I love 7 but to me this was a more emotional death scene than Aerith. Shadowbringers and Endwalkers story telling was done so well.

Refused to “return to the planet” after her time as Azem, then decided she would grant apotheosis to suffering itself. Venat did all in her power to prevent the restoration of Etheirys and omit the endsinging Meteia were the actual problem. How is she not the villain?
Elidibus did nothing wrong...except fail.
Because the Ancients lost the importance of life. They were willing to sacrifice almost all life on the planet to return it to before the destruction of the End Times. Rather than accept the pain of life and continue moving forwards, they turned their back on suffering and the wonder of life, for something that was over.
That’s Hermes’ entire issue with everything, and why he sent the Meteia out into the universe. If life can be broken down without care using their creation magic, is life even worth living when there’s no real purpose to it.
You see the problem come up in the last area of the Dead Ends. A race who no longer had any sort of emotional connection to life because it was blissful always. There was nothing to left for them to say “Hey today was a good day” because there was never anything negative. The Ancients were heading into that direction.
Venat didn’t want the people of Etheirys getting to the point of pure apathy for life where it had no meaning. So she took away their wings and forced them to walk, to see that life has so much more to it. Even though there is suffering, and life can feel small or too short, there are beautiful moments that you can’t help but marvel at their wonder. The smile of a friend, the way the sun makes a rainbow, fish in a pond; beautiful but small. The Ancients were losing sight of that, and with Hermes and the events of Elpis, it really proved Venat’s worries
She continued to help people because though she felt her time as Azem was up, the people she'd come to know and love still needed her. She took into account Emit's reaction when we told him of the future and decided the best course was not to tell him. Hermes created the being that is the threat so she decided it was best not to tell him. In all actuality she used our recounting of events a a blue print to give humanity a chance at survival. By sundering the world she gave us the ability to tap into Dynamis which lead to our victory. Her actions as she said herself were cruel and for that she is sorry but she didnt see another way with the time she had.
She was far from a villian...
