No, she’s not. In a city the cost of monthly parking or hassle of moving vehicle for street cleaning, danger of break-ins and vandalism, plus gas, insurance, maintenance. 47:50 You picked a side in your parent’s relationship and that was clearly your mom’s. I mean you started the story by saying how he cheated on her and understandably that hurt you. But, you knew exactly what you were doing when you gave the entire down payment to your mom. Own it and move on instead of calling strangers to validate your actions. I say this from a place do love because I believe you can repair the relationship with dad but it probably won’t happen if you don’t own intentionally hurting him.
Yes and no. She left out some information that's clearly pertinent to the decision to give mom the full amount when she could've split it among them. I'm on the fence without that additional information.
-1:07:14 I bet John was biting at the bit to tell that lady she has a marriage issue/to get counseling/tell her husband she can’t breathe. Lol and Dave just cuts through her crap and tells her she’s being emotional lol loved it
I think it might be the revese. They live in DC, chose an expensive area close to work with metro access and they do the occasional Zip Car rental on the weekend. The recent car was a piece of crap and that pissed off hubs. So he got a car, against their plan.
The woman is wrong. She is trying to force her husband to live the lifestyle she wants to live (telling people our family doesn’t own a car) and he doesn’t want to do it. If you are regularly renting cars, you need a car.
I feel for the lady in Washington. If Dave would have let her respond, I think he would have learned that even though she isn't in the Seattle area, anything close to that area (and in the entire state of Washington actually) is quite expensive. She even tried to say that she had been looking for property for a couple of years before she was cut off. I do hope she can find something but the reality is that most western states are very expensive for older people to look to purchase a home. Very unfortunate and frustrating for sure.
Get a construction management MBA here in the USA. Make it your mission to get employed by a Multi-national engineering firm after you complete your MBA. Make your way to EUROPE. ORRRRRR Eliminate all your debt, and buy a house in a European country. Houses are cheap. You can get a condo/house for less than 100K
I guess it depends on where in "Europe" we are talking about. Where I live in western Germany, you pay about 500-850k Euros (540k-918k USD) for an average 80m² appartment.

I kinda followed your financial plans. After 30+ years my student loan is paid off. We were stupid with our money over the years and after my husband passed in late 2017 I took a job in TX and thought I would get it paid off then but it didn't happen. I left that job to take care of my mom when her nursing home closed but before I could get back to her, she passed in 2020 and then COVID hit. I took survivor benefits from my husband and did not work for all of 2020. I did start working minimum wage jobs in 2021-2023. Then I lucked out getting a job back in TX in August 2023. At that time I had enough of everything. I paid off $7k in credit card debt. I just paid off $18k in student loan debt in May 2024 after 30+ years. My truck will be paid off in two years I did buy a house this year since it is half the cost of renting here. I bought down the interest rate to 6% and I'm fixing it up so in two years I can sell it at a greater profit. Some times people just have to hit rock bottom like I did to finally do something about it. I'm 65 this year and can't retire. I make after taxes, health insurance, etc about $2,200 every other week. I use one full pay check paying my mortgage, utilities, truck payment and car insurance. The other check I will now start putting into the bank for retirement. I don't eat out but once every other week. If I want something I make sure it is absolutely necessary and I get it second-hand. I'm doing the rice and tuna fish diet - don't like beans. And my goal is not to retire until I have $100k and debt free totally before I retire.. I will get about $3k from social security so even if they cut it back by 30% I'll be okay. If I can do it, any body can do it.
I did not listen early enough to become a millionaire but I saved 100,000 in good mutual funds before I retired. My income is 2500 a month on Social Security, no pension and I am fine. Debt-free for a long time with a paid for house. You will be OK!
So the land they built on was deeded to them and the others can not put a lien on it. Walk Away ! Not worth the negativity, hurt and pain. No money no manipulation. Just live on what you have.
The teacher north of Seattle needs to just buy a mobile home cash with the money she already has. She has $100k it wouldn’t take all of that. Maybe not even half. Then she is out of debt and can actually consider retirement.
Sis should’ve split the down payment. You didn’t give your dad his portion of the down payment because you were punishing him for cheating on your mom.
The homestead was protected by investment of different people. Today the ownership should be divided by the percentage invested when purchased back from the bank.
Europe man , just go ! Don’t listen to these people saying you need to work . If you have savings and can afford to focus only on your masters and have a break in Europe then DO IT! Be realistic with yourself about the good and the bad abroad !! Stay focused on your education and take the break you need! If you feel like you don’t have enough savings get a part time job out there 🤷♀️🤷♀️ I don’t believe someone can’t have a year break . Of course they can! We are human and he is NOT guarantee tomorrow’! So take that vacation and get your masters in peace not everyone can work and do school at the same time! And that’s OK!!! You’re not too old go do it!!! ❤❤
2:00:00 No Dave... (I sound like "HAL 9000" from "2001: A Space Odyssey") BRK shares (later called BRK.A) were getting to expensive (now about $610,668) for anyone to buy. So another lot of shares (BRK.B) were created at a faction of the price (now about $407.10) to allow more people/entities to invest more affordably. I believe these were crated from the float of an existing company and renamed.
I don’t really like the way they talked about Europe as if it’s not a nice place to live! I have been to the USA 🇺🇸 but I prefer to live in Europe! Daniel from New York can make good money in Europe and enjoy life better in Europe! Good luck Daniel 👌🏻
Ummm she gave her mother the down payment back and told her she could choose to split it with her father. She should have just split it! Dad’s not wrong here I’m sorry!
I would love a follow up on some of these stories, like the son who's father borrowed $40k. I want to know if this father is going to be a decent person and own up to the loan & pay him back or if he's a coward and tried to use excuses...
Skagit Valley is not inexpensive anymore. Huge housing shortage here, thanks to the Sesttle market. Wish Dave was listening better when Linda kept saying that.
Exactly. There’s no place within driving distance that is “cheap”. I’m just over the border in Canada - very similar prices to Bellingham WA - and am a Canadian millionaire only because I bought a very basic older starter house in my 20s that is today worth over a million. (30 yrs later)
Don’t rub the cruise in 😭 haha jk 😜 we can go in 26’ but not next year! Please keep doing it y’all! Wanna hang out with good folks like y’all. And I’m biased but y’all would love our little fam aboard 😊❤
That lady was pissed that her husband got a used old car he could easily afford instead of catching the bus or renting a car for the rest of their lives like they agreed they’d do.
Daniel, pls. take your gap year abroad & get your masters degree! You've worked diligently, will still have income from your rentals, & deserve a wonderful life experience at a young age. Youll come out w/ a very marketable advanced degree when alls said & done, whether you return stateside or not. As long as you dont go into debt, go for it!😊
I work fulltime, and taken care of a family during which even through baby years, I got my MBA and working on my 2nd masters. That dude can go to school and work. Man up!
That would be dumb. He’s intentionally building the company around other personalities as he ages so that it can continue and do well even when he retires/ passes
I'm glad Dave called that lady out on picking on her husband for buying a $9000 car when they make a huge income. Dave was right. She's being emotional instead of addressing the real issue. I bet shes the saver in the family or she doesn't like the car or both..😊
Dave is awesome. Great financial advice. But I only like Rachel as a co-host because she actually thinks for herself rather than just echoing Dave like others. Delony is insufferable.
I only listen when it's Rachel and I only listen to Ken's replies when he's giving advice about jobs. George is a snob and makes comments that I find offensive, like only going garage sales in good neighborhoods because those are the people who have good stuff. Jade gives great advice but I can't stand her interjections like she's saying "amen" at a church. The thing that bothers me about all the cohosts is that they forget to say things that Dave would have. They all need cheat sheets. So fortunately now I can tell if Dave's going be on because I only listen my car. Yelling when one of them says something stupid, unfortunately, doesn't activate the off button lol.
Same - I don't watch any other shows. I'm sure they see the numbers. I will occasionally watch a Rachel/Jade/George combo show, but Ken Koleman- no thanks.
@@cookieforawookieI purposely seek out. Ken Coleman. I have watched him mature as an anchor for the Ramsey solutions. He is exactly what some people need.
Crystal - as a daughter who received my dad’s inheritance and also help my parents, I find it disgusting what she and her mom did to him. I would have given him the money too. I find her entitlement just bc she helped out her parents during the hard time. This is definitely cultural. Asians would help their parents irregardless.
The kid /young man wanting to go to Europe. If you’re not married and no kids yet while doing so well.. you should definitely go. Whether it’s school or work.. one of the rare times I don’t agree with the advice given
Wait, did i miss something on the call about the daughter giving all 35k to the mom and then blaming the dad for being upset ? I dont think they asked about it. I feel whoever didn't get anything would be right to feel upset about it since it seems like you prefer the other parent. Why leave it up to the mother? You are the one who whats a relationship with your dad, your mom no longer have one.
I just could not get to the crux of the matter with the woman who was worried about the trust fund... If they have a great life right now and they lose out on any benefit from the trust oh well..
It is a legal question for an attorney and, once again, the RS people answer questions they are not qualified to answer - and this team seems totally unable to say, "I don't know. You will need to check with an attorney on this one." The lady was calling in about an irrevocable trust which is different from a revocable trust. In general, a revocable trust can be changed at will, but an irrevocable trust cannot be changed without securing the permission of the beneficiaries as well. So she should be fine, unless there is some forgery going on with the original documents. I don't know if she has a copy of those or not. If she does not, the cost to hire an attorney to actually claim the money might cost her all the money that she is concerned about. What she could do for less money is simply to hire an attorney to see if the irrevocable trust is still in force or if it has been changed and then decide how to proceed from there. However, attorney's fees generally are upward of $500 and hour and that adds up fast.
She moved to be near them and they thought life would be one way and it wasn't. It sounds to me that those parents might be in the beginning stages of dementia because physical violence sometimes does occur when people get that confused. A lot of people aren't good at figuring out what to do. I think they got great advice. Move and just let it go. And I like when he said about keeping it in your head. It's difficult to stop your brain from doing that if but they could both agree on letting go, both see a therapist to get some advice on how to do that It would be a big help. I wish them luck.
Linda - you might need to move to another state. There are still states where you can purchase a decent house for less than $150,000. If you have a low income and few assets, in many cities like the one where my Mom lives, you do not have to pay real estate taxes. That could be a savings of $300 a month - and you would not have that advantage if renting. Also, you can continue to work from home part-time for several more years or you could rent out one room if you found the right kind of house and the right person. Taking care of your financial future is the most important step for you right now. Even if you have to move away from family, they can come and visit you. Take a 30 year mortgage if that's all you can qualify for and make extra principal payments. You sound motivated enough to pay it off as soon as you can. YOU are responsible for YOU.
I disagree with Dave that creating a competing agency and then inheriting clients from your previous employer is thievery. I shouldn’t be villainized if part of a fee market likes me better than it likes you. I wouldn’t do it to family, but I’d absolutely poach clients from previous employers if I can do a better job.
She should have split the down payment between them both since they both gave her the down payment. I feel the daughter was wrong to only give it to the Dad. She was only mad becauase Dad cheated on Mom. She was wrong for that.
I got an interject one very important thing here. Second call I believe maybe first Carla I’m not sure 25 years old. He has put in enough time in the system to have a mess all the money he has and everything else he’s talked about. He’s not old enough by any means flat out face face lie
When will people learn not to build on a property that is not theirs? Or move because they want to be close to their family? People change and people get mad so why upset your life over nothing? Move Where you want to live don't move near your friends or family just in a nice place where you don't know anyone and you're happy to live there and you build your own life. Stop trying to build a life from movies.

I appreciate the family money values in place

I feel for the lady in Washington. If Dave would have let her respond, I think he would have learned that even though she isn't in the Seattle area, anything close to that area (and in the entire state of Washington actually) is quite expensive. She even tried to say that she had been looking for property for a couple of years before she was cut off. I do hope she can find something but the reality is that most western states are very expensive for older people to look to purchase a home. Very unfortunate and frustrating for sure.

My truck will be paid off in two years
I did buy a house this year since it is half the cost of renting here.
Be proud of yourself. You have a great plan. Sending love and strength. ❤
@@naomiemoore5725 thank you.

That’s my thought too
Agreed! She was really being fair and unbiased then she would’ve split the downpayment between both.
💯 💯 I find it strange they didn’t mention this on air.

Her dad cheated on her mom and probably destroyed his wife's world. In my eyes, her mom probably needed the money more.

To be fair, it’s unlikely his daughter has the same pressures or potential to be fired, as the others have. No wonder she doesn’t need to “echo” Dave.
(BS7) cannot stand to listen to Rachel. Whenever she is on, I pass.

Uncle Rico
I disagree with Dave that creating a competing agency and then inheriting clients from your previous employer is thievery. I shouldn’t be villainized if part of a fee market likes me better than it likes you. I wouldn’t do it to family, but I’d absolutely poach clients from previous employers if I can do a better job.
She should have split the down payment between them both since they both gave her the down payment. I feel the daughter was wrong to only give it to the Dad. She was only mad becauase Dad cheated on Mom. She was wrong for that.

When will people learn not to build on a property that is not theirs? Or move because they want to be close to their family? People change and people get mad so why upset your life over nothing? Move Where you want to live don't move near your friends or family just in a nice place where you don't know anyone and you're happy to live there and you build your own life.
