      35 years old and debt free (including house as of May 31). It hasn't really sunk in yet. We bought in 2016 for $130k. House is now worth $250k. It's "only" 1500 square feet (small for today's standards) but it also no longer comes with the $711 of principal + interest payments each month. Dave is right that we've lost our minds in terms of what a good standard of living means today.

    I was in foreclosure, had to file bankruptcy, was sick, lost my job, you name it! I started listening to Dave who made me mad or cry! But I kept listening & began unscrambling my brain, saving every penny under my mattress, bought NOTHING, no cable, no eating out, etc etc. I was able to save $40,000 on $500/mo in 7 years & bought a fixer upper house for $9200 in a nice area. That was 7 yrs ago, I'm 69 year old female, I love my home, I have no debt, my house is worth 10xs more now & I am thankful for Dave Ramsey show!

    "Ramsey girls are smart and pretty" that made me cry, it's so beautiful. I don't have a relationship with my father or my step-father. They were both bad examples of what a father or spouse should look like. It just occurred to me as the now mother of 3 boys that I need to tell my boys more often what my father figures never told me. My boys are smart, handsome and kind.

    • @Scott-got-caught
      @Scott-got-caught ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I think boys need different affirmations, such as: masculine, ambitious and respected. You are priming them for the rest of their lives...eventually they will find women, friends, and employers. All of which would much prefer a masculine, ambitious and respected man, as opposed to a smart, kind, handsome guy, which is okay but it's very beta (less desirable in the eyes of society). Their future girlfriends, employers and friends will treat them better in society if they are masculine, ambitious, successful, and respected by others. It's important because society treats people better and therefore has more privileges attached

    • @topsykretts2264
      @topsykretts2264 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@Scott-got-caught that makes no sense whatsoever. A guy can be handsome, smart, and kind while still being masculine, ambitious, and respected. Those attributes are not mutually exclusive. If you’re talking about extremes say an Andrew Tate vs James Charles then I would agree with you on being more “masculine”. Also society needs more kind men who are willing to show their sensitive side instead of holding it in. That’s why you have men who grow up to be angry and violent.

    • @Scott-got-caught
      @Scott-got-caught ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@topsykretts2264 a well balanced masculine man is still sensitive, kind, etc however, the masculine man is not heavily dominant in those traits and doesn't need to be. The feminine balances that out. A man is expected to lead and the feminine is expected to follow. This will ensure harmony in the dynamic between the two.

    I had a "friend" who looked at me as a bank or transportation. I gave her $30 and said, "I don't want this back, but don't ask me for money again." And I gave her TTMM book. The next weekend she was right back at it. I said, "You're on your own." Surprise! We are no longer friends. But I have friends who still give her money (who can ill afford to). That seven year old is now smart beautiful and 'mean'. Instead of understood. That from her perspective she doesn't need self-esteem help, so like it's insulting to receive it. She doesn't know what predators are. She doesn't know that the real world can be deeply humbling and that failure is not her fault. Noone has explained to her yet how to make meaning out of that. That you are wanting her to know that there may be a test that's too hard for her some day, but that you are training her to question her self-doubt if and when it comes up. Cuz she doesn't have self-doubt yet. So you gotta pay attention for teachable moments and cheer her on then. Instead what most parents do is: i thought I taught you to be smart, shame on you for making a mistake. Right in the very moment they should have been bringing it all together and saying: alright, everybody gets challenged in life, but I've known you your whole life, and I know you to be smart, what do you think about this challenge?

    Part of the issue with student loan forgiveness numbers is that to know where you stand as far as how many qualifying payments you have left, they require you apply to have the whole thing forgiven. The vast majority of the 750k didn’t apply thinking they’d be forgiven at that point. They applied to know where in the process they are. As of Jan, 2022, 463k students have had their loans forgiven. This is not me saying to wait to pay your student loans, because you shouldn’t wait 10 years to start your life and there’s no guarantee that the program will exist in the furtive. Just pointing out the number Dave cites has changed a lot in the last year.

    Brandon, were I in your shoes, I would give the $100 (as I have the means to atm) and I would gift either TMM, or Ramsey Plus or direct to the podcast (depending on the person and your financial situation), and say that I won’t loan money again as it goes against my personal values. If/when the person gets angry, I would calmly say, “I’m really sorry you feel that way. When you calm down and want to talk nicely again, come back to me.” Then remove yourself from any further negative engagement with them. Don’t respond, walk away, until they come back calmly/nicely. And they also stop asking for money. If they can’t do that, then you potentially lose the relationship. But you did the right thing. And if they love you, they WILL come back. Good luck xx

    That's a problem with religion. It tells you to pray and wait around for some deity to fix your life for you, but it might not ever happen, or if it does, it could take too many years before it happens, and that's no way to live life. It's better to be self-reliant and get things done on your own than rely on some deity that may or may not exist.

    • @MichaelJM
      @MichaelJM 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think you're describing a problem with how some people may teach or view religion and not a problem with religion. I certainly don't think religion teaches people to pray and wait for good things to fall into their lap. It teaches people to draw strength and guidance from a higher power to better themselves. And that takes work. It's not a passive exercise.

      Tax dollars pay for adoptions through foster care. (At least here in Alabama) The adoptive parents are taking a child out of the system and saving the tax payers money in the long run. That's how we adopted our child.

      Here it is not totally free. You are responsible for certain fees but it's nowhere near the cost of going through a private adoption. However just getting the certification to become a Foster home can easily take a $1000 + by the time you get everything set up. Some charge for classes and you usually some modifications of your home.. Some require correct number and size of beds so there is some cost. Basic clothing (the clothing allowance is a joke) car seats etc Though I feel if you can't afford the basics you can't afford the child.

      Try living without money for a while. I've had to scratch and scrape to pay bus fare for my kids. I walked because I couldn't afford the bus for myself to go to work. I've had to ration food and hot water. We had no phone and no tv and no consumer debt. I worked a full time job and every weekend gig I could get.
      Being financially secure is a blessing! It gives me great pleasure to work and play with my money.
      It's also priceless to know that I (semi-retired) have enough money to outlive me and leave a legacy.
