This is easily one of the most graphically violent, depressing, gritty, sci-fi/action OVAs I've ever seen. This anime OVA series loosely reminds me of Akira, except the plot to Akira at least makes SOME sense. Angel Cop, on the other hand, is all over the place. I would also like to add how weird this anime feels when the art style changes in the last two episodes.

But I attribute that to the fact that does have the more hardcore cyberpunk stuff in it. Political intrigue, sleuthing, and dealing with charged situations that could bring an entire country or even worse, a corporation, down on your head. Maybe give it another try when you want a slow, spy/detective story that takes place in the future. Or not lol. A show to watch that's similar to GitS but has fewer philosophical musings that I can recommend would be Psycho Pass. It's a cyberpunk setting that works the detective angle nicely.

Demon Rantz If you're into RPG's, the pen and paper game is a bunch of fun. I'm not too much a fan of the fifth edition, but fourth and third are damn good. Also, digitally, there is Shadowrun: Dragonfall for the P.C. Avoid Shadowrun Returns, it doesn't offer a whole lot. Dragonfall has it's share of flaws, but it's pretty good overall and its good moments are fantastic.
The premise would've been much better if the story were about a literal angel from Heaven whose has a optimistic view of humanity and were sent by God to interact with mortals and begin working as a police officee, which she enjoy helping people and the law. But however, the protagonist find themself struggles with dealing police corruption and brutality, arresting innocent victims, dealing with protests and some people who do police works outside the law, causing the protagonist to question their optimistic viewpoint toward humanity as a whole, although they met some true honest cops who's willingly help protect the innocents from harm.
"You need to have some imagination when you're torturing someone for information!" I never understood the need for all these elaborate tortures. It's the simplest thing, to cause more pain than a man can endure. I can't believe I managed to finish that reference without even cringing...

I believe its Peter Marinker whom upon checking his IMDB yes was Frampt from Dark Souls and Dr. Ichihara from Angel Cop. He was also the voice of Captain Goto in the Manga Patlabor dubs which is where I recognized him from. He's so much better than the guy Bandai got to voice him in their dub.

there's a huge difference between a cop and CSI, but I get what you mean. Cops should be able to do basic fingerprinting in case of contamination between when they get there and when CSI gets there.

Got my dvd copy for 15 bucks awhile back at movie trading company. I heard they are re-releasing it on blu ray and dvd from discotek media in a few weeks.I am really excited to see if its a good transfer or not.
I'm kinda getting the feeling that either you lack the ability to suspend your disbelief or you don't like "old school" anime... But on to part 2 to see how this gets worse...
