just wrapping most athletes are either wrapping up their seasons or taking a well earned rest. By the fall we should see some back out training and see where they slot the Peg Plus in. I'm very curious.

    Have you tried the ultrafly? My fav zoomx shoe, actually fav shoe ever (and I don’t want the plate, and I run mostly road). Best application of the foam, better than peg plus (and I like peg plus). Interesting to see your comparison of the two shoes

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, I have the Ultrafly. It's too way too heavy for any type of road running. I run alot of trail as well, but all I have here is very steep and technical, exactly the type of trail the UF isn't great for.
      I have a review of the UF on the channel.
      What's interesting though, there is quite a bit of UF DNA in the Plus. The sculpting of the midsole sidewalls of the UF is developed further in the Plus. Also the fabric coating that is around the ZoomX in the UF, that channels the ZoomX rebound up and down (instead of out) is also in the Plus. The fabric coating is not on the Plus's ZoomX, but the midsole is engineered to give the up/down rebound of the UF. The platform and dimensions of the two shoes are similar too. You can tell Nike learned alot from the UF. Think of the Plus as a true road version of the UF...it's far far better for that application.

    • @Rich-zb7vc
      @Rich-zb7vc 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@SagasuRunning as you write that, I remembered your review on the UF. I'm not competitive anymore so the weight of the UF is farther down on my list, but I do wonder if they had marketed it as a road trainer (obviously the vibram isn't necessary), what the reception would have been, because it seems tepid, or at least too niche for the engineering/technology they put into it, and price point. It seems like there is a faint coating or a paint application on the Peg+ that mimics the cloth. To your comment on learning from the UF into Peg+, Zoomx is a high payoff foam, that has been very volatile and each iteration seems to learn from the previous and get better and better. Also, commenting on your video, interesting to see the bottom view side to side- The VF3 is curve-lasted adding to the turnover speed whereas the Peg+ is fairly strait-lasted adding to the stability (obviously in a lightweight trained, the add is minimal not like the Structure, but it enhances the stability)

      @Rich-zb7vc The UF, designed as a Weatern States race shoe/super shoe… makes total sense. If you aren’t racing States and/or don’t have their terrain it has fast diminishing returns.
      I do agree, if the UF lost some weight and had a ride outsole… it would have been popular. I have no doubt that the UF and PP were developed concurrently and both projects learned from one another.

    If I'm building a 3 shoe rotation but budget is a concern for me, will the upcoming zoom fly 6 be a gd alternative to the vf3? Or is the plus alone be enough to cover both tempo training and actual race day.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thats up to you, what distances you race and what priority you put on your running/racing. A $170 ZF6 vs a 250 VF3, while that is $80...over the lifetime of the shoe, is it really that much more? Again, I can't say...it's up to you and your priorities.
      On paper a shoe like the ZF6 is Nike's budget racer and tempo trainer. In reality, I honestly don't think much of it as I'd rather use a older super shoe (understood on budget though) or the Peg Plus for trianing.
      The Peg Plus is a good racer for shorter distances, I would have no concern using it as a budget racer for 5/10ks and maybe a half...but anymore than that I'd want a plated shoe.
      You could do worst than a daily trainer/ZF6...but you can do alot better as well (even in a budget). Last years super shoes will be around the same price. You can get a Adidas Adios Pro 3 on sale in many places and that will be an infinitely better tempo trainer or racer than something like a Zoom Fly 6 or Magic Speed 4.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You know, I've been getting this question a bunch lately. To be honest, the comparison never crosses my mind as the two shoes are very different. Is it that they both are plateless and superfoamed?
      In my mind the Peg Plus is the better shoe. I'm not even being all Nike fanboy here. The Peg Plus has a better foam (even the rubberized ZoomX is better), a neutral and flexible midsole, more ground feel, traditional geometry and way less bulk. I've done longer MP (5k blocks) to 200s in it and it is excellent at both and everything in between. As far as a non-plated performance trainer that sits between a daily trainer and a plated race shoe, that can handle a wide range of workouts, it currently can't be equaled.
      Now, I do enjoy the Superblast 2...but it has a much narrow use case. If I'm specifically working on a build for a marathon and I need a non-plated shoe option for some (most?) of my long runs, that can do MP well, that is 100% a SB2. Anything not that exact use case... there is a better option, from Asics or otherwise. I can't imagine doing 200s or 400s in a SB2...even reps of 1k or under are a chore. But a 8-16k block(s) of MP with some easy recovery between...nothing better. I could do that in a Peg Plus and do it well...but the SB2 is the better option.
      Both are not my pick for easy of casual running...though if I had to pick I'd go with the Peg Plus... ligher, more flexible, less rocker...thats what I want for that type of shoe.

      Unclear at the moment. ZoomX is typically good for around 150mi of optimal/racing use and another 150-200mi+ of training, often more. So it should… but that is also dependent on how quickly you wear the outsole. I’ll do a check in on durability after 100mi (160k).

      The Peg41 is turning out to be the most durable Peg in years…. 240k into them and the outsole has plenty to go.
      The Peg Plus is an unknown. I know that formula of ZoomX last a decent amount and the outsole is the same material as the 41…. So we will see.

      At shorter distance, like the test workout I pulled the data from, yes. However, the VF3 will come into it's own after (at least) 16-20k, especially at pace.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've actually covered this in a few videos, this one gets into the "zoning" Nike is doing with the AF and VF midsoles: th-cam.com/video/a-BeVW1ZNLw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=XkiQYToJpG0dOCyf
      It is all about transitions. Even if Nike super shoes (and most super shoes actually) have a forefoot bias....forefoot strikers still heel strike at some point (fatigue, course terrain, corners) so that is there to capture the heel and move the foot smoothly to the forefoot. It also is there as the shoe will be bought and used by midfoot and heel strikers as well.

    Sadly, Nike is arriving way too late for my rotation. None of the new Pegs have released yet and the VF3 released recently for $360. I paid almost half that for my AP3 last year (admittedly, they were discounted). I may entertain the notion of eventually picking up a pair of 41s to rotate with the Rise, especially if my recent toe blisters turn out to be more than just coincidence.

      You know. I've worked quite a bit to strip my videos down to as minimal as I can possibly get them. The workflow and production flow I use took me quite some time to get consistent (I setup and break down for every video).
      This video did have quite a few long segments with the same graphic, which is something I do try to avoid, but I wanted to get the info out first. I use motion graphics VERY sparingly as I often find them distracting for what I do here. Static images I find better as people don't need to pause and I can talk over them (years of agency presentations and slide decks I guess).
      What I do here on TH-cam, isn't broadcast design...so I don't want things moving around all the time. I am conscious of it all though. You highlighted the right thing for me.

    Well.. interesting perspective.
    I think the workout comparison is not that relevant.. you were rested and the distance was small. I can run a fast 1k even in the Nike Coffin (Zoom Fly 5). I do train in them..nothing more proficient at not helping me run faster :).
    If you want more relevance, try the 200-400m intervals with high repeats. Or something above 10k. Towards the end of the workouts you might notice dead foam under your feet in the Peg plus.
    The matrix is interesting. Very interesting! You might need a new one for distance / workout type. For example..I am sure that peg plus is not that good at 10k pace for anything above 5k. While the vaporfly is.
    Building a full nike rotation.. hmm.. maybe next decade.

    • @SagasuRunning
      @SagasuRunning  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, the workout is a test workout, not an actual workout. However, it is very relevant as those are the types of paces I'd need a shoe to cover in training. I actually have 200s in the workout too, which I'll cover in the larger data video.
      I often used the Streakfly for workouts like 10x400 or 15x200, mostly on the road, sometimes on the track. Based on that work I'm very confident that the Peg Plus will be a better option for that work. The VF3 is often faster, especially for 400s and 800s, but again it's about training stimulus. Having the option between the two, plated and non-plated, is whats important here.
