Fellow runner here. In my mind the most beautiful part of running is when someone with supreme conditioning and ability makes it look absolutely effortless..
But when I'm in the race, I'm disgusted by them - in my mind I can accept people being better runners than me, being able to go farther / quicker... what I struggle with is how easy they make it look! They should have at least some of my breathlessness and pain 😂😂

To a veteran (age 65) masters competitor like me, this is a thrilling and highly educational video. My 5K PR as a mid-20-something was 17:27, so I never got to experience the vibe up front, as it were. For that reason alone, you've gifted an Old Guy with a front-row seat, and I thank you for that. But I love your stream-of-consciousness narration, which resonates strongly, I'm sure, with many of us who love competition, at whatever speed, and are canny enough to keep our powder dry for the moment when we make our move. I was amazed, frankly, when you left your young competitor in the dust at the beginning of mile 3. His stride was fantastic, as you noted. Yours is serviceable. But here, too, you taught us something, which is that the "right" body, the "right" stride, isn't the only thing that counts. Training counts; heart counts; racing strategy counts. Please continue! This is inspiring.

I'm glad I came across your video! I have just finished a 5k parkrun and after not running and training for 2 years your step by step narration really resonated with me. Haven't felt that level for adrenaline for a long time. Last 2 km Sufferfest 😂

Amazed by Morgans elegant stride but couldn't help but think about how much effort he was using to keep the stride so long and the cadence comparably low. A little fine tune and I think he could've pushed you even further! Herculean effort, Nick.

Ive never ran before and want to take part in a 5k run in 6 weeks time. Ive got a plan of what to do every week. Seeing this experience runner struggle, im like eekk how would I be? Ok i wont be fast, I just want to challenge myself, no matter what time I finish. But will be amazing if i can do it in 30mins. Took me an hour to do light jog with some walking for my first time ever. Hehe but how i even did that was constantly saying to myself i can do it, this is easy, you are a winner, you won, you are there, you already got this. I swear to God believe and positive words helped soooo much.

Love the footage really showing both lead runners from great angles. I E got to say Nick, comparing strides, Morgan’s does look nicer (it is pro like) and almost surprising he didn’t win. Top running Nick to take the win. Love the commentary too, really helps us other runners to hear your state of mind to compare to our own in the same scenario

Oh man! I did a Battersea 5km recently (we saw you actually! running the opposite direction), missed out on my target (sub 18'30"), and those thoughts totally recognisable and for sure held me back. I need to go back and use these tips for sure. The suffering! So true.

Loved this video, one of the most honest and informative look into elite running I've seen on TH-cam. Currently between projects and this really inspired me to set a new target. So funny how the mental games are identical no matter the ability, I've thought all those exact things mid-race before!
