Everything is turned on and my HUD and screen is a cluttered MESS. I have been trying to figure out how to fix things and every single video I go to DOESN'T properly show how to change or only shows short cuts, not to mention most of it is for PC players but at least you explain things that I can understand and apply to console for most settings. Some settings I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW about it and I have been trying to figure out how some people color things, mark things and GET RID of so many texts commands and crap popping off on my darn TV. I have been SUPER scared going into my settings and clicking things that WEREN'T what I wanted and this video honestly is a blessing for me. in PVP specifically i would recommend seeing all combat effects, too many times have i died to seemingly nothing, then i realized i had limited effects on in pvp
I'm a WoW player so for me i always press mouse right button. When i press A and D my character runs Left or Right without Legacy setting, and if i need to run back i turn my camera 180 degree and run, not sure if it is efficient way but so far nothing hit me if i'm not late to leave a mechanic. I'm more used to rotate my camera angle than using WASD
If you're already used to it and it reaches the same results then you're good to go. I also use standard movement cuz I'm a main melee player (both tank and melee dps) so if I want to run from enemies, instead of running straight in the opposite direction, I just turn my camera 90° either left or right and just strafe run and my hands and muscle memory are already used to it to the point I have no problem doing that at all. I got used to it due to WoW since you can't dodge/parry/block attacks when you're hit in the back so running away from enemies by strafing was the best thing to do since you could both run, attack, and dodge/parry/block at the same time.
I was a little confused by that part, maybe I don't remember changing it to mimic my WoW setup, but I'm on Standard and A and D are strafe not turn, I turn with the mouse by holding right-click like you said. And anyone not familiar that's not default in WoW either, A and D are turn and Q and E are strafe like he described in the video, but I changed it back in vanilla like I assume a lot of people did.
Played WoW before FFXIV as well, and I used Standard movement from when ARR was new, and all the way up to Shadowbringers - until I did a specific savage raid fight with teleporting, and with legacy it became so much easier to control where you ended up. Haven't looked back since, and there's a lot more room for uptime against Gaze mechanics etc with legacy compared to standard. It's also really useful for content like deep dungeons, to keep an eye on your surroundings while fighting enemies.
@@Azeur the thing i noticed with gaze mechanics is that i can start casting, look away from the gaze mechanic, and then look back before the spell finishes casting and it will go off, which is only possible with standard mode. another thing with standard is the is the ability to strafe while not looking away or, specially for ranged jobs like bard or dancer, to walk and look away from the enemy while shotting at it. no more gaze hehe. literally shooting backwards
thanks for Mouse sonar, Azu! i remember healing myself around 6 times instead of a tank, because while i was rotating my camera, my mouse was on my character XD.
Some good tips here, especially with the role colours and all. Been playing for years and had no idea, this makes it so much easier to find the healer for extreme trials lol

To answer the controller key-bind question, R3 is what alters menu size. It works in both hud layout and when in specific menus (crafting log for example).
Another small thing, because as a new (3 months) player, I really like looking at what other people are wearing and seeing how it looks on my character, the character window and the "Try On" window can be scaled up to give you a better look. Just right click the header and and select "Scale Window" from the drop down.

Standard is absolutely my go to as usual for this game! Nothing beats being able to have full control over your character's movement while also having strong control over the camera too & it feels so versatile & convenient with the way my settings & keybinds are. You can also just hold RMB & it allows A and D to strafe, so my character movement is more precise and fluid. Tried Legacy years ago but it felt too clunky for me, personally.
@@mcbill7352 For me on this game in particular it feels that way for sure. Every other MMORPG I've played for over 15 years now I have used Legacy, but for FFXIV I strongly prefer Standard this time around.

Just to add about the fashion accessories coming out and getting rid of your hotbar. You can unsheath your weapon with "z" as well and return your hotbar. Re-sheath again to bring outthe umbrella :)
On standard setting, if you hold the right mouse button on the mouse and press a "turn" button, your character strafes, so you don't actually need extra keybinds for strafe. Not saying it's superior, every person has their own preference and should play with what they're comfortable playing with.
it may sound stupid but possibly the most useful thing for me in this list since I had a few of them implemented already, has to be the mouse sonar. Being in the middle of the raid, trial or dungeon boss battle and losing my mouse on the screen has happened far too many more times than I would ever be willing to admit Edit: Nevermind, reached the part of the focus target bars and I have to say the mouse sonar is now on the 2nd place
Even though I quit the game some time ago I still enjoy these types of videos, they are relaxing to me and I love discovering new settings and customizable stuff (I knew all of these from previous videos minus the new expansion tips) I'd like to try to play again especially to see the new graphics but I don't want to pay the subscription, maybe I'll play the free trial again with a new account lol. I quit because the game looked very bad and the story was super boring (I reached almost the end of shadowbringers MSQ after going through the stormblood slop).
You're not a bad player, I just grew up with how a WoW TH-camr said how he played during Cata, he only used QWE and Mouse for movement. I still use it to this day but if I didn't have an MMO mouse you'd be correct.
0:30 - Here's a tip. Use your mouse. Hold right click and you can strafe. Hold right click to turn around and then press W or hold left click at the same time to run away. I never lift my right mouse button in content and I find it wild how many people seemingly don't use their mouse to control their character.
I use my mouse to click on characters, place floor-target skills, and click skills too far away from my left hand. I find it wild that you face away from the boss at any point in time.
Thank You! A lot of useful tips in this video, but I needed pet resizing the most right now. The fun of summoning Bahamut/Titan etc wears of quickly when I can't see what I'm doing because of them XD
Really useful video- would really benefit from timestamps for all the different points you cover- I find myself wanting to come back for a point that I can't quite remember, but also don't remember where it was in the video.
The main benefit of legacy movement is related to how your character moves in combat. With standard movement, it is almost impossible to run and range throw. As soon as you attack the enemy, you will run towards it automatically, spinning your camera wildly sometimes. This is particularly inconvenient for tanks doing wall-to-wall pulls. Legacy movement does not do this and you can attack the enemy without being forcefully turned (your camera) and mainly, it doesn't force your character to run in that direction. I found this out the hard way as I started doing Savage content whilst still using standard and kept running off of the edge of the map on accident on P10S due to the forced change in direction when you attack. Legacy is superior by far and should be the base setting.
I've always found the legacy vs standard option highly subjective. It really depends on how you use mouse and keyboard. I use right click camera movement at all times to rotate my character, which I find for me is faster than legacy, and it strafes by default anyway so you don't need to bind strafe to A or D. It also allows me to make fine adjustments to my position.
You dont need keybinds to strafe on standard, you just hold right mouse button and then move left and right. The biggest advantage of standard is that you can move around and rotate your camera without having to rotate your character. When you press forward your character just moves forward, its not awkwardly tied to your camera's facing. That being said, legacy is way better in combat for obvious reasons. There is a plugin (Simple Tweaks) allows you to auto swap between the two movement settings depending on if you are in combat or not. I highly suggest that for people who like me enjoys the out of combat movement of standard but the advantages of legacy in combat. Square Enix should just add this as an option for people.
You're not doing anything wrong, these settings are all to tailor everything to your own style, but I find it amusing that we prefer almost entirely the totally opposite settings for so many things. XD
@@NeocrimsonX that or for some odd reason you've become somewhat accustomed to the settimgs and it feels different after changing them. 😂 Ps. This was me, confusing for awhile.
I prefer standard, that does not make me think you are a bad player, but the reason I prefer it is primarily while tanking, say I need to move backwards out of an aoe that I am on the edge of getting out of but there is also the edge of the arena behind me with a small sliver of safe space to stand in, I prefer the slower "backpedal" to more precisely make sure I do not full speed run off the arena while also not overdoing it with the animation of my character turning around adding unnecessary movement to distract the eyes throwing off your perception of where you character's placement actually is. Also I did set A and D to strafe but that does not remove my ability to turn because you can just hold down right click while running like I feel most people do anyways when playing with M&K
That’s more of a KBM issue bc KBM has less movement control than controller. Controller doesn’t have that flaw, you just slightly tilt the stick and you walk.
I did make the change to legacy, but I changed the Strafe to Q and E, because I really prefer that. I had to change A and D to Camera turn to make Legacy work for me. But I mostly prefer it now because my camera doesn't snap back to behind me when I use abilities now. Which was actually getting me killed in P10S XD
Another tip for Shukuchi is to have it drop on target. So if lets say you have an out then in attack going off you can just hit the target macro for Shukuchi and poof to be right under the target boss or another player that may be in a safe spot.
Bro im also like a mouse clicker I sometimes move by holding down LMB+RMB and I always unselected my target I did not know about the clicking field option thats gonna improve my life so much holyyyy
Just started, yesterday, I’m a long time WoW player I’m used to holding RMB down most of the time so the standard movement doesn’t seem too bad, Maybe ill find out more later on
So, I've been playing for years and hadn't actually given legacy much of a shot due to a simple misunderstanding. You see, when slide casting to the side if you turn too far as you do you can cancel your cast. given that interaction I'd always assumed turning backwards, as legacy would have you do when moving backwards, would naturally do the same. So imagine my surprise when I actually tried legacy and discovered that you can turn fully away from the enemy and not cancel your cast! Legacy really just lets you move quicker with less restriction! Well, don't I just feel stupid xD
Standard is better in venue's and when RP'ing, as it makes it a lot easier to turn and face other characters. I switch between the two all the time. Legacy for doing content, Standard for when going to venues.
Great video as a refresher for old players, or new players who are just joining. Thanks a bunch Azurite!^^ Legacy movement has been here since the beginning of the game. They added "standard" because that's the tank-control players are used to from world of warcraft, and some other mmorpgs. A lot of players nowadays are just used to tank-controlling their character with the mouse. So it's to make the game more accessible to all players. Legacy is the movement style from final fantasy 11. Hence the name, Legacy. If FF14 didn't have Legacy, they'd lose a lot of FF11 players, which they really hoped would convert to FF14 and leave FF11 (this didn't work, we're still thriving in FF11 haha). FF11 doesn't have visible telegraphs. You have to memorize all the enemy Aoe/cone attacks, and you have to move away, or be able to turn away on a dime. Takes less than a second, and the in-game cursor is horrid for movement. FF11 was originally meant for console/controller (we almost got ff11 on the wii???), and the cursor in 11 is sort of.... useless. The game is fully playable with only keyboard, or with controller. Both movement styles are great, depending on what you're used to. I have a WoW buddy who uses mouse to turn quickly, using standard. Me, I dodge stuff using legacy as I come from FF11. ^^ We are both happy players who enjoy the game. Anyway, it's all a matter of taste and muscle memory. Neither style is wrong. FF14 is the love-child of WoW and FF11. Let's co-exist for the sake of our child.
Prefer standard cause I have an MMO mouse... and I'm turning with the mouse and strafing with the keyboard like just about every FPS I've played over the years. Backpedling isn't an issue because I'm just strafing backwards, and you get used to it over time. You're inability to adapt doesn't make standard bad, just means you're lazy =P
I also think turning off the error messages will help for us button mashers who mash the next button for our actions to buffer them so that they go off as soon as the GCD finishes. Because we gotta remember our ABC's ALWAYS BE CASTING!!!
Since I keybind all of my skills to 1-9 with Shift and Alt on my mouse, I just use Mouse Buttons 1 and 2 to move. Hold both and the mouse turns into a joystick.
I use standart controls for several reasons. 1: 20+ years of playing games with the setup and most other games using it. And retraining my muscle memory for just on game is just too much. 2: I find legacy controlls disorientating, at least with mouse and keyboard. 3: I value movement and camera being independent from each other higher then faster backwards movement
If you have the button-change option on, instead of an empty spot you could put something else there. As someone who palyed everquest 2, where it has WAY TOO MANY BUTTONS for no good reason, I cannot fathom why anyone would want MORE buttons on their bar, less is honest-to-god bliss, less clutter and mess.
The auto target according to priority, would this work if your isn't facing an enemy, or if the enemy isn't even in your camera pov? An instance I'm thinking of is in ex1 when the boss summons the 3 towers that need to be killed. Once, all 3 towers are dead, will it auto target the boss when I click a gcd even if my camera isn't on the boss? Because that shit is annoying as hell, and I always lose a gcd there.
You don't need to change your keybinds to strafe with A and D, just hold down the right mouse button. I'm completely baffled by how many people don't seem to know this. You rarely want to strafe without camera adjustment, why aren't you already holding it down? Do people really run around with their camera just in a static position all the time or something?
What is truly baffling are try-hards like you who say they are "completely baffled" by others not knowing random things about the games controls, which aren't even explained in-game all the well. Do you really run around all day with your inflated ego in a static position all the time or something?
I like being behind my character when moving so I prefer Standard settings. Legacy makes me lose track of where I am. And yes that means I manually turn around them move if I need to move behind me.
you can turn with your mouse at will. it was like this in wow too, and that's why it's a setting, and that's how you effectively use standard. yes, you unbind turn. why would you ever need turn keys when you CAN TURN AT WILL?????
Keyboard turning is a derogatory phrase for a reason since ages ago. I don't have anything against people using legacy mode but the arguments for why it's better were pretty weak here.
How? Just move your camera like I don't understand the coping regarding legacy vs standard mode lol, it's the exact same if you have A and D bound to strafe. Legacy mode is all the same but you can run backwards. The only advantage standard mode has is doing emotes while turning your character
@@Zephhi moving the camera doesn't effect your movement direction on standard, they're completely seperate - if I'm running towards North East and I turn the camera to face South west, I keep running towards NE I don't think one is really any better than the other, they both have advantages and disadvantages (assuming you bind A/D to strafe and use the mouse to turn on standard)
I prefer standard as i change direction of running with the mouse as you can snap into any direction instantly. Dont like classic , feels odd to me . Tab targeting in this game is rubbish, much prefer how it works in wow . /petsize all small .......... you are my god ! Camera thing is useful for me as lalafel cannot look up !

I quit because the game looked very bad and the story was super boring (I reached almost the end of shadowbringers MSQ after going through the stormblood slop).
Thank you so much again. I really needed this video. Your genius is a god-send.
Standard user here, you're not a bad player. I'm just so used to the WoW movements that I can basically play Standard controls as if they're legacy.
This was fantastic. Thank you!
Thanks for this video. Almost all of these tips were immediately helpful!!!
Omg I didn't know you could link glamours like that! Thank you!
i started out as Standard but changed when i attempted my PotD runs. took sone getting used to but its vastly superior
Awesome! I just started PVPing, and this info will be a major help!
You can strafe in 'Standard' without changing 'A' and 'D' and still freeing up 'Q' and 'E' by just holding down Right Mouse.
Thank you for this video, Very good setup, Showing the effect Before/Without and After/With. Looking forward to a with Controller on PC.
You're not doing anything wrong, these settings are all to tailor everything to your own style, but I find it amusing that we prefer almost entirely the totally opposite settings for so many things. XD
Then there is me too lazy to change the settings and then when i finally get around to changing it i forget.
@@NeocrimsonX that or for some odd reason you've become somewhat accustomed to the settimgs and it feels different after changing them.
😂
Ps. This was me, confusing for awhile.
@@Glacier_Noir yeah.
I don't like legacy camera
@@NeocrimsonXtrust me, change them. QoL and personal preference changes to your settings is night and day different.
LoL i was just planning to update my settings, thanks for this update. I am excited to play again. I'm playing on the Steamdeck.
What an amazing video! Good job thanks for that I appreciate it so much!
Thank you just got back since 2021 and this helped!
Another tip for Shukuchi is to have it drop on target. So if lets say you have an out then in attack going off you can just hit the target macro for Shukuchi and poof to be right under the target boss or another player that may be in a safe spot.
As a MNK main, targeting can somewhat be a nuisance. Thanks for the targeting advice.
Bro im also like a mouse clicker I sometimes move by holding down LMB+RMB and I always unselected my target I did not know about the clicking field option thats gonna improve my life so much holyyyy
very nice video for new players.
Thank you for letting me know about Materia extraction!!!!
I had no idea about that autotarget feature, that's nice for stuff like Bozja so I can actually get stuff done lmao
Standard is better in venue's and when RP'ing, as it makes it a lot easier to turn and face other characters. I switch between the two all the time. Legacy for doing content, Standard for when going to venues.
Great video as a refresher for old players, or new players who are just joining. Thanks a bunch Azurite!^^
Legacy movement has been here since the beginning of the game.
We are both happy players who enjoy the game.
Anyway, it's all a matter of taste and muscle memory. Neither style is wrong.
FF14 is the love-child of WoW and FF11. Let's co-exist for the sake of our child.
Great tips! Thank you.
will you be doing a level 100 of each of the jobs now that dawntrail is officially out?
Yes, just takes me 2 weeks per guide so bare with me 🙏
Very informative! thank you
Do you purely use your skills on the mmo mouse or is it like half keyboard and half mouse? im asking as i see you binds are 1-=
Prefer standard cause I have an MMO mouse... and I'm turning with the mouse and strafing with the keyboard like just about every FPS I've played over the years.
Because we gotta remember our ABC's
ALWAYS
BE
CASTING!!!
Controller window resize is right-stick click (R3 for ps controller), by the way :D
Thank you for this!
what armor pieces are you wearing at the start?
what is that white mage weapon? it’s so pretty!
Outstanding tips, thank you sir
The auto target according to priority, would this work if your isn't facing an enemy, or if the enemy isn't even in your camera pov? An instance I'm thinking of is in ex1 when the boss summons the 3 towers that need to be killed. Once, all 3 towers are dead, will it auto target the boss when I click a gcd even if my camera isn't on the boss? Because that shit is annoying as hell, and I always lose a gcd there.
Thanks for the helpful tips!
I love your hairstyle! What's its name? 🙏
I like being behind my character when moving so I prefer Standard settings. Legacy makes me lose track of where I am. And yes that means I manually turn around them move if I need to move behind me.
for the display achievements nearing completion as login notification....I have it turned off and it still shows up.
I used to pray for times like this (Azu upload)
that WHM glam looks AMAZING!! Tell us your glam secrets :)
I’m dying laughing at the first thing
Rebinding your keys to remove turn and put strafe on a/d is literally day 1 mmo stuff
@@cashnelson2306 I don't even rebind them to strafe I just hold right click
You dead yet?
Sumpfing < Something
you can turn with your mouse at will. it was like this in wow too, and that's why it's a setting, and that's how you effectively use standard. yes, you unbind turn. why would you ever need turn keys when you CAN TURN AT WILL?????
Keyboard turning is a derogatory phrase for a reason since ages ago. I don't have anything against people using legacy mode but the arguments for why it's better were pretty weak here.
Camera control is much better in standard. Running backwards is the only advantage that legacy offers.
Maybe there's a way to macro it? When you unsheathe weapon > legacy mode on
How? Just move your camera like I don't understand the coping regarding legacy vs standard mode lol, it's the exact same if you have A and D bound to strafe. Legacy mode is all the same but you can run backwards. The only advantage standard mode has is doing emotes while turning your character
@@Zephhi moving the camera doesn't effect your movement direction on standard, they're completely seperate - if I'm running towards North East and I turn the camera to face South west, I keep running towards NE
I don't think one is really any better than the other, they both have advantages and disadvantages (assuming you bind A/D to strafe and use the mouse to turn on standard)
Lol what a load of horse shit.
Tab targeting does kinda suck, but since all the hardest content is single target it's not a big deal. Unless you count like UCoB nails on Ifrit
This is game changing.
10:40 I prefer DPS to be white, the red confused me because I would think it’s enemies constantly lol
getting back into this game, thanks for the help!
Just say you don’t like it 😊
