    If you had to pick one game that you think is underplayed/underappreciated, what would it be?

      Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair. The first game flopped incredibly hard after raising a lot of money with a kickstart, which made people (want to) forget about this series. I think they really stepped up their game with the Impossible Lair and it's sad to see the low'ish sales numbers.

      I'm pretty sure I own The Impossible Lair you know but I haven't actually played it. I'll definitely have to install it now and check it out!

      Monolith. It's a top down shoot em up roguelike similar in structure to Enter the Gungeon. In short, Monolith builds on the lessons of all of the roguelikes that came before it, takes the best aspects from each of them and concentrates them down into their purest form. It's the modern roguelike at its finest, and I feel its the only game is on par with Spelunky in that regard. However, despite being in the top 500 for player reviews on steam and being incredibly reasonably priced with a phenomenal DLC that actually feels like a proper expansion, Monolith is criminally underplayed and seldom discussed. Everyone who plays it loves it, I just wish more people played it and discussed it.

      @@Table53 If you like DK Country, you'll like this, since it's made by the same creative team. You can truly see the similarities between the games while each of them still feels like their own game (if that makes sense). Hope you'll enjoy :)

    • @Table53
      @Table53  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You've made that sound incredible. I was about to say I've never even heard of it but apparently it was already on my Steam wishlist anyway (showing how that list is far too long haha)
      Would you recommend it to someone who enjoyed Enter the Gungeon but is also unbelievably bad at It? Asking for a friend..

    Seeing Rocket League makes me pretty sad. If I didn't have to create an Epic Games Store account to play it, I would have continued to pour 20-30 hours into it a week. I agree it is basically the best sports game ever made, I hope to play it in the future again, but we'll see.

    • @Table53
      @Table53  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah that was a little annoying, especially new players not being able to play the game through the Steam client because Epic is far inferior on that front! But also it's just far too good for me to stop playing and my brother really wants us to finally hit Grand Champ haha..
      I suppose the upside is that it now being free to play there will be new people who get a chance to try it out

    Great video! all of those games look awesome and I definetly have to play Journey...
    I think you would enjoy Manifold garden. It's a surreal 6 hour puzzle game that gives of the same zen vibe as the floor is jelly, with gorgeous colours and architecture.
    Also, have you ever considered making a discord server? I'd totally join that.

    Hi. I'm glad I somehow came across your channel. After watching your review of Wildermyth, I went to your channel to look at your videos. Now I'm here - and plan on watching several more videos today. Talk about hidden gems - I'm really enjoying your channel. Thank you!
    There are several titles here that I've not heard of - Perspective, Intergalactic Fishing and The Floor Is Made Of Jelly. Also, despite having heard a lot about it, I've yet to play Factorio (although I do own it's cousin Satisfactory, which I also have yet to play). I look forward to looking into these games!
    Now, onto part two.

      Thank you, that's really nice to hear! I really enjoy putting out videos on these more niche titles that not a lot of people will have been able to see before
      Factorio is a superb game. I've not played Satisfactory, because I know how much time I was willing to spend playing Factorio and I worry that I'd want to put a similar number of hours into Satisfactory as well haha

    Journey is outdated. I can send you a list of better games that came after Journey, I played it a few month ago and I really wasn't impressed at all, It is a good game but over hyped in my opinion.

    • @Table53
      @Table53  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm always up for more short experience type games, although I actually completely disagree! I don't think there's been a single non-verbal walking sim/art game that's managed to top Journey as an overall experience and I've certainly never played on that manages to elevate its storytelling *with* its gameplay in the way that Journey does!

    • @Table53
      @Table53  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Definitely going to make a video on Rocket League eventually because I've never really heard anyone talk about the game in this way despite being (for me at least) a huge part of why its so good to play! Only issue is I've never been able to record smooth footage of it haha

    • @FlavourFool
      @FlavourFool 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Table53 Yeah it's worth analysing. It works because you are learning to use something that is an extension of your body, to do something. It wouldn't be the same if there was a shoot button. Yes, there are other buttons that perform actions, but the main part of the game is actually performing actions, just like if you were playing a sport in real life.

    • @Table53
      @Table53  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FlavourFool Agree completely! That's exactly what I loved about games like Swing Soccer / Bumper Car Football and other Flash games years before Rocket League came out.. the full control of your character that allowed ideas like shots and saves to emerge from the gameplay.
      I remember playing those games in ~2009 wishing there was a good 3D car football game, turned out I would need to wait a few years for SARPBC and Rocket League haha

    I'm currently really appreciating Monster Sanctuary. Light metroidvania meets monster collecting + turn based battles. When I first heard that pitch, I thought it might sound like it's trying to do too much, but the core battling is solid and the rest is built out around that, including monsters having unique exploration abilities tied to the game's progression. Playing on Switch but it's also on PC.

    • @Table53
      @Table53  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've heard of Monster Sanctuary, it does sound pretty cool! The monster hunting + combat looks good, how good is the metroidvania/2d platformer aspect? Is it a solid part of the game or does it feel like a "stuff before the next fight"?

    • @CFHM_HarrisonD
      @CFHM_HarrisonD 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Table53 the platforming is definitely unrefined. It's precise (no floating issues), but it doesn't have any ledge forgiveness - like some games will still register a jump for a few frames after you leave the ledge. But there were no sections that felt too punishing platforming wise.
      The exploration is secondary to the combat but by no means tacked on. Most abilities come from monsters which are fairly easy to swap without diving into menus which is a huge plus. And the map is huge with plenty of secrets and "come back here when you get X" things which I felt excited to go back and get. Specifically, there are rare monsters and secret bosses later on.

    • @Table53
      @Table53  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CFHM_HarrisonD Ah yes, coyote time, definitely one of those simple things that makes platformers more satisfying! The movement abilities coming from the monsters seems like a neat idea, it sounds like it forces an interesting approach to party building if you have to think about fighting and traversal!
      All I need now is more time to play all these new games :(

    • @CFHM_HarrisonD
      @CFHM_HarrisonD 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Table53 Yes, we all need more time!
      I should clarify that your battle party and exploration monster and independent. You can swap any at any time without needing to go to a specific location.
      And yes. Coyote time! I forgot the name. The fighting is also 3v3 and based around charging up 'combos' that build off multiple hits. Each hit in combat makes the next monster's attack do something like +10% more damage per hit in the attack.
      And i forgot to mention skill trees. Each monster has a huuuge mostly unique skill tree.
      Okay, I'm gonna go back to playing this and not try to sell it any harder to someone with just as little time as myself

    • @Table53
      @Table53  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To stick with your metaphor I think multiplayer component is like a cherry on top haha. It is wonderful sharing the journey with another player, but also I think that every other part of Journey's storytelling is so strong that you could play the game offline and still experience all the powerful emotions that make the game what it is!

      @Table53  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've been deliberately avoiding Rimworld for so long, I just know how much time I end up investing in games with quality "procedural storytelling" or however it would be described. Between that and Rocket League I could lose all the time I need for games for this channel haha
      Luckily games don't have expiration dates so I'm sure I'll jump into that rabbit hole at some point!
